Love this cafe. Great atmosphere and surroundings. Come here often for coffee but always disappointed in the quality of food when we do eat here. Such a shame because its such a pleasant place to be. No tuna on the tuna toasties yesterday which for £7 is quite poor. Other than that enjoy going there . Would be 5 stars not 3 if could up their game with quantity of food

We came here for lunch yesterday. The cafe was busy but we were able to get a nice table next to a lovely heater. We chose sandwiches, a wrap, chips and 2 cakes and tea for 2. You go to the counter to place your order and pay and the lovely staff will bring your food to your table. There were a couple of lovely polite young ladies taking and serving the orders. Spot on! Friendly and super efficient. Despite being busy, we were served really quickly. The food was excellent. Tasty, hot and nicely presented. The tea was great. A big pot and a hot water top up and fresh milk. The food was really tasty and generous portions. We got a bit too full though and couldn't manage the cakes so we had these boxed up to take home to enjoy later. We've lived in the area for over 30 years and we've seen this cafe change hands a few times over the years. Not sure who's running it now but just wanted to say thank you for a lovely experience.

Pretty spot for lunch. Extortionate prices for both the size and the quality of the food however. Ordered lasagne and pasta dishes. Both mediocre at best and we had actually wondered whether they were microwave meals. Left feeling hungry still. Might be good for the more mature wealthy customer who might frequent this place more than couples in their 30’s, but we certainly won’t be coming back for food

* To put my review into context the first half is about the Garden Centre as A whole. A few years ago we decided to visit Golden Days Garden Centre because we regularly visit the other main Garden Centres in the Area and fancied a change. On that occasion we weren't impressed with the place, seemed a bit run down. Anyway, a good few years later we were having a meal at a nearby restaurant and had an hour to kill before we met our friends. Were were surprised and impressed by how much nicer the place was! Everywhere I looked I saw things I would actually consider buying as gifts for people, very well thought out. And this good opinion was reinforced when we had a look at the outdoor plant area. I am reasonably knowledgeable about plants and you can always tell when a garden centre is putting in the effort to maintain high standards. THE SECRET GARDEN CAFE. We We're very happy with the service, food, ambience, layout of the place etc, etc, etc. I think because we were impressed by Golden Days Garden Centre in General we were understAndably expecting the cafe to be up to standard too, and it was. Bear in mind that there is a well established and very popular pub/restaurant next door we weren't expecting a 3 course meal or anything. What they did well was nicely presented and good value, it's clearly intended to cater to people visiting to buy plants or gifts, and by not over reaching it is a success. If you want more choice there is as I said a well established restaurant next door and it wouldn't make any sense to try and compete against it. They know their customer and act acordingly. I will certainly be returning and am happy to recommend the secret garden Cafe.

We decided to call in after previously ordering the afternoon tea from The Secret Garden Cafe. So we had an idea of what to expect food wise and were made to feel most welcome during our visit in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our lunch was scrumptious and well presented and we'll definately be returning for seconds! The Garden Centre is well worth a look around anytime with a great array of plants, shrubs and accessories.

We sadly didn’t stay - approached the main counter - there was no queue and two staff serving but we were ignored. My partner had to say hello several times before we were acknowledged, it felt like we were intentionally ignored. Neither of us consume dairy so all we wanted to know was if they had any plant based milks so we could get a coffee, we were told “no” and offered no alternatives. We were made to feel really unwelcome and will not go back despite being very local and frequent visitors to the Garden Centre.

We have been going to this cafe for 2 or 3 years and the food and service has always been good. The fish and chips are especially popular so we always book in advance if we want this as sometimes they can run out. Last week we had the fish and chips and the fish was awful. There were 5 of us and we all felt the same. Dont know if it was a problem with the batter or the fish was undercooked. It was sort of slimy inside. This has really put us off going again but everyone can have a bad day so no doubt we will be back there again at some stage.

Also, the coffee was in a mug ( as it should be) 🙂 the staff were very friendly and helpful. A very pleasant experience ☺

Came here today for lunch after a walk with my mum and aunty. I am used to smaller places not always having a great vegan selection but they always at least have plant-based milk or are happy to make something for you (bear in mind that vegan food is actually easier to make than non-vegan food - just veg/salad will do!!). Nothing on the menu so mum asked when she ordered and they had nothing - not even plant-based milk (a carton of soy/oat milk costs about a pound so this is REALLY poor). What do you do if you have dairy intolerance? Staff weren't helpful or accommodating didn't apologise or say 'we'll make something for you' so I sat there with water until my aunty insisted that we ask them to make something for me. Mum asked for the poached eggs on toast without the eggs and obviously no butter but it was a real struggle. Staff didn't even know what vegan was - Mum had to specifically say 'no eggs' even after she asked for it to be made vegan. If it wasn't 'Eat Our To Help Out' I would have complained about the portions because it was literally a tiny bit of spinach and two small mushrooms on dry toast. In 2020 so many more people are ditching animal products and although I don't expect a full vegan menu I was made to feel very unwelcome and wouldn't visit again.

Some ex colleagues mentioned that they sometimes had lunch here, so I suggested it to a friend as a place to meet. I cannot believe the other rave reviews, were we in the same place? My friend had arrived first. I joined her at a table which was basically in a corridor. A door at the far end led outside, which at times was left open. At least the fresh air counteracted the overwhelming smell of air freshener. The whole place was dingy. There were artificial flowers on the table, daffodils!Daffodils, it’s June. The food was OK. I would describe my sandwich as mean, as opposed to generous. The plates were not cleared very quickly. Apparently the door led to the toilets which were outside and quite a walk away. We will not be meeting there for lunch again.

There was plenty of choice on the menu but because we were eating later we just shared a lovely fresh sandwich and a small portion of chips. We visited the Golden Days garden centre mainly to eat at the Secret Garden cafe with the bonus of being able to look round the garden centre which was beginning to display its Christmas wares. The cafe had a 'specials' board with main meals costing just short of £8. The menu also offered breakfast items, sandwiches & afternoon tea. Food is ordered and paid for at the counter and then it is brought to your table by the staff who are very helpful & polite. There is a good selection of cakes for dessert...it was difficult to decide which to try so we all ordered something different & tried a bit of each! The cafe also has an outside seating area.

We have been here several times and always had lovely meals at a very reasonable price. However, the last time we went I was told they weren't taking any food orders for half an hour because they were so busy. So half an hour wait to order, then another half an hour to prepare, sorry but I think that is too long to wait to receive a lunch order. Never had this anywhere else we've been for food. Go to the centre of Golden Days nursery which is next to The Cheshire Lines public house. Once inside you'll find a medium size cafe with a homely old fashioned feel, personal, polite service and simple honest food served on plastic table cloths. Half the area is a large conservatory that overlooks the garden centre outdoor plants. The lattes are lovely and the cake exceptional (yummy and part eaten in photo). I recently discovered the golden days garden centre despite living in South Manchester for many years. I thought the garden centre was amazing, selling everything I could need for the garden, as well as gifts, and having really knowledgeable staff, so the wonderful cafe was a bonus! It's a cafe served by few staff. I went with friends mid-week for lunch and there was one guy cooking and the other taking the orders and serving the food. Yet despite the cafe being full, we received our food within ten minutes. We didn't the food to arrive so quick, especially as two of us had ordered a cooked breakfast. This cost about £6 each and consisted of a sausage, one slice of buttered toast, fried wedges, fried egg, 2 slices of bacon, a mushroom and some baked beans. Not the cheapest, but nice, and the food was sourced from local retailers - as listed on the blackboard. The cafe also offers hot and cold sandwiches, jacket potatoes and a lovely selection of cakes. The staff who served us was also very friendly and the atmosphere in the cafe was friendly.

Went to the spread eagle end of October for my dads 80th. The service was slow, food service slow, not everyone got their drinks at the same time. Was my first time here after driving from west yorkshire. The food was ok, nothing special at all, expensive for what it was, £15.50 for lasagna and a bit of salad and and bread. The lasagna pasta was a little tough as i would say not cooked or prepped properly. The set of tables they pulled together were all different heights. Main thing is, my parents enjoyed it. Would we go back, no. Far more better places to go.
