The Sandwich & Salad Bar in Powys

We were so excited to find this place on our travels and we really don't know why we were treated so rudely by the young lady with the blonde ponytail. We were respectful and even said what a wonderful shop it was but we can honestly say we have never been treated like that before. She ignored every word we said and seemed to hate serving us, I was half expecting to have my food thrown in my face. I'm sure all the ladies are not like this but we left saying to each other that we would never return.

Think they missed with my coronation chicken sandwich. Most of the sandwich was just lettuce.

Easily the best place for lunch in town. You cannot beat a hot roll from S+S bar! Excellent menu variety and reasonably priced.

Absolutely tasty roast pork and beef wrapped in giant yorkshire pudding, dont think ive ever had better than this one! Will be back for more soon!

Best sandwiches in town! Always offer hot and cold sandwiches, pasta, pastries and other options. The hot sandwiches are usually a meat and gravy, on Fridays they even offer a giant Yorkshire pudding as the bread. Great value for money!

I don't have food from there very often but when I do it is excellent. Good quality, great service and yummy food.

Why do people flock to the chains? They don't support the local economy by ordering their supplies off them even when the area is an agricultural one. The product isn't cooked miles away, frozen and re-heated Places like this are locally owned and supplied and use quality ingredients and, in this case, charge a fair price. Huge Baguettes and hot meat choice where you can get a decent sized dinner inside one and as the Pork is good quality and you get in early enough, you'll have some crackling to go with it. Good service the shop can look busy but it's just small, so perhaps a larger premises would allow sit down with a coffee or tea.

The S&SB catered at an evening event last week that I attended. Not only was the food delicious and very fresh, but the sausage rolls were, honestly, the best I have ever eaten! I'll be in Newtown at the end of October, and will make a point of popping in to buy some for home...

Their cold sandwiches are fantastic, but their cooked sandwiches are second to none! I think the secret to both is that they use fresh bread, that doesn't taste or feel processed. If there was another sandwich bar in town I don't imagine I'd give them my business. Only gave 5 stars because they're never open after work. They close at 3, so I never even got to try them until I finished school permanently. They could so easily compete with the local fast food joints, providing a healthier option too (not that I'd expect them to stay open just as late as them. 6 or 7 pm would suit most, I'm sure). [edit] I made myself hungry thinking about this, but there's nowhere that sells roast meat sandwiches open 😢

I love getting my lunch from the Sandwich and Salad Bar, I am picky when it comes to sandwiches because I don't like mayo. This makes the Sandwich and Salad Bar great because you get to choose what you want in your sandwiches and it is freshly made for you. There is a great choice of fillings and breads, and fillings are always very generous in size. Staff are always very friendly and helpful. Can't recommend them enough!

We went there on our moving in day to get the removals team a sandwich. What a great selection. The guys all loved the choice.

Good hygiene and a decent range of salads to choose from, you get quite a lot for your money. There are meat options as well, and filled rolls available to order. Parking on the road outside, but it can get busy, especially on market day (Tuesday). There is a step up into the shop.

Where to start, this is the best place to hot a sandwich hot or cold, i always have the bacon baguette which is divine. The customer service is 10 /10. Only negative is i wish it was open longer so i can always eat this heavenly food

Good choice of sandwich fillings and the offer of brown/white bread and butter/flora. You get a bespoke sandwich freshly made to order, well wrapped and a good price. Service is good, even when the queue is out of the door. Well worth a visit, and take your purchases to eat in the town park. What's not to like?

This place is the holy grail of eateries!! I go here every week and have been for over four years now. Food is all made fresh everyday, they customise everything in front of you to exactly how you like it. The hygiene and cleanliness of the place is outstanding. You’re absolutely spoilt for choice of things to eat here, from salads, wraps, sandwiches, baguettes, paninis, gluten free options, AMAZING homemade cakes, hot roll of the day- turkey, pork or beef with all the trimmings!!! To jacket potatoe, pasta bake, curry (which is to die for) etc... The staff are extremely quick and efficient and the owners Carol and Trefor are an absolute delight - they have so much fun and banter and genuinely can’t do enough to please their customers!! They also do outside catering from buffets to four course sit down meals and hog roasts which I have attended many of events they have catered and have again been blown away by. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!!! Thank you for making my day Monday to Saturday week in week out!!

Really nice food and always served promptly. I now place a weekly order for my staff, which gets delivered with a smile, daily. I would really recommend the hot beef baguette with Yorkshire pudding and gravy that they do on a Monday and Friday!

the staff are friendly and the food is excellent, all freshly made in front of you. Why not try their hot rolls - roast beef or roast pork or roast lamb in a roll or baguette along with all the trimmings that you would have on a sunday lunch plate.
