Great food (the chips are seriously good). The Red Lion has a pub classics menu and everything we had was excellent. Lovely outside seating atea and we'll definitely be back in the summer!

The food is fantastic. We had a 3 course meal, flavoursome and delicious. The Red Dragon has recently been taken over by Connor Turner and team. It is obvious that the team is talented. Each of our courses was beautifully prepared and assembled. We had soup, chicken liver pate, chickpea curry , Llangynidr chicken and carrot cake with orange sorbet. Price fab. We are over 60, so £20 a head for food. Obviously, we will be eating here again!

I have been coming to this Pub for years as my Mum lived in the village for 25 + years before she died. The new owner has clearly invested in the accomodation and we recently stayed. The rooms were very comfortable, modern and clean. The food and drink as always was excellent. For me though the cherry on the cake is the pub atmosphere, full of lovely local people and very welcoming. This feels like a true local to me and it is over 200 miles away for me! Well done to all involved a true diamond of a pub in the middle of the Brecon Beacons. Highly recommended.

I’m not sure what has changed from previous reviews but our food was very poor and didn’t even look like previous pictures. The steak pie and burger were clearly frozen and even the chips weren’t cooked well. The beer was good and so was the service or I would give it 1 star. Plus they were closed twice for food when they advertised being open. We should have known not to go but trusted the reviews. Go anywhere else.

We booked a table for 10 people for my daughters birthday on the 9th of November. When we arrived the pub was closed due to building works in the bar. You would have thought they could have phoned to let us know and save 10 people travelling 20 miles for nothing.

We went here for dinner on Sunday evening. We'd had a busy day, were both starving and early for our reservation. We were met by incredibly friendly and helpful staff and there was no trouble getting a table straight away. I ordered the ceasar salad and my husband had the Red Lion burger and we had a side of onion rings. All the food was delicious. Proper pub food done well. We stayed for dessert and we were not disappointed. All in all, would definitely visit again. Thank you Red Lion.

The Red Lion has been one of our favourite places to eat over the years. We hadn't been for a while but it is now under new management and last Sunday we booked a table for a family lunch. I have to say, the Sunday roasts were outstanding. There was a choice of pork, chicken supreme or beef as well as a vegetarian wellington. The portions were very substantial and were accompanied by a lovely selection of vegetables. The pub is lively and friendly and the service was excellent. There was also a good choice of desserts, including sticky toffee pudding, a lemon posset and triple chocolate brownie. We will definitely be back soon! Thank you Red Lion!

Popped in for an evening meal as we were staying locally, and what a lovely pub we found. The staff were so friendly, good ale selection and the food was excellent. They have just got a new cheff and they picked a keeper! Recommend the chicken supreme as it was delicious.

If you're on the canal give the Coach and Horses a miss and walk 10 mins up the road to Upper Llanygidr and the Red Lion. Great food, an ever changing selection of real ales, outside tables, a wonderful crew and a playground to keep the kids entertained. Prices are reasonable and a flavoursome menu to choose from. You will not be disappointed 👍😃

My booking of 16 people including 7 of my grand children was a fitting ending to our visit to Abertillery. The food was excellent value for money and served on time as we pre ordered. My ‘Welsh Faggotts’ dish was so tasty. Mike and Anna made us so welcome. Thank you both

Basic pub food with gourmet prices. Had the burger... the only gourmet thing about it was it was served on a brioche bun. The burger felt defrosted in the microwave as it had microwave burn. Chips were nice. The décor felt stuck in a time warp. We went there several years ago, and the décor felt like it was the same. Seat covers, paint on walls.... bar area in general. There's not much else to say. Shame really as they were the closest pub that did food as the next nearest was only doing snacks. Missed opportunity to capitalise.

This pub is fantastic. We visited on holiday, the staff and the locals were absolutely wonderful, so patient and very well mannered, they made us feel so welcome. Lovely to see a local pub thriving as this one is. The food was amazing, all freshly cooked and piping hot, lovely cheesecake. And the Bevan ale was top notch.

The pub has recently been taken over by new owners. We used to go to this pub on a regular basis, but unfortunately, we will be finding a different local pub to go to now. We visited for the first time with the new owners yesterday evening, we will definitely not be returning for the following reasons: - The atmosphere was terrible, alot quieter than what it used to be. It was extremely cold to sit and eat. -The service was awful, we had to go up to the bar whenever we wanted drinks/food. - Some of our food was stone cold, we had to go up to the bar to send it back. The food came back microwaved. -Between the first person having their meal, to the last person having their meal. The first person had already finished their food. -We had to ask 4 times for our side dishes, which went with some of the main meals. -We waited an 1hr 20minutes for our food. (We were only a table of 6) -No one asked if everything was OK or if we wanted any thing else (e.g sauces, steak knife for Gammon..) -The meal prices had gone up by approximately £6 from what it was with the previous owners. Sorry to say, but what was a thriving, excellent local pub has now been completely ruined.

Just 5 minutes off the A40 this is a little gem of a place. Unassuming from the outside but spacious once through the door, with a friendly atmosphere. A lovely home cooked menu and a number of specials, we weren’t short of options. My wife’s light bite sandwich was bigger than my burger (much to me envy) and we both hugely enjoyed our food. Don’t settle for roadside disappointment, instead seek out little places like this.

We live 80 miles away from the Red Lion in Llangynidr, but love going there when we can. Always a warm reception from the staff and locals. A great, down to earth pub, with lovely food, and a good pint. On the doorstep of the beautiful Mon & Brec Canal, and of course the stunning countryside. Went there 5:30 last Wednesday, on a warm, sunny evening. The place was buzzing. Every table was Reserved, apart from one, which we were grateful to get.
