Went this evening, with the family to say I was disappointed, was an understatement. I have to say the food on the carvery was poor. The potato was claggy, the meat was tough, and the vegetables and the roast potatoes were lukewarm. I could not eat the food and left three quarters of a plate, as did my grandson and his friend. The staff are lovely and the manager was very apologetic when I mentioned how Poor the food was. Sadly, this will be my first and last time eating at the Royal George. If anyone wants a good sunday carvery, I would recommend The toby carvery In Chadderton. I hope This review will improve their food and the temperature it's served at.

Invited to meet up with a good friend, my wife and I travelled to this lovely inn. Ok it was the night of the Spain/England game, but a booked table ensured our seat in the main bar. This is my second visit in two weeks for the carvery and if I’m back in the area again, I’d go back. The staff are very friendly and it’s very clean. My only negative is the broccoli is a bit over done for me but I like my veg crunchy. Everything else, especially the meat, is yummy.

We came out for a family dinner and was greeted by the staff who were friendly smiling and happy to help, they seated us in the restaurant which was clean and had lovely décor. We were asked for our drinks order by a gent named Adam and then ordered food. The service was great as it was a large family they read our order back so it was all correct. We all got to the wordsearch on the kids menu with the crayons provided while we waited for food which wasn't very long. Wow what a treat, the sea bass was delicious. fresh and tasty, the wife loved the steak and ale pie as did others. Kids meals are a good size and the kids enjoyed them with clean plates plus free ice-cream that's a win win. We will definitely be returning as we've heared the carvey is a win win too. Great value for money and a nice relaxing evening with the family with no washing up see you again soon

The place has had a refurbishment,,it's absolutely stunning now,The maitre d,took us to our table and a few minutes later we ordered our drinks which came and we ordered our food, only the fish and chips,my partner having the northern upgrade, lol bread and butter and curry sauce, not my cup of tea,but hey ho 40 mins later it came,2 completely different fish one battered so much it covered the plate with 7 chips, the other a third of the size with the chips, both with peas then we waited for someone to pass for our tartare sauce, and northern upgrade,a good 5 mins later,by the time we started to eat,the peas were cold and the skinny fish was cold the curry sauce cold too, when we told the young lady she said she would have a word with the kitchen came back with they were sorry, not happy at all,by now the maitre,d came and ask did we want a fresh meal, but by now was a little annoyed and said we weren't paying, that we would have the bill for the drink, good on the guy he said the drinks were free and once again apologies all round, the kitchen staff need to up there game because the place was stunning,we will call in again sometime soon, because we love the long walk along the canal and a meal at the end of it,MX

Lovely food but the service was shocking. Table booked at 5pm but didn't leave until gone 8pm it took half hour to take our order, long gaps between courses, we could see the food on the pass waiting to come out. 4 tables ordered, ate and left whilst we were waiting. Little or no acknowledgement from staff and manager seemed unable to deal with feedback. Offered 10% discount on the bill which we could have had anyway with our Blue light card!

Booked a Xmas lunch, on arrival advised I couldn’t eat from festive menu as they had not booked me correctly, no apology. Had a very average meal, with very odd hard pieces of dried cinnamon in my apple crumble, apparently it is hard to remove them 😂 Other dessert we ordered had Fruit and Custard missing, honestly it was a shambles. There is much better in local area. The staff are not treated well and the place is kept together by cheap young labour they can pay under minimum wage.

We went for carvery on Mother’s Day. The staff were great. They interacted with the kids and nothing was too much trouble. I asked if the veg had been cooked in butter as my baby has a milk allergy and the chef cooked her some fresh veg. The food was delicious too! Only slight issue was that the sauces were further away from the carvery area. We didn’t see them until the way out.

Just wanted to shout out Dean for his exceptional customer service. Called in for drinks on a typically busy Sunday dinner slot. No intentions of eating, roast in the oven at home. Even though every table was booked for diners, Dean managed to shuffle things around and accommodated 6 adults and 2 dogs just for drinks. The thing is, we get it! For our local pubs to survive, they have to serve food, and a table allocated to none diners is lost profit. We might have left, unbegrudgingly, but Dean made it work. Exactly the service you want from your local boozer. Guess what, we’ll eat next time! Many thanks for looking after us. Btw, didn’t catch any names, but the bar staff are also consistently amazing

Appalling salad. What chef sends that out? What manager allows that to be sent out? Probably ones who think people only eat salads because they don't like food! Or put up with 'boring' because they're on a diet! Neither apply and we won't be going back, after taking a chance in the hope that it would have improved since we last gave up on this place.

One star is excessive, they can’t cope. Made an online booking at least an hour ahead. When we arrived the waitress wasn’t sure that they could do food for us as they had a large table to cook for. After asking for clarification we were told that there would be a 20 minute wait until a food order could be placed so we asked for a coffee while we waited. Another group of about 6 people arrived and were told the same. After waiting for 15 minutes for the coffee we asked again and were told there would be at least an hour’s wait. The manager appeared and gave a very confusing explanation so we left after suggesting that the table booking system should be switched off if they have no capacity. What a waste spending all that money on a refurb. We went to a rival restaurant in Greenfield and had a great meal. The other party that had been at the Royal George arrived at the same restaurant a few minutes later. Between us we must have spent more than £200 which had been destined for the Royal George. I’m afraid this pub has lost our business for good. There are much better managed pub/restaurants in Greenfield.

Food wise, meal was nice, but the roast potatoes had not seen the oven, basically they were boiled potatoes, the veg, inc cauliflower cheese was very firm, not as before. The refurbish seems nice but a little disappointed overall.

We have been here plenty of times in the past and always had lovely experiences. However after booking for a father’s day meal 1 week in advance and possibly having one of the worst meals and experiences, I can honestly say we wouldn’t return back to The Royal George. We had a table booked for 5:30pm, on arrival our table wasn’t ready and was still full of dirty plates and cutlery. We then queued up to pay for a carvery to be told there was no mash - but reassured everything else was there. We queued up for a carvery and could clearly see everything was limited and what was left was what I could only describe as the scraps. The beef was full of fat and not edible. The manager was rude and very unprofessional. It was obvious staff were talking unprofessionally about customers including us. It was overall a bad experience. We left feeling completely and utterly unsatisfied and robbed that we had paid so much money for such bad quality food and poor customer service.

Booked for a carvery well in advance - got shown to our “reserved” table for it to still have left overs on it from the previous guests. The carvery was running out of everything - no mash, scraps left for meat (fattest meat ever), Yorkshire puddings & stuffing was running low and when it came out people had to come back up to the carvery to get it as it wasn’t there for them at first so as soon as it was put out, it was empty again. Felt like I had to save some food for other guests, wasn’t a nice feeling. The customer service was probably the worst I’ve experienced and if I hadn’t already paid for the meal before eating I would have happily left. The manger was completely unprofessional and was unbelievably rude. The whole experience was horrible from stepping foot in the place and this is now a place I definitely wouldn’t return too nor recommend. Sort your customer service skills out if you work with the public.

My husband visited the cafe. He bought a paper from the store and then went to buy a coffee. On asking for the coffee He was told to " order at the machine" after asking how to pay at said machine He was told that "it is card only" . My husband is 79 and doesn't carry a bank card. He then went to the Greggs store below, ordered a coffee (paid cash) then returned to your cafe to read his paper bought in your store. He was then told that he couldn't bring a drink bought elsewhere into the cafe. (The cafe was empty. All he wanted was to have a coffee and read his paper as he waited.) He said he wanted to see a manager and was told that the manager was out. Eventually a young man was sent to diffuse the situation and he agreed that (under the circumstances) my husband could indeed stay to finish the coffee. He would gladly have bought the coffee from Tesco had they accepted cash. Just as this happened two blokes in overalls came in with both food and drink from Greggs and they sat down unchallenged. My husband was a little upset about the incedent when he returned home. I THINK IT IS TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE THAT THERE WAS NO OPTION TO PAY CASH. NOT EVERYONE CARRIES A BANK CARD

Local chippy - food is nice, proper 'chippy chips', friendly staff, decent food, decent pricing. Always on my shortlist when I don't want to make tea
