Thoroughly decent local pub. Bar staff are very friendly. Good beer and small but appealing selection of spirits. Great pub if you like to clap a dug. Alas no longer serving food.

I've been going to the riverside for over 20 years, under a number of different owners and it has always been a cracking wee pub. For now, (January 2023) the staff are friendly and well natured. The clientele seems decent and there is pretty much no bother caused by anyone. The restaurant is closed for the moment, but is a great place to get some food and I've heard it will be open again soon. Definitely recommended if you are in the area, best pub in Newmilns by far.

Dreadful ‼️ What's happened???‼️ We've been before and it's been ok. Went here for lunch today. 1 persons sauce in macaroni had split... inedible ‼️ 2nd persons meat in steak pie hard as rocks, again inedible ‼️ 3rd persons scampi dry. 4th persons fish & chips... (fish nice) Everyone's chips were cold and hard‼️ 1 dessert ...sticky toffy pud was hard in the middle. Again inedible ‼️ 2nd dessert choc fudge cake was fine Coffee tasteless.‼️ Yes we were only charged for 2 meals and one dessert so was grateful for that BUT we went to enjoy a family meal out not to be thoroughly disappointed and not be charged for something that we couldn't eat ‼️ TOTALLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ‼️

Was in today , had the 10oz steak, it was perfection, and the waitress was brilliant . 👏

Considering this place is situated in a small village, with few resources and I’ve lived here for a while, I’m a relative stranger to the Riverside. However, I visited with a couple of friends for a quiet drink the other night and received a lovely warm welcome. It was quiet, but the service was excellent and the jukebox kept the atmosphere pleasant without being too rowdy. I know that depending on the night, you can hear live bands and karaoke. I’m planning on returning based on my experience the other night so I guess thats the highest compliment I can make. So don’t be shy. Go in and say hello.

Really friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices. We hopped in with the family on the way home, the food was simple but amazing.

Would recommend for a meal menu wasn't massive but everyone in our party enjoyed their meal so it seems what is on offer is cooked to a high standard also nice beer garden for those few sunny days a year in Ayrshire

Visited for a family meal, The Jaggy Nettle at the riverside. The place is nice and cosy and had a good feel to it, we pre ordered our meals as advised however had some issues with availability, The waiting staff didn’t check off our order properly and 2 of us went without a starter, That would be the only negative would be the service. The food when it did come I just tucked in as by this point had watch everyone else eat, We had a big table and again with pre orders I would have thought we would of been able to eat at the same time but had a delay as one end of the table was served a good 10 mins before the other. If visiting confirm your orders.

Decor makes me think of New England chique with its muted blue and white shades, comfortable chairs and big fireplace with sailing bits and pieces. The food matches the calm atmosphere. Fresh ingredients lovingly prepared and nicely presented are served up every time. The wines are well look after and served chilled, well the whites are! There is a variety of dishes on offer and it caters for gluten free clients. Definitely worth a visit on any evening.

Recently renovated local pub that offers good value drinks and food.

Had an excellent meal here chef is a friendly excellent cook I recommend you try it as the prices are very good and staff very friendly

I attended the Riverside for the Mother's Day menu. Overall it was pretty good and the set menu had fantastic choices. The Blaggis bon bons were particularly enjoyable. The only issue I had was with the service. My friend sat on a seat which was wet. When we made the waiter aware he advised that the chair had been cleaned shortly before and just stood there as if he had no idea what to do next. We had to ask for something to put on the wet patch. Also, when the waiter returned with out change from the meal he asked if we wanted the change. I found this rude and presumptuous. Lastly, the carpet really needs a good shampoo in the restaurant. I'm sure it was beautiful when first laid but it really needs cleaned or replaced.

I have been here twice since they re-opened, once with my daughter when they had some live bands playing and we ate basic pub grub, and then the second time with a wee group of friends and we loved the home-style cooking that the new owners are offering.

Tried for the first time as I have heard great reviews. Well our first visit was Sunday only thing on was a roast dinner. The dinner took about 40 minutes so the chef gave us free soup to pass the time very nice jesture. I wish we had left after that. The roast dinner arrived on ice cold ❄️ plates and was not surprisingly stone cold. The roast beef was nice but very disappointed with the whole experience I wish I had taken a picture because words wouldn’t do justice. The young lady told us it was a new chef and he hadn’t really started yet well they should have shut the restaurant until he figured out how to turn on the cooker. There is so much more I could write but I would like to hope this was a slight wobble.

Great Fresh food, great prices and fantastic beer garden !👍 Book early tho to avoide disappointment in getting a table as this place gets real busy real fast.
