Stayed overnight as attending a party in kilmarnock the hotel was lovely as were the staff, rooms were clean and beds very comfy. There is also a large beer garden which has a play area for children. We odered dinner which found very disappointing i ordered fish, chips and peas my fish was literally swimming in grease which soaked through to my chips, my partner had steak pie, potatoes and veg the potatoes were very overcooked so we decided not to stay for breakfast.Unfortunately i never had my phone so couldnt add photos

This chorizo and potato soup (see pics) is one of the best soups that I have ever tasted, and I am a soup lover. Perfectly seasoned! The fish and chips, definitely, and especially the ham, mushroom, and blue cheese calzone (see pics) were amazing, too. Simply delicious. Today, I am going to try the 'Create Your Own' homemade pizza. Hats off to head chef, Paulina. If this weren't enough, and in fact what was even more impressive and heartwarming (believe me), is the outstanding hospitality, kindness, and magical cooperation (note: I arrived same-day without notice at a time of an international air show that saw many local hotels fully booked, including this one) demonstrated by the fantastic Portmann Hotel staff who absolutely went out of their way to help me, including but not limited to (I'm sure that I will forget some names here), and in no particular order: Julie (housekeeping; I love her!), Avril (housekeeping), 'Waistcoat' James (pub and hotel), Julz (pub and hotel; awesome friendliness!), Jackie (pub and hotel; thank you, Jackie!), Nicky (pub and hotel; my very delightful first impression of the Portmann), Grace (pub), Naimh (pub), Shannon (pub), manager James (pub), manager Kirsty (hotel, office, and more), Paul (very charming and caring proprietor), Zoe, Andy, and more. It was either the owner, Paul, or staff member, Julz, (I can't recall which of the two) who said that they would have let me sleep on a bench inside of the hotel pub had last-minute cancellations not occurred synchronistically on two or three consecutive nights. The Portmann is officially my home away from home, and I am forever grateful. I am here on this trip for therapeutic and loving reasons, and as a tribute to my beautiful Scottish mother, Moira. Thank you very much to the hotel and staff at the Portmann. * Edit 1: I just came back to this review to add some pics (including one from today) and to say this about the spicy tomato soup: Do not pass go; do not collect $200; go directly to the Portmann and have this soup. Talk about hearty, and about both holy and wholly hitting the spot! Again, perfectly seasoned (not sure why they even brought me the salt) and served at the perfect temperature. * Edit 2: Breakfast of Champions (see pic) 🏆 — thank you, Kallum! 🥇

10 of us went there for my wife's birthday. The staff could not have been any more helpful. The food was served hot and very tasty. The drinks were served within a few minutes of ordering. WE will be going back and would seriously recommend this place for a meal or a group.

First and last time trying this place for food, kids chicken nuggets and chips saturated in oil, so bad you could ring it out on to the plate. Spicy chicken nachos, about 4 little cubes of chicken at most and 90% of the plate was just dry loose crisps. 2 pints of Draft Coke were completely flat. Waited for desserts which didn't arrive, went in and asked bar staff about it, they said they would chase it up, another 30 mins past and we just decided to patch it, parking was due up and we didn't really feel like having to ask again about it. Spent the best part of £40 and paid upfront too, not a great first impression.

We had dinner at The Portmann, the staff were great, especially with my niece she is 5 years old and her little sister 3 months. They made it funny for her. The food was good value for money. Worth the visit.

Wouldn't recommend it. Rowdy bar very off-putting. The noise also kept us awake. Pictures very deceptive as the rooms are very shabby. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in ever! Booked fot 2 weeks thankfully got a refund after 1 night, comfier sleeping on the floor than those beds!

Bedrooms left a lot to be desired. However, the beds were comfy. The shower 🚿 head was broken. You have to walk through the pub to get to the room. The restaurant was actually really good. I'd go back for food. The people were really nice. It did have the faulty towers feel. Wasn't that cheap at £80. With no breakfast.

Absolutely would not stop here again! Stopped in room 7, firstly the window sill is hanging off and a massive iron burn on the carpet. Beds are ridiculous and uncomfortable. Then moving on to the bathroom which they charge £20 to upgrade to was disgusting. Mould all around the shower tray and the shower was not working properly, trickled water and was freezing one min and red hot the next. I booked 4 nights Thursday to Monday. Friday was loud as the bar downstairs was packed, Saturday was horrible, music blaring until 1am and a horrible droning sound all night. It was that bad I had to leave early Sunday and cut my trip short to my disappointment. Definitely would not recommend

This is not an expensive, luxurious hotel. But you know that from the price. The rooms may be a bit tired but everywhere is CLEAN. They have taken pride in making what they have the best it can be. Initially concerned that the rooms are above a busy pub so would be noisy but that was not the case. The food was a huge portion, maybe double the meat that I expected when I had chicken with black pudding.

Rooms aren't good or comfy but I gave them 2 stars because they give us rooms last minute when everyone was fully booked Location is not bad free parking on public road from 5pm to 9am

After stopping in room number 3 last night, I got put in room number 5 today. Room 3 was really nice, room 5 is awful. Work paid the same amount for both nights, but they tried charging me an extra £20 today for the same type of room I had yesterday. But, the food is nice. It’s a shame as they got a good review yesterday.
