The Rickshaw in Maldon

Wow what happen! Don't no if this was a one off because I thought this was the best Chinese in the area, not anymore tho. Covered in grease and over cooked spring rolls dripping in the stuff. Not nice at all. Shame really and I'm not going agian. Not even free prawn crackers!!

By far one of the best Chinese places I've eaten from.

I've eaten from here twice, food portions are not worth the money, I'm a veggie and first occasion they made a big deal of making me vegetarian Singapore noodles. Second time they put prawns in. Rude, mediocre food.

If you can get past the awkward parking and the very bizarre inside you should enjoy your takeaway. The Chinese food was really nice and tasty and the lack of more traditional 'set meals' made us go for different items, all of which were great. It would be good if they published a menu, even if it is on FB, the current poor photos of menus are hard to read and navigate and are also very old. We will certainly order again. Great food!

Nice takeaway shame its not a restaurant anymore

Great Take away only thing missing is Singapore chow mein (rice noodles are just small in comparison). Lovely food

prawn balls overcooked to dark brown not golden, duck dry like it had been reheated. This was classed in the top 10 Chinese in my area sad to say I will not use again. items looked like they had been left over and reheated, sadly our dinner ended up in the bin.

It's a bit oily and didn't have much flavour satay sauce was tasteless and very watered down plus sweet and sour sauce with the chicken was very watered down

Great food, well worth driving for, best in the area.

Better than your average Chinese takeaway and very much exceeded our expectations. Our highlights were the pancake roll, Singapore noodles and Kung po chicken. The sauce on the Kung po was properly sweet and sour, not bright orange! We are on holiday and wish our local Chinese at home was as good as this.

Good quality food here but always seems to taste better eating in than as a takeaway, maybe it looses flavour on the journey home or maybe it's the beer they serve!

Lovely restaurant. Great food and very friendly service. A wide menu choice catering for all tastes and a good selection of drinks.

The food was acceptable; no better than the average Chinese in any town. The portions were large bu=t the meal was less than enjoyable. Staff were some of the most miserable and sullen waiting staff ever encountered. That combined with the ever question of "anymore drinks" drove us mad and prompted us to offer a warning. If you go here then wear headphone so you don't have to engage with the miseries!

Behind petrol station but don't be put off

I been on many occasions with my partner and taken family and the food and service has always been amazing for us. Tucked next to a petrol station you wouldn't never expect it to look as lovely as it does inside. Definitely worth a visit

Good food, collection was ready in quick time and the menu was competitively priced. A good range of food available. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

Visited this place for a take away nearly £19 for three medium size dishes and a sauce. They managed to get one noodle order wrong. The food was mediocre but edible, had better meals for less money. However it's the only one in the immediate area so a captive audience. I would recommend you drive a few miles to another one.

Although a strange location (next to petrol station) dont be put off as once inside its totally different. Prompt service and attentive staff. We had a few different dishes all were tasty Good wine selection. Will be back.

Very disappointed with our meal we chose the Emporer set menu starter was over cooked, bland and didn’t particularly taste of anything identifiable, the aromatic duck was dry and tasteless, then the 3 dish selection that followed all looked and tasted the same! Except for the schezuan prawns for obvious reasons! We could have complained but my husband does not like confrontation, he just will refuse to go there ever again!!!

I often come here for a lovely meal. The staff are all so friendly. The food is delicious ways. The new years have been fantastic fun too but you will have to book in advance as very popular. Highly recommend a visit here 😃

This is a nice restaurant to go to. The setting could be better with a petrol station out front but once in the exterior is forgotten. The restaurant is fairly large so plenty of space. The food is good. I enjoy visits to this restaurant.

Food is as you would expect in a Chinese Restaurant, good food not exceptional, however, being attached to the petro garage does detract from the experience.

I agree with another reviewer that said it was in a strange location. Had we not been with local family, we would not have known it was behind the blue gas station!

I was recommended to come here for a meal. We cam for lunch and chose the set menu. It was an ok meal, nothing really to rave about, was fresh tasty and reasonably priced. But prob would not make a big jump to come back

Friendly staff and delicious food. A simple review, but the core parts of a restaurant - clean, friendly and the obvious desire to go back again for the food. Food was prepared quickly and was piping hot. The waiting area was clean and spacious, although I presume it can get 'friendly' in busier times.

We went for a meal, quite early in the evening and there were only two other tables occupied. I had not even got my coat off and they were asking what drink I wanted. When we had our main meal (do not order the lamb it is really tough), two of us were still eating and waiter came over and started to clear the table. When all plates had gone, we were talking and still drinking, and the waitress came over with a wet cloth, and started to clean the table. So Rude, just felt so rushed and they were not even busy. NOT AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. Food, average, but Lamb was awful, really tough. Would NOT recommend, or go again,

The food was really good, bit pricey! Would definitely benefit from a delivery service. Three people standing over us (it wasn't busy) one of them could be doing deliveries....

Ni siquiera llegamos a probar la comida ya que reservé una mesa y intentó entrar, pero se negaron porque tengo un perro (totalmente formado pareja)! caninos Hemos estado en restaurantes en Southend, Chelmsford, Benfleet, Rayleigh, Lincoln, Blackpool, etc. sin ningún problema y ha complementado en su comportamiento. Buena comida, decepción por el peor servicio que he visto en un restaurante. No estoy seguro de si eran cortos de personal (Tenía nos dijeron que nos pueden haber sido un poco comprensivo) En el momento de la llegada, el chico que parecía el gerente, parecía más interesado en tomar llamadas de pedidos de comida para llevar que saludo. Nos dejó esperando mientras que él tomó 2 pedidos antes de mostrarnos a la mesa, donde él lo tiraban los menús sobre la mesa y entramos. Luego tomó 15 minutos antes de una señora vino a nuestra mesa para ofrecer cualquier tipo de bebidas. Durante este tiempo me di cuenta de los comensales, en las pocas mesas que estaban ocupadas, comíamos complementarios eran pan de gambas sin embargo ninguno fue comprado a nuestra mesa. Nuestra orden fue tomada y la comida trajo en tiempo razonablemente rápido y estaba delicioso, pero en ningún momento que el hombre o la hora de volver con nosotros a señora de ver si todo estaba bien. Un poco después de que habíamos terminado, la mesa fue aclarado y el hombre volvió con la obligatoria galletas fortuna y toallas calientes, pero incluso estos eran simplemente empuje en nuestras caras. No ofrecen de postre o café. En este punto nos levantamos a pagar y salir, ya que parecía que no íbamos a ser ofrecidos. Luego tuvimos que esperar para que el "dueño" de terminar sirviendo para llevar su cliente antes de atender a efectuar fuera de ley, que no fue pormenorizada, sólo una cantidad para la comida más la cantidad de bebidas. Por suerte yo sabía aproximadamente lo que debe venir, así que pagamos y nos fuimos. Lo que debería haber sido un regalo de cumpleaños para mí convertido en poco más que comer comida para llevar en una casa de extraños. ¿Usaría el triciclo de nuevo? Como un restaurante, nunca. Como comida para llevar, quizás, porque no tenemos muchas opciones de esta manera y la comida era muy buena. Ah, y el comer en menú es 50% más caro que el llevar uno!

Agradable, una vez dentro te olvidas de que estás en una carretera principal junto a una gasolinera. Comida deliciosa, buena comida china super. Gran servicio, cantidad perfecta de atención. Volveremos

Nuestra primera visita la semana pasada y nos quedamos muy contentos con todo, desde el personal acogedor y amable a la comida buenísima. Realmente recomiendo este lugar aunque está fuera del camino detrás de un garaje. . . Y vale la pena.

We often have takeaways from the Rickshaw and the food is always good. We have only eaten in once and again the food was good but the waiter sat us on a table next to another couple even though there was plenty of tables spare. Once the couple next to us had finished and left they sat another customer right next to us when again there were plenty of tables. I must admit this did spoil the experience as we did want to have a good chat but felt as if we couldn't really talk as the table next to us was so close. Due to this I don't believe we will ever eat in again but will continue to use for our takeaways. May be the owner will read this and take note.

I have had the pleasure last Saturday you be taken to this lovely Restaurant, we went without a booking, and the staff there managed to sort out a table a short notice, the restaurant id so tucked away off the road you would simply miss it if you did not know it was there. Th staff were so helpful, friendly and genuinely interested, and what was better the food was brilliant, hot, full of flavor, certain a place to go when next in the area....but perhaps book next time.....

We have eaten here several times as a large group. Food is outstanding and the staff and service is second to none. If you get the chance do try this unassuming little gem behind a garage!

We were recommended to this restaurant by neighbours. An unusual place being situated behind a petrol station, but that's Mayland for you! We felt that the food that we were served was authentic and it was certainly very tasty. I'm not really one for Chinese food but even I would go back to the Rickshaw. The service was excellent.

Happy to report that the Rickshaw maintains the high standards of service, food and atmosphere that makes us travel some considerable distance for our visits there. We chose from the Set Meal menus, all of the dishes were generously proportioned and delicious. Cannot fault the Rickshaw in any way, It will always be our choice for a good Chinese meal.

This restaurant is my local. We visit or grab a takeaway at least once a month. The food is always good and plentiful. Can't speak highly enough.

Lovely staff and food that is generally consistently good. One time in ten a wrong dish is sent but this may be poor front of house. But one of the best in Essex without a doubt.

The food here is consistently good quality and take away is always fast (10 minutes). The restaurant is nice and has a lovely atmosphere.

Ordered a takeaway and not disappointed. The food was hot, fresh and what I would class as a more authentic Chinese food when compared to most restaurants. Definitely use again.

We regularly get takeaway from "The Rickshaw" as we only live around the corner but vary rarely eat in ..... But we did a couple of weeks ago for a family birthday. It was tremendous a real treat! They even satisfied the fussiest eaters among us .We will definitely do it again soon the scollops and rice noodles are a must!!!

We are regulars to the rickshaw and have always thought it was superb but this visit we found the prices had rocketed to what I would call an exeptional China town restaurant price which at first though suprised didn't worry about it.only when the food come up were we disappointed it was not of the quality we were used to chicken thighs being used instead of breast and certainly not to the standard we have had there before. The restaurant wasn't that busy either 4 other tables only on a Friday night it used to be very busy.perhaps this us a sign of the times with the rickshaw.over inflated prices poor quality. There are other chinese restaurants in the area which now seem to have overtaken them in the dining experience

We had a family get together at the rickshaw the staff are very accommodating and the food is amazing! The restaurant Maybe nxt door to a garage but do not let this put you off! Would highly recommend this restaurant to either eat in of get a take away! Super fast and friendly service

Went to the rickshaw last night the staff are fantastic very friendly nothing to much trouble and as for the food well what can I say it's out of this world, everything from duck starter to ice cream dessert magnificent we will be going back soon
