Ocean in Maldon

Ordered from this for takeaway on several occasions and never had a bad meal. Hands down by far the best Chinese takeaway we’ve ever had and that’s with no exaggeration. The service and delivery is always top class and we won’t consider ordering from any other Chinese for as long as this continues. Cannot wait to dine-in after Covid restrictions are lifted!

What a great place to eat (when we’re not in lockdown) but the takeaway is just as good. Food is delicious, tasty and hot! If you’re Maldon way give it a try, soooo worth it!

Ordered a takeaway and was quoted an hour food arrived after 40 minutes all tasted fresh and hot. Nothing not to like as order well packed with no issues.

Always wait a while for a delivery, i appreciate its new years eve but we have waited over 4 hours for a delivery. We initially ordered at 1715, received a call back saying it would be delivered at 730-745 which was fine considering it is new years eve, but its now 2120 and can't get an answer on the phone as to when our delivery will arrive. Disappointing as we order from you regularly

As always fresh hot tasty food. Not really much to say, as always food was to a good standard with no mistakes all tasted great and looked appealing.

Once again ordered a takeaway due to lock down. Takes a bit to get though as lines are very busy but worth the wait (10 minutes).They seem to have a lot more delivery drivers than normal however this has not effected the freshness or how hot your food is upon arrival.I must say the chicken balls this time were the best I’ve ever tasted fresh, hot and perfectly cooked.

Can you please stop your delivery drivers speeding on Edward bright close they are going to kill someone, it’s a white Land Rover I think

Order a take away last night due to Coronavirus, they had everything on the menu as normal. Food was nicely cooked and tasted good. Nothing not to like was delivered in just over 30 minutes after placing order and was piping hot.

Amazing food, we have been using the ocean for about a year now and can’t fault it. The quality of food and flavour is the best Chinese we have used. The staff are so friendly and helpful. 5 stars would never go anywhere else.

Disappointing visit , re heated greasy food . Came here last year , since then there has been a change of ownership . Price has gone up and food quality is terrible .

The food at the Ocean Chinese is plentiful for the set menu approach. However, on all occasions we have been there, the food is not particularly hot especially the rice dishes. Additional dishes come out in dribs and drabsI think they need to wait until all dishes are ready and especially hot prior to serving.

We visited this restaurant with friends after a recommendation however what a let down, apparently the restaurant has now changed hands and has new owners. The food has no taste, the food is not now freshly cooked but pre cooked and re heated, the mixed starters were bland soggy and only just warm, whilst the chicken satay had just been cooked it just tasted of the oil it had been fried in and the peanut sauce was thin,runny and without taste, the rice and noodles were greasy and just warm and the other dishes had formed a skin over them where they had been cooked earlier and left to stand, we ordered wine, soft drinks and beer with our meal, whilst the beer was ok as it was bottled the soft drinks were flat and the wine was certainly not what was advertised, they are clearly serving a cheap alternative when you order wine by the glass, all in all a disappointing experience,since the new owners have taken over and the prices have also risen. We thought it a bit odd that when we arrived the restaurant was almost empty despite it being only 3 days before Christmas, now we know why.

Having used this restaurant for years and always received great food that was always freashly cooked however we we were shocked at our recent visit to find out that ownership of this restaurant has recently changed, the food was terrible, re heated, greasy, and without flavour, our chicken curry had formed a thick skin on it where it had obviously been standing for ages before being served, the rice and noodles had obviously been re heated, the duck was hard and over cooked, the fries were re heated,just a terrible meal. My wife ordered a glass of Mateus Rose and received a glass of bitter cheap wine that they insisted was Mateus Rose, my Diet Coke was flat and poured from a large plastic bottle. The ice cream was rock hard and full of ice crystals and had no flavour at all, Terrible food and on top of that they had the cheek to add £11 service charge to our bill. We regretted our visit and we will not be returning again.

Enjoyed an excellent buffet meal with family. The food was very tasty. Cooked well, hot and fresh every time. The surroundings could be upgraded to a certain extent if all be told, but the friendly staff and excellent food more than make up for the minor criticism. If I'm in Essex again I would definitely be returning. It's a pity that Worcester doesn't have a Chinese restaurant as good at this. Overjoyed to see old fashioned, restaurant made crispy spring rolls - I though the days of proper ones was over. Got and sour soup a delight.

Had food from here tonight all tasted very good and fresh. Well worth the money. The beef chow mein was exceptional and cooked perfectly.

Service slow and sarcastic. Made to feel bad even though it was an ear as much as you like offer . Not particularly friendly and to make matters worse over charged

My family and I went here on a Saturday evening for a meal that was pre book at least three weeks in advance. Granted there was 22 of us spread across two tables and the restaurant was full, but this does not account for the slap-dash service we received. The organisation between the staff was chaotic at best with no communication between them. It took at least 15 minutes for the drinks order to be taken then another 15 minutes after that for our starters order to be taken. Not one of our orders (drinks or food) was completed fully often leaving people dry or hungry. Due to the lack of staff trying to get hold of a waiter to order a drink or more food was very difficult. The menu has also been drastically cut down offering a relatively limited menu choice. Food was hot on arrival but bland in taste. Very disappointing.

As always food was to a good standard, we have been having food from here for the last 11 years and have never had a problem. Nice potion size tasty food value for money.

What a gem! Wide selection of well cooked nicely presented food.Staff were busy but we were served quickly.Good vegetarian choice and suitable for families as well as couples.Price include dessert.Certainly will visit again

We got there at 7pm and the restaurant was relatively empty, we where sat in the corner next to the toilets so had people walking past constantly.

Family birthday on a Fri night and all you can eat cooked fresh food. vast menu all avail and realy tasty, good value but as usuall drinks expensive. Well worth a visit and better than ready cooked buffets

We live in Maldon and I must admit that, although we have never sat at the restaurant and ate there, we order a take away from Ocean once a week and it always has been consistently good!We will one day go and book a table and actually eat at the restaurant instead of having their food delivered but we have always found the staff to be very polite and kind over the phone and on the few occasions we went in to pick our food up.When we have gone in for our take away ,the restaurant has always been very busy so that's a good sign too!keep on the good work Ocean and well deserved certificate of excellence!

We come here so many times as the food is amazing it’s a buffet but the food is cooked to order , nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff they always remember who you are.the best Chinese I’ve ever had!! 😃

Really good eat as much as you like for £20 per head.

A really enjoyable meal at this all you can eat experience. All food freshly prepared and brought to the table.

Had a really lovely meal here for my dads Birthday. There were 11 of us so we did book and when we arrived had a lovely big round table for us which was perfect. It was a Christmas all you can eat buffet which is a tiny bit more expensive due to it being Christmas I guess. The buffet cost about 19 pounds per person and then drinks are an extra add on. We have been to this Chinese many of times.

Popped in here on a Friday evening with no booking. The staff were lovely and seated us straight away. They helpful, as we didn’t want to eat from the buffet menu and provided us with a full menu offering. The food was lovely, and we were not rushed. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Maldonado. Not sure I will have spelled the name correctly, but a lady called Yen, was especially wonderful. Thank you

Ordered a takeaway from here last week, the food arrived promptly, piping hot and exactly what was ordered plus a free bag of prawn crackers. Quality of the food was excellent and generous portions, would definitely recommend

Took my son to Ocean. Phoned and book as it was his birthday they decorated the table put up balloons and then bought out ice cream with a candle singing happy birthday.

From the start of our visit we were welcomed into the establishment by the friendly staff and shown to one of the restaurant's large tables. The food was excellent and the menu has lots of choice - much more than you'd get at a conventional buffet.

Out with friends and the restaurant didn't fail again. Been with small and large groups, and with friends and family. The buffet is excellent, all selected from the menu and hot, fresh and delicious. The mussels in black bean sauce and fantastic and highly recommended

We went on Mothers day and the food is fresh and a good service and i must say the food is fresh . Went for the buffet is the Best.Nothing is to much for them good indeed, I would recommand people to visit this place they cook what you want what is on the buffet menu for that and they bring it out Not standing under the Light . xxxx

Ordered a meal via the phone, it doesn’t say on the menu that you can pay by card but you can.

Visited with my family as a treat before going on to Maldon Fireworks display. It was quiet when we arrived at 5.30 but soon filled up. Ocean is a "pay fixed price for all you can eat" place. Not a buffet, but you can order as much as you want from the menu. Dishes are small, but you share food and take a small amount of everything so you do get plenty to eat.! We had a good evening but found that the service was a bit sporadic at times, hence the 4 stars. That said the food was very good and we all enjoyed the time we spent there. They were very good with my 1 year old grandson who has a habit of tasting everything and then decorating the floor with it!!! The fixed price is higher on Friday and the weekend, but it is still very good value for money if you like to try lots of dishes!

Out with friends on a Friday night, hadn't booked but fortunately we got the just-vacated table in the busy restaurant. Ordering was easy as everything is inclusive in the one-price menu. The service was prompt and friendly, we didn't have to wait too long for the food, which was excellent. Every dish was well cooked, presented and tasty and I believe their takeaways are great value also. Very happy on my first visit which means I will certainly be back, unless I order a takeaway first !

Reservamos una mesa para 15 para un cumpleaños cuando llegamos pusieron estandartes de cumpleaños y en las mesas así que estaba encantado con eso. El servicio y la comida no se podía quejar de todos pipping caliente y recién hecho. El servicio era perfecto que donde hay tan pronto como necesaria pero también te dejan en paz para disfrutar de su comida. Selección de la comida era fantástica tanto para elegir y un precio fijo. 16 de restaurante nos visite océano en Maldon, y decidimos venir aquí por el todo lo que pueda comer de menú. Todos son realmente disfrutamos de los alimentos y servicios son excelentes, Alex, el camarero fue muy amable nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos. Recomiendo este restaurante a todos los pueblos vive en Maldon bajo nueva dirección.

Desde el punto en que entramos en el restaurante, el camarero Alex nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos como si fuéramos asiduos! Su conversación alegres nos hizo sentir como en casa, nos llevaron a nuestra mesa rápidamente y toda la comida estaba caliente y fresco sin duda. Las raciones eran de tamaño perfecto y más importante trajo en forma oportuna, el precio es razonable en menos de £20 por persona en un domingo! En conjunto, este es un lugar para comer y no te decepcionará, sin duda volveremos pronto! !

First time here, was very good food for a low price, service was great, waiter was very friendly and helpful, would definitely come back again.

I came to this restaurant a while ago for my birthday where we had the lunchtime buffet. We found that it was brilliant value for money and the service was very good. We have since returned multiple times and brought different friends with us who have all thought the same. We would definitely recommend to others

Saturday night & you'd expect staff to be at full capacity. Restaurant was only half full with 2 staff working, one a young starter lad. Offered a drink as soon as we got to the table then nothing for nearon half an hour. Took starter order then nothing for another 20mins. Totally forgotten, so just told them we're leaving & she just apologised and offered us the drink on the house. Never going there again, shocking service!

To prevent wastage some of the portion sizes are not too large but this enables you to try more dishes, as there's no additional costIt is well presented and very tasty ( im very partial to chinese food)The decor is not elaborate merely adequateIt was a lovely meal - and the fact that we are looking to return, is my recommendation

The furniture and decor may be dated, but at least the restaurant was clean. The waitresses were very polite and friendly, however the waiter was not. On my first visit I thought he must be having a 'bad day', but after revisiting the restaurant twice now, i realise this is "normal behaviour". It always seems as though it is an inconvenience to him that we chose to have a meal in his restaurant. I think he must have 'bunked off' of charm school!This is a Chinese buffet where you can eat as much as you like, however the difference to other buffet restaurants is that you order the dishes you want from the menu for a fixed price. The only stipulation is if you don't eat the dish that is served to you, you will be charged the al a cart menu price for it. I think this is to stop people going crazy when ordering, and wasting food which is fair enough, although I am not sure if / how the owners of the restaurant enforce this in practice. The meal on the whole was ok, pretty much standard fare for a Chinese, however some dishes were far too salty. The drinks were quite expensive too. Coincidence?

Have been to the Ocean Chinese Buffet on several occasions as a couple & with family & friends. This particular buffet works on the principle of order as many small dishes as you like, finish it and just order more and hopefully there no, or very little waste (you could be charged for food you dont eat). The food is always lovely albeit the service can be a little slow. My only grip is, if you want prawn dishes you have to pay extra for these, As this is an all inclusive buffett I dont understand why this is. Its not a cheap buffet and paying extra for prawn dishes would certainly put the bill up quite substantially especially if you are a pescatarian. Mussels are included in the buffet price though. I find paying extra for prawn dishes a bit of a rip off and that alone does stop me going more regularly.

We eat here regularly and I have to say this is one of the best Chinese restaurants that I've been too. The food is always fresh and delicious, you can eat what you want and they bring it to the table. They can't do enough to Accommodate you and are always pleasant. I ordered a takeaway from here the other night and although we didn't order that much I would say there was enough for two meals!! Fantastic value for money... excellent

I always enjoy the food at ocean weather it be a takeaway or eating in my only complaint would be that it's very difficult to get through to them to actually order a takeaway I was actually left on hold so long they never picked my call back up!

For our own little Chinese New Year celebration we ordered a delivery from the Ocean. Every dish was excellent in quality and quantity, freshly cooked with appropriate chilli and vegetables. It also arrived about 15 minutes earlier than expected, which was a bonus! Portion sizes are big so you really don't need to spend much to have a lovely meal.

Delicious, fresh and plentiful. Staff are very friendly, food is wonderful and as much as you want for a one off price. We can't fault it. We prefer eating in but the takeaway is still fantastic. It's always a wonder to us that's it's never packed out but that often works to our advantage if we want a able last minute!

Highly recommend! Buffet in the restaurant. And do the Take Away as well. The NEW smoked chicken Peking style in the take away is very Nice!!!

This is a all you can eat from the menu resturant with a varied selection available. Startersthe satay chicken had to be returned as it was very salty. No replacement avialable.remaining starters were tasty.DuckDuck with pancakes very good.Main CourseMain courses was also very good .Service.A liitle slow with rice arriving about 5 minutes after the main dishes. the resturant was not busy and this needs to be addressed.Staff very pleasant and helpful.s

Three generations went for a meal on a Sunday lunch and we were the only ones in there! We enjoyed a large variety of dishes, which were tasty and served in just the right quantities.

Oceans is a great place good food etc. generally great. The waiter we had was just so rude and abrupt he is starting to put us off going there.The others are lovely just there is one that's proper mean haha so if you go to oceans prepare to have a rude time depending on who you get! Foods good though.

Go in here A LOT! Generally good food with satisfactory service (even the male server who can be a bit short). We take people in all the time. SOOOO much better that other all you can eats around!

Visited for the third time is as many months and once again the only gripe I had was with the surly male waiter. We were lucky enough not to have him on our second visit and the evening was so much better for it. He verges on the side of being rude and makes you feel that you are being a complete inconvenience to him. This is a shame because I will think seriously before going back here for another meal. Our bills are normally well over £100 so would expect a little more courtesy.

We went with two children, the restaurant was nearly empty yet the service was incredibly slow. They made no effort to recommend anything or fast track anything for the kids. Instead of taking the whole order in one go they took it in between courses which took forever, by the time the mains had come we weren't that hungry and the kids were bouncing off the walls and just wanted a dessert. I cant help thinking that was intentional as it was a fixed price buffet menu. The starters were greasy and I've had better from the supermarket, the duck was o.k, the mains were ok. But very small.

Had a great meal there, plenty of choice on the menu. You do have to eat all that you order to prevent you from going crazy ordering. Their evening fixed price menu even includes pudding. Drinks are a tad pricey but no more than you might expect.

Yet again another fantastic meal. We visited on a Saturday lunch time as a group of 10, the food was piping hot and very tasty. Great service !!

Decided to go after hearing good reviews from other people. Food wasn't bad some of the dishes were a little too salty, but all the food was hot and cooked well. Not the best buffet Chinese I've been too but glad we decided to check it out.

Excellent Chinese resterant. The all you can eat buffet is very good. You order your food and it is freshly prepared. So no stale food that has been sitting under a heat lamp and been mauled by lots of people before you. Plenty of choice of food. The staff are friendly and efficient. Prices are resonable. Atmospher is good and your not rushed like other buffet resterants I've been to.

Love this restaurant. The staff is so nice and polite. The food is fantastic and can have as much as you like. Great for large parties. We have been there on quite a few occasions and always enjoyed it.

The food is fantastic, all you can eat and cooked to order, it's a competitive price however I do not agree with the price increase on a Friday/Saturday.The only thing that lets them down is their terrible customer, one male waiter in particular is so rude he grunts when he takes your order and never does he thank you for being a customer, but I only visit because the food is so good!Far better than the finger buffet at Izumi.

We have used the Ocean on a regular basis for several years and without fail the meals are always first-class. The buffet differs from the norm in that the unlimited food is cooked to order ensuring that it is fresh and hasn't been picked over by a rogue hand. The menu, Cantonese / Malaysian offers a more varied selection than you find in the average Chinese restaurant. One of my favourites is the stir fried lamb with chili and cashew nuts. The service is excellent and to have the door held open for you when you depart is like stepping back in time to when the customer was king.Handily located very close to the East public car park at the lower end of Maldon High Street.

'All you can eat' but cooked fresh to order. Very tasty, with a good range. It's one of my favourite treats.

Always get what you ordered. Been a customer for over 7 years. Fab food and delivered hot everytime. You will not be disappointed

We went to to Ocean last night for my sons 21st - just the family. He has always raved over the food as he has been there with his friends previously. I will admit that it was the best variety and quality of food yet. We all decided to choose our own dishes and then share them. The portions were of a decent size, freshly cooked and so flavorsome. We have eaten in many restaurants and had 'plastic' sauces. not so here. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the mussels huge and succulent, the noodles so well spiced. The wine was at a very decent price and not surprised that the restaurant was full. They had a birthday banner for Josh and sang 'Happy Birthday'. The quality of the food - each and every dish (we had approx 30 for the 5 of us) was fresh, clean and tasted amazing. We all said that we could eat it all again if we had the tummy capacity. Definitely recommended

My wife & I purposefully travelled to this restaurant because of the rave reviews on TripAdvisor. I hate to say it but don't be fooled by the other reviews - this place is nothing but terrible! In short, the food is of poor quality (bad cuts of meat, sauces are thin/watery and everything is pretty much fried). Hospitality is horrific - the guy grunted every time he asked for our order (we didn't order all courses because the food was so bad; that said, we were polite and dutifully paid the full bill). Seriously, if you're looking for great Chinese food you need to go to Banquet 1408 in Copford or Zenxi in Chelmsford...never again will we go to Ocean Chinese in Maldon...it's not worth it!

We love the Ocean. Visit regularly and it never disappoints! The food is amazing and such good value. It is a set price £14.95 for adults and then you choose anything off the menu. We always have, starters, then soup, duck and pancakes, main, desserts. It's perfect for family dinner, couple and friends.Best place in Maldon. The staff are amazing and very friendly.

This is an all you can eat type restaurant with a bit of a difference in as much as you order from a menu. The food is then freshly cooked and bought to your table. You are able to order as many dishes as you like but the condition is that if you order a dish and then don't eat it you can be charged extra for it. I think this is reasonable as it stops people over ordering and then wasting good food. I would suggest this is a good venue for good quality Chinese food at a fair price I have to say it would not be my choice if I was looking to take my wife out for a special occasion but for a general meal out with family or friends then you can't beat it.

We travel from Clacton to go to this Chinese, the food is always spot on and the service is fantastic! They do buffet style food but they waiter on you so order as much as you want. I honestly can't falter this place, if in Maldon this Chinese is a MUST!!

Great Chinese but not the best decor. The Chinese food is great but not exceptional and the set price is good value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful but the decor needs a little bit more as it's very bland. All in all a good Chinese and will be going back.

The food was very nice. It was lovely and fresh and always came out piping hot. Service needs a lot of improving as twice (both different servers) we ordered food and only got half of it which meant we spent most of our time chasing up our food. One example was we were missing five dishes and we explained what we were missing and they kept just brining one thing out. I also got the feeling they didn't understand that we'd already ordered it as they kept going to write it down as if taking our order again. They also would give us a choice of portion size (for example he asked if we wanted 3,4 or 5 sweet & sour chicken balls each we said 4 and only received 3)..While they are quick to take plates away they leave your main plate instead of bringing a fresh one between courses. Not a major problem but something many people wouldn't like.I would come again but only as a couple or very small group as they seem to struggle when they have large parties (there were only 7 of us and they struggled but there was a larger group behind us which I believe was also part of the problem).

Went here for the first time with my family for my daughter’s birthday. We always order our takeaway from here but had never been to eat here before and im not sure I would again.We arrived and seated no problems there restaurant is clean, tidy so no issues.A young woman came over to take our drinks order but as she hardly spoke any English had to get a second waitress to help her so not so good.First course ordered no problem, when it came to the main that was a different story, the male waiter took out order but we were missing 5 dishes from our group which meant we keep getting our food one item at a time so that was not good at all.All the food when it did arrive was fresh and tasty, however as its buffet style the plate you get for your starter has to also be used for your main, which again is not nice. Lastly you are only given a folk and spoon to eat with no knife or chopsticks. In the end we got bored waiting for our drip feed style food and gave up complaining about what was missing, put it this way it maybe all you can eat but after waiting so long for one item at time frankly we were bored and gave up.Would I go back unlikely but I would recommend the take away side as food is lovely.
