Nice pub, not had food just stopped for a pint when walk the dogs.

Appalling service, went for a wedding anniversary meal, took over 30 minutes from the first plate arriving to the last to arrive, had to ask for veg, which had been sat in a Bain Marie of some sort and re heated as pees we’re dull and shrivelled, and gravy and the extras ordered. Food was mediocre and just warm, ask to speak to the manager who wouldn’t come out to see anyone, all they could do was to remove the extras that arrived once people had finished their food! Obviously don’t care about their customers or reputation at all, avoid with all means. Dirty environment also!

Had heard many good things about the place but must say was left a little deflated. Kitchen and waiting Staff all friendly and couldn't do enough. Didn't like the fact that the owner kept walking in and out of the kitchen with bare feet. Bar staff harldy seen and not much availability when it came to drinks. Food was nice but not much atmosphere, after my experience I can say it's not worth returning

Definitely no longer dog friendly! We were in the area and searched for a dog friendly pub nearby for lunch. This pub came up 17 mins away so we headed there. We were told we couldn’t go in with dogs, but could sit in the garden, which was fine until it started to rain just after we had ordered food. We were told they could pack it up for us to takeout. 45 mins later we got home and found not all the food was in the cartons. What was there was tasty, even after being reheated, but the whole experience put a bit of a dampener on the day. Really need to update the details online!

DON'T GET SCAMMED It totally ruined my holiday. I paid for a 4 night stay and drove to the place through half of the UK, only to find out that the apartment is not available. SCAM! Don't make the same mistake as me. I also read all the lovely reviews etc. Don't go by the previous reviews as the current situation has changed and now it's a scam!

Food was absolutely delicious hat of to the chef with a good pint and excellent customer service. Would highly recommend.

ITS NOW MAY 20204 and I HAVE HEARD THEIR ARE NEW OWNERS I have been back a few times since I first wrote is review, The food went down hill especially when i was served plastic beef from a supermarket for sunday lunch. Also who can put 11pm closing on a sunday when staff like to shut the pub by about 10pm. I dont use it anymore. This is really my local, went and had a Sunday lunch with family, the food was nice except for only having two meats. The staff were friendly and helpful. Will be back from time to time as I mainly drink at home now days.

5 of us came for food 2 of us had the mix grill it was absolutely disgusting the peppercorn sauce was like dish water had no taste, the hunters chicken was shredded chicken with some cheese and BBQ sauce on top was not pleased with the experience

Went today 21/02/2024). Compared to our last visit, today was shocking. Paid a fortune for poor over cooked Food. No refund offered. So disappointing. Will never go back. Gone down hill.

Food was mediocre, frozen chips, rump steak was a bit tough, but 2 grills for £15 I can put up with that. Staff and service were good, as was the beer. Also it's cash only!

We had never been before and We pre booked a table for food last night with family and my father in law who is disabled ... to start with the food was beautiful no complaints there but now on to the problem about being disabled friendly . My father in law has to use a wheel chair as can't walk far and uses 2 crutches to walk, there was no wheelchair access, and steps every way to food area .. we arrived and was left standing at the bar waiting he was struggling to stand for a long period. The bar staff took so long to ask us that we had to just seat ourself any where before being spoken to, Due to talking while getting glasses. my father in law then needed to use of the toilet there was no disabled toilet and again had to get up a step into toilet and push door with using 2 crutches . Then his legs gave way and he got stuck on toilet but due to door opening inwards my husband couldn't get his father up or help him... resulting in myself (daughter in law) going in the male toilets to help to find a staff member in the toilet but did not ask if we needed any assistance.. left us to the problem .. I had to climb on my father in law to get in the toilet to get him up off the toilet... this pub is not disabled friendly no we're we told it is cash only so we had to go all the way back to tesco to get from cash machine. I hope they they change this so everyone can use this pub

Fab meals at amazing prices, I would highly recommend this place for a meal.

Not living in Aberdare for many years, just visiting. I've not been to the Rhos for many, many years, but we booked a table on a recommendation. BIG mistake. A handwritten notice on the door stating cash only - this wasn't a great start! We reserved a table 2 weeks ago for 9 people, and we were not informed of this in advance. So we had to jump in the car back to Tesco to withdraw cash. The food was 50/50. Lasagne and curry were lovely, but the mixed grill(s) was inedible to the point that we didn't even know what meat we were eating. Overall, it was very disappointing. Great atmosphere if you just wanted a couple of beers, but I definitely wouldn't go again to eat unless some changes are made - someone who can actually cook and knows something about food. Prices were very reasonable, but thats still no excuse to serve poor quality/poorly cooked food. Oh yes, and remember to take cash! Which in 2023 is all very weird, and there is usually only one reason why businesses take cash these days - and its not legit reasons!

Stumbled on this place while out & about we had an Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch it was boiling hot & plenty of it , beef delicious & good price . Also dog friendly Thank you

I think I’ve had the most disgusting service ever! Myself and a few friends went to a local pub that served food, We would prefer to support local independent businesses, There was around 15 kids, 7 adults. So we Pre-Ordered the food. We arranged that we would be there at 6:30, and it all be served and completed by 8:30 so the parents can collect their children, The starters was brought out (slowly) around 7:15, by the time the last of the staters arrived, the first one had finished, Half hour or so later, the main course was being served, again slowly, Yet They hadn’t cleared the dishes yet from the starters, so nowhere really to put the plates down of the main dish, So when they had finally served the Main course, the food wasn’t too bad, One of the female adults went to the toilet, only to find that the lights wasn’t working, so she used the torch on her phone, She sat down and the seat was broken and caused her to fall onto the floor, When we went to the bar, it was Cash Only, so one of the kids asked for a can of Coke which cost £2, gave the bar staff a £10 note, Guess What! They couldn’t give change! 🤔 At 8:30, the parents were waiting to collect their kids, They hadn’t collected the plates from the Main Meal, And we hadn’t had the desserts 🍮 So we had to ask the venue to put the desserts in take away containers, We were expecting them to charge us for them, No apologies from the staff and their attitude was disgusting So , I don’t think we’ll be going to that place again!

I was disappointed with the food and cleanness needs to be addressed

Was looking for somewhere different this year to take my family for christmas dinner. Being a picky eater I did not like most of the veg so asked for it not to be put on. After a bit of discussion with the bar staff who by the way was excellent not just with us but with everyone and is a credit to the buisness ( I think her name was kelly) they were very accommodating. I would have given a five star if it wasn't for the chef. I would highly recommend going here as it is very good value for money.

I booked a week and a half went in there was a gang of boys screaming and and swearing no mixed grill no steak I had gammon you can have that anytime.not impressed

The cooking staff weren't particularly good food was good but the staff was about to be replaced as they weren't any good so next time should be a lot better will go again

I highly recommend this beautiful place held my daughters baby shower ere lastnight a table of 11,the food was stunning and the service was fab!!nothing was to much for the staff they made it so special for my girl!!thank you guys we will be back.

Food is ok, vibe not so much. It's a nice enough pub but a bit rough around the edges. It does attract a certain shady crowd though and on some visits while sitting in the beer garden I've heard some of them shouting, get a bit too rowdy talking about fighting people and with some quite nasty staffy/bully dogs off leads. Usually when you come in it's filled with the regulars and sky sports is blaring on the TV. The ale selection is ok with several cold/smooth flow ales, ciders and lagers and 1 main keg pump (usually with a Glamorgan ale on tap). It was much better before it closed and changed hands with a better atmosphere and Welsh cakes stout on tap. It's ok for an occasional visit but I can't say it's too great. The vibe isn't that good with the people who go there and staff can be a bit rude. Update 30/09/2023 we went here for the first time in ages. We ordered 2 pints of Glamorgan bitter. What a shocker, instant vinegar taste. Anyone that knows anything about ale will know this is a bad thing and it's off. The guy at the bar said he didn't drink and that's how it's supposed to taste but swapped them for lagers (nothing else on). A disgrace that this pub has gone downhill so much that they are happy to try and get away with serving off beer. I won't be back here again, ever.

Absolutely disgusting food ,iam a time served kitchen assistant ,went to this place for Sunday lunch lamb dinner ,the potatoes were over cooked the roasties were terrible small no taste ,then the rest of the food was all frozen produce, swede was frozen packet food so were the carrots and cabbage peas and Yorkshire Puddings the gravy was all bland and tasteless the lamb was boiled to much in water then cooked in the oven I've never tasted food like that in my life it was tasteless ,you should learn your chef how to cook ,who ever owns this place you should be disgusted serving food like that ,I would not recommend this place to anybody and I would question any other review on here for the Sunday lunch part saying the food was good when actually its appalling ,

We was invited to attend this establishment for a birthday party of 25 plus guests ordered food at bar took over 1.5 hours to arrive served hot good food priced fairly Entertainment provided A group of 8 /10 lads came in a sat opposite reasonable behaviour other than vapping inside this is not what we expected to cut our enjoyable evening short Spoke to the management team who's reply was that they are allowed as long as no one is eating he spoke to them asked if they would go outside to vape but totally ignored his request spoke to the gentleman again and apologised but seemed to not care as they are regularly vist the pub if this is what you want on a night out vist this pub Will not be visiting in a hurry regards Dean Simmonds

Nice atmosphere, reasonably friendly staff, some nice beers on tap like Glamorgan ale. Prices were pretty standard.

I had the steak baguette with chips and my partner had the scampi. My partner enjoyed his meal and a nice size portion. However, the steak baguette was inedible. Really disappointed with the meal. Great atmosphere up there though and great to see it busy again. I wouldn't rush back for another meal

beats a harvester hands down. nice bouncy castle for the kids in a good sized garden. we had 5 meals and meat was nice and tender. can get crowded so if you want to eat inside you may need to book.

Went for Sunday dinner very poor 40 minute wait for dinner to be served after ordering and about 35 mins for a dessert to be delivered 1 person had their dinner after everyone else had nearly finished theirs wont rush back

Sunday afternoon' tourists with 2 dogs. I entered the pub' to order food and drinks. A lady called out to me, "we are all booked up...we have bought food for guests that booked". No food for anyone else. Never have I walked into a pub confronted with such negstive approach. The manager entered the conversation saying exactly the same. No food, we have to feed these people first... I truly thought it was a joke or I had entered the fifth demension. Because every table was devoid of food. Nobody was eating. I left the pub, explained to my wife, whats happened. As we walked along the woodland path next to the pub, we entered into conversation with another dog walker. She laughed at our experienced and simply said, "Your better off". Its a terrible place...you wait almost 2 hrs for food...and well she describe the food. We were glad to have left' a lucky escape. I do hope anyone else gets a better deal. But be aware...if you enter you may not leave.

After hearing so much about The Rhoswenallt my sister and I went last night, very disappointed, was told no deserts, they hadn’t been taken out of the freezer in time to defrost, I had the rump steak which was cremated and very tough,I couldn’t eat it, my sister’s meal was ok (3 course for £8.95), my sister ended up taking her desert home (still frozen) Calvin (front of house) was amazing, very friendly, helpful and professional, the owners need to really look after him, in my opinion he is the saving Grace, 10/10 for Calvin.

The food is delivered by Holdsworth Foods which means it arrives as "chilled and frozen meals". This could be a really lovely pub with top quality food that has an excellent reputation that people will travel to. Definitely won't be eating here!!!!

From the minute we walked in there was a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very accommodating, as we had our dog we choose to sit outside but we did have the option of sitting in the bar. Our food was delicious and generous potions. We will definitely be back.

Went for a GCSE celebration lunch today. Booked a table for 7 well in advance even still one person ended up on the end of the table with very little room to eat. Only 1 menu on the table so we had to share that as staff said all menus were out. No specials or deals were told to us on arrival so we had to ask about them to be told "Oh yeah we got a deal on, on the wall there" Food took a very long time to come after ordering despite it not being busy. Staff were too busy sat around talking to help when asked about sauces and condiments, we were pointed in a direction of where there the sauces should be and when we explained there were none there some sachets were thrown on our table. When our food was taking longer than we expected we questioned this with staff, after the questioning the food was on our table with seconds, not hot but warm. 12 ounce gammon was ordered and the gammon was shockingly small, there was more gammon on the mixed grill than the actual gammon order. Chips were sent back due to being black in the middle from what looked like rotten potatoes, we were offered a replacement but we declined. Other than that food was quite tasty and everything came out as ordered. Service for me was well under par as I have heard good things about the place. Would maybe go back again in time but won't be rushing back soon.

Food looked amazing on social media and thought we would try it first hand for a birthday meal and the food tasted just as good and better than what the photos looked like. Everything we had was amazing- and all came out in good time. Service was spot on and there was a good selection of drinks on tap and bottle! Would highly recommend this place!

Great local pub full of customers enjoying the rugby and football and a lovely restaurant separate to the bar serving good bar food. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommended

I heard that The Rhoswenallt Inn had been taken over by new people, so I thought I would take my family there to try, and I must say it never disappointed at all. The staff were all smart and very helpful, and the chef came out to check all was ok, and she was very smart and professional. The pub was very clean and presentable, keep up the excellent work guys, I will defo be back soon.

Just want to say thankyou for a lovely meal lunchtime today. Even though you were really busy you managed to fit us in on the last free table...we will book next time. Food was very good value for money. I understand you have only just taken over but a few more gluten free options on your menu would be helpful as we are not all vegetarian. Maybe a note on the main menu to discuss gluten free options with staff, which is what I did and had a lovely gluten free gammon and chips thankyou. Will definitely be returning again and good luck.

Great little pub this, haven’t long moved to the area popped in with the dog for a cheeky pint on my way home. The food looked absolutely amazing and cheap too. Elle and Maddie I think they’re names are were really chatty and very polite

Just wanted to put this here as I cannot respond to the review below. I would like to thank this person for her review. We opened this week and brought life back to the pub with the great offers we have put in place. This review is incorrect, I have never been called arrogant in my life, but I would also like to point out that I am not a drag queen.... but I think that part of the review is a compliment. I apologised a number of times for the wait and tried to make light of the situation by making a fuss of your table and having a laugh with your group and so did the staff including the manager (who you know personally) so also that part of the review is also incorrect. Also all the tables were fully booked tonight and yes we admit that too many people were booked in as we did not take into consideration people turning up late to their bookings (which half of your group were 30 minutes late) and no walk ins were sat or served, as a result of this we have now changed our policy to only take upto tables of 10 until the kitchen and service staff get upto scratch on how we like to run our businesses. The shots that I gave out to the table sat near you were as a happy birthday to the gentleman on the table having a birthday meal with his family. I once again sincerely apologise for your experience with us this evening and do hope you give us a try again and if you do decide to try us again please ask for me or for the staff to contact me as there will be a dessert on me for your group.

I literally wouldn’t give this place even 1 star, beautiful pub, and overall lovely food HOWEVER… everything else is an absolute shambles. The owner is an arrogant drag artist, who not only sticks sly digs at customers, he also forgets this is a family pub.. putting his ‘act’ aside he needs to pipe down and have some empathy for customers who have spent between the table over £300 on food without mentioning we waited over 2 hours for. I by no means am one to complain, butttt after continuously asking can you advise how long it’s going to be as it was 8:45 at this point .. we were told ‘can’t you see we are busy’ with absolutely no apologies. There were numerous people leaving around us and requesting a refund. I completely understand this pub have just been refurbished and taken over by someone who is well experienced in the industry. When the demand cannot be met, DO NOT continue to sit walk ins down and take orders if there are people still waiting on food for 2+ hours, and when the food did arrive it was all incorrect. The owner even took shots to other tables complaining and completely bypassed us(not that we wanted them) but the ‘im so sorry we are over run and running a little behind’ would of gone a longggg way, instead we had ‘if the kids are hungry you should of fed them before coming’ another customer from a different table asked for an extra chair and the response was ‘oh your the moaner of the group are you’ If you knew any of the bar staff, you had your food within 20 minutes, how does this work? Again, the way we were treated was disgusting.. not that I wanted money back, or a free soft drink but a sorry would of gone a long way. Will not be visiting again, I will happily take my money where it is greatly appreciated and to a business that shows it’s customers respect. Shambles!!

A nice pub to stop in for a drink or food very friendly staff

Very disappointing, although the portions were good and the meal was reasonably priced, the Sunday dinner was tasteless and bland. Undercooked potato, tasteless cauliflower cheese (that cost extra) and the Yorkshire pudding wasn't freshly made.

What can I say? It was our 50th anniversary, and it was what we expected and more. Highly recommended, but booking may be needed. They have our vote. Very affordable prices.

Booked for my dads 75th birthday meal just 4 of us. The bar staff/waitresses were really helpful however food was disappointing. Asked for extra chips with a baguette but didn't get them. Also ordered mushroom sauce. We had started food when I asked for the sauce only to be told they didn't have any. Even though i had paid for it. So my advice make sure you ask them to check what you want is there before you pay . It's the young staff I felt sorry for. There seemed to be a few issues there today

I needed to book a reception following a funeral at fairly short notice and arranging everything by phone as I live in Cornwall. I hadn't been to the Rhos Wennalt for several years and was a bit worried as I heard that it had just been taken over. I spoke to Chris and Marika who arranged everything. They put on a lovely warm buffet for 30 people.I requested a few items and left the rest to them. Everyone commented on the quantity and the quality of the food. I don't know how they managed it for the very reasonable price. Thank you so much. I would highly recommend you.

Was really looking forward to trying the Rhos again. The staff are lovely but the food was poor and steak was tough. Get in a great chef and it will work.

Staff trying hard to be helpful, but really inexperienced and left alone with no real idea on how to run the business. We arrived at 6.30pm for drinks and food on a Saturday evening. At 7.15pm, when I went to the bar to order food, we were told the kitchen is too far behind and they had to close the kitchen. It wasn't really that busy at all and 3 staff were standing behind the bar and couldn't find work to do whilst the kitchen must have been struggling without end. The man power was there but no-one to give directions. Sad really as I was happy to spend a couple of hundred pounds there that night to celebrate, but ended up only having 1 Pint as we.needed to move on to find another restaurant on short notice.

Disappointing evening food wise. Alot on the menu unavailable and what we did have was only passable. Staff however were friendly and attentive and drinks reasonably priced. Will be a while before we visit again.

I went here for a meal with my family and I must say it was awful my steak was burnt and the service was super slow the week before we went to the Angel in glyneath and once again I had steak which was amazing it just melted in ur mouth so for anyone living in the aberdare area it's worth a couple of miles extra for a far superior meal

Food was okay. Staff were very obliging. Became very cold, needed to wear a coat when eating.

No vodka, no jacket pots, gammon was too salty to eat and I was told by the waiter that I added to much salt to it but I hadn't used any salt on my food as he could see. When I took the plate to the waiter with 2 small pieces of gammon tasted he brought it back to my table and said they had nothing else to give me and that was that. I then asked to speak to the manager who was upstairs, 15 minutes later she arrived and offered me soup for free which was very tasty but not filling and a free drink. The point I wish to make is the experience of a lovely night with friends was ruined by the lack of care given, not going there again plus the heating was off and we had our coats on most of the night.

Really good, simple, honest food. The menu isn’t going to win any Michelin stars, think of a standard pub grub menu with hunters chicken, rump steak and sticky toffee pudding and you’re about there. The simplicity, however, is matched with the quality. Good food, served promptly, nice and hot and with a touch of decoration and not just thrown together. Servers are very personable and great to chat to. Good selection of beers on tap, the wine list could do with updating to suit the food on offer rather than just ‘red’ or ‘white’, but I’m sure that will come with time. The dining room is a little drab and could do with a lick of paint, but as long as you’re in good company then this is easy to ignore. Well done to all the staff for making a great family meal.
