The Refinery New Street Square in City of London, Westminster

AVOID! You will pay much more than you expect. Ask for water and they bring a bottle. Turns out this costs £5. Ask for a pint of Diet Coke and they’ll charge you £7.90. Then they’ll add on a pound for some charity, and then on top of all that, they add 12.5% service charge. So a £16 salad (which was good) with a Diet Coke and water cost £36.21!!!

I had a great time at the restaurant. The food was spot on plus the amazing customer service.

Worst food place, not many veg options so had to take a vegan burger it was burnt and patti like plastic with a soft tomato which was disgusting too. Then asked for a strawberry cheesecake which was not a cheese cake but a glass of ice cream with strawberry sauce. Orange juice glass was full of ice and 2 sips of juice!!! Never again. Hence the low reviews clearly !!

Very average Malaysian chicken curry featuring at most only 2 bits of chicken. And almost inedible crusty naan bread. Service also average, short of staff perhaps.

We only had a coffee but we're very impressed. The service was excellent, the prices were reasonable for the location, and the decor and ambience were lovely.

Overpriced city food. We ordered cod and it was not fresh. When we told the waiter to have it returned to the kitchen, they insisted it was fresh and suggested our taste buds were off. Slightly offensive as I eat fish and shellfish all the time. It's actually my favourite. the dishes were replaced with their burger and chips but service was slow and we didn't have time to finish our meal. Very disappointing for a restaurant that targets busy lunchtime customers.

Good food, amazing service, a bit loud, but overall good!

Never again! We had our work Xmas lunch here. Possibly the worst venue to hold it at and I would recommend that you avoid this place at all costs! We were crammed in together like sardines, we waited over an hour for our first drink and then our food and drinks were chaotically served with huge intervals, and we had to effectively serve our own food, drinks and cutlery as there was no space for the waiters to pass through our tables, amongst many other issues! Clearly the venue wanted to pack as many people in to make the most money. Highly regret it and we will not be returning again for a Christmas lunch and I will not be recommending this venue in the future. Extremely disappointed and spoiled our Christmas party for 30 plus members of staff.

Sooo pretty yet the food is poor. Mulled wine excellent so maybe good for drinkies. Skip the food.

I had a wonderful experience at Refinery restaurant during my recent visit with my colleagues. This charming establishment offers a lovely atmosphere and delectable food. My personal favorite is the grilled salmon, which is always cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes with seaweed add a unique and delightful twist that I can't get enough of. Moreover, the customer service at Refinery is consistently top-notch. The staff is attentive, friendly, and truly goes the extra mile to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Went for our work social. It was a nice place to social but the staff took long to get drinks and water. The food needed to be labelled for dietary needs but it wasn't labelled accordingly. We had to ask the assistant many times to identify the food. Needed more people on site (outside) and food labelling required.

I had a great experience! The cocktails were delicious and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends!

Was here with a large group for our end of year celebration. Food was tasty and service was very efficient and friendly. Would come back to try for a meal.

Great beers and amazing Fish and chips

Excellent venue for what was a private party. Staff were amazing and could not do enough. Food was really good with lots of small bite type portions as well as a meats, cheese and fruit spread. Only sad thing is closing at 11:45, but there is no real option given there are residential properties nearby. Thoroughly recommended.

What a superb birthday event I had at The Refinery New Street Square. The salt and pepper squid was crispy and perfectly cooked. Followed by the stunning chalk stream trout. I was made a real fuss of with excellent table service from Henry. Thank you very much to the whole team. I am planning on another visit next week.

Well situated, near the Rolls Building, but in a quiet square. Spacious inside, with a large terrace outside. Food and wine are above average for the area, and prices are reasonable. Swift service.

Visited with colleagues for lunch on Thu 2nd. I can only speak of my meal but the fish and chips were shocking. The fish tasted 'soapy', no seasoning, the batter was soaking and it was clear this was not fresh but frozen, maybe even defrosted in a microwave. The side portion of mushy peas looked like it was something you find down the front of tramps shirt.

Our party was messed around by the staff working at the time, left to wait 15m, sent to a table to only be sent away again. We were given no opportunity to “dine or drink”. Thank you for taking the time to respond, I hope you’ll be more accommodating to patrons in the future.

We ordered a seafood platter to share (for two people). The platter was delicious and very filling (as the food were quite heavy/a lot of fried, oily food). The waiters were friendly and they have an easy ordering service via your phone.

Really lovely staff. Given its location, it’s an extremely popular venue with a great atmosphere. Food is great and they have a good selection of cocktails. Wednesday and Thursday nights tend to be quite busy and it’s hard to get a table without booking far in advance

It would be good for every D&M venue to inform when they have private events on their Google business listing at least (it takes only a second to do this). It's frustrating to go up just to see a note on the door saying closed for a private event and as these are so common for D&M communicating them would really be key.

Lovely surroundings, attentive staff and good value

Terrible place to work at, managers stealing tronc (keeping it for themselves), hours not being put on for the work you do most of the time, getting treated worse than the minimum wage you work for. The aesthetics are nice but it doesn’t reflect the treatment of staff👍

Recieved excellent service from Gareth and Charlotte, only had drinks here and were seated in a nice quiet corner booth. Cocktails were nice but quite small.

Hmmmmm, has the potential to be great now that the classic old pubs have gone (Cartoonist and the City Retreat) but doesn't seem to like, or isn't keen on, people coming in off the street for a quick time eating drink. House wine is excellent though and the staff are very, very nice.

Those of us that do occasionally drink here, we do so for one reason... It's next to our office! And given the size of the office blocks surrounding New Street Square, they could probably pour pints of dishwater and still get punters through the door... How lazy we are! The service? Wow! And I mean that... Wow, it is so bad. When it's busy, I have been know to walk to other local establishments and walk back with my beers! 'it's convenient', my less well informed colleagues argue. It's terrible, I reply. Even when the bar is empty will take a very long time to get served. Don't believe me, pop in and try for yourself. The lunchtime food and service is fine (that bumped the score up to 3). The floor is solid, it has a staircase and if raining it will keep you dry. Other than that, Im struggling for positives!!

Great place for drinks and partying

I went here for drinks on a whim with a friend a while back. I was pleasantly surprised by it. We enjoyed ourselves, the atmosphere was good and the drinks not too heinously expensive. It's a good option if you're looking for somewhere to relax after work.

This is a great location and the Restaurant/Wine bar looks very inviting. However the menu is a bit weak. I ordered the roasted jerusalem artichokes with lentils and prunes, I received prunes, prunes and more prunes (13 in all) with about 3 pieces of artichoke and plenty of lentils. The chef needs to keep an eye on this and the seasoning which was not great at all. Not for the laxative intolerant! A great pity.

Had a work team Christmas meal. The food was largely bad. One of the worst attempts I've ever had. Rock hard veg, badly cooked roast potatoes and there was more stuffing than actual turkey wrapped around it. That said those who ordered more tradition pub meals had it much better. Steak and chips looked good. Service was ok, it wasn't busy. Were a couple of random issues. I asked for a knife for my cheese board. Was given a very large steak knife. Bit odd. We were also told that they needed our table back but to take our time.... As long as it was within 5 mins. Again a bit odd. Decor and drinks were good. Bar staff all very good.

A beautiful place to drink a beer with friends

W T F Poured me a pint of meantime that wasn't a full pint had to ask to be topped up...it was topped up with head not beer...my girlfriend's half of peroni had too much head so the bar person wiped their finger over the top to remove it! Basic hygiene much?

Hired out for a corporate function. The venue and food was ready on time. It was a great evening, clients were very much impressed. Food tasted AMAZING. Looking forward to visiting again.

Breakfast here was good. Not huge portions but tasted good and very fresh eggs. Was quiet too so good for early morning meetings. Had lunch here a few times too. Food again generally good, fairly standard pub offerings.. Service has been a bit slow in my experience, but staff reasonably friendly.
