Nice place , exceptional service. Good food just chicken too dry

Booked and paid for a heated garden room, as soon as we were seated at 6:55pm the heater went off we informed them on several occasions that it wasn’t working , by 8.15pm it was that cold we left, and when we did receive our food you needed to eat it that quick because it would have gone stone cold because it was freezing in there. Wasn’t even offered a refund for the hire of the room. So not very good customer service at all.

Lovely meal with friends, waitresses were good, food was good apart from the crumble which was a bit “floury”… Otherwise tasty. We were not rushed at all.

Booked for a large group for set Christmas dinner ( not on Christmas Day just a night in Dec ) Paid what I was told was a £50 refundable deposit upfront. When we came to pay the bill at the end of the night , the deposit wasn’t deducted as I was told it would be. We were informed it was for Non refundable “room hire” we didn’t have a special room ! We were in the pub. It was cold and although I asked 3 different staff members including the manager to turn the radiator on nobody did. I assumed this must be an error of the pubs part but no, Luke the manager insisted that it was common practise to charge a room hire fee!! I have never been charged a fee like this before unless it was a private party room hire. Absolutely ludicrous!! The manager Luke then admitted it was his error and he’d made a mistake as he was new when I made the booking.. and said he’d waive the £50 fee as a goodwill gesture! He was not apologetic at all. It was a horrible, embarrassing end to the evening and I won’t be returning even though the other staff and food were really nice. This shows how poor management and people skills can really adversely affect a business. Ps - I don’t usually leave reviews but our Christmas night out was spoiled and I felt I had to.

As usual a great lunch! Back again next week!

Update 29th October 24 Couldn't be bothered to cook so popped in for a late lunch. Absolutely great. The food was great.. no delays considering the place was heaving. Wonderful service. Booked for tomorrow's Sunday carvery. Great.. 2 days no cooking! Update 12th Nov 23 Wow.. enjoyed a fabulous carvery meal today. Generous portions, beautifully cooked meat and great mix of vegetables and sundries... Will definitely be back 👍🏼👍🏼 Update 3rd Oct 22 Fantastic meal yet again. Love the menu options and the board specials. Staff great as usual 👌🏼 Update.. 18th May 22. Back for an evening meal... Absolutely fabulous.. quality of meal.. exceptional.. as was friendly efficient service The hub of Rothwell. Fantastic food and setting.. a delight to visit and spend a relaxing hour or so with attentive pleasant staff Thumbs up from me and highly recommend. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

The red lion ,did a marvellous job doing a carvery for my mother's 90th .They provided an excellent meal for 70 people .The staff were really helpful. I would highly recommend .

Came in for lunch yesterday, lady with red hair served us with red hair called Abbey, she was so polite and friendly and made our experience so l much better giving us guidance on the menus for the allergy on the table which was great. Never been before but will certainly be back with family for another great experience!

Lovely public house not too busy but looks beautiful. A tasty pint in what seemed like a new glass. Toilets are clean and tidy, staff friendly, very welcoming, and this place is disabled friendly. 5 stars to stuff for a lovely experience. Would highly recommend. Plenty of parking

Pretty average food for pretty average prices, nowt to shout home about. Had the brie and cranberry baguette with bacon. Bacon was crispy, it was nice and cheesy, but was slapped on a part baked baguette like you get from asda, and the chips were pretty dry.

Popped down with my little brother for some food on a Friday afternoon and the food was brilliant as usual. Good quality ingredients and cooked well, I’ll be back again soon cheers.

Myself and my sister went to this pub on Saturday 22nd June, we knew they did food, upon entering we stood there for a good 10mins as it stated wait to be seated, a young girl who we later found out was called Alice was extremely rude. We asked shall we order food at the bar, to be bluntly told just order at bar Alice shouted this 3 times, the pub was not busy, we decided to take a seat and my sister went to the bar ordered drinks and food, when sister came back with drinks, gin and tonic and vodka ,we noticed hair in our drinks, she then took them back to which Alice was tutting and said it was in the ice! Do they not clean that out then ! Alice then said what do you want ! Well another drink without hair, the looks she was giving were making us feel very uncomfortable, my sister was also sticking to the bar and behind the bar was very dirty lemons, limes, tissues all on the floor, after a little while a young girl then asked us if we wanted food? Er we were told order at bar, from where I was sitting I had a good view of bar and all Alice was doing was staring at me ! Our food arrived by a lovely man, as we was asking for sauces Alice stood next to him and said I need to speak with you now, I said not until he has brought us cutlery and sauces, to which the dirty look was disgraceful, we asked the young man for the manager because this was to much now, Evelyn the manager came over we explained everything and how uncomfortable we were and the hair in our drinks, she was apologetic but no offer of a drink off the bill, it then got worse went to the toilet sick was everywhere all over floor , we told staff but they just left it ! This place is disgraceful, if you want to be made to feel unwelcome and like sticking to the floor an tables , bar and unuseable toilet then go ahead,

The food was good, although breakfast on the Sunday was not nearly as good as Saturday. Pizza was really good and the pulled pork burger was good on Friday but not so good on Saturday. On the whole drinks service was very good although the bar staff did seem to struggle at times when it was busy. The staff were very friendly though.

The Red Lion provided the function room and catering for a large family funeral. The food and service were amazing and helped a very sad day for our family run really smoothly. Christine

Due to an annual fair there was no parking available. The pub element of the property was closed during our stay. Neither of which was mentioned in property description. Getting into bed l realised despite the bed looking made there was a large still wet urine patch in the double mattress. Staff seemed unconcerned or apologetic.They accommodated one of our party in another room...and then acted like they had done us a favour. Top tip...if someone is complaining about a urine soaked mattress...don't try and defend the situation. If they had the decency to acknowledge the fact it was disgraceful it would have been something. Instead they acted like this was unexceptional and my having to sleep on a urine wet mattress was somehow acceptable. The lowest...and I genuinely mean the lowest level of customer service I have experienced in quite some time. The saddest thing was none of the staff appeared to understand just how awful they and their accommodation are.

Lovely venue for any party. Amazing pizzas and DJ was good too. Would highly recommend.

Food and service was great but parking is really difficult in the area due to it being right in the centre of everything in the town. Dog friendly and was accessible for a wheelchair user.

Very good value for money. Location great for this one trip. Having a separate bathroom took a little getting used to. Food really good. Service from all the staff, there were plenty of them, excellent.

Lovely place for a drink! Nice outside area and staff are friendly, polite and very helpful. We had a snack and some drinks and were very happy with the drinks and food.

We had a steak was cooked nice , pasta dish was very dry nothing what said on menu regarding ingredients except few tomatoes my partner had to put my pepper corn sauce to give the pasta abit of taist.

Went to the comedy night at The red lion the other night great laugh something different to do on a Friday night in a great venue and great service didn't have to queue too long for a drink inbetween acts . There is always a warm welcome at The Red Lion lovely place ti sit and have a drink anytime of day or year family run bussiness that are always putting in different events for their customers.

Recently had my wedding reception & everything was great. We had The Old Barns. Staff were great, food as always was amazing! I can never fault them. We had a small wedding & everything was exactly how we wanted it. Would recommend for multiple events.

Food didn't taste so good, I had the hanging chicken kebab, chicken was tough and plain. The toilets were in a shameful manner, absolutely filthy

Brilliant pub and well worth the drive from another village - it's our new sanctuary away from the kids. The staff are brilliant along with the garden rooms outside

We booked last year for a group of 8 ladies. This year it was a group of 17 ladies who booked 2 pods in the gardens for lunch. It was a great experience. It was nice and warm and blankets were available if needed. Plus a Bluetooth device for us to play our music on. The food we pre-ordered was delicious and the service was got from all the staff was excellent. Our waitress who it turns out was the manager Emma was brilliant..Would definitely recommend it.

Tasty food and large portions with good service

Lovely garden pods that were heated. A bell and speaker installed to communicate with the bar/restaurant. Didnt need to use it as the waitress was very attentive and for my part, inthought well trained. Unusual these days. Food was utterly delicious!

Came for Christmas Eve meal. Service was good and loved our waiter, food sadly was a let down. Meat was very dry possible cooked before and warmed up. We loved the live music and the vibe which is why I gave 3 stars. Hope the food is improved as I do love it here and the location .

Booked for Xmas lunch in a pod with friends. When we arrived the pod was not set up for Xmas lunch. The pod itself was good and the girls serving put the heating up for us. They explained the system well, and sorted the crackers, salt & pepper etc. The food was OK, and the veg plate arrived hot. The meats were cooked nicely. Unfortunately the roast potatoes seemed like they had already been cooked before and the outer skin was tough and not very hot. The gravy would have been nice if it had been made with juices to give it flavour and should have been piping hot. I appreciate its difficult these days to the get food out hot. But the main course was a bit mediocre. The saving grace was the puddings which were delicious. I have attended events there before and its been great.

A lovely location for our Christmas Jingle and Mingle. The wood fired pizza was delicious and there was a good selection of drinks. Staff were friendly and attentive and the venue itself was stunning. Highly recommended.
