The Real Ale Classroom in Leicester

Very lucky to have the Classroom as my local. Superb selection of beers (cask and keg) that are regularly changed. Nice seating area out the back with some covered areas, and in good weather there’s seating on the pavement at the front too. Their seating isn’t the most comfortable, but the great beers more than make up for any discomfort!

Do NOT hire this place out. We offered the owner a fee to hire the venue out for a wedding but he declined, saying that as long as enough money was made behind the bar. We put close to a grand behind the bar and much more was spent on top. He agreed that we would have the venue from 7pm to 11pm but on the day him and his friends were playing a poker game at the front and didn't leave for hours (there was a foul smell emanating around the poker game, to make matters worse). Throughout the evening the owner kept rubbing the fact that the venue was hired out 'for free' (it wasn't) and was consistently rude and hostile. Later he brought this up again in front of our guests and had a go at us for playing music too loud despite the fact we immediately turned it down. If we knew he was going to be this disgusting and hostile, we would have gone elsewhere. Owners should not let their mood/personal problems affect their services.

Owner tried to embarrass my good friends on their wedding celebration. Not a good look, will not be returning.

The owner is strangely rude and lies about what services they provide. We organised to have a small wedding here, agreeing to have the venue free of charge from 7-11pm. We offered to pay a hiring fee but Steve refused and offered the venue for free. We put £700 behind the bar and people bought many more drinks after this was done - the pub made a lot of money in 4 hours. Hiring a bar free of charge on the condition money is made behind the bar is very common. But Steve took every opportinity to make us feel awkward and like he was doing us a massive favour by constantly reminding us that we were getting the venue for free... again he made over a grand off us and our guests in this 4 hours. His weird and rude behaviour soured the evening. Steve was playing poker with his friends at the front when the wedding started, and when asked what time this would finish he said 'I'm not telling them to leave, it will finish when it finishes' - this is not what we agreed and we would have chosen elsewhere if we knew that Steve was lying when he said we would have the venue to ourselves during the agreed upon time. He also came down during the wedding party and said the volume was too loud, we turned it down and apologised even asking if the adjusted volume was suitable, to which he again reminded us infront of all our guests that we got the venue for free and that if we didn't like it we could leave - he said this to the bride and groom in front of the entire party despite us being compliant. We tried our best to be as polite and friendly as possible and spent a lot of money at the bar, but this was met with Steve's relentless need to make us feel that using this venue was a favour and his consistently hostile behaviour throughout was insulting, rude and incredibly disrespectful. We simply would not have chosen this venue if we knew Steve would contradict our agreement and be so bizarrely hostile.

Absolutely spot on real ale pub. If you like your beer this is a must visit establishment. Superb choice of real ales. Very friendly staff, loads of seating. Did I mention good beer. Next time we’re here we’ll be dropping in.

Web site says closes at 8 pm on a Sunday. No closed at 7. Beer choice limited, one off. Remaining 3 all IPA light type beers, no darker beers, porter, stout or Christmas ale. Not impressed. One more visit and if beer choice so limited I will give up.

A tiny gem of a pub (micro) Great beer, great atmosphere, great crowd. One of my all time favourites. Only caveat is that you do pay high end prices but personally, given everything else, I think its worth it.

A great little micropub in a really nice part of the city. Good selection of constantly changing cask and keg ales, all well kept. The cask is gravity dispensed. Parking is available on street outside, though it can be difficult to find a space at busy times.

Beer garden was a pleasant surprise - not for those who can't navigate steps or have had a few too many - and the drinks impressed too e.g. strawberry cider from a box or the gins 😁

Lovely chilled place. Stopped here after getting a haircut nearby (hairdresser recommended) as I love a craft beer. Great cask selection. Brought my partner back the following week as we were in Leicester again the week after.

This pub is an absolute gem. Always stocking great beers, and the locals are always friendly and chatty. I recently discovered the beer garden, which is packing plenty of heating n' seating. Cheers!

We visited recently to treat our elder brother who has had a stroke recently. Group of 5 adults. The bar maid was very welcoming. There is a good choice of craft beers , some had the stout and i had alcohol free IPA which was refreshing. We had 2 rounds. It was a sunny afternoon so had a lovely relaxing time. Recommend if you like craft beers.

My uncle, who is about as hilarious as a wet fish in the face, kept telling me about this place, (I teach, hence he wanted to take me to a classroom). The pub did not disappoint. Amazing selection of ales and beers. A lovely vodka selection too. Great seating, real science lab stools, a great evening indeed. Bravo all involved ☺️

the newly opened beer garden has taken this pub to the next level. lots of open space now and room to catch up with friends. dog friendly. fantastic selection of alcohol including a large gin and spirits collection, all with suggested mixers and garnishes. presentation lovely. staff attentive. they do food which you can order by whatsapp too - i haven't tried it but my parents tell me the food is really good too.

Great staff, great environment, beer garden is a welcome addition and a great selection of drinks! It's about the only place I'd go on the rare occasion I get a night out!

Amazing ales and so many different varieties to try no mattee what ale strength you desire, There's something for everybody, unfortunately at the moment believe its temporary closed due to covid reasons. 😔

First of all, beer. Great variety of cask and keg beers, lager and cider, regularly changing, well described on the board and by the staff who clearly love their jobs. With quality gins and tonics and a good selection of bar snacks, there's something for any non ale obsessed companions too. Some might say it's small, I'd go for cosy.

A small micro-pub, with an excellent range of fantastic ales. In addition to its very pleasant and nostalgic "Classroom"-themed internal spaces, it has a street table area, where we enjoyed a very pleasant hour.

Managed to find this place at the end of a very long pub crawl. Left this pub ever so slightly broken.

A lovely little pub with a real sense of community. Always busy but not crowded. Reasonably priced and a well themed decor. Welcoming for families and dog owners. Live music every now and then. I'd return more often if it was a little closer to home.
