We decided on the spare of the moment to try a new Indian restaurant. I am so glad we visited The Raj. From the moment we entered till the moment we left we found all the staff to be very friendly and very customer focused. As it was our first visit, we opted for the set meal for two. The bill came to just under £60 with a couple of drinks added. The food was absolutely delicious and plenty of it. With a complementary shot of baileys to finish off a great night of eating and drinking. We will definitely be going back.

If i could put a zero for service I would! Avoid this place like the plague. As a former regular takeaway customer sometimes using twice a week our family has finally had it with this place for months on end they would constantly get the orders wrong or miss items out. Then they put a competition on facebook to predict the England score which i did on the day of the game at 13.59pm England kicked off at 2000pm and won 2-1 against Holland i claimed my free curry and got 10 pound off my 35 pound takaway order. The next day i get a phone call off anhar the little bald angry mouthy fella who owns the place the one who usually bullies his staff in front of people sat down having a meal anyway he went on to tell me i cheated and he will bad mouth me all over social media even though i proved to him via screen shots that i hadnt and he kept goin on with himself i even said is this how you speak to all your regular customers then he replied you never come into the restauraunt even though he knows full well that i do i got fed up with him in the end and put my wife on the phone who he carried on whinging to her so she hung up on him. Anyway we have used the raj for large family meals and takeaways in the past and spent a lot of money over the years but not anymore after his little outburst we will no longer be spending a penny in that place ever again

Have visited many, many times since The Raj first opened in the village in its original premises until now. Have always enjoyed a fantastic experience and have made some precious memories to treasure with family centred around this excellent venue. Food is consistently delicious, served by friendly staff. Anhar is a brilliant host and thoroughly deserves the top class reputation he has gained for both himself and The Raj.

Always a good meal everytime I've been, large tables for big groups so we have always been able to get a table booked, staff are always friendly and helpful.

Im not a huge fan of Indian food, but the Raj is the one place I enjoy going. The food is distinctive, spicy, and tasty without the need to blow your head off with heat. Don't get me wrong, the heat is there on the menu if you want it, but for those of us who enjoy the spices and flavours of Indian cuisine, then I thoroughly recommend the Raj

I have travelled all over the world and eat in many different restaurants. This restaurant has not only amazing food but first class friendly helpful service. Zac and sal as far as customer service goes you scored 20 out of 10 thank you for a fantastic night and see you soon

12 June 2024 ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubster Neil, Son Max and myself to Raj in Cultcheth, our gorgeous Rhi wasn’t able to be with us this evening but I’m sure will come on our next visit, as the dishes were so, sooooooo good. Starters: Max had vegetable samosas, Neil and I both had King prawn puri…… Entrées: Max had Chicken tikka, chilli Massala…. With pilau rice. Neil had Chicken tikka Jalfrezi with mushroom rice. I had Akbari Chum Chum….. Tandoori chicken breast, spicy sauce, minced lamb, sultanas and sliced almonds….chunks of tomato and onions, along with onion rice. 2 peshwari naans to share…… it was all top…TOP scran, the dishes were piping hot, with great presentation….. Definitely up there with the best curries we tasted. The restaurant sets right back with plenty of room inside. The wait for food was just cooking time….. The waiters were very well mannered and attentive…. Perfect service. It does get busy, so booking ahead is advisable. Would we be back….. ‘Most definitely!!’…xxx❤️

Visited The Raj in Culcheth last Saturday. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The food from start to finish was excellent. Not the first time we've been and will definitely visit again soon.

5 of us had a meal at the Raj last night, have to say it was very very good! The restaurant is tastefully decorated, lovely atmosphere, the staff are so attentive, like to interact, which is always nice. Everyone eats out to enjoy the food, so if you like Indian food, this place is a must imho. We all had different mains and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our choice. Food £££ worked out at roughly £20pp Well done the Raj 🙌

The food hygiene rating is literally ONE out of FIVE. The owner Anhar is always sniffed up, seen him with cash laid out at the bar for gambling which is unprofessional, he’s a dodgy character and puts on an act to get customers in. Don’t be fooled by the ‘awards’ they receive. The food that customers eat is stored outside in a damp wooden shed which is very unhygienic - sacks of onions piled up on top of each other, garlic squished at the bottom of a pallet and greasy pans left on tables outside which all probably attracts rats. Go and have a look, it’s easy to see from the field side at the back of the restaurant and has been noted by the Food Standards Agency. The Raj are now paying for a higher rating when the agency next arrive in Feb but the current rating reflects the true state of the place. More food such as eggs are stored next to the staff toilet. Inside the toilet, there’s no toilet paper so god knows how they clean themselves and their hands before preparing food, they leave the toilet door open too. So if you’ve ever gotten food poisoning it wouldn’t surprise me why. A disabled customer would not be even able to access the disabled toilet because of the amount of junk being stored in there plus it’s unclean. Because of how the owner abuses his position and speaks to adults who work for him and no doubt his staff, like dirt, this place honestly deserves to fail.

Brilliant service and very attentive staff. The managers and staff were very proactive and visible while ch made th service excellent. Food extremely good and will definitely recommend and return again.

Best takeaway food in the area. Ready on time and quality exceeds all the others we have tried and discarded. Our go to now for top class Indian food and service

Went for my cousins birthday and ordered a lot of food and drinks, the meal itself was okay but the staff were so unprofessional and rude. The manager was cutting us off and walking away when we asked for the rest of our order and the girl server had dirt under her nails. The nail in the coffin was when we took home the food we didn’t finish they mixed 4 different curry dishes in one container. Won’t be returning and anyone who asks will be advised not to go

Fantastic food and service from The Raj. We really enjoyed the food and the service was perfect. We ordered the mix starter and chicken chat puri for starters, so much flavour and variety to choose from. For the mains we ordered chicken tikka naga and lamb curry with special mix briyane. It tastes aboustley amazing. The spice and the flavour was fantastic, perfectly cooked and fresh taste. The service was spot on from start to finish, they made us feel really welcomed. 5 star service from The Raj team. I would highly recommend to family and friends. 20 mins away from Gullivers World which is a bonus. Thank you very much to everyone at The Raj.

Absolutely great Indian restaurant. The staff make you feel so welcome. The portions are massive but soo tasty 😋 Lovely atmosphere. Very busy so best to book but once you have been you will want to return. Highly recommend

We had a takeaway this evening to start ordered 5 pops that were not in the order also a mixed starter for 2 wasn’t enough for 1 the main courses were all bland and tasteless I have eaten in here in the past and was good but the takeaway was very very poor to say the least.

Waited over an hour for food until 10pm when the restaurant closed. Waiters were cleaning tables and staring at us never asking if anything was wrong. Blatant disrespect by the staff and the waiter kept interrupting our order to talk to his friend. When we went to ask for the bill for the drinks we had we were swarmed with staff who were very condescending. Won't be returning

My favourite takeaway of all time

Food is delicious but small portions. Services wasnt great took good 20mins to get drinks each time we asked.. no one came round asking if everyone was ok or wanted top ups. Order was incorrect when it arrived we got a dish we never even ordered then was waiting for correct dish. I was highly recommended to go The Raj.... and i must say was really disappointed by the service 😕 sorry.

Went for a works do. Front of house were great however the food was pretty average. Busy restaurant which was nice to see.

We're up in the area seeing friends, and they took us here last night. We had a great evening. The food was supberb. I must say that our garlic and coriander naan, was one of the best I've ever had. The staff are very friendly, and the service excellent.

Top lads and had a nice meal in the restaurant. Was gonna order takeaway tonight but £6.05 for a Pershwari nan...really? £127 for a set meal for 4...Wow! They are having a laugh. Ordered same at Culcheth Massala for £40!

I am not into Indian food. I haven't done my apprenticeship. But food was good. Had Cobra and Staroprama on tap. Service swift and attentive.

Order arrived 35 minutes after it said it would, one of the currys wasn’t in the bag. Rang up and they said they’d send it out ASAP, after 25 minutes it still wasn’t here, rice and naan were cold at this point. Rang back up and said sorry they’ll send it out now, finally arrived 35 minutes after they said they’d originally send it, and the curry was cold when it finally arrived.

Its just fantastic, meat is really good quality, everything tastes fresh and sharp. Worth the £5 delivery for us now we've moved. Easily the best Indian takeaway in a 10 mile radius. Only wish I hadn't forgot to order onion bhaji

The food was good value. There was a serious mistake with the bill. Perhaps it's time to stop issuing handwritten bills. A printed and itemised bill is standard procedure at most restaurants.

Absolutely shocking service. Got told our order would be ready to pick up at 19:20 but I waited an extra hour until someone brought it out. Other customers was getting free bottles of beer / wine for waiting and yet just because I asked for a refund because I had to leave, 50 minutes after waiting, I got told "no you can't do that it will be out in a minute just be patient" which also resulted in me not receiving anything for the inconvenience. After waiting an hour wouls you say the food was worth it? No, it's just overpriced for what it is with hardly any flavour in the tikka chicken or the curry sauce. I wouldn't go here again there is other Indians in the area far better I quality and service.

Best Indian in Culcheth by a country mile. Take away or eat in, the quality is always there. Chicken Khumbi one of my favourites. Anhar, the owner is very welcoming and staff are helpful if you are a stranger to Indian food. The Raj gives a lot of support to the local community. Free food during lockdown to deserving families for example, and sponsors various local events. They deserve to be supported in return.

Best curry I had in a very long time! The quality of the food is incredible and everything is so tasty. The atmosphere and staff are very nice and made us feel very welcome. Can't wait to be back!
