Nice traditional pub with good atmosphere ….. the bands that play there are an attraction….very good . I like the drinks , real ale here Holts being the main cask . They have Jazz on a Sunday and Tuesday and it gives a chance to young musicians to show their talents .

Scruffy. In need of thorough redecoration. Mould on walls, cracked plaster a d wallpaper peeling. Damaged broken furniture in plain sight.

Friendly local pub. Great staff and a good selection of bitters/ales - all 'competetively priced' (cheap!) compared to the bars in the the market place. Called in for the quiz (last Saturday of the month) - good set of questions, although it ran a bit too long due to variable gaps between questions amd a longish break in the middle. Live jazz sessions advertised so that's a good reason to call back regularly.

When I went there were some very unpleasant Brexiteers in one of the bars, but thanks to the bicameral nature of the place they could be avoided and we had a nice time.

I would rate this five stars if it wasn't for the landlord (Ray) going to the toilet, not washing his hands and straight back behind the bar serving.

I did two pub crawls on my two nights in Stockport, and both came to a halt in the Railway, as I couldn't drag myself away. I love a good beer, but I'm no expert, and I'd rather drink Carling in good company than fine ale on my tod. To be fair, the Railway does a good pint of Holts, which I happily got merry on--they don't close early. For me, this was a pub where I felt like an instant local. It happens. Both nights I found myself chatting away with the diverse and outrageous characters that accrue round the back bar. I'm an extrovert myself, but they made me feel like the quiet one. Spending two sessions in this pub, I noticed it really works actively at drawing people in. It runs darts teams, for which it puts out generous free spreads of food, including curry, pizza, sausages, you name it--non-players are invited to tuck in as well. Through the week there'll be other team events and bands on. (These days a clientele doesn't grow on its own, and there sure is competition up this street.) We hear a lot about the death of the local pub, but this one's alive and kicking. Much love to the Railway!

The second pub visited as part of the Leicester Camra trip. It was very quiet early Saturday afternoon. Does a lot of Jazz during the week which I understand is popular. Seemed big and soulless without a crowd. Beer selection not good enough to hold our attention.

I call here twice a month usually. A local used pub with a large comfy lounge, and a large entertainment room . There is also aback vault with pool table ..The main room has jazz, Rock bands and a Friday session for oldies to sing along with piano and backing on stage. With Holts bitter usually good and two sometimes three guest ales at decent prices this pub provides warmth all round, It deserves visiting. I remember years ago when it was near empty but the present landlord is doing well with it.J

Really nice pub with a good choice of beers

We visited during Stockport beer week as they were taking part. They had two real ales on at the time. Nice place and the barmaid was lovely as was the landlord ( I think he was that). We were the only people in probably better at a different time. The barmaid gave us a leaflet for the entertainment coming up.

A friendly pub but on my visit only had Holt's best bitter on hand pump as the other bitter had gone on the turn. That said the Holt's beer was well kept. I have been here once before but there is nothing special to say about it as there are three much better pubs within the local vicinity selling a much wider / varied selection of real ales / craft beers. I believe there is occasionally live bands that play here but not on my rare visits.

Pub, cheap beer no food, friendly what more would you want

We went for a quick drink on a Sunday evening, stayed 3 hours! I nearly drank them out of Southern Comfort! A jazz band played, which was great, and provided a lovely atmosphere. I'm hoping to make this a regular thing!

Great little three room pub on the main road to the north of Stockport. The main room to the right is the most popular with people as it hosts darts, live music and TV sports. The left hand room is quieter and perhaps more comfortable. At the rear is a pool room. Usually six very good cask ales to be had. Recommended.

First time today and going back there again tonight for music! A very warm and friendly atmosphere second to none!

A long-standing multi-roomed pub, the Railway serves an excellent range of beers in a cosy atmosphere. The noticeboard announces a range of talks & other community events. Upstairs has a separate bar for private functions. Lovely & old-fashioned.

Zero frills, but you can't beat a well pulled, dirt cheap pint of Holt's bitter.

Was having a good time with friends till I got euros in my change challenging this with the barman straight away he totally dismissed it..so rather than give me a pound back he has lost 3 customers..check your change peeps!!
