We dined here 7:12:24 the atmosphere is very nice and the food was Exquisite , the menu has a wide selection and we were not disappointed, the lamb rendang was my favourite the spices were enough and it was not to hot 🥵 of a dish . The decor was quaint and we will certainly go back .

Short walk from town to this delightful restaurant. Excellent welcome and fantastic service. Delicious food and they coped with all the changes we requested (vegetarian versions of some dishes and extra noodles) without any problems. Would certainly visit again.

Perhaps the classiest Chinese I have visited. Stylish interior, crisp linen, solid cutlery and top class service. The food tops it all, extremely innovative take on Chinese classics. Must try the shrimp and squid tempura. Unusual crunchy crispy skin pork. But every dish actually designed to shine even the desserts. Can recommend but book ahead.

We went to The Rabbit Hole for food as part of our work Christmas night out. The food was AMAZING! So tasty and good portion size - we came away feeling full but not overstuffed. The service was also fantastic with no hanging around for food or to have our drinks topped up. I particularly liked how they kept our water glasses topped up as well as the other drinks, which is such a rarity. We also were given time to enjoy our meal with not being rushed out. Will definitely go back!

Booked a dinner for my birthday with a friend on recommendation - I trusted her so took no time to look up the restaurant or menu before going. Not sure why I’ve not been here before? It’s such a quirky little place with the speakeasy entrance, low lighting and well thought out decor. Love the little touches, like the light up menu too. The staff are very attentive and the service was great. We had spring rolls and spare ribs to start. Followed by satay chicken, king prawn Kung pao stir fry, rice and broccoli & green beans - with a few glasses of wine! Everything was really tasty and good portion sizes. A real gem 💎

Loved the interior. We had a great table and were really pleased with the food and service. Prawn toast, duck pancakes and spring roll starters were all delicious as were the mains. 10% service charge was included which I hadn’t realised so paid an additional 10%. I realised the next day and contacted them and they sent me 10% back which I think is outstsnding service as I don’t think all restaurants would do this

Had the set menu (early bird special, 30£pp). Had 4 courses meals all fairly sized. £5supp for the miso cod (main) and the peking duck (starter). Excellent service. Beautiful decor. Highly recommended.

The rabbit hole is a quirky restaurant, plush decor, reminiscent of shanghai speakeasy/jazz club and we loved the vibe. The food was super tasty (although one of our party found the aubergine dish too spicy). Service was excellent and they also offered to replace the overly spicy dish. This is a special treat option...it isn't cheap but we all felt that it was value for money, given the quality and ambiance.

Absolutely amazing! Our entire experience was 10/10, from service, to food and drinks. We were really surprised at how delicious the meals were. It’s by far the best Asian food we have eaten. I’d highly recommend paying this gem a visit if you’re in the area. We were also very pleasantly surprised with the cost of the meals and drinks.

Amazing food. Had some of the best oysters with a beautiful spicy sauce to accompany them as a starter. The staff were lovely and always made sure our wine glasses were topped, they made us feel so welcome. Our main dishes were superb . Highly recommend

Slightly more expensive for Asian cuisine but excellent food and good cocktails - recommended.

If you want over priced and overly salty food then this is the place for you! Although the atmosphere was up there with a high class restaurant the food sadly did not reach expectation. Think of your generic 3 star hygiene Chinese takeaway but double the salt content. That’s what it was like eating. Nothing wow and certainly nothing that makes me wanna go back. It’s a shame because they have such a great venue but the food really did suck.

I have only looked from the outside looking in. Seems cosy and some how looks like a 🎨 painting by George de la tour The Dice Players with the light shining on the faces.

Very luxurious and, despite being quite expensive, worth every penny. Great atmosphere in a unique lay out unlike any other Chinese restaurant that I have visited. The food and service was first class despite a mix up with main meal dishes being served with starters. Highly recommended.

Absolutely marvelous food and service. And a note to the waiting staff. There were a few awkward tables around me that had additional needs and additional questions and not all of them we're put over politely or kindly. I was very impressed at how the staff dealt with the issues that were raised and the manner in which they dealt with them. Top marks for dealing with awkward customer!

This restaurant is deceptively large and had a wonderful atmosphere, perfect for a date night. The food was so incredibly good. The online reviews were correct. I had the best egg fried rice I've ever had, and I have lived in Asia for 10 years. It was so delicately flavoured and moreish. I also had the crispy shredded beef main which was amazing. The dumpling starter was delicious too. Great cocktails as well.

The food is exceptional, the drinks sublime, the waiting staff delightful and the atmosphere and finishing touches all at a perfect balance. Well worth the price tag. Any occasion to treat oneself.

I regret not having been able to try more dishes. I keep being stunned by the great quality of food in Durham. Dishes at the Rabbit don't seem greatly adjusted for the West, which is always welcome, but they also don't take shortcuts on ingredients. The atmosphere here was also particularly calming, music is smooth and not too loud to converse, temperature, decor, and general feel are warm and comfortable. Service attentive while not overbearing. Truly a great end to end experience!

Booked early as it very popular. Occasion was my daughters 14th Birthday. Daughter started with the Hot N Sour Duck soup and the other three of us shared a Dim Sum Tower, King Prawns and Prawn Toast. All of this was absolutely beautiful. The prawns came on a bed of lettuce and had a spicy kick, absolutely delicious. For the main course, we had a noodle dish which came with several different meats, a special fried rice, King Prawn in black bean and a satay chicken. My partners only ‘complaint’ was that she couldn’t finish the chicken as she was full. The service was excellent as always and although I didn’t inform the restaurant upon booking that it was for a birthday, when they found out they brought a dessert for my daughter and sang Happy Birthday. Really nice touch. When the bill arrived it was pointed out that there is already a 10% service charge added which was absolutely fine with me. Very good service for them to point this out.

I have visited rabbit hole couple times for dinner, food is absolutely unreal. my favourites are the miso cod, and the fried custard bun tastes amazing. all the staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly and attentive, making sure we have every thing we needed. i had a wonderful experience each time i dined here and i would def go back if i’m back in durham!!

I was given a voucher for this place when I left work and was very pleased I did. Service was first class and we were made to feel very welcome. Dishes were enjoyable and served quickly and it had a great atmosphere . Large glass of wine expensive at over £10 🤯 . My 3 meat chow mein and his fish in ginger and soy were both good choices and the seafood starter excellent

From start to finish the service was excellent the meal was one off the best quality meals I've had in a lot of years I could not fault anything about the whole experience the food was absolutely delicious well done to all the staff and chefs your doing a tremendous job and will be back very soon

We booked "Down The Rabbit Hole" for a special occasion (anniversary dinner) on the recommendation of friends. We had a lovely evening - it's such a lovely restaurant, quirky and stylish, but the food is also excellent. A very different menu and a great selection. Staff were welcoming, very efficient and that added to the success of our visit. We would definitely return and recommend this to friends. Thanks to everyone front of house and in the kitchen!

Don’t go there if you want Chinese food, not Chinese-style food. They charge a bowl of rice for 4 pounds?!

Great staters, great setting. Service excellent. The states were good. One dish was dry - breast chicken in the black bean which was a shame given the price. We did flag this but wasn’t met with much appreciation and , a little arrogance of the manager and suggested that the service charge be dropped, the service was good, and I thought that was voluntary anyway! Anyway. Maybe we were unlucky.

Easily the best Asian/Chinese style food in the city with fantastic staff and ambiance. The back lit menu's are a game changer for anyone with poor sight. Some of the best belly pork I have ever had, they do this dish phenomenally well, who ever cooks this knows their game.

Hidden gem in Durham. Superb food with excellent service.

Food was nice but not as outstanding as you would expect for the price you’re paying. The atmosphere when you first enter is great, until you are then seated and realise the arrangement of the seats is quite cramped and you almost feel like you’re in the way of the staff moving past. We did visit as a couple, and I imagine visiting with a bigger party and being seated in a less traffic busy area would have improved the experience. Service was very efficient, as you would expect when 3 to 4 people are walking past every few minutes. If you’re looking for a quiet meal I would suggest booking somewhere else.

The Rabbit Hole is consistently amazing. My favourite restaurant in Durham, and it's not even close. They were brilliant for my graduation dinner, as they always have been! Wonderful food and excellent service - I really love this place!

Superior Chinese restaurant with varied and interesting menu

We had an excellent lunch at the Rabbit Hole. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, we really enjoyed the Dim Sum tower as a starter to share. We will definitely be returning.

Classy restaurant serving fabulous Chinese food. The Won Ton soup is the best I've ever had. The ribs were cooked perfectly with a nice heat to them. My husband enjoyed the oysters and Duck Fried Rice. I was a touch under the weather but looking forward to returning to enjoy their cocktail menu. Highly recommended!

Well what a surprise the place is like a rabbit warrenwith little nooks and crannies on all 3 floors it's quite dark inside the food was very nice staff were excellent. I little pricey but I don't mind if it's good food and service. Well done rabbit hole will defo be back

Excellent space, lovely atmosphere. Waiters were more than willing to top us up with water. However despite pre-ordering a week before, the food took an hour and a half to be delivered. The ice in my drink had melted diluting my drink before the food came so I had to have my drink watery. Beware hidden fees! I ordered a chicken curry which was quite spenny for a student budget, only to be told it did not come with rice so I had to order some. The food was excellent and I would have happily waited an hour, but not 90 minutes. Excellent food and everyone in my group agreed. The portions were deceiving as they looked small but were very filling. Would come here again but only on special occasions.

Fabulous Asian restaurant, wonderful atmosphere, quirky furniture and toilets!! Service was excellent and food delicious. I would highly recommend the spicy vegetarian aubergine dish and vegetarian special fried rice. Although it's not cheap it's well worth a visit possibly for a special occasion.

Absolutely delicious food, have been a few times and never fails to impress. The egg fried rice is the best I have ever tasted. Staff are friendly and accommodating, and the decor is fantastic. Look forward to next visit.

Great experience. I emailed the Rabbit Hole directly for my booking and they were able to fit us in! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. You can sit at the bar and have a drink if your table isn’t ready. (You arrive early) we had a lovely selection of food and the waitress / waiters where great at topping up our wine from the cooler when our glasses where empty. Quality of food is great and prices are not bad at all. The decor and atmosphere is lovely and it’s a bit different compared to most places. Light up menus are great with it being dimly lit. One of my favourite places to come.

Such a lovely cosy place, very busy so do book. We had the dim sum stack which was stunning also the prawn toast, followed by sizzling beef, which wasn’t warm enough but they did correct this. The servers were lovely but i think perhaps they were over busy the night we were in. If we were in Durham again i would return, as it would be nice to try some of the other dishes.

What a beautiful restaurant, perfectly decorated, so much thought has gone in to the interior. Staff were lovely and provided impeccable service. The food was delicious, as were the drinks. We will most certainly be back soon.

As a gluten-free, non-meat eater (pescatarian) I review restaurants' menu frequently to see what they offer and The Rabbit Hole did not disappoint us. The food was incredible deliciously, albeit slightly on the saltier side and the service was discreet, kind and fast with the food. Just absolutely amazing flavours and despite that our seating was upstairs on the 'gangway', we felt we had privacy and quietness. The lit-up menus are a godsend when eyesight is deteriorating!

Visited the Rabbit Hole to celebrate my daughters 25th birthday. The whole place is just exquisite from the interior decor to the impeccable service provided by the most polite staff. The food is delicious and beautifully presented, the crockery and glassware is very tasteful and who doesn’t like a cool menu that lights up when you open it! This is one of the best restaurants that Durham city has to offer.

Been a few times, generally better than this. The online booking system didn't work..our mains came before our starter ! We waited an age for starter then when other around us and arrived later were served the same dish! Our mains seemed re heated n dry. Staff were friendly but the experience they provided was very poor I'm afraid.

Not knowing Durham too well for restaurants saw The Rabbit Hole via a Google search. What a gem of a restaurant this was. 5 of us in total and eager to impress the MD I chose to bring us all here. Looked after from the moment we went in. Staff very friendly, great surroundings and some just fabulous food. A good selection of starters and mains were chosen and needless to say there wasn't very much left at the end. Would highly recommend and I am already planning my next visit here with family.

Attended for my partner's 50th birthday. Started with dim sum and the prawn toasties. Both dishes were amazing and packed full of flavour. Mains were shredded beef and chicken satay. Again amazing. We had sides of egg fried rice Salt and pepper chips. Cocktails were lovely. The end of the meal the waiter came to the table singin happy birthday with cake for my partner. Very nice touch. This was my second visit to your restaurant and I will definitely be back. I have recommended it to all my friends and family. Thank you 👍

The restaurant is just off the main road, it looks small on the outside but once you get inside it is beautiful, very friendly staff, the ambience is dark and romantic, the light up menus are brilliant, and the food it amazing especially the short beef ribs they just melt in your mouth

Me and my husband were very excited to try this restaurant as we’re both massive foodies and we were visiting Durham and this kept cropping up as a restaurant you must try when in Durham! When we got there we were taken aback by the beautiful decor. We ordered 2 starters and 2 main courses as well as 2 sides. I wasn’t happy with the ‘crispy chilli shredded beef’ as it tasted overcooked and too chewy. I let me waitress know and she informed the manager who notified me that that’s how the dish comes and I can get it recooked but I can’t get it replaced with the ‘beef in black bean sauce’. For the price you pay for the food here I thought that was ridiculous. What happened to the customer coming first. I was deeply dissatisfied with the food but the manager just didn’t seem to care and just kept saying ‘that’s how it comes’. To conclude I was sincerely dissatisfied by the service and it’s a shame I would have expected more from a restaurant of this calibre. On a side note the food isn’t amazing or worth the price point.

Visited this gorgeous restaurant after being recommended on our visit to durham. It certainly didnt disappoint, excellent food, fabulous friendly service, highly recommended.

This place is beautiful inside the food and service was exceptional went with a group of friends and we all loved it, plan to visit again.

Even though it was very early in the evening, there were several people eating already and, during our time there, it got busier as the evening progressed. We had soup and prawn toasts for starters - and have never tasted prawn toasts like it! Not...
