This is a great pub in Hoxton, just a short walk from Old Street or Hoxton Square. It has a relaxed vibe, is not noisy and seems to attract a cool crowd of 30 somethings or so. I am older than that but felt quite comfortable. The staff are fast, attentive and friendly. A great place for a drink and a chat. Plenty of eating options in the vicinity.

Saturday 9pm, moderately crowded inside, a dozen people outside on picnic tables. Overall a good vibe with a mix of 20/30-somethings and a few older folks. Smallish pub, “homey” decor. Only thing I didn’t like was the beer selection. Fair…a couple of lagers, one or two pale ales, Guinness. Decent but nothing to take note of. Others mentioned a dodgy feel….i didn’t get that sense at all. Add a few rotating taps and this is a “5” in a no-frills, laid back way.

Despite being in a very random location, this pub is a hidden gem. With exceptional drinks prices and games to play, it's great for indoor or outdoor drinks. Just note that after dark this pub is in a slightly sketchy area.

This pub is not exactly the place you would go with a partner or friends. It is very much suitable to find a companion for the night, in fact, it should have been called "The Pull". Drinks are very expensive in particular spirits. There is not a big selection of beers either and they sometimes are served warm. I have been there several times with friends until the last time a friend of mine was asked if she wanted to visit the upstairs private area and returned after a while. The atmosphere did not feel right so we decided to go somewhere else.

Felt absolutely ripped off, they charged us £13.00 for a double gin plus mixer!!!! Shame as a local pub but obviously thought they could rip of some tourists 😡

We had a venue pull out the week of our Hen Do and The Prince Arthur was very accomodating in helping us out extremely last minute! The Manager and Staff were super nice, and made a very stressful situation feel managed and under control. The private room we hired was a perfect space for our Hen activity, and nice an airy/cool on a hot London day. The pub itself has a great vibe, more like your classic British pub which is refreshing change compared to the Shoreditch bars/clubs.

Actually, even more it survives in Shoreditch. Literally, i was staying on Old Street and the name of the pub and it being slightly off the beaten track appealed to me. I had to go that way anyway. The somewhat frosted glass made it difficult to peer in - but went for it. And what a find. It was like being back in our Somerset village pub (but clearly with a Shoreditch-twist). Just looked so authentic. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink and ended up chatting to a 'local'. It really was a pleasant hour spent. I was informed that on a Thursday and Friday it can get a bit packed in there. But this was a calm Monday evening - and an enjoyable one at that. I will be back.

1. It's an actual pub. We're talking traditional wooden aesthetic, beautiful facade, ton of ales, loads of regulars. It hasn't been sanitised by the gentrification of the area, nor is it a dive. 2. It's a hidden gem in a prime location. 2min from Old St tube BUT on a quiet back street with no traffic. Even on a Saturday you can have a conversation and find a place to sit. 3. Easy to contact for bookings and queries. Pubs are usually s**t at email and phone - these guys are on it when you want to make a booking and will try to help you out if you're in a bind for space. 4. Amazing upstairs you can book with a balcony for £50 fee... The space is also deceptively accomodating in number. I've squeezed +40 ppl in with the balcony. 5. The pub team. Kate is a brilliant manager (always let's the bar know when there's a big booking and tries to accommodate our needs) and the barstaff bother to get know your name and make sure you're having a good time. Recently booked a big event with a few neurodivergent people in it and the staff were very understanding of their needs and that what may look like intoxication is actually something else! Not every pub would believe you! Honestly, part of me doesn't want to write this review for fear word gets around. But it's only fair. This pub and the team are f*****g awesome. Can't keep it to myself.

Sat at bar. Told to move. So don't put stools at the bar if you don't want people sitting on them. Beer ok, pork scratchings stale. Starved for authentic London fare, we enjoyed the wonderful vibe and were offered samples of beer on tap. The food was good but it was the same menu at our last stop. Chain? I guess one corporation owns several pubs in the area.

We are 5 guys who have a regular meet up in the City, but for the 2nd time we decided to have a drink here due to pubs directly in the City being chokka because the 'xmas drinkers' are out in force, although the pub was very busy , we were served immediately by friendly staff, pub has great atmosphere and will be drinking more regularly here in new Year, we didn't eat, so cannot comment on food, but great , friendly little pub with great atmosphere, thank you

We went to this pub on our last visit to London, with each drink we were given nibbles, nuts, cheese biscuits, and were offered a picked egg. Not this time though, nice pub though, not spoilt by chainification, keeps its traditional charm. We were going to pop in last night on our last day, but was closed...

nicely decorated, not made too themed, good range of drinks and not too pricey, complementary nibbles brought to the table although we declined the pickled eggs :) friendly staff, plenty of seating and when it isnt raining outside seating would be good as not on a busy road.

Had an awful experience some Sundays ago, waiter Ben wasn't V accommodating with my pram and when the table next to me stood up for me he told them to mind their own business and shutup? Bit of a lunatic. Also messaged management about it and got no response...the cheek

Really nice pub, it was empty when we arrived but I think that's more to do with a football match ending in the area

The Rochester Castle 🚇 Rectory Road 🍺 £2.75 Carlsberg ❤️ It’s not very often I review a Wetherspoons pub due to the impact they can have on local independent boozers. However, when I see a pub, my inquisitive nature always urges me to have a nose about and see what is going on inside and this one didn’t disappoint. . So what’s this pub all about? Well, in a word, community. This is a real locals pub with regulars that have drunk in here for years. Stoke Newington has a dwindling Irish community but they are well represented here through the different generations. There were a few old boys sat around one table all holding news papers checking out the form and deciding which horse was going to cover an afternoons drinking. There was also another table who were having the craic and seemingly winding up one fella who told his friends to “Feck off” and called one fella a “hooers melt” which can go either way depending on your friendship, luckily the peace was maintained. In another part of the pub there was a big group perched around a poser table trying to figure out why Arsenal are so shite at the moment. There was a great sense of community spirit here. . I’m second generation Irish who was brought up in pubs across London and Ireland, so this place really resonated with me and brought back some great memories of growing up. The regulars drink in here predominantly because they have always drunk in here with their friends and family regardless of what the name is above the door. There other reason for drinking here is that they can’t afford to drink anywhere else as most local pubs charge north of five quid for a pint. . If you want to experience a slice of London Irish life then get yourself to The Rochester, Sláinte. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 02/08/20

My favourite fish and chip shop! Delicious cod and chips. Wonderfully crispy batter and good quality chips with crispy bits. I love this place both for eating in and takeaway and I happily travel more than half an hour to go there rather than closer places. Much less expensive than my trendy local fish and chip shop. I couldn’t reccomend more!
