Haven't been in this pub for a while but popped in with a friend couple of weeks ago for a drink and thought the food smelt good. So returned last night with partner and oh my oh my, it was sublime. We had some dhal and paneer dishes with pilau rice and everything was cooked to perfection, spicy but not overly hot which is good for me as I don't like too much chilli and heat. Great range of beers and some lovely staff as well. Well worth a visit.

First time in, for Sunday roast. Excellent across the board. Old standards plus a tandoori chicken (with all the traditional fixings!) that was really remarkable. Great beer selection, kind and efficient service, etc. Can't recommend highly enough.

We visited the Jolly Butchers on a Sunday afternoon for a quick drink. This isn’t a review of the food, though the roast did look good. I hadn’t been to this pub in about 10 years, and like the area, it has changed quite a bit - certainly more polished. The beer selection is large, but the barman was pretty reluctant to let us try anything. In fact, he wasn’t particularly welcoming and didn’t say much at all - even thanks when we paid. I always find it odd when there's such a wide selection of beers but little willingness to offer samples. Another server asked if we had booked a table, but we explained we just wanted a drink and asked if we could sit in the area clearly designated for drinks only, which seemed to confuse them. It feels like the pub has gradually morphed into more of a restaurant, perhaps due to lingering effects of COVID, with an emphasis on table service (and service charge). That said, the drinks were good, and the overall atmosphere was chilled. It's the kind of place you could visit alone, with a group, or with family. It’s nice, but when it comes to the overall pub experience (and it being welcoming), especially in an area with so many options, there are better places for just going for a few drinks.

The tandoori chicken of the Sunday roast menu was phenomenal. So much so it was gone before I thought to take a pic. I was practically licking the plate clean. And I don't usually go for chicken because it can be a bit bland but wow did they knock it out the park. Service was super friendly too. Even gave us some stuffing with the tandoori chicken which was very much appreciated.

Lovely place. We go for Sunday lunch around once a month and we rarely have to eat again before Monday morning. The servings are huge! This time we managed to leave without booking a holiday for 4 in a bit of a drunken haze. Off to Reims in France next weekend. The selection of beers is fab as well. Very dog friendly too which I love.

I've been here on a few occasions, both just for drinks and to eat as well. The tap selection they have is great, with some regulars and a few rotating ones. There's always something interesting to drink. The food is delicious. I'm surprised that more pubs aren't doing Indian food. I've had the duck kathi roll a couple of times, which is probably my favorite. We ordered the ribs last time, which were well seasoned and fall off the bone. Service is always very friendly, the prices reasonable, and just a nice and relaxed vibe. If I lived closer this would be my local.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted with such a lush smell - a smokey, seasoned tandoori/ BBQ type smell. It made us even more excited for our Sunday roast. I was torn between regular half chicken, the pork loin or the tandoori chicken roast. In the end, after a chat with our waiter, I went for the tandoori chicken roast. He said it was the most popular choice, also I thought I might as well - it’s not the usual thing to have with a Sunday roast, might as well make the most of it. I did not regret it. Everything was great. Very tasty. It arrived quickly. The portion size was generous. We defo enjoyed our meal! My highlights were the chicken, the cauliflower cheese and the rich gravy. Even our Aperol spritzes were well made. The pub was spacious, high ceilings, gorgeous windows. A really nice space on the high street. The only thing that could’ve made it better was if the front door wasn’t left open, the cold breeze meant we ate with our jackets on. We’ll defo go back again, but in the summer!

I would to give this 4/5 stars as the food was amazing but my partner and I had an awful customer service experience with a young staff member at the bar. I will start by saying that every other member of staff in there was actually super nice. But unfortunately you are only as strong as your weakest link. We’ve all been there right, young and working a bar job or in retail. I always make a point of being super nice and patient with people in service or retail as I did it for a long time. I know it can be. But being this rude to someone is not called for, I don’t take it lightly. I ordered 1 of every dish on the menu (it was our work social) and there were more of us in our group than dishes on the menu (it turned out to be a great amount of food — which tasted great, the chefs nailed it). After seeing other people eating and the size of their dishes this seemed like a very appropriate thing to do. He made it seem like what I’d asked for was the most ridiculous thing he’d heard — The staff member quick blinked in shock and responded in such an incredibly rude manner. I also ordered probably too much bread and I asked it that was too much, he made some quick remark that if I’d read the menu properly that some dishes come with bread. The way he did it was so rude. After a super awkward and slightly tense exchange we reduced it, I was honestly gob smacked. That’s your job! To help customers with their orders and questions! Why be so rude! I’ve never eaten here before, I don’t know how big your portions are, that why I asked. I then paid, and he almost snatched the card machine from my hand. As I said, the other staff were great. The food was great. But if this guy worked for me and it was negatively impacting customers then it would be a pretty clear choice of what to do about it. Unfortunately never going to go here again.

The beer isn't what it was, and there's a lot of pressure to order a meal, which didn't turn out to be much good. Get a sense management's changed, kinda slapdash now, as if it's run by teenagers. Not a pub, it's a restaurant with beer on tap. Waited at the bar for ages, was told they'd be with me in a minute (after 5), and then told it's table service only. Hard surfaces, and an open plan kitchen in the corner, make it extremely noisy and difficult to have conversations, resulting in everyone talking loudly which compounds the problem. Food was alright and came in a reasonable amount of time. Let down by waiters that couldn't hear / remember orders correctly, and making loads of little mistakes.

Have been in here before and has been ok but went in with my partner this afternoon and was about to sit at a seemingly unreserved table. A young man literally ran over and asked if we had booked rather brusquely. We said no but explained we were only having one quick drink (there were several empty tables without any reserved signs) but this did not elicit any response and he just kept his head down looking at his list without communicating. I then pointed to an empty table and asked if we could sit there. "No" was the terse response. He carried on looking at list - no attempt at 'sorry but we are really busy etc etc" or anything approaching decent customer service. Eventually tiring of seeing the top of his head looking at his list we just left. Really poor service. If you have bookings and are full then fine, but just be polite about it!

My mate and I were down from Birmingham for one night only. The pub was deservedly busy at 5pm on Saturday 04.10.23, but we'd booked a table. Both of us had the chicken curry & naan at £11.50. It was VERY tasty without too much heat. The sauce was superb and we were glad spoons were provided. We both had a few pints of some crackin' real ales. This was a great place for food and ale before going over the road to the Three Crowns for a gig at The Waiting Room below. MALKA was totally brillinat btw. Note for management: 'reserved' signs on tables could do with being removed asap after people leave. I saw a few people pop in and leave after thinking there was nowhere to sit.

Booked for a birthday meal on a Sunday at 6.30. Can’t comment on the food as the veg roast and chicken roast option had sold out and couldn’t order from the Indian food menu too so we decided to leave. Suggestion to make it up to anyone who wanted the veg roast option was to ‘give them some more potatoes and veg instead’ was patronising along with the suggestion of booking at an earlier time next time. No one came to take our order until we reminded them, not bothered about our custom so we left and went to celebrate at a restaurant that valued our custom. Not so jolly.

There’s nothing nicer than a reliable local. On nights with little to do, I trek the 20 seconds to the Jolly Butchers at a time that is just 30 mins before last call and plop myself on the bench facing towards Stoke Newington High St and do any of the following while sinking the amber: tuck into my book in silence, or practise my Finnish on Duolingo feverishly like my life depends on it, or have a chinwag with the bartenders (they’re incredible, polite and chatty!) and the regulars, or just watch the one-way two-lane arterial that is the hustle and bustle of Stoke Newington. There’s always great energy here, which part of me believes is because they’ve done away with the fandango of quotidian doo-dahs in what can be a publican’s vain effort for more footfall e.g. tellies for the sport, live music to compete over, themed nights like a quiz night. (Look no further than their menu which is filled to satisfy your curry night!) Don’t get me wrong, there is space for pubs that strive for the above, but please do get me right that this beer review you’re reading should just be read as white noise, where you twiddle the knobs to hear a clear message while marooned on the street looking for a lash or nightcap: if you want a boozer that’s a boozer, then — HEY — look no further, here’s your saviour! I hear the Sunday roast is worth doffing your cap at for.

Really poor Sunday Roast and especially avoid if Vegan. Firstly it arrived with a Yorkshire pudding on top, which isn't vegan and the nut roast was really soft and mushy and I bit into it and parts of it were cold in the middle! I asked for a replacement and they did this without any fuss, which was good, but yet again it arrived with a Yorkshire pudding on the top. It was definitely more cooked but the whole meal felt reheated and there was no taste in any of the vegetables or gravy. When you are charging £12+ for a Sunday Roast, you really cannot serve food like this. Glancing over at my friends meals as well, they looked just as unpalatable.

The guy that seated me was not so 'jolly'. My friend and i ordered the tandoori chicken Sunday roast with massala roast potatoes. Both chicken and roasters hardly tasted any different or spicier than regular ones. My chicken was mainly bone, fat and gristle. Whereas my friend clearly had my share as it took him ages to eat all the chicken meat. Treacle sponge pudding and custard for dessert. Mediocre as well. Had regular 80p chunky kitkats from the supermarket that were larger and more filling. Didn't deserve the hype it's had on social media.

Love this chippy and it’s perfect if you suffer from celiacs disease, you can have delicious grilled or fried gluten free fish in batter and chips, without any worries of contamination 🥰. The grilled skate and chips is my favourite, cooked to perfection and big portions. My husband has tried most things and found them all really tasty and apparently the deserts are yummy too, although not always GF. Our friend had the Apple and cinnamon crumble today, with ice cream and said it was the best ever. Christmas is coming and yet Wetherspoon still doesn't want to invest in staff, it's impossible to order at the bar... there isn't enough staff, I ordered from the table and it took more than 45 minutes, unbelievable, despite speaking to the waiter... and to top it off, in the soup I ordered, there was a piece of plastic, 🤮 I can't imagine what else I ate, what it had... this Wetherspoon is terrible, I still don't understand it, because some Wetherspoons are clean and have normal delivery times... not this one. 😠

The food in general was of a standard for a gastro pub but the attention to detail is where things went slightly off. The beef was of exceptional standard but was served on a pin wheel sized plate along with the potatoes that had only seen the inside of rational for a few mins for reheat. The Yorkshire was tasty and had been cooked in a good bit of dripping , for me the worst part of the meal was the gravy that had either been water down due to amount of covers or taken from the puddle outside of the front door. It was cold and lacked and any form of flavour and was cascaded on the plate similar to the water from when you clean dirty boots. Overall nice environment with an emphasis that the attention to detail could be slightly better.
