Did not stay in the hotel. But visited the Potting shed Bistro in the grounds. Highly recommend the quaint little potting shed bistro in the grounds of the Roman Camp Hotel. Unique ambience, lovely food and great staff. In my view the best place to dine out in Callander.

I ordered the pancakes which where horrible. They were like rubber in texture and carboard in taste. They where just microwaved. The bacon dry, suggesting it was cooked well in advance and reheated. ontop of this everything arrived less than luke warm. coffee was weak and the flat white my husband ordered was exactly the same as the cappichino I ordered.

Great bacon roll for breakfast with an equally great cappuccino. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back. Probably for lunch after a visit to the Tapestry Museum.

My husband and I stopped in yesterday for a late lunch snack, our first visit. Both ordered scrambled eggs on toast, one with bacon the other smoked salmon. There was no smoked salmon so I went with the bacon. The waitress immediately put the eggs into a plastic jug and into the microwave. She then served a table with coffees and took some payments. The pre-cooked bacon was put into a closed grill machine then the bread was put into the toaster, all the while the eggs were still cooking in the microwave?? The toast was buttered, only in the middle of the slice, the eggs were scraped out of the jug, after being broken up with a fork, onto the toast where the waitress tried to break it up further with her fingers. The bacon was added and served to us. We could not get a fork into the bacon it was so hard, this took crispy bacon to a new level!! It is the first time I have ever had to cut through scrambled eggs. The whole meal was appalling and not fit to be served. NEVER AGAIN.

We stopped in when visiting the area for the day and had a late lunch. We ordered two baked potatoes, one with cheese and beans and one with chilli. Unfortunately both potatoes were very dry and had obviously been pre-cooker and refrigerated for a significant period. Everything was poorly reheated and lukewarm at best. The salad leaves were also wilting and the dressing had an unpleasant flavour. Baked potatoes are pretty difficult to get wrong and overall this was just a really sad lunch. Save your cash and go elsewhere.

I’m fussy about coffee. Don’t like lots of froth so we were delighted with our perfectly made white coffee and beautiful scone. Young lady who served us was friendly, informative and polite ! Nice clean loo! Ten out of ten!!

Very disappointed, needs some reorganisation in the cafe. Pasta in salad not cooked correctly, run out of goats cheese tart. No mineral water Girls were pleasant enough. Tables require sanding down as they were sticky (perfect breeding environment during a pandemic. Toilets were excellent. Some effort required to bring it up to an acceptable standard

Our first choice of cafe was busy when we were in need of sustenance so we walked on a bit and came to The Potting Shed which is a shop selling all manner of things downstairs with a cafe upstairs. We were welcomed both by the young lady downstairs and by the two upstairs. The cafe is beautifully decorated and sports a grand piano, no less. My partner and I enjoyed a sandwich each. His was cheese & onion and mine was a tuna melt, both served on homemade foccacia which came with a lovely freshly made (with freshly cut tomato, onion & cucumber) side salad. For afters he had a brownie & an Americano with milk on the side whilst I had a slice of carrot cake & a pot of one of the most flavourful Earl Grey tea's I have ever tasted. Everything was beautifully presented and extremely tasty. We were most impressed with the standard of hygiene. The young lady who made our sandwiches / salads wore her face mask and a pair of disposable food grade gloves during the process. Not to appear crude but I must mention the well appointed WC facilities which are halfway up the stairs. There are four small rooms, two for the male of the species and two for the female. Each room was beautifully clean and tastefully decorated. Please do not take this as a threat but as a promise....we will definitely be back!!!

Just bought a fish supper. Got it home two mins later and it’s already cold and the fish is so dry. Obviously been cooked ages ago. WAS starving - not anymore. You need to cook food fresh, folks. Sad.

Mackays was absolutely the best fish and chips I had tasted in years. The portions were very generous, and the menu was surprisingly wide-ranging too.
