The Posh Fish and Chip Company in Cardiff

As a regular customer to the posh chip shop llandaff and my liking for their beautiful pure white cod bites which usually are second to none I was bitterly disappointed with my supper tonight , no more beautiful white cod wrapped in a crisp batter but an inferior fish I’m not even certain that it is cod was dark a batter that was soggy but still and the same price ! Something I’ve looked forward to all day was a disappointment and I couldn't eat it, So come on Posh chip shop don’t let you’re good reputation down bring back the tasty pure white cod bites

There was a lot of food for the price and my partner liked his cod, but the vegan fish was incredibly strange. I've had banana blossom and liked it before, so I think something was off. I agree with another poster that I experienced what I thought were meant to be fake bones. There were also very hard parts, I couldn't bite or pull the "fish" apart. There were black and grey streaks throughout the blossom - maybe that is normal but given how hard the texture was I thought this was past its prime. Edited review the next day: fairly certain this gave me food poisoning. Reducing to 1 star. I have since read the coloring is normal, but the projectile vomit is not.

Fantastic service. Love using this place for a chippy tea. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Not a fan of cod so I always order haddock, usually it is cooked to order but the wait isn't long at all. Highly recommend trying this place out.

Very disappointed with chips size and quality.

The £6 burger was the most disappointing thing I've ordered in a long time, absolutely not worth the money, and not very nice at all - stick to fish and chips from this place that they do well. They also have a very annoying habit of forgetting to put your sauce in the order - today gravy was missing (£3.50 is daylight robbery for that as well, even if they did actually send it).

Chicken Curry £5.75 give it a miss. Didn’t give a one rating because the fish and chips are good. Sort it out guys you’re better than this.

Decided to give this fish shop another go after experiencing dissatisfaction with their offerings in the past. Tonight I bought a Clark’s pie and large chips at a cost of £8.25. Abominable ! It comes to something when the paper that the food was wrapped in, quite possibly tasted better than the actual food. The ‘Posh’ , refers to the price, not the food.

Basic burger which tasted fine, minimal salad. Chips were bland and soggy.

I had a large fish, it was soggy as if it been in a bag, I drive to the shop and live two mins away but it was raining that why I drove in the past it was all ways good but for 14.00 fish chips curry sauce, it was a terrible experience, see trip advisor, I can’t believe that they have gone down hill and still get away with charging such high price not good

Food was stone cold, limp and greasy. I contacted the restaurant to ask why the delivery was late I was told hopefully it will be there in 30 minutes. No updates provided throughout. Very disappointed

I've ordered from these 3 times. Every time the chips are beautiful! Every chippy I've tried in the last 2 years have been awful but this place delivers every time. Just Eat said it would take an hour to deliver but only took half an hour. Tried the burger meal, which comes with chips and sauce (I had curry) and it was really nice! This has definitely become my regular choice

I can’t find the fish chunk burger online I would be interested in that but I have to search really hard to find it in the menu online please make the fish chunk burgers easily accessible

Chips were not fresh cold on delivery curry sauce is the worst had no flavour more like a chutney sauce. Batter sausage ok but batter to hard. I won't order from here again.

Service was decent. Food arrived quickly and hot. I feel £2.50 delivery is a tad expensive as we live less than half a mile away. On top of that there is a 70p processing fee, so £3.20 spent before and food. Too pricey in my opinion. Portion size was good. Chips were nice but I feel they could have been cooked for a little longer. The burger I ordered came smothered in Ketchup top bun and bottom bun, it exploded all over the place on my first bite, and ended up scraping it all off. No mention of sauce when ordering. That would be best left to the customer in my opinion. Overall, half decent.

The Haddock was nice. No complaints. The sausage was average. The chips were hard and dry, more or less inedible. The chicken tenders were also very dry, seemingly reheated or left out or under heat for a long period. With such a small menu/choice, I would have expected much better. Delivery was also 30 minutes before its earliest delivery time, with the app still saying my order hadn’t even started to be prepared. Disappointing.

Unfortunately our order was very disappointing today, the shop claims they provide high quality food. All our items were poor, the batter on the fish bites was too thick,and somewhat soggy. The chips had no taste, they looked anemic, poor quality potatoes I would say. The fish itself was average, the curry sauce was also below average. If you claim to sell high quality food, you've got a long way to go.

absolutely beautiful! the fight was so thick and the batter was puffy and crispy. haven't had a good chippy in months but I will be ordering here again! also, love your little motor!

Ordered the vegan vish with chips whilst at Greenman festival. £14 for a tiny portion - and the battered banana blossom (vegan vish) was so oily it was inedible. Considering what other stalls sold for £14 at the festival, it was a total rip off. Not sure what the prices are like in the actual shop - but would absolutely not visit based on this experience.

We had a great time watching the Olympics on TV and eating fish and chips. Both the haddock and cod were tasty, and the chicken curry sauce was delicious. The service was friendly and helpful.

One word! Horrible! The vegan fish had these fake little bones in it that made it impossible to eat, I nearly chocked on one. The fish was also slimy and grey, totally inedible. The vegan sausage in batter is tiny for £3.50 and the chips were so basic and badly cooked! After providing evidence Deliveroo agreed it was totally unacceptable and have cancelled my payment to them! Can’t believe this is being served as food

Had posh box with cod dips and mushy peas and 2 fish cakes. Rating is collectively on food- (that's chip taste, oil residue, fish taste, batter mix, pea taste and temp, plus more) customer service, cleanliness of, shop, pricing, atmosphere...... 10/10!!! Will 100% be back! Impressed with their electric cars also!

order arrived 30 minutes after the latest estimated time. I called the "restaurant" 4 times for an update but nobody replied. I also used the App for an update and again did not receive any reply. The food was cold and batter soggy when it eventually arrived.

£4.25 for a large ( not large at all! ) bag of chips. Not your usual chippy chips taste either. No atmosphere at all in there. Shame really. Well over priced though imo and portion size for a large was far too small.

Didn’t answer the phone when I tried to find out what was going on with my Deliveroo order. Then the food quality has definitely gone down since I ate there last. Definitely won’t be ordering again.

First time customer and last time customer. I feel mugged off, defrauded even. Just spend £30+ on food at this place for us and the kids. Fish - strong fish smell and soggy batter. Chips, the smell was bad even through the bag on the way home, like they’ve been cooked in burnt oil. Mushy peas - I smelt them, didn’t dare try them, let’s just say mushy peas shouldn’t smell like what comes out of you. I wasn’t brave enough to go near the curry sauce. The worst fish and chips I’ve experienced. I didn’t dare eat it. Wife and kids barely touched theirs. I’m angry that I travelled across town to be served this excuse for edible food. I suggest you put more focus in to your food instead of trying to represent something you couldn’t be further away from. Wish I went to domino’s next door.

Awfull overpriced food, there is nothing posh about the shop apart from the prices. The food is mediocre and the portions are tiny. I will never visit again!

Overall the food was ok. The fish inside the batter was really tasty and the chips were good. It arrived hot. Good portion sizes. However, the batter was not crisp. It was soggy at best, under or not cooked at worst. And we received a curry sauce rather of the mushy peas that were ordered

Overpriced for overpriced sake, asked for pie chips and curry sauce tonight, after repeating it 3 times when I got home the chips had no s and v and they gave me gravy instead of curry all for just under a tenner.... Mmm soz but not for me 🙈

All the wrong food delivered and got told it’s a Just Eat problem

Ordered in advance, went to collect the order and it wasn’t ready due to a system error so had to wait 20 mins for the order to be made. Got home and curry sauce was missing and vegan fish was tasteless in comparison to what we have had at other takeaways. Rang to complain and the person I spoke to was extremely dismissive and defensive.

I like fish & chips as an occasional treat. I was in Cardiff visiting my daughter who was working late. She recommended this shop, although she said it had been taken over since she last went. I chose the haddock & chips. For the first time ever, I binned the fish. The batter was thin, and there was a very fishy taste to it. The fish was also thin, no large lovely white flakes either. A real disappointment & the chips weren’t great either. Certainly not worth another try.

Ordered garden peas and tartare sauce in the additional information parachute was no option to select in order. We received mushy peas and no sauce. Quality has gone down recently.

Just (18:30) spent £11.25 on fish and chips Mainly batter the fish was not good, and the chips tasted like they were cooked some time ago. This place is very hit and miss, far more misses than hits of late.

Made a order for three adults and two children one if the child's meal was a RAW burger 🤬 absolutely disgusting but as I know some beef burgers will come with a bit of red in the middle but definitely not as raw as this came and disappointed my child and made her feel sick as she took a bite as u could still see the shape of mince meat witch looked like it was only cooked for 20 seconds if that (no joke) also contacted the restaurant and was basically laughed at over the phone when I braught it up and was told I know nothing about how to cook food and was spoken to very rudely and wasn't even offered an apology.never again will I order from such a disgusting fish n chips shop again.p.s not the first time I've had problems here either.(Hire a chef)

Used to live up to its name, now worse than a back alley chippy. They certainly no longer deserve the awards they received when they first opened. All the food was swimming with grease, the mushy peas were inedible slop and they even refused to more lightly batter one of the fish - something they and every other chippy I've ever been to have always been happy to do (gives me a bad tummy). Should have turned around and got a Dominos from next door, but the family really wanted fish and chips. They probably still get custom based on their prior reputation, but seriously, this place is worse now than your worst local chippy and should be avoided.

Food is vile. £3.50 for a vegan sausage that's the same size as my thumb! Chips were rock hard, and the bap was stale! All went in the bin. Spent £16 for absolutely nothing and when i tried to call them to discuss, they're closed!

Missing any sauce and the fish came in chunks not a fillet.

My delivery instructions were inside the brown packaging so the poor driver had nothing to guide him. Hence he went to St Fagans Rise instead of my address.

Food was delicious, fast and way above the average chippy. Service was 10 out of 10 and will most definitely be returning!

Had an amazing experience here at the Posh Fish Chip Company this evening. We ordered a posh box meal, which gives the choice of fish/sausage chips and a curry sauce, mushy peas or gravy! The quality of the food here is immaculate would highly recommend!

NEVER AGAIN DO NOT RECOMMEND Spent over £16.00 on 2 regular portions of chips, 2 x pots of curry sauce 1 x sausage in batter and 1 x fishcake. Only took a couple of minutes to drive home but the food had hardly any warmth. The chips were dry and stale. Phoned up to complain and to advise on the food they were serving was cold. The young female who answered the phone call apologised but found my phone call rather funny and was giggling whilst apologising. I asked to speak to the manager but was informed not available. The phone call was left live with no response. The first time and last time we will use this chip shop. Food binned. Total waste of money.

i ordered a vegan fish & chips and omg it was so good! i find vegan 'fish' can be a bit hit or miss but this was bang on. i have missed a good chippy tea since becoming vegan and this was exactly what i needed. will 100% order again

Used to go to your Penarth branch for the Hot Chicken Curry and was delish! Proper chicken off the bone. Decided to try your Llantrisant Rd Branch, And although not advertised as ''chicken off the bone'' I was underwhelmed at the chicken which I can only assume to be frozen ''chunks'' - Dry and tasteless! Although the sauce is still lovely, the chicken really lets it down. Visited your Penarth branch again recently and sadly found out they no longer use fresh chicken either. Also, before where as I had to wait for my curry to be served up rather ''fresh'' now I just have to wait for them to microwave it. Not the best. Come on guys and gals, sort it out and it might just be worth the price and I would be paying a lot more visits I'm sure.

I really don't know what has happened to this fishshop, the food we had from there on the 26th was awful. 1 cod box meal, chips were cold, hard and a lot of the chips were black, mushy peas tasted sour and were inedible, really bad taste. I guess the one saving grace was the fish, it was nice. Other meal was pie and chips, same chips as box meal cold, hard and lots of black chips, not much to say about the pie, a bit squashed but OK. Quality of the food preparation and service has definitely gone down hill. For fish and chips this would be our go to place, I can't see me using this chipshop again.

Beautiful quality and great delivery

Failed to deliver a £29 order to my elderly parents in Llandaff (driver did not show for work apparently). This was a month ago and, after many phone calls and emails, nobody has had the courtesy to address this let alone refund what is due. Disgraceful. In response, no, no money has been received and I do not know what you mean by, 'put on hold'. Now that I have your ear, perhaps you may ensure my money is promptly returned. 13th Feb. Contacted by company and offered free replacement meal which my parents thoroughly enjoyed. In addition, I have today received a refund on the order. They went the extra mile to resolve this is issue and it is much appreciated.

Food is awesome as usual and delivery exceptional... I do have 1 issue how does a double beef burger and chips with sauce £10 go to a single burger and chips with sauce at the price of £11 i understand prices rise but taking away 1 burger and still increasing it £11 is abit excessive. I was hoping it was a typo on site alas it wasn't. i order regularly from here but will be refraining on ordering the burger box in future.

Really so disappointed to share that Posh Fish and Chips claims of being gluten free and coeliac safe is just not true. I phoned to confirm and placed an order online this evening. Everything seemed great upon pick up, our gluten free order was bagged separately and labelled gluten free. But now my daughter is feeling absolutely awful. It’s not fair to make these claims if you cannot guarantee this. The website claims all staff are coeliac trained and everything is prepared separately. Something went wrong here and I wouldn’t want others to go here believing it’s safe when it is definitely not.

The overall food quality was good, however it had to be the smallest “large” portion chips I have ever seen in my life, which considering the price is disappointing. The curry sauce was missing from the order altogether, however I didn’t bother telephoning to complain as last time the staff were rude and unhelpful. There are far cheaper chippies in the local area so will be trying somewhere else next time.

2 fish and chips terrible. Batter was all soggy fish was terrible as well. Had curry sauce and it was like water. Overpriced for poor quality food. Never again

Unfortunately the chips weren’t too good tonight. Most of them were green and like cardboard in both large portions that we ordered and for £5 each we were expecting better quality than that. Sausages were alright and so was the burger. Shame to see the menu has narrowed quite significantly. May be a while before ordering again sadly.

Lovely food, its quite expensive though. Had a cod bites and chips and sausage and chips with gravy. Also had to cans of pop 21.50. Its worth it as is the best in the area. The cod bites and chips was enough for x2 people if youre on a budget.

Although food collected on time it was only just warm. Chips not freshly cooked and scrappy, batter soggy and mushy peas too runny. Fish inside the batter ok but luke warm. Won’t be using this place again.
