Just came home after a brilliant afternoon at the Pontardawe Inns Ale and folk music festival. Atmosphere was great and the the selection of Ales were fantastic. I had the Buffalo and Horny Goat. Music gave the festival a really relaxed vibe and the kids loved the huge ice cream. Can't recommend enough and will 100% be returning for their next festival

Great weekend at Ponty Fest! Can tell that this pub is the best place to be, because it was ram packed! Bartenders were swept off their feet, but were giving their all in serving as quick as possible with the swarms of people waiting for a drink, still managing to do it with a smile! Biggest Thankyou goes to Sion for finding our IPad that must have fallen from our pram as we stumbled back home😂 he kept it safe and reunited us with it within an hour of us realising it had gone missing! Thankyou again🙏

Ordered starter and main course, we were wondering why our starters were taking so long and low and behold starters came exactly the same time as our mains. Unfortunately by the time we finished our starters our mains were cold. Waitress said that she didn't realise we had main aswell lol and she took the order......please when providing a service that's paid for do the bloody simple things well or get a bad review and lose custom.....! Dog enjoyed it though.

Worst Sunday lunch we have EVER had!!!!! The mozzarella and cheddar bites were greasy and you could taste that the oil they were fried in was old. We had to request cutlery, serviettes and condiments. The Sunday lunch itself was inedible; very little meat, the Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard, you could have played squash with the stuffing ball, the roast potatoes were greasy yet didn't appear to have been roasted very much......and we didn't bother with the rest!!!! Incredibly over priced, £41.00 totally wasted on inedible food. Will never visit this place again.

Ate here during the ‘Help out and eat out’ campaign’ but I was very disappointed and won’t be returning - even at half price.Firstly I have to mention the staff who were very friendly and were rushed off their feet. They were superb. We didn’t go for starters just for main meals. The social distancing rules were explained well. But of course the waiting staff serving us were unable to do so from two metres so it was disappointing to see that they hadn’t been provided with masks. Hubby had the scampi which he enjoyed. I don’t normally order rump steaks in a restaurant but it was the only steak on the menu so I ordered it. It was shocking ! I could barely cut it never mind chew it. I complained to one of the waitresses and she quickly ordered me a second one. This appeared to be much better at first and I managed to eat about a quarter of it before experiencing difficulty in cutting through sinew. I tried sawing through another end of the steak but failed to cut it. Therefore I had to leave this steak too. Tbh I don’t like Marstens food anyway. This one lived up to its reputation - poor!

For the second time within a week, my wife and I ate lunch here, the second time with our son. He had a pint of Pepsi, the kind that is a syrup mixed with soda water from the tap. He said it was flat so my wife took it to ask for another, perhaps from a bottle, the server said it was fine and if we wanted another, we would have to pay for it.Short sighted, poor customer service. For the sake of what must cost pence, they have lost our future custom and I suspect that of people reading not only this review, but what appears to be similar displays of poor customer service in other reviews.

We decided to try the Pontardawe Inn for Sunday lunch as we have heard many good things about the quality and quantity of the food on offer. I have to say it was very nice indeed, the Sunday menu on offer was great. Lots of starters, mains and desserts on offer and the prices are very good indeed. Myself and my friends had starters; mushrooms, prawn cocktail and the black pudding hash. Mains we all had a beef dinner which was lovely, good quality and a nice portion size with cauliflower cheese and lots of vegetables to accompany it. My friend who is a vegetarian had the veggie tart and it was very nice too. All in all, a very nice meal and very good prices. The staff and service was excellent also. I certainly recommend.

We arrive shortly after settling in only to be told that, despite website hours saying open/food service until 10, that they were no longer serving food.......so, we had to find something else of course. But after seeing other reviews, this seems a common problem and the inn only replies with pathetic excuses and empty apologies.......needless to say, will not be giving it another shot, as there are plenty of other great places to eat in the area

I had the three meats roast. If I go again, I would have the beef only one because although the chicken and pork was nice, the beef was fantastic, just how I like it, not red and very tender. Visited with my partner and brother to watch the Wales vs England six nations match. We came in a bit too late to get a seat, the place was full but it just added to the atmosphere and excitement there should be during a six nations match. Drinks are reasonably priced, a round for the three of us came in under a tenner and according to my partner the choice of real ales is very good. Me, I just stuck to the gin and tonic served with ice and a slice every time. At half time we were served free curry and rice. It was delicious. There was a popular local band starting up at about nine but we had to get home to relieve the babysitter. I live only a ten minute walk away so this is my local pub but it is definitely my favourite of all of the pubs in pontardawe mainly due to its homely feel and friendliness.

We visited this pub/restaurant recently as a family for Sunday lunch. We had a very warm welcome and I must say we were very impressed by the Sunday lunch. They also offer a gluten free menu. We will definitely be returning.

Regularly venture down to "The Gwach". The place to be in Pontardawe! All bar staff are friendly, great atmosphere! Matt, Beccie and Hugh give outstanding service. Beer garden is epic and the festival entertainment is top quality.

Really good atmosphere, broad spectrum of customer ages. All the staff were friendly, efficient and polite. Even when waiting at the bar when it was very busy they would acknowledge that they knew that you were there.Very comprehensive and varied "main" and bar snack menu. Apart from the 'normal' pumps (I don't drink real ales, but there was a selection of 5), plus at least four lagersNegatives - very hard for motorised non locals to find the entrance coming from the motorway, and - it can be too popular if "The Swans" are playing!

Always a great range of real ales on sale including local ales. Always made welcome when we arrive after a long walk especially by Danni.

Just want to say what great service I had when visiting my local, especially from Beccie one of the bar maids who would have a drink ready for me without me coming to the bar, fantastic service and a great pub

By far the best pub in pontardawe, selection of beers and always in good condition. Have tried most of the food menu and never had bad meal. Steak offer on mon, burgers on tues and currys on Wednesday all very good value for money. Always shows has bands at the weekend and most big sports events. Quiz every other Tuesday

Had enquired beforehand whether the Gwachel would be both serving Friday evening food and showing the FA Cup match, and as they were my Dad and I made an excursion for the evening. The service was excellent, both from the bar staff and the waiting staff, and the food was superb. I had Peshwari Chicken with rice, my dad the same with chips, and together with the naan and dips, this was very tasty and great quality. After a pause, we both had the vanilla and pistachio biscotti ice cream sundaes which we highly recommend. A great evening out, a good meal, and our team won the Cup match.

One of many visits to the pontardawe inn (the gwachel)for food and yet again a great evening.Ordered away from the promoted menu so were hoping that we could be accomoadated outside the extensive selection of curries. We weren't disappointed. Great individual homemade lasagne and gammon from the grill menu. Friends ordered the curry selection and both the beef madras and chicken jalfreizi were beautiful.Accompanied with a broad selection of wines and real beers the night could not be better. Will definitely be back for more !

We called in on the off chance and were very pleasantly surprised. Lovely warm welcome, plenty of choice and a 2 for 1 meal deal mon - fri 12 - 5 I think, was a great surprise. I had lasagne and my hubby had the chicken tikka, we ordered a side of chips and a lovely spicy potato, which came with mini naan bread, 3 dips and spicy potatoes on a bed of minted opnions in a popadom, very tasty. I would highly recommend this pub for a lunch time meal and we will be returning customers without a doubt. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

It's not often I rave about "pub grub", but tonight I am going to. OK, we're biased, it's our local and we were amongst the 50 or so local people that helped save this pub from dereliction back in 1995 when the Pontardawe Festival bought & renovated it & ran it quite successfully until 2001. Since then, for good or worse, it has gone through several changes of ownership/tennants and is now in the ownership of Marston's and being managed by Steve Tustain who has totally put it back on it's feet. Tonight we went down to the "Gwachel" for one of it's special offers - Grill night - 2 meals for the price of 1. For the less than expensive price of £12.70 (including extras) we had two beautifully cooked sirloin steaks with the usual accompaniment of chips, tomato, peas (I had some excellently sauteed mushrooms with mine). We concur that we've had much worse meals at some very expensive restaurants. Beer-wise - the Pedigree was, as usual, perfect - part of the plus of being a riverside pub with a below ground cellar & a cellarman who knows his stuff. Plus there is a range of 5 other real ales on tap too. (yes, we're CAMRA buffs). The staff were, as usual, very friendly and pleasant despite this being the run up to Christmas and therefore busy. We understand that the meat is locally sourced from grass fed animals - and it shows in the quality (it was delicious) - not your usual chain pub offering.Cannot recommend The Pontardawe Inn highly enough for it's food, beer, service and general ambiance. Well done Steve T!

We came to The Refreshment Rooms with a large group of friends (pre-booked) and were allocated our own room. The decor and atmosphere is so authentic, the staff were friendly and helpful, the coffee was excellent and we are determined to return, next time for a meal as the food smelt divine.

Was out early in Port Talbot and needed somewhere for breakfast. Read some good reviews here and went along. What an absolute delight. A genuine local restaurant rum by the very pleasant owners. No frills but a great value for money breakfast. I had the full breakfast, my wife had the veggie avocado one. Both very good hot and freshly cooked. Had seen a few posts complaining about the coffee. Well it might not be the very best I've had but it was perfectly OK for the price paid. If your passing through on the motorway I really would recommend this little family run gem over the big chains, it beats them hands sown for authenticity, friendliness and value.
