Came here on a detour on a long journey home and so pleased we still here. Staff are very attentive and very on the ball regarding allergens. Even better the food is so freshly cooked that they do not use packaged or powdered gravy they make it themselves so again, no additives and rubbish Ingredients pure niceness Usually take photos but was so hungry I forgot but thanks so much to you all

Popped in for an early tea (5pm) Both of us are Gluten Free; dedicated menus was varied and interesting. The crab Risotto was the best risotto I’ve ever had. The stick toffee pudding was divine. We are fairly local, I can’t wait to go back. Absolutely fantastic food; lovely lady who served us. Great selection of drinks. Thrilled. Would give it 6 stars if I could.

We went there today and had a fantastic meal. We chose the plough mainly because it was the halfway mark for the two of us to catch up, and the reviews did not lie! We both had the roast lamb and it was delicious, perfectly cooked and all the accompaniments were too. Special mention for a really great cauliflower cheese and enormous Yorkshire pudding! We didn’t try any dessert because we were both so full but coffees were nice too, with oat milk available for any dairy dodgers. Great service, good people skills and attentive without being intrusive. There was a couple behind us who complained about something (moaning about another table being served before them…even though they hadn’t been 😒) and the server dealt with them brilliantly. They also mentioned that they usually have a 2 hour table turnaround time, but as they had the capacity today they just let us have longer - greatly appreciated and not something they had to do at all. We’re not local, so unlikely to go again, but highly recommended! It’s also right by the motorway and would be the perfect pit stop to break up a long journey.

The Plough on the Hill is truly a gem, and not just because it's so close to home. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere wraps you up with its warmth and charm. The service is second to none, always attentive, friendly, and making you feel right at home. If there's one thing that stands out, it's how they really make you feel like it's worth every moment to be there! When it comes to the food, oh my goodness, what a delight. We started with a salmon fish pie that was simply delicious: the perfect blend of flavors, with the salmon cooked to perfection and a creamy layer that made it irresistible. If that wasn't enough, my husband had the Ale braised pressed beef brisket, which, was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Every bite of that meat was so flavorful, it almost made you forget everything else. For dessert, we wrapped up with a cheesecake that was heavenly. Do not miss it if you get the chance! And of course, my hubby had the bread and butter pudding, which was the perfect touch to end our meal. The decor of the place, though I can't describe every detail, was simply beautiful. It felt like a place where time slows down, perfect for enjoying a peaceful meal in a well-cared-for, cozy setting. Everything was in place, without being overdone, creating the ideal atmosphere for a top-tier meal. The Plough on the Hill is a first-class place, both for the quality of the food and the impeccable service. I would recommend it without hesitation and look forward to returning!

Absolutely stunning food at a very reasonable price. My wife is gluten free and there was a full gluten free menu with almost as many options as the regular menu. Great choice of alcohol free options and very nicely cooked. Lovely choice of ice cream (including vegan options) which you rarely see at similar establishments. Value for money was incredibly reasonable. Will visit again when travelling the M4 corridor

I recently had an unfortunate experience at The Plough on the Hill and I felt compelled to share my thoughts. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt less than welcoming. We were greeted by a manager (or someone in a similar position) who didn’t seem interested in providing even the most basic level of hospitality. Not once did we see a smile or feel any warmth from them. The real issue arose when we asked to swap tables for a bit more comfort, as there was no one else seated in the area. The manager made a big fuss about it, acting as though we had asked for something unreasonable. They insisted that we couldn’t move, citing the possibility of other guests arriving, even though the table wasn’t reserved. This unnecessary confrontation left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, as if our simple request was a huge inconvenience. It was disappointing because the rest of the restaurant seemed pleasant, and we had been looking forward to a good experience. Unfortunately, the attitude of the manager really soured our visit, and we won’t be returning anytime soon. It's a shame, as good service can make all the difference, and here, it was sadly lacking.

fog so much fog that evening so many of the questions I can not answer, but the interior of the restaurant is very nice and welcoming, the service good and polite... the eating instead I was not particularly impressed, I ordered the spaghetti with fish, big mistake . I am Italian and that certainly did not taste like a spaghetti or even the shape of a plate of spaghetti with fish, but a poor and heavy variety to digest . But the dessert on the other hand was superlative, a scoop of vegan ice cream (I'm not vegan) with rhubarb and biscuit (bought) 😍 BUONISSIMO 😋😋😋!!!!

Drinks order taken immediately but no one came to take a food order after that so I had to go to the front desk after 45 minutes to request someone take our food order. I ordered the fish special which was £24 and was definitely not worth the price as portion was very small and more like a starter!! Fish and chips not as good as Ive had previously and this time was over cooked. No one came to our table after mains and I had to go to the counter again to request coffees and I didn't order desert as I had an appointment and was concerned how long it might take to arrive at my table. We had a takeaway yesterday for the first time. Ordered a whole chicken tandoori and plain paratha. With all the good reviews I was really looking forward to try it. After a long wait which was more than 40 mins (one of the guys even asked me if I ordered) sitting in the shop we had our takeaway ready. I assumed it does take time for chicken tandoori but was disappointed with the chicken. It was not freshly cooked was dry and tasted like a day old. After all the wait and to find the food not fresh really put me off. I gave 2 stars for the paratha which was delicious and freshly made. I’m sure their others dishes are good.
