The Plough Inn in East Riding of Yorkshire

Stayed one night, room spotless, tea, coffee facilities in room. Had a lovely tasty meal in restaurant that night, and a continental breakfast in the morning. Mrs Chau was very friendly and welcoming as soon as we arrived, and nothing was to much bother to her. Would recommend anyone to stay there, or even just go for a meal.

Four of us stayed for 2 nights in mid-week for family visit and it was absolutely fantastic! The owners Mr and Mrs Chu were wonderful and gave us a great reception, very helpful and friendly people. Rooms were very nice and cosy and easily accessible from the car park. Love the continental breakfast with great healthy choices and good quality local Yorkshire bread. Plenty of space to park. We also tried the Mr Chu Chinese restaurant too and it was brilliant. Lovely food. So overall we all enjoyed the stay very much and will definitely go back if visiting the area again. Highly recommended. Definitely a hidden gem!

Stayed here on route to York Christmas market. Mrs chu, is amazing… from check in to check out she’s very attentive . The food in the restaurant is some of the best Chinese food we’ve ever had. Room was spotless, the whole place is spotless! Continental breakfast was lovely, all good quality. They clearly work very hard and it shows. We will be returning in the new year.

We'd driven past a few times but had never stopped, so took a bit of a gamble in booking a room. We stayed in room 4. There was not one thing we could find fault with in the room. Excellent facilities, loads of storage space and lots of nice touches like biscuits and andrex toilet rolls. Room was nice and warm and well decorated with a comfy bed. Great bathroom also. We had a drink at the bar, very friendly staff and bar area immaculately clean. We went through to the restaurant and found it clean and spacious. A good choice of food so we went for the banquet for two which failed to disappoint as each course was delightful, very flavoursome, hot and fresh. We ended the night with a drink at the bar and a chat with the delightful host, then returned to the room for a great night's sleep. The double glazing was brilliant as despite being just off a main road there was minimal traffic noise. Definitely recommend this hidden gem.

My fiance and I stayed two nights and cannot fault our stay. The room was furnished to a high standard with a lovely bathroom with walk in shower. The bed and pillows were so comfortable. Mrs Chu was so friendly and went out of her way to make sure we had a good stay. Continental Breakfast was included Cereals Fresh Fruit Yoghurts Toast Buttet and Jam and Honey unlimited coffee and Tea . We ate in the chinese restaurant had the banquet for two it was also excellent. We will return one day and highly recommend this bed and breakfast hotel.

We booked to stay here for a family wedding at Bunny Hill. Turned up at 8pm on the Friday night and Mrs Chu was very welcoming. The rooms are lovely and cosy although it did get a bit too hot in the night. Turned the radiator down and used the top cover on the bed isntead of the duvet and it was perfect. Lovely walk in shower with good power to it. All the facilities you could need, comfy bed, hot shower good wardrobe space, tea, coffee and even biscuits! We popped down to the restaurant and had a meal. Staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. Food lovely and hot and the duck was fantastic! We've even said although we are in Hull it would be worth the drive out just to have a meal here again! Mrs Chu is a perect host, nothing was too much bother and she was happy to engage in a conversation. Can't think of anything we could criticise, the weekend was perfect!

we booked a family room which was perfect for the two of us with lots of cycling kit etc which lived on spare bed. This room has a big lovely bath which after a hard day in the saddle was perfect to soak away the aches and pains. We had a nice Chinese meal first night which was tasty. Due to Covid no breakfast in restaurant being serviced but we had a take away breakfast delivered to our room on both mornings. It was absolutely lovely. The staff could not do enough for us. Securely storing our bikes away for us overnight. Highly recommended

We booked the Chinese for a birthday meal. The staff were friendly but we were very disappointed with the meal. It wasn't as hot as it should have been. The duck was very fatty and chewy. The Chow Mein was tasteless and dry and did even look appetising. We found it over priced for the quality of food.

We booked this hotel after having a race day at Elvington. The staff couldn’t have done enough for us, even giving us a bag of chocolates. The Chinese restaurant was the best Chinese food we have ever had, well worth a visit. The rooms were very comfortable and everything we needed. The continental breakfast was such a surprise, they are left outside your room at an agreed time, and consisted of sausage muffin with scrambles egg (hot) a full carton of orange juice, I carton of fresh milk, banana, chocolate bread, yoghurt and a punnet of strawberries, all in a brown bag left outside your door. Excellent

We’re staying in Hayton and managed to get a table for 3 last minute on Wednesday night during eat out to help out. The food was absolutely magnificent, the service was tremendous and overall one of the best family meals out we’ve ever had. We all came away stuffed and completely satisfied. If you’re in the area and can get here, don’t miss out. 10/10

Lovely hotel friendly staff. Pity the walls are paper thin. Can hear everything next door even when they use the toilet. Stopped here for a rest but not so tonight. Need to get drunk to sleep here and I don't drink.

We were racing at Elvington, York and this lovely place was nearby. Such a lovely friendly host. Both the hotel side and restaurant were perfect. I honestly couldn't find anything that was not 100%. It was clear that the owners really cared about their customers and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for three nights and will definitely stay here again. Many thanks.

I had booked the restaurant for a family meal. We had an incident that meant instead of arriving at 8.30 as intended we were half an hour late. We were welcomed warmly, without fuss and served a lovely banquet. Our lateness must have caused issues as we were the only table eating well past 11, still no rush and very pleasant service and food. On top of our late arrival we also required gluten-free options which were no bother at all and were all beautifully served and so tasty! We’ll definitely be back soon, next time, (fingers crossed) without the puncture 😂

We had a lovely stay at this very interesting hotel. It's only a small hotel, but the room was very nice, and reasonably priced. The staff were delightful and very friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. It was a very clean hotel with excellent facilities, The towels could have been better though, they were small and not very soft, but apart from that, we had a perfect stay and we will go back again definately. The hotel also has a chinese restaurant attached, which had excellent food. A little pricy but very good quality. Definately would recommend it if you stay there.

We went to the Plough on speck without a reservation, however we were very lucky to get a table for three in the already busy restaurant.We weren't disappointed either. Our orders were promptly cooked and served and were delicious. The service was very professional and slick. The atmosphere was good and not in any way noisy, despite it being busy.A nice thing about the Plough is that although being a Chinese restaurant they have maintained a pub bar area so that you can just go and have s drink if you prefer.Will we return? You bet we will!!

Stayed here with my parents last week for my grans 100th birthday. Lovely warm rooms, very good standard, and lovely Chinese food. Definitely better than a premier inn and similar prices so if staying in the area it’s well recommended. The owner knows my parents who are regular visitors and is very friendly and welcoming.

I am new to the area and from the reviews decided to have a takeaway from The Plough Inn. As we couldn't find a menu online, my partner called the restaurant who directed us to the online menu and we then called to place our order. Firstly, the prices which are on the online menu are different to the prices in the restaurant so we were over charged. When approaching this issue when going to collect our order, the women decided to argue at me and tell me that this isn't true when I said I would show her and check which I didn't appreciate! In the middle of this, she decided to take my card anyway and use contactless to pay for the meal. The value of our meal was £25.00 and we didnt receive prawn crackers and when we called, the woman argued with me yet again and said apparently she saw me walk away with the bag which was a lie as I had the order in front of me. The food was cold, the special curry was very thick and had hardly any meat in it, the chicken satay in the platter was salty and the fried rice was not fried... it was boiled rice with some egg thrown in. Bad customer service when speaking to them over the phone and will not be visiting again!!!

First visit in some time. Meal was as expected, quality food. However the after effects were not. Why oh why is it necessary to heavily lace food with MSG, or salt or both? The need for several drinks of water overnight surely isn’t necessary.

A group of 8 of us ate at Mr Chu's last week. We enjoyed the 'sharing' meals but found that service was slow even though it was not terribly busy. Have had take aways in the past which have always been good.

Food was exceptional we has the banquet for four of us and couldn't manage it all, another evening two of us had the sea bass which was very nice too, only down side is they put the hot plates on table long before food comes out so by the time food is served the hot plates are cold plates not hard to get that right. The takeaway prices are so much cheaper more than half the price on eating in, that is probably why on a Saturday night the restaurant was not very busy but mountinus amount of takeaways coming out of the kitchen,

Stayed nearby & on our last evening decided to have a take away from here. I ordered over the telephone & was told it would be ready in half a hour. It was ready & waiting on my arrival.The young man who served me was very polite & friendly.

The wait to order was interminable. Almost and hour and a quarter before order was taken. Another near half hour before the food arrived. A great pity as the food when it materialised really was very good. Water ordered had to be sought out. And one or two other quibbles re ordering that were irritating. Whether it's a matter of not employing enough staff or not to serve I don't know, but such decent food demands and deserves better treatment of the customers. And I am reminded that the last time I was at Chu's i left after an hour before I was shown to a table and the restaurant was not particularly busy. attention to service is crucial. The food deserves it.

Waited 1 hr15 mins for takeaway which we’d ordered in advance. We asked about the food on three occasions before they checked where our order was. Initially the staff were uninterested and then at the end the manager was aggressive and shouted at us repeatedly

Had a one night stay here and find it to be very good the rooms were clean & tidy also equipped with everything you’d need even toiletries and a hairdryer. Brilliant friendly hospitality from owners and staff, always there to assist . Had a meal in mr chu’s Chinese restaurant and couldn’t fault the food or value for money. In the morning there was a large selection of continental breakfast and also a full cooked English breakfast too. Overall I would highly recommend if you are in the area paying the ploughman a visit.

Great place to stay..very friendly staff .Parking not a problem i had merc sprinter.rooms very clean & tidy..made up every day to a high standard..resturant/bar is excellent..chinese food or english is best quality/ quantity ive tasted in years..breakfast is whatever you ask for these guys cook it on order absolutly fantastic.

Had a great meal with friends last evening, the service was second to none and the food was absolutely fabulous. Have been to this restaurant several times now, but have to say this was one of those memorable moments. There was no complaints at all, food was served hot, and plentiful by pleasant staff. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Spent one night here, lovely room with bath and shower overhead and coffee and tea making facilities. Dinner was a veritable feast, delicious. Breakfast choices were plenty though we stuck with full english. The pub interiors and furniture have been lovingly built by Mr Chu and it shows. Both Mr and Mrs Chu are fabulous hosts, we hope to return and highly recommend.

As a couple we were allocated one of the rooms down the long corridor that fronts the car park. Having the enclosed corridor keeps the temperature up and the noise level down. The room itself was very tidy with all mod cons including WiFi and...

Heard great things about " Mr Chu's" as a restaurant. We decided to give it a go for a takeaway.

Family of five adults went early Saturday night, one especially wanted sweet n sour king prawn so we asked if we ordered the set meals, could we swap one of the sweet n sour pork dishes for king prawn? Yes but only for extra payment.

Returned after a few months overseas. This place never disappoints me, the food, the staff and the prices are awesome. Thank you mr and Mrs. Chu.

The Plough Inn has so much potential, the building is fantastic and the rooms great.

We ate here tonight as in pocklington seemed to be closed and we wouldn't eat at the feathers as our last time there is was terrible. So we thought we would give this place a try and we are glad we did. The food was served quite quick and was very tasty and all three of us really enjoyed it the service was good but I thought it could have been a little better. We would definitely come here again

The first room we entered was packed with ladies attending a hen night but hard not to be impressed with the massive round tables with lazy Susan to serve food from. Thankfully lots of other rooms and we were shown to a quiet table where I had a quiet pint of Timothy Taylor's ale before ordering. I shared the mixed starter with my wife - a good mix of spare ribs, seaweed, spring rolls and a chicken satay kebab although more curry than satay. I had sweet and sour chicken with special rice - the special rice was a meal in itself with prawns, chicken and beef - one would do for three people I think. Not a great fan of Chinese food but enjoyed this although wasn't cheap

Having travelled past mr chus for many years i finally decided to pay a visit with my family, the building and decoration foremost is awesome and nicely laid out. Our greeting was vague and it took flagging down a bored waiter to eventually take my order. I will admit we was eating on a budget as it was more to check out the venue than any celebration. The menus also has a nice deep fried sticky feel to them that makes you want to wash your hands. The hot and sour soup was awesome, ill give it a star just for that, but my main of hot and spicey beef was just minimal. When a plate costs the same as a full meal in pocklington you expect something.... anything. But i recived a bit of meat and a couple decorative carrots. It litrally felt like the most expensive tapas i had ever ordered. Staff tho friendy themselves seemed a bit taught on the job the given the jist of what they should be doing, and it is fascinating to watch them carry one dish at a time as im guessing someone has lost the serving tray.So, to conclude as i was just there to sample the place and not as a big celebration i am more critical, my bill came to £62, for 3 people with 3 drinks. But realistically would have needed to be double that for a decent meal. Definitely not going back, theres too much choice in the area to be trying to get the best out of it.

stayed for two nights as we attending a nearby wedding, the hotel is everything you could want and a little bit more. Rooms are small but have everything you need and are decorated to a high standard. Breakfast was really nice a good selection of fruit, yoghurts , cereals as well as something cooked to your order if required. Tea/coffee and water, good selection of toiletries, shower cap, tooth brushes ..even slippers. Its well worth a visit.

Called in to the plow was surprised to find it was a Chinese restaurant as well as a hotel and pub the lady who came to us to find what we wanted I think was the owner she was very nice we had our meal the place was not busy but could have been because the weather was very hot I enjoyed my meal the place was very clean well worth a visit and I will be going back again

we booked to stay here as we liked the idea of a Chinese restaurant, wow what a gem of a place ! first off was the friendly welcome...we felt like we were regulars, then the room, well you couldn't want for a better place, everything was laid on and I think if it wasn't they would surely oblige, we had one of the many banquets on offer and it was the best we've had ! the staff and lovely landlady made our stay the best place , breakfast ...well what a choice, everything catered for , shame we didn't live nearer...we would eat there every week !!

We stopped off one Saturday evening for the banquet. The starters and duck pancakes were fantastic and excellent portion sizes. The main meals - sweet and sour, chicken in garlic sauce and Kung Po prawns tasted nice, but the luminous red sauces were a touch off putting and a bit gloopy and heavy. The rice was slightly dry and overcooked. We would go again, but perhaps choose a wider variety of main meals in the hope of having something lighter. Service was good and drinks reasonable.

I have visited this restaurant on many occasions, both eating in and take away. The food is the best in the area without a doubt. Great atmosphere, the staff are so friendly and Mrs Chu is lovely. I could not recommend this restaurant more!

We went here as group of six. Lovely, clean and staff so welcoming.. We ordered two different banquets between us. What a choice everything was delicious. It's making my mouth water thinking about it while writing this review.We really can not wait to go back again. The food was hot and fresh.The waitress staff are great, proper customer service.

Every Christmas we meet family for a family meal, this year we went to Mr Chu's (aka The Plough Inn) in the village of Hayton near Pocklington, East Yorkshire. We were greeted by Mrs Chu who looked after us for the entire meal, there were eight of us so we ordered a selection of starters and individual meals along with rice and noodles and then we all dug in taking full advantage of the Lazy Susan table.The service was very attentive all the way through and we felt as though we were the only customers in the restaurant.Thank you for a fabulous experience

After just finishing our meal, which we had no problems with. We asked for the bill which came and was payed with no problems. After we had paid, we stayed sat at the table to finish our wine, both had half a glass full. As we were sat talking and finishing our wine, one of the waitresses came and asked us if the meal was ok and then told us that they had been waiting for the table for a while. Baring in mind we hadn't been there much longer than an hour after booking our table at 7:30. We felt rushed and uncomfortable being there any longer. If the restaurant was full we could see why this may be said, however there were other tables empty or with people who had been there much longer than us. I had already tipped the waitresses before this happened which I now regret doing so. Very poor service!

We regularly drop in for an early supper on a Sunday night and the place is fairly quiet (5.30 pm). The restaurant has a proper log fire and is very nicely decorated. The food is always excellent, we often have scampi and a meat pie and the chips are superb, as are the veggies. The pastry is nigh-on perfect and the meat is tender. Puddings are good too, especially the banoffee sundae.Additionally, there is a fun quiz every Wednesday evening at 9 pm which is very popular, with sandwiches after.

Stopped overnight at the Plough Inn and had dinner in the chinese restaurant, we had one of the banquets and it was excellent, plenty of food, good quality and great value, plus the staff were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We stayed here overnight to attend a Christening on Sunday morning. What a great place, the staff are all very friendly and polite.We had one small issue with the room which was sorted immediately. A nice comfortable room (Would have preferred a slightly firmer bed) Had a nice relaxed afternoon chilling in the bar and enjoying the hospitality of some freshly made prawn crackers to nibble on.Booked a table in the restaurant which was highly recommended to us and it didn't let us down. The food was superb and so well cooked. We had a set meal and thoroughly enjoyed it.Had a cooked breakfast the next morning which is fairly small but don't be put off by that because you can have as much cereal, toast, croissants, fruit, yoghurt as you want so there is more than enough to satisfy.Would definitely stay there again without hesitation.

Great place to stay staff are really friendly and efficient. Rooms immaculate, lovely breakfast which is cooked to order. I would definitely stay again. One tip the rooms have to be locked using your key inside and outside thought this was a bit of a safety issue if you forget.

The service here was outstanding couldn't be better. It was an easy stay the food I had was exceptional! Mind you as a pescatarian there wasn't so many dishes, if you were full blown vegetarian you wouldn't have much choice, oh unless you go to the back page of the menu which is chips, and everything you can possibly have with chips. But as I said the food was exceptional and I have been to China and am a tiny bit snobby about Asian cuisine. The only problem with the room, was the shower wasn't powerful enough for me. Other than that, which I can live with, it was a VERY comfortable bed, warm room, clean, all you could ask for really. The only other thing is the wifi is terrible and usually that wouldn't bother me so much but as this was a business trip and we did require wifi, so much so that we had to go elsewhere to find some and failing that actually had to tether it from our phone. But all in all I had a good stay and the service is second to none! Thanks :-)

We really enjoyed staying at The Plough Inn and we would certainly recommend the hotel. The welcome is warm and the service is excellent. The room was of five star quality, the breakfast was excellent and the parking was extremely convenient. Indeed it is impossible to find a fault. As we arrived rather late and were attending a wedding we unfortunatley did not eat at their highly recommended Chinese restaurant.The location for visiting York and the surrounding area is also excellent. What a diamond of a hotel!

Amazing find in the lovely countryside near York. Rooms are immaculate, everything is literally brand new. Very friendly staff, great food. Plenty of parking space. Thoroughly recommended.

I have been staying at conifir lake a short walk from the plough inn and i have eaten there twice this weekend the food and service were exellent and good value for money fish friday is worth the visit Keep up the good work

We visited here after a hard days graft playing at the york maze the staff were nice and the meal was lovely.

Arrived after booking through booking.com only to be told I had no reservation ..after 30 mins eventually there was a room enjoyable evening and nice meal in restaurant the following morning went for breakfast bit unorganized we got a hot drink waited to see if we were going to get a cooked breakfast but none of the staff asked and no notice or nothing to say so ...so we were unsure if it was just continental or a cooked breakfast so we left feeling hungry and had to go elsewhere for breakfast after paying our bill

A ride out on a Friday evening found my son and I pulling in to the plough inn out in the East Yorkshire countryside. Their restaurant space was full but if we wanted we could eat in a clubby hole by the bar which we did. Gammon with egg and a medium sirloin was picked off an extensive menu. Something for everyone on it. I ordered my steak medium it came medium to rare very bloody. I didn't mind. Had my wife ordered it it would have gone back. Definitely not medium. That a side we enjoyed the meals and the beer that washed it down. If you like busy bar restaurants then the plough inn is for you. Enjoy!

We stayed at the KP Lodges nearby and the receptionist recommended this takeaway, ordered for collection which was done promptly and the food was beautiful!

We stayed here having been booked in by a friend who told us it was nice and had one of the best Chinese restaurants in the country. Big claim there :-? And you know he may have been right. We got back from the race's and found the restaurant packed with diners. We saw one of the staff and asked if we could possibly eat that night at first she seemed doubtful but when we said we were staying there she said yes hotel guests have priority so we booked for 830 and had an amazing banquet. The food is truly stunning and the staff and owner couldn't be more helpful they even put what we couldn't eat in take out packs and put them in the fridge for us;-) Recommended definitely, will we be back oh yes ;-)

Very nice (dog friendly but only because we had prebooked a table, we dont like pushing the fact we have a dog with us on other peoples night out??) Plenty of tables in the bar and informed the main eating area is dog free. Speedy service, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, meal were as ordered and food as expected.Will definitely return

We booked last minute so didn't know what it was going to be like. The hotel was excellent really clean and comfortable. The beds & the pillows were so comfy. We ate both nights in the Chinese attached to the hotel and both nights we weren't disappointed the meals and service was excellent. We chose to have the continental breakfast and the choice was great. Will certainly be back.

My wife and I had booked in for a night and when we arrived we noticed that they have a Chinese restaurant so we ate there it was excellent the staff were very pleasant and helpful we ordered a set meal and there was more than enough.The accommodation was excellent and good value.

Having booked a table for 7pm we didn't actually sit down until 7.45pm without any explanation or apology for the wait. After being served prawn crackers that were supposedly 'suitable for vegetarians' we placed our order and the food then didn't take too long to come out. The problem was my girlfriend's vegetarian meal had chunks of beef in it and had to be returned. The waiting on staff were completely oblivious to our situation and once the correct meal had been served there was no check-back or apology from our waitress. When we tried to bring up the issue with service, the waitress just giggled nervously and left. It's a shame that the service was so appalling because the food was actually really tasty. We felt very disappointed to waste our money on bad service

First visit here with friends. Friends had been several times and their restaurant in Hull. Had one of the set meals and swapped a dish. It was very tasty and big sized meal. All the courses was very well presented. The waitresses and waiter was very friendly and helpful even though they was rushed of their feet as it was very busy. They brought out the birthday cake we took in with us and sang along with us as a surprise which all added to a very enjoyable evening.

We visited here last night and upon arrival was a little confused about the lay out. There is a hotel and their pub and the Chinese is through the pub.. When I called in January I was told they were really busy and they had to change my original booking time to avoid waiting for food. There were only 1 other couple in the restaurant. The food came within 5 minutes of ordering which makes me a little uneasy! The food was nice but very small portions. Weird how the rice came out about 5 minutes before the mains (had clearly been microwaved) the service was appalling and we had to keep asking for the bill and to pay. We were only in the restaurant about half an hour. We came to the area the same time last year and we were told to book a month in advance to be able to get a table here! I think something has changed since then!

First time we've been. Recommended by a friend. Fantastic and will definitely return. Childs meal burger was great. My steak was cooked just right. Hubby had Barnsley chop and said it was lovely. Will definitely be a regular haunt.

We stayed overnight last minute booking. Room v.clean and spacious. Breakfast was continental but v.impressive, owners happy to help and sign post to local attractions.We did not try the Chinese restaurant here as had made other plans but all guests said the food was excellant, will definately revisit and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Just moved to the area, so quite difficult to compare this to our normal chinese in York. The restaurant is in a part of a large pub ajoining a small motel. From outside, the neon lights look very impressive, and welcoming. My wife and i arrived and ordered a drink in the bar area, and was welcomed by the lady owner, who asked if we would like a table straight away, we said yes, and followed her into the restaurant, away from the bar area. The restaurant was quite large, split into a large party area, and a smaller area set out on a curved shape sort of area. Several well dressed English girls were welcoming guests, and supplying menus and drink requests. As we were a bit early at 5pm, there seemed to be ample staff for the amount of customers. We ordered our starters, which followed our prawn crackers. I ordered well done salt and pepper ribs, and my wife ordered satay chicken on sticks. Nice and hot, the satay was delicious, but my ribs were lacking meat, and very fatty. We then moved up a gear for my favourite the crispy aromatic duck, which was delicious. Then came the strange bit!! I always like the theatre of a sizzling plate, and have had copious amounts during my 61 years. I ordered one of the sizzlers stated in the menu, only to be told in a very pleasant humerous manner, that she would have to make the sizzling noise, as they do not offer the sizzling plate dishes any more! I was shocked, and amazed, how can you go to a chinese, and not have a sizzler? The meal came on an ordinary plate, and was placed over a candle, not exactly the same effect!! Overall, the service, especially from our waitress whose name eludes me, and from the lady owner, was excellent. The food overall was quite good, but i think the rib cuts could be more meaty. My sizzler was however, a real let down and a mystery. Having said that, the menu is big enough to enjoy other delicious meals, and i would certainly reccomend the overall expierience, and we will definitely be returning. For any new visitors here, they also offer a superb take away menu, wll worth a try.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday 23rd January. The restaurant was busy. Mrs Chu was her usual courteous and efficient self, however her staff were less than obliging. We had to wait longer than expected for our starter to arrive. That said the crispy duck was delicious. Sadly drinks service was less than acceptable and had to be reminded of our order on 2 occasions. Our main course eventually arrived but only 3 of the 4 orders were supplied. It would appear that kitchen staff made the error and this took time to resolve. The quality of the food was very good, but I had to find a staff member of staff to pay the Bill as they seemed all too keen to be clearing tables than looking after their clients. In conclusion, I can only assume that it would be more preferable to visit during a week day than a weekend as staff appear to be under pressure and uninterested in the job of serving customers in an efficient manner

We had a family meal here and was surprised at the portion sizes, you don't get a lot for your money but it is nice food.we had a ask the waiter to unlock the window for some fresh air as it was that hot people look unwell. The pub side of the restaurant was totally empty.

We popped in for a quick drink.The atmosphere was friendly and the bar staff couldn't do enough for you.We even caught the local ukulele band practicing.Thanks for the beer.

Myself and Family stayed the night recently and found that the hotel was very well looked after, had very friendly staff, very nice facilities and they provided excellent service all round! I could not fault this hotel and my family really enjoyed the weekend trip and staying in a hotel like this helped the stay to be more pleasant :)

On a recent holiday to Yorkshire, our family had a meal at Mr Chu in the Plough Inn near Pocklington. This is an amazing Chinese restaurant and one of the best Chinese meals I have eaten anywhere in the UK (and I’ve eaten a lot of them). The food was of exceptionally high quality, and the service was tremendous with very friendly and helpful staff. My little boy was made to feel very special by all of the staff in the restaurant, and I would thoroughly recommend a visit and will be going back to this restaurant in the future.

This review is of the Motel.Strange collection of Chinese Restaurant, Bar and Motel. WiFi not working, poor maintenance on bathroom fittings, clean but basic rooms, with thin walls so noisy at night.Location is in the middle of nowhere 30mins from York.A little disorganised with checking in and breakfast.Reasonable rates was about the only good point.

Having taken our son to York City yesterday, my wife and I stayed the night here. Hadn't meant to but we were late booking & Premier Inn & Travel Lodge were full.Tried this from reviews on the internet & were so glad we did! Arrived about 7.30 pm and restaurant was full. Staff were happy to let us wait & we were served about 40 mins later.Very nice Chinese restaurant, attached to the hotel. Reasonable prices & good quality food, in a clean & attractive setting. Friendly staff.Good sized bedroom, comfy bed. Clean room & good sized bathroom. Working Wi Fi too!Good, complimentary continental breakfast rounded off a great stay! Will definitely be back!

We have recently been to The Chinese restaurant here. We went for a family celebration, Mr and Mrs Chu and team welcome you and are very attentive throughout the meal. Food it superb and it just keeps coming. Definitely will be returning.

Had a lovely over night stay. But we were a bit worried when reading the 'welcome' folder as it reads a bit abrupt however the staff and hosts were very welcoming and friendly! The 'pub' area is a real suprise of comfortable leather suites and comfy bar area. Will be back!!!

This is a hotel as well. We came a bit early but Mr Chu was really welcoming and the room was fine, there was even 2 pairs of slippers in there. We came back in the evening and went for a Chinese meal and the food was fabulous. We had a Chinese banquet A and we couldn't eat all of it. All in all this hotel was a great mix and I really hope that others find it so.

This is a hotel with a Chinese Restaurant as well, we stayed here for one night whist completing the Way of the Roses Cycle route, the room was adequate, it had the smallest cups I have ever seen to make a drink in the room, there was tea, coffee and hot chocolate but the sachet of chocolate filled the cup with no room for water!The bathroom had a shower but no bath, they do have two rooms with baths but you would need to request these when booking, the facilities in the bathroom were great with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and shower caps provided.The restaurant was great, the food was really tasty and authentic, it cost us £58 for two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine.Breakfast was provided early for us to be able to leave early, continental but perfectly adequate.Staff were friendly and welcoming and our cycles were put into a store room.

everytime has impressed us will go back time and again. my wife had the fish and i will be next time!!!

Smart atmosphere and crisp white linen. As a party of six we were very pleased to have a round table tucked away in a corner to enjoy our meal and chat. All of the starters were plentiful and tasty particularly very meaty spare ribs in ok sauce. The quick fried lamb with spring onions and ginger was fresh and tasty. My in laws recommended their lemon and honey chicken and the hot pork cili was certainly hot - beware! The house white was vert tasty and competitively priced. Would love to return again.

A super foodie restaurant/pub. Pricey but food was lovely. Costs seemed to be on a par with other restaurants in the area.

A fantastic meal in pleasant surroundings... There is also a separate bar area and rooms to enjoy a drink away from the table!!

Mr Choos is a classy place, with expensive looking wood panelling décor everywhere The menu is extensive, and the service is good.

We called in here thinking it was just a pub in which we could get a Bar snack. Wrong!!! The absolutey charming welcome we received made us go to Plan 2 - a Chinese experience under the management of Mr. Choos. Because we were on a tight schedule, we selected a shared menu of Vegetables Lettuce Wrap (I'm not a V but I'll have this anytime!); and Diced Chicken with Cashew Nuts plus Boiled Rice. We finished off with a Pot of Jasmine Tea - which was refreshed without request. A great experience from a Restaurant in the middle of nowhere!

The food was great and the service we received was second to none. Nothing was too much for them. We received a warm welcome from Mrs Chu and seated in the bar area. We ordered our drinks which came straight away with 2 menus. Once in the restaurant we were not rushed to finish. This was an overall excellent experience. We will be back.

We only stayed the one night but we will certainly be back. The room was superb,spotlessly clean & beautifully decorated. We had our evening meal in the restaurant & couldn't fault that either...delicious & lovely people as well.

This new to us place on the main road to York is owned by the same family as the large and famous Mr Choos outside Hull.What a difference! We were sad following our last couple of visits to Hull and we have found once again a restaurant we want to continuing going back to. It may be a few extra miles from our home but the journey is worth it. It is not just the superior décor but the little details we found impressive. This is the only place we have found where you are given a tea strainer without asking for one. Many, including theirs in Hull, do not appear to have any. The plate warmers STAYED warm throughout our meal and the set lunches give good options to choose from. Wow the meals we had today were perfect. Cant wait to go again. We, from time to time, dine out with visiting friends and we cant wait to show them this latest find.We will return and return.

Never eaten in but had quite a few takeaways, food varies but on the whole good and the staff are exceptionally polite.

I like a restaurant where the host welcomes you personally and actually remembers you from your previous visits. The staff are courteous and very well trained and the food is just superb. Go with a big party and book a large table with a lazy-Susan. You have to try as many different dishes as you can. And, of course, Mrs Choo is wonderful!

Have dined here on several occasions and never been disappointed. The last time was New Years Eve, we had to go really as it was heavily booked later on but it was still a memorable evening.
