Great find on the way to challaborough beach / bayand before the road gets narrow. Superb Sunday lunch, beef and pork excellent and large portions, masses of veg and giant gravy boat. Also great choice of puddings, crumble and spotted dick superb. think it’s two courses for £20 so excellent value. Big car park and plenty of charm. Bar and waiting staff all super friendly and very efficient. Even better it’s very dog friendly. Well worth a visit if you’re going down to the coast.

Sunday lunch, firstly they forgot our order so waited a long time to be served. Had the lamb which was dry and Yorkshire puddings were burnt to a crisp, gravy like water. On a plus note the veg was good. Really couldn't recommend.

When I go to an independent pub I always ask myself 'is the food better than weatherspoons', in this instance it wasn't, pizzas tiny, burned, scampi and chips ultra basic, no care gone into the meal and over double the price of spoons, felt like ingredients were frozen from aldi or lidl and just chucked in the oven and slammed on my table for £15.95.Seriously disappointed. Such a shame as it looked like a lush pub. Pub needs a general clean too.

Had a really nice time in Pickwicks and found the locals very friendly met a lovely couple that made jewellery out of lamb cutlets which was quite surprising as I've only ever enjoyed them as a tasty meal but this couple had found quite a few different uses for lamb cutlets the lady was wearing lamb cutlet earrings and a stunning lamb cutlets necklace with a matching brooch whilst her husband who I think was ex military had a lovely lamb cutlet pocket watch and a lamb cutlet eye patch that made him look very regal later in the night I asked his wife if she would like a dance as we made our way to the dance floor she done a enormous fart that absolutely stunk and made me vomit in her hair I apologised she laughed and told me not to worry and went on to tell me lots of people vomit over her and it makes her happy all in all a great night and very friendly locals.

Had a very nice Sunday lunch here . 2 courses for £19.95 ( smaller portions with discounts for over 65’s) Good portion size , lovely perfectly cooked al dente vegetables. My husband had beef , I had Turkey, both well cooked. Good Yorkshire puddings & proper roast potatoes, not those fried Aunt Bessie things you often get. It’s a lovely friendly village local with a small but good menu of above average food . They do baked potatoes to take away with a variety of fillings at weekends from the rear garden seating area too

On Arriving the pub looks very traditional and welcoming. We ordered the Roast dinner. 1 lamb and beef. The lamb was undercooked and the beef overcooked. A shame with the veg as all frozen and watery. Only saving grace was the potato's which were home cooked. Very underwhelming. Whilst my partner had finished his meal and I was still eating the waitress asked if we had finished . Clearly I hadn't. The dessert was a very stodgy tastless crumble. Not worth a visit unfortunately. Try the journeys end.

A friendly local pub. Hard trying to get drinks with people hanging around the bar though. Food served from 6.30pm. Quite a good choice. My wife had BBQ ribs and I had Steak burger. Nothing wrong with the meals at all and reasonably priced too. The battered fish looked very good on the adjoining table. We parked behind the Spar shop but not sure if that was OK or not. We had been to the Pickwick before on a couple occasions under previous owners, and while the staff are friendly enough, that’s where the good things ended. The place has zero feels, no atmosphere, feels barren. The decor needs changing asap. The food was nothing short of awful; on the menu it states the pizzas are thin, crispy and hand stretched to order, as we had had under owners before. But it was clear that a frozen pre-made and store bought base had been used; zero crisp, thick and there was a thing raw layer of dough under the overly sweet sauce. The “homemade” pie was thin and watery, and had kidneys inside despite not ordering the steak and kidney pudding. The scampi were mush, grey and tasteless; the chips were frozen and tasted like the fryer, and the mushy peas tasted like they were straight out of the can. We politely paid and left but unfortunately won’t be returning while the food or pub is in this state.

We've been going to the Pickwick for years, but this was a real disappointment. Service was great, and staff were friendly, but the food was, honestly, terrible. Back in the day when it was Italian-themed, the pizzas were fantastic. We ordered nachos which came with guac that looked like it came out of a tube - it shouldn't be that green or "shiny". Lasagne was definitely homemade, but tough and uninspiring. Can't remember the last time we didn't eat all the chips, but these were kinda "powdery". Not sure how you can get chips wrong!? At £12 per main, we weren't getting anywhere near value for money - especially as we just didn't want to eat what was served. So, clearly not a gastro pub, and the prices reflect that, but you have to do better than that.

Sunday lunch. Good welcome from friendly staff and the large open fire helped to create a warm atmosphere. Good choice of meats at £13.95,extra meats at £1.00 fer portion and the portions were of a generous size. Meat, Yorkshire puddings, potatoes and stuffing were plate served and gravy came to table in a large jug. So far so good, but a dish of assorted cabbage was something of a disappointment. The red cabbage in particular was just plainly boiled and not very tasty. There are so many good recipes for red cabbage involving apples, onions and sugar for one which could have made the meal so much more tasty and raised the whole day a notch or two. The sweets we had were very good and at the price compared to other similar pubs the value was very good. Nice choice of beers and wines at reasonable prices.

We were staying in Easton, near to this pub so decided to support the local upon returning from a day out (on a Tuesday). However, despite looking at food timings on line, it did not work out as planned. We arrived at 5pm to find that food service didn't start until 6.30pm. Online details need updating for others to know. We popped back to our accommodation and then back to the pub for 6.30pm. We then discovered that the specials on the board had run out, and my choice from menu had also run out. This is not really acceptable when food service had only just started! We had a lovely meal, I had the curry and my husband had a pizza and both good value. Service was excellent, atmosphere was great and dog friendly too. Would definitely recommend and visit again, just a few things need refining for customer satisfaction.

I know this is a newly reopened so I understand they may have teething problems to work on. We booked last minute but couldn’t pre order, this was fine due to them having no bookings. It was quite busy when we arrived. The service at the bar was great and the staff friendly. The food took a while but they were busy, they may want to notify of wait times when busy. There was a shortage of some items, the gammon advertised with pineapple, pineapple ran out and I wasn’t told until food in front of me. The peas were lacking and they ran out when the table after us ordered. There was also no ketchup, I believe they did go to the shop for this during our meal? The apple crumble had berry’s in, if not just berry’s? They also need a sign on the toilet door saying it’s stiff as people kept queing as it’s stuck on engaged. Hopefully organisation may improve as they get more settled in, i will be back for drinks as can’t fault the selection, garden and bar area is lovely pub vibe!

We were delighted to hear that this place had re opened.. in this current economy it’s amazing that small pubs are doing well and continuing to keep themselves afloat. So when we decided to pop in from our holiday house for a quick drink (a party of 10 of us.. on a Thursday eve) we were also pleased to see the place busy. It was packed with I would guess many of the local campsite.. which in the height of through season you would hope any decent pub would attract the local clientele. HOWEVER.. this is where the problem started .. trying to order a drink at the bar.. it was busy and we were prepared to wait, but we waited .. and waited.. and whilst we waited (we were very prominent and weren’t hiding our presence) .. we witnessed the total chaos unfold .. they’d run out of pizza bases.. people were trying to order nachos but they’d run out of cheese!.. there were no wine glasses left!.. the total chaos became clear.. it was a complete shambles… we were still left waiting.. and like I say.. we are happy to wait if someone from behind the bar just had the manners to give us eye contact and simply say ‘be with you in a moment’ .. but they didn’t. 15 minutes passed and things were going from bad go worse. It was clear they couldn’t cope. The staff gave off bad vibes.. they were unwelcoming and not able to deal with the prospect of a bustling Thursday eve. We left. The shop across the road stocks a great supply of drinks and snacks and are really welcoming and hospitable. Good luck to the landlords .. no one should loose out on custom in these difficult times.. but sadly they lost ours. We won’t return.

Called in for a drink and light lunch after a walk at Ayrmer Cove. It was Roast Lunch only( which is fair enough) so we settled for some Piper crisps, a lemon and lime, and a pint of wonderful Jail Ale from Dartmoor Brewery. The Barman even found me a tankard, this being my old-fashioned but preferred way of drinking a pint. Good sized, sheltered area at the back of the pub with plenty of benches. Dogs and children are welcomed too. Serving glasses were sparkling and the toilets equally so. Easy disabled access to the latter. The layout inside is functional with enough space between tables to not feel cramped. I believe it is under new management and they seem to be getting it right. I can see this pub becoming a go-to venue in the very neat future.

Worst roast dinner I’ve had by far! Hard cold veg, the meat was all fatty, potatoes had no flavour. The staff have no manners and poorly dressed. Very disappointing! Won’t be returning. Please don’t waste your money

Down a small street leading off from the quayside sits this superb Italian restaurant. We had dinner one evening in November whilst we were staying in Dartmouth and I'm so glad we did. The bruschetta was brilliant but the pasta was exceptional and together with an amazingly tasty squash salad made for a great meal. The cosy and intimate feel of the restaurant was enhanced by the warm welcome and excellent service we received. On top of that, the drinks were sensibly priced with a good variety of wines on the menu. We had a great evening and I'm pretty sure you would too. We will certainly visit again when we are next in Dartmouth.
