Visiting family in Llantrisant and called in to the Pick on our way back to Cardiff. Was quiet when we called in for a glass of wine but soon started to get busier. Been here before but atmosphere wasn’t that great then. Things seem to be much better, unsure if new management in but place feels much more comfortable now. Have recommended it to my family as their new local.

Had the warmest welcome off Cathy . She helped me no end as I was stuck outside because my car had broken down . Would highly recommend the toastie . Thanks once again Cathy x

Had an amazing chicken curry on Friday so fresh and tasty the lady cath was so polite and attention to detail I will definitely be go again

My family and I popped in here when we were just passing through and wanted a Sunday lunch and it had to be somewhere that allowed dogs. Well we stumbled upon a gem of a pub that treated our dogs better than some places treat their customers. The Sunday lunch was amazing as was the deserts. Great service, great atmosphere, great food and great value. We highly recommend.

Where to begin, what a splendid day out it was at the Pick and Shovel, loved every second of it. Was lucky enough to experience the taste of their Pepsi Max, which I must say is by far the best in Wales, so England have some competition. Even had the choice of ice or no ice, can you believe it? Then took centre stage in front of the dart board, hit Gerwyn a couple of times but eventually hit double one after 20 minutes. When I finally got it, the place erupted. Was like being at St James’ Park, the atmosphere was electric. Felt that the decor was very warm and welcoming to everyone, no matter what part of the world you’re from. This is thanks to their collection of flags! A pint too many and you’ll think you’re meeting with leaders of the commonwealth. Felt so well looked after in there, will definitely be back!!

Just what we needed, a great breakfast before we hit Pen Y Fan. Generous portions all delicious and cooked to order, served with a friendly smile. Thank you Cath and Paul

Daniel and Cath made my visit welcoming. The guiness was really good and the food smells amazing. Will definitely return with my other half. Well decorated. Spacious and great background music.

Went there Saturday the 6th April at 8 o'clock had a brilliant night the Irish man behind bar was great and the lady behind bar was great.had lots of banter and laughs with them .The service they provided was exceptional and the price was reasonable. Will definitely be going back when in the area.

Food are very delicious specially veg curry and the vibe of that place very positive service is fabulous and the staff is very cooperative.

The red vegetarian curry is really scrumptious that is literally mouth watering dish also I really love the atmosphere of that place .. according to me this place definitely deserves 5 stars

Great staff behind the bar! They made a real effort on a quiet bank holiday evening Always loved the pick and shovel and the place seems to somehow get better more and more, refurbished and made more of a cosy pub feel but prices haven’t altered much

I went in to see the live band lastnight which I got told was good but the4e was children in there after 9 at night I told the two twins behind the bar that children shouldn't be at this time but they didn't care one bit at all so I just walked out and I wouldn't even let my children run around the pub at all especially at that time of night

I went in there to see a band.it was good until i seen 2 kids running around the pub at 9:15pm i thought the kids got to be out at 9:00pm won't happy there were dirty glasses there it seem the 2 twin boys behind the bar didn't care.wont happy very this digusted because the 2 twin were very rude not going ever again it disgusted me

First time here for a Sunday roast and it was delicious the food was outstanding and the gravey had so much flavour and was the best gravey I ever had,I will be going back for dinner again would recommend to go it was nice atmosphere and staff are friendly especially the chef what a lovely woman

Lovely staff, brilliant craic staff will listen to any problems you may have and help out where can. Lovely food and a great drink selection is available would recommend to anyone who is in the area or whoever is passing by. Brilliant Pub and will 100% be back

Brilliant pub, very friendly staff great laugh. Good pints 👍. Football always on aswell as rugby and other sports. Uni students will enjoy the pub aswell as locals.

A group of us meet up once a month. The food yesterday was outstanding with freshly made cottage pie and freshly made chilli our choice of meals. Delicious and more than enough for a late lunch. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We popped in for a drink, but I heard about the homemade cottage pie and thought I'd give it a try. Really generous portion, tasted fabulous and good value. Service was friendly and quick.

I come here once a month for the Pontypridd Armed Forces Breakfast Club. There's always a warm welcome from Maria and Jeff, the food is always great, and the pub is always clean and tidy. A little gem in the local area.

The pub is lovely always welcoming and warm as are the staff. There is a good variety of things to do such as a fantastic pool table and dart board. The bar is resonable prices as is the food. Would 100% reccomend this pub if you are in pontypridd.

Great food and a really friendly atmosphere. Just had a breakfast and it was great really good price and a great portion size,well worth the money.( All the food here is great and very reasonably priced) They have all the big matches on well worth a visit

Don’t bother going there for a swig with the lads unless you have your old girl on speed dial and she can lend you money for a few, mental price for a pint! I seen my mate trying to pour his own sharp one behind the bar and it was so expensive the bird serving even let him do it

A warm welcome awaits you at this lovely, friendly pub. Maria is lovely, we took our dogs in and she fetched water and a little bit of meat from the Sunday roast for them, this was our first visit. We are new to the area and were made to feel right at home. Thanks to all staff and customers at Pick and Shovel.

Really welcoming. My brother was boxing and they were happy to put it on for me. The Irish guy even took interest too. Will definitely pop in for a pint every now and again.

Can't comment on the food because I didn't eat there, but the general atmosphere and cleanliness of the place was great. Had a pint or two and the service, as well as the pints were spot on

One of the best places tobe, all down to the bar service and the very warm welcome they give, always very friendly and the place is always looking great. Here for a wake, not alot of filling in the sandwiches but everything else was good. Staff lovely, beautifully decorated for Christmas.

The food was lovely, upon arrival we were told we were booked for 3pm when the messages through the Facebook page clearly state 3.30pm. We were also told when to pay our bill where usually its the customer who asks for the bill so we thought that was a bit ubrubpt.

Great atmosphere in this bar and excellent entertainment. Shame about the bad attitudes of the bar staff.

This pub has been transformed in the last year to a much better place. The atmosphere is fantastic warm and welcoming. Maria has made this pub a place to wanttp come and have a pint. Cath is fantastic for the banter and the food I have eaten here has been nothing but delicious. I would definitely recommend this pub and will be calling in again

I must say came in Saturday 18 November had a lovely ham egg and chips the lady who bought me my food was so polite so I decided to go in Sunday for dinner and wow the beef was outstanding and the veg was class and the service was excellent the and the chef was so polite and the young girl made sure I had everything I needed..I will definitely be back

Fantastic place,very nice services, the owners and staff are very welcoming especially to people like me from Africa, no form of discrimination they will make you feel comfortable, I go there to watch football in a place full of rugby fans but they always allow us watch and I shoot pool with good players,a lovely place to be

Came to the Pick and Shovel with another. We came to watch the rugby and have some food. The kitchen had just closed when they reopened it just for us. Decent loaded fries, salt&chilli wings, drinks and a few other bits. Well priced. Great service. Lots of screens for sport.

The Sunday dinners in here are absolutely Banging everything cooked lovely and piping hot 👏🏼👏🏼👌👌

A big group of us were on a walking weekend and stayed nearby. Maria was happy to accommodate us and sorted a preorder. Once we arrived we were immediately greeted by the friendly owners and asked if the table arrangements suited us. We were also asked when we would like our food to start being prepared. Food was excellent and the team coped well catering for such a large group with everybody’s needs met perfectly. Owners and staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Will be sure to return if we ever visit the area again.

Just had a lamb roast and it was superb. Friendly service and atmosphere and the food was piping hot. Will certainly be returning 😋

The food here is top quality, second to none. Have had Sunday lunch on many occasions. The beer is crisp and clean. Lovely Staff, always a warm welcome. If you’re new in town the locals are a great bunch and will always make you very welcome.

Was at the pick and shovel for the first international rugby match 3 weeks ago and have been back regular since. The food there is of the highest order, the staff are so welcoming and the the atmosphere is amazing. Full of friendly people and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there.

Piping hot and excellent Sunday lunch. Would highly recommend.

Popped for a few drinks and a meal. The inside has some really cosy seating available and it feels like you haven't left home. The outside area is lush, spent all of my time out there drinking and eating - I ordered the veggie burger & paprika fries and loved it so much I ordered a second. I requested the onion rings to be made with red onion instead and the chef was more than happy to oblige. The staff were great and friendly and the atmosphere was fantastic. I'll definitely be popping in again when I'm next up that way

10/10 spectacular pub, the new owners are absolutely delightful along with all the staff. They have ripped it apart and redecorated it and brought life to it. Even including a menu of delicious delights to pick from! Highly recommend and great prices.

I have a takeaway meal everyday from here because the food is so good and great value. I feel well looked after when I’m there as the staff are welcoming and the pub has a friendly atmosphere, and I’m well fed! Great variety on the menu so plenty of choice.

Literally the most nicest pub in ponty and Treforest! The inside is so welcoming and homely, really cheap prices and kid friendly! They have the most nicest tasting cocktails around for a couple of miles. I go here as often as possible! Would defo recommend a try! Xx
