The Crawfordsburn Old Inn and the 1614 bar looking stunning in full xmas dress and wrappings !! We had a lovely lunch and the quality of service and laid back style of all and every thing is quite unique .The atmosphere in the Old inn 1614 bar with the log fires burning and the cosy vibe are very very special . a credit to all.. We recently went to The Old Inn for drinks and dinner and it was amazing. The staff, the new bar and the cocktails were amazing, especially the French martinis. Would like to mention Charlotte, she was very attentive and ensured everything was going well. We will definitely be back, wonderful to see the old inn busy, it’s exactly what was needed.

We went there with a friend for a Sunday drink with a couple of sandwiches. Wine and food were ok. What stunned me though was the decor. This pub is absolutely gorgeous and is certainly worth a visit for any traveler nearby.

I sent the email below but never received a reply. Very poor management and service staffFAO General ManagerDear Sir/MadamI feel I need to write to you to inform you of our experience this evening while dining in the Old Inn. One that we will not forget. We have been coming together as an immediate family to celebrate various events and used the Old Inn on each occasion. This evening my sons came from London and Lyon to celebrate our Christmas get together. Sadly the Old Inn did not perform. From the start of taking drinks orders to the last meal order there were numerous mistakes and unfortunately sub standard food. Drinks were wrong, home made veg soup was served with ‘home made focaccia bread’!, which was chilled just out of the fridge and was awful. What happened to wheaten or plain rolls had you run out. No one serves ‘focaccia bread with tomato on top’ with veg soup! The mains while good, chilli chicken very nice but fillet steaks poor. Triple cooked chips lacked ‘cooking’ and were not Triple Cooked and some very hard. They were awful. We asked for veg to be served instead of chips for one order but they forgot and then we got virtually raw parsnip and carrot - unbelievable for the Old Inn. We did not dare to have dessert or coffee and left early.I will leave it there as the rest of the issues were not as important but suffice to say we will not be rushing back. It’s a shame as our previous experience had been so good. YoursTom RichardsonBooked 5.30 Sunday 22nd December

I live 2 minutes walk from this place so you would think that I would be here regularly. Each time I bring the family in the hope that this time it may be different it never fails to be nothing less than horrendous. After being given a table you will be ignored as it seems like no staff are assigned tables to work. They just wander aimlessly around, with seemingly no-one in charge. Without fail you will need to go in search of someone every time you want a menu/drink/order food. The food is reasonable but not worth the money.Quite how these people manage to run weddings is utterly beyond me.

Went today for lunch. The last time I had been there it was called The Courtyard. We went inside and sat down and waited for 15 minutes before we readised that you had to go up to the counter to order. No one approached us at all. I ordered Gluten Free French Toast with bacon. When the meal arrived it was all burnt but the worst thing I had ever seen was the fact that I had been served two HEELS of bread. When I complained, the manager told me that the chef (who I believe was the owner) informed her that because Gluten Free Bread was so expensive he therefore had to use all of it!!!! I told her that in all the years since I was diagnosed as coeliac I had never been served HEELS of bread. A loaf is £2.90 and the lunch cost nearly £7 so there was absolutely no excuse. Apparently they were very busy! They were NOT busy. Only about 3 other tables had people sitting at them. We will NEVER be back. I did complain and I received a Refund.

The Old Inn at Crawfordsburn is somewhere over many years I have always had a bit of a love/hate relationship but today was a new low. Really poor cooking and produce especially so given the limited set lunch menu. the prawn cocktail was devoid of any flavour, the beef with Yorkshire pudding was completely awful, there was more fat than meat and the pudding was horribly dried out. Will not be going back which is a shame because it could be so good . Our complaints fell on deaf ears with a surly comment from the waitress that she would advise the chef. No tip from me for the first time since I can remember.

My third review in 2 years. Why do I bother? Because this place is fundamentally nice with the potential to be great but it just doesn’t seem to be able to crack the main elements all at once: service, food and price. I’ve had poor experience with very inattentive staff here on my previous experiences; this time the attention was better so that’s good. However, the portion sizes remain an issue. I commented last time on how miniscule my tart was. This time, my squid starter was insultingly paltry: four very small, thin rings of calamari atop a stack of green leaves served in a tiny dish to create impression of volume. I was contemplating complaining (it tasted lovely) when without my asking the waitress brought me another helping of it, saying she’d been embarrassed at it when she gave it to me. Come on...if your own waiters are embarrassed...! My main was really small also but I couldn’t bear to give this waitress a hard time. If the prices were small one would live with it but this place claims to be one of Ireland’s top venues: pull your socks up and stop being so complacent!

We have had several excellent relaxing bar lunches in the Inn’s comfortable lounge bar with its lovely atmosphere and professional and friendly service. The chef offers an innovative choice of dishes on the bar menu. While the Inn is very popular as a wedding venue, and hence the small car park can be very busy over lunchtimes, the weddings themselves have not ‘interfered’ with the lunch clientele or the service provided when we have been there.

I visited the Crawfordsburn Inn for lunch only, and was surprised that there was no information on the menu about allergies or intolerances.1% of the UK population suffers coeliac disease, but no gluten free alternatives were on offer. As I suffer from a range of intolerances, the only single item on the menu I could eat was a prawn cocktail without the wheaten bread. No alternative to wheaten bread was offered, and no reduction in price was given for not having the wheaten bread.I didn't bother asking for a dessert menu.Left feeling hungry.Very expensive for a very small portion of prawns in cocktail sauce. I won't be back, and cannot recommend this restaurant for anyone with food intolerances.

Okay it looks beautiful and the interior has lots of charm but it's standard of service and value for money let it down. On Monday 27 July 15, my wife and I went for a bar snack in the Parlour Bar. It was only 50% occupied but we had to wait at least 10 minutes before anyone approached us with menus. Even then we were not given a welcome. I said that I thought they had forgotten about us only to be told by the young female waitress that someone else should have been looking after the tables in the section in which we were seated. Not my problem, all I wanted was to be served. During our 10 minute wait we noticed a different waitress having a tiff with the barman. Relations were definitely strained and her face was a picture of unhappiness. My wife ordered from the specials menu (only 3 main choices, no starter choice). She had chicken curry and then the only sweet on the menu - pecan pie. Too bad if you didn't like or were allergic to nuts there was no other alternative! We also heard one of the waitresses telling a customer 50 minutes after the specials menu became valid that the chicken curry was finished, leaving only a vegetarian and a fish course. I ordered a prawn open from the main menu, which at £10 was mean in the extreme. Granted there were 2 slices of wheaten bread, but the rest was salad with a few prawns sprinkled on top of a mound of lettuce to make it look good. I had had a prawn open in a golf club 3 days before and it was at least 3 times the size and cost £7.50. During the main course we notices the same waitress having another confrontation with the same barman and it spoiled our feelings about the place. Also no one came back to our table during our meal to ask if everything was okay with our meal. When I went up to the bar to pay with the "Old Inn" Credit Card type voucher we had received as a gift, the barman who tried to process it promptly told me in front of 2 other people standing at the bar that my voucher was "coming up as invalid". I showed him the paperwork and he tried again, muttering something about the magnetic strips on the cards often giving trouble. He input the details manually and was successful. Perhaps he should have tried this before announcing that my card was invalid in front of others as I felt embarrassed. Only that we still have some money left on the card we definitely would not be back. Finally he gave us a comment card to fill in, but no pen to do it with, so we though it would be better to put it all on Trip Advisor.

My wife and I just simply called in for a single drink. We were so disappointed I wanted a bottle of Bud I was informed they don't stock this hugely popular beer so I had a cola (bummer) my wife wanted a Chardonnay and received a glass of what was obviously house white as it didn't have a label on the bottle so we finished our drink in minutes And left after paying £7.10 for in her opinion a glass of house white we won't be back Maybe they have started to believe their own hype

Having had a lovely lunch today in the Parlour we decided it really deserved a good review. Imagine how amazed we were to see a previous review where they had exactly the dishes as my wife and I and yet had the opposite opinion to ourselves. My wife had the Chilli chicken which she thought was nicely spiced, properly cooked and well presented. The coleslaw was homemade and nicely flavoured. I had the minute steak cooked medium and it was tender and had good flavour. We were happy with the portions. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Either things have improved or we see things different, and we are not easily pleased. t

Very limited menu choice, what there was was nothing special. Minute steak open sandwich was a very very small minute steak on a slice of white bread with crispy onions & a small number of chips. The chilli chicken, once our favourite, now seems more like dried shop brought chicken, not great at all. All 3 elements of this dish were not well executed and were unpalatable. The best we can say is that the chips were 'fine'.Sadly disappointed, not great value for £36 for 2 adult main courses & 1 child & did not include drinks. Much nicer can be found in local area & at better value. They do have a special menu called sizzler which offers 3 very small & simple main courses, a fixed dessert & a glass of wine. We didn't order off this menu as the limited choices were not appealing to us. Service was pleasant, if not as attentive as it could have been.Overall: Must try harder!

I should begin by saying that, in the past, I have thoroughly enjoyed my visits to the Crawfordsburn Inn but was bitterly disappointed at our most recent. Being a Friday night, my husband and I decided to arrange for a babysitter and enjoy an evening out. I booked a table in the bar in the hope of having a main course (fish and chips, burger). However, when we arrived we were handed a menu and faced with an array of choices. We were disappointed to note that despite fish and chips and a burger being on the menu, they are only served until 7pm on a Friday evening. We were further disappointed when we asked about the possibility of having fish and chips. Our waitress (who went off to enquire) came back and explained we could not. Ten minutes later, having decided that we would not eat (and return home), a neighbouring table asked their waitress the same question and were told that they could have fish and chips. The meal choices that were available to us were the same as the food being offered in the Lewis restaurant but I would have thought that, as the hotel promotes both the restaurant and the Parlour bar, they should be offering different menus to differentiate between the two. I know that there is only one kitchen but for a country eating establishment, they should be attracting those that want a relaxing meal in the bar, as well as those who want a more formal dining experience. All we wanted was a main course and a few drinks to finish off the working week, yet we are now at home having had a glass of water and a pint of beer. Despite there being four managers/owners on the floor this evening, not one of them was aware that we had decided not to dine.My biggest concern is the fact that the menu we were given had all the meal choices for the whole day. I have never been in a restaurant where I have been shown choices that I cannot have. This only portrays a very traditional way of thinking and although the owners are maybe hoping to attract the traditional diner, we are a young, professional family who enjoy dining out and know that many similar people like to relax and enjoy a meal out at the weekend. Surely the management of the hotel/restaurant should be capturing these diners and providing a more up-to-date, fashionable dining experience. I am not saying that they should modernise the hotel, it is an amazing building and the bar has a very appealing atmosphere in which we would have spent time, this evening, relaxing. Unfortunately, having set ourselves up for a Friday night out, we are now at home, having relinquished the babysitter, and about to have a M&S 'Dine in for Two' steak and chips. Never before have we gone out for dinner, only to get up and leave before placing an order. To say we are extremely disappointed is an understatement.

Popped in to buy a take out scone. There were only 3 left & the server said they were waiting on more coming in. I asked for a raisin & also asked if they were ‘bought in’ & she said no they’re made by the chef on the premises. But she just told me they were waiting on more coming in??? Perhaps it was the wrong choice of words ?? Anyway the scone may as well have been ‘plain’ there was 1 raisin in it, yes 1!!! Plus it was very dry. I prefer scones ‘home made’ perhaps this was, but certainly didn’t taste like it.

Beautiful inn facing the sea with an incredible view and a cozy Pub-type restaurant. Ideal for families since for each adult maximum two, they give away the Kids menu that is super well served and with fresh products. Burgers and fried fish, calamari highly recommended. For 4 adults and 1 child with beer, we spent only 63 euros.
