The Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff

The Parkgate is located right in the centre of Cardiff so good access to local restaurants etc. But no parking and awkward to get to on foot or via public transport. For a luxury spa hotel they are not very generous with their services and require prebooking and additional payment for every aspect of the stay apart from the gym (only for hotel guests). There is no pool aside from the spa. The standard queen room was surprisingly spacious and clean with a luxury feel. There are robes and slippers provided for use at the spa. No fridge or mini bar in the room, just a slightly scruffy kettle and bottled spring water. Overall a nice hotel, but very few complimentary services.

Had a great spa day with lunch yesterday. Fabulous service from Allison Monica and Courtney in the Spa who were so helpful they couldn't do enough fir us. So relaxing in pool and sauna and a lovely prosecco. Followed by a stunning 2 course lunch in tge restaurant. Highly recommend.

We had the best time at the Parkgate. We were given a complimentary upgrade as it was my partner’s 30th birthday which was a lovely way to start our stay. We then had a Bubbles and Afternoon tea package at the spa and Monica was really lovely in looking after us. There was a slight problem with our locker which was fixed very quickly but Monica made sure we were well looked after while waiting for the quick fix! A great experience throughout!

A Perfect Anniversary Dinner We had the most wonderful evening at The Sorting Room in Cardiff — the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The chorizo and hummus starter was absolutely amazing — so full of flavor and beautifully presented. The rump steak was cooked to perfection, tender and delicious. Every bite was a delight. A special mention to Mo, our waiter, who was fantastic — warm, attentive, and made sure everything was just right. He really added to the experience. The atmosphere was elegant and relaxed, and the whole evening felt so special. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate.

Nice hotel, didn't stay the night, just a business meeting.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Parkgate Hotel, and we are delighted to share our positive experience. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the quality of drinks and food, both of which were outstanding. Upon entering our room, we encountered a minor issue; however, we were pleasantly surprised by the swift response from the hotel staff. By the time I returned to the room, the maintenance team had already addressed our concern and we were offered a prompt room change, accompanied by sincere apologies. The overall service was exceptional, and we were fortunate to be assisted by Richard at reception, whose professionalism and attention to detail stood out. It is worth noting that every member of the hotel team was welcoming and hospitable, contributing to our wonderful stay. Given our positive experience, should we need accommodation in Cardiff again, we will undoubtedly return to the hotel.

I’m still here at the moment will be checking out in the morning 22nd Feb 25 what a terrible hotel Where do I start Booked the Saturday £570 then decided because we where traveling a long way we will stay the Fri so we will have no problem going to the game rugby ire v wales Fri £280 Today the room to stay tonight £370 a little annoying We paid for breakfast on both mornings We sent back breakfast this morn as it was cold and I mean cold I actually bit into a bit of bacon and it was reheated and cold We rang and the lovely girl who delivered said and I quote I can reheat it for you Now I understand this weekend with the rugby on would be busy But this is no better that a normal hotel Premier inn at best Yes great because it’s beside the the ground but that’s all Not happy Will never stay again

Great couple of days away with the family. Room, food and service is excellent as always, I stay here on a weekly basic for work. This is the best hotel in Cardiff

Amazing room and facilities. Incredible breakfast. Unsure why it is 4* and not 5*. We also got a welcome gift for our son and staff were very friendly. The spa was amazing and very good value.

Lovely hotel and room - didn’t manage to get a space in the spa, which was a shame - would have been good to make the need for pre-booking clearer when booking our room. Breakfast was good but only one (very slow) coffee machine available with a large queue - a cafetière would have been much better.

I recently stayed at The Parkgate for my birthday. There was an error with the booking so despite arriving fairly early and being in a decent space in the queue for check in I had to wait until until my husband arrived after he had parked the car. This meant we were seen some 40minutes and the booking was retrieved. For some reason the booking agent had used surname as first name?! Anyway after a tense wait thinking we didn't have a booking we were allocated room 514. We were not told on check in this was an Accessible room so found out when we went in. This wasn't an issue until we used the shower. The bathroom floor flooded and this did not go even on departure. So if you wanted to use the bathroom during the night your feet got soaked. We were knew there was no point complaining that evening as they were fully booked so would not have been able to move us. For what we paid this was not what I would expect, it's dangerous needs to be dealt with. Breakfast was delicious, a good selection of food and alternatives if you have food intolerances or following a particular eating plan. Staff were friendly and polite in the restaurant. On check out we raised the issue with the room and the lady that dealt with us listened and advised what we could do in the future if we were going to stay again. Later that evening when I was home I realised I had left my phone cable in the room. I called the hotel and spoke to Lara. This member of staff went above and beyond to find my cable. Her shift was about to finish but regardless of that she made a point of going down to the basement to check list property and retrieved my item. I was so grateful and so impressed by her attitude to help. She really turned my opinion around in terms of staying again. She is an asset to your hotel and please make sure this feedback is passed to her as it really was exceptional.

Had Afternoon tea 8/2/25. Really enjoyed the visit. Loved the hotel. It's nice to see that there's an option for a great looking hotel in Cardiff. Would like to mention staff from the kitchen as they made sure we had sandwiches which were suitable for are needs. Special thanks to Giovanna who was very friendly and gave good service.

The post rooms is an amazing restaurant, we've gone twice now for Christmas day and Valentine's and both times amazing food, great service and I really appreciated the live music. Highly recommended!

The venue and surroundings are stunning! Giovanna our host was absolutely fabulous, providing a first class service in a professional way. Italian by birth who knows the ins and outs of Welsh rugby better than me! She was very attentive to us and everyone around us always with a very natural smile. Stunning hotel in central Cardiff, very near the stadium - which was not part of our visit. Absolutely will be back - the only truly bizarre element of the stay was the £40 pp for 90 min pool charge. Surely there must be a better strategy as even the staff seemed rather embarrassed about this.

We recently stayed at The Parkgate Hotel for a special birthday treat and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The hotel is stunning, with beautiful decor and a relaxing atmosphere. We especially loved the spa – it was the perfect way to unwind. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We were so touched by the thoughtful birthday surprises waiting for us in the room – a box of delicious macarons and a personalized card from the team. As if that wasn’t enough, we were delighted when a bottle of prosecco was delivered to our room shortly after. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay. Every detail was carefully considered, and we left feeling truly spoiled. Highly recommend!

I stayed here for two nights for work and I had a great time. Courteous and helpful staff, very comfortable bed, comfortable and comfortable room throughout. I had dinner at the restaurant, excellent food and interesting choices. International breakfast with a wide choice. Central location very convenient for getting around on foot. I would stay here again and recommend it!

Best place to stay in Cardiff we've found so far. Looks great inside, nice quiet rooms right next to the principality stadium for gigs and shopping in the city. Gym included with options for Spa and the restaurant.

I stayed here for my wedding anniversary on the 18 January. Our room overlooked The Principality Stadium and the Arms Park. In the room was a selection of Macarons and some water. The bed is very comfy! The bathroom has a great walk in shower with the usual stuff that you expect in a hotel. I had paid for the prestige package which meant that we had bottomless prosecco, wine, cocktails, cider. You also get a small selection of canapés which were very tasty just wish I had more. I should say our server Chloe was absolutely brilliant!!!! We had room service for breakfast which I ordered through the Celtic manor app and was very expensive considering it was a few pastries and muffins. The hotel reception is tucked away and feels odd / out of place and not very welcoming so we used the express check out.

The location was ideal and close to the train station, the breakfast was great and the staff very friendly.

We came to the Sorting Room for an evening meal, and were looked after by Mo. Mo made sure we felt welcomed and had everything we needed. The wellington and pork belly dishes were insane, and were so flavourful. Mo wished myself a happy birthday and provided a complimentary dish and cocktail to make the meal special.

Don't go to this place expecting good service. No parking, got food poisoning from the restaurant and even after being promised a refund for my dinner that night, never got one. Stayed here in Sep 2024. Followed up by phone several times and only after writing a google review 2 months later because I was tired of chasing them, did I get a response. Of course, it was a public response over google so everyone could see that they responded. Once I reached out directly (as they asked me to do), taking it offline it took many attempts to get 1 single response and even then my refund request was not addressed, acknowledged nor processed. I guess this hotel really needs the money more than I do. Wow. Terrible service. BEWARE!!!

We spent our anniversary and Alicia and the rest of the reception team made our stay one to remember. Mo from the Sorting Room was also outstanding and very attentive, all round an extremely amazing experience and we will definitely come back.

I cannot recommend this beautiful place enough. I called early today and Emily was so helpful and lovely on the phone. When I arrived, Monica was speedy to introduce me to the Prosecco and show me around and how to use the facilities. The actual spa is unbelievable. It’s bougie, clean and so peaceful I basically walked out of there sleeping it was exactly what I needed- I was pleasantly surprised that the robe and slippers were included in the Twilight deal. I even prefer this over Bath Therme Spa because it was quiet, all kept together and only a limited amount of people at a time. It is modern and looks over the principality stadium. Monica then sold me a few gorgeous Elemis products- she was the loveliest lady and I’ll be back in no time so say hello again. Thank you Parkgate Hotel & Spa.

Everything about this hotel was amazing, would definitely go again. Our room was 10/10 and reception staff were excellent. However, breakfast was chaos. So slow and you’ll have people barging into queues if you’re waiting for food to be served at the buffet.

Lovely stay. Very peaceful considering how central the location is. Staff are lovely and so helpful. Particular shout out to Tarzina who helped me at breakfast. I have disabilities and use a rollator so a self service breakfast was always going to be tricky. She went out of her way to help and could not have been more attentive and helpful. So appreciated and very impressive.

Lovely hotel and in a great location. Visited for 40th birthday and disappointed that the Parkgate didn't make it a special stay. Only offered extras that were to be paid for and were very expensive.

I thought the room was small for a superior queen my friend had a single room which was more rectangular and spacious with a better outlook.I felt some slippers would have been useful with a marble floor in bathroom which only had a shower. To reach the safe was impossible unless you were 6 ft tall i am 5 ft. The towel rail was also too high for me. We only had 1 hot chocolate between us. We were disappointed with the room . The food was excellent and staff lovely particularly Ryan.

The food is ordinary, but the people, location and everything is lovely. Raven is the best waitress I met.

No car parking is awkward, so okay if you go by train. We were a large group booking and everyone who had to drive had a nightmare finding a car park. Staff were phenomenal. My room was opposite very noisy bars. I couldn't find the kettle or teabags. Someone told me that they were in the wardrobe after I'd already checked out. It was the only place I hadn't looked. I'd have loved a long soak, but I only had a shower room. Very clean. Breakfast was good and the staff on service were very helpful.

Same old greedy corporate experience from Celtic. I've stayed at various Celtic Collection locations over the years. 20 years ago, the personal service you received made me all too glad to pay for the way we were looked after but you can see the culture shift. Everything is for money and service comes 2nd. Parkgate itself was clean, comfortable and the staff very helpful during our stay. However if you try contacting them with an enquiry AFTER they have your money, good luck. The phone just rings and rings and rings. I've emailed them to ask them why they have taken more from my account than the invoice. Lets hope I get a timely reply. Would much rather have been able to do this on the phone however. Don't worry though, if you're calling to book/buy you'll get someone immediately. I'm done with Celtic. You won't be getting any more of my money. The magic has been lost.

Such a shame. Rooms were excellent and location perfect. Staff were fantastic.....apart from the bar staff. I went to the bar about 10.30pm and my wife took a seat at a table to wait for our drinks. There were 3 people ahead of me at the bar so I expected to wait. I was finally served 30 minutes later. I was never acknowledged, apologised to for the wait or even smiled at. I asked what rums they had and she pointed over her shoulder to an area of the shelves and said "those there." They weren't great at all so I asked for a gin and slimline tonic. She poured the gin and then told me they only had flavoured tonic, and she recommended the grapefruit tonic (which didn't work at all with the particular gin). We would have had a few in the bar whilst relaxing at the end of a busy day shopping and watching rugby. Instead we left with a sour taste in our mouth (literally after the grapefruit tonic). I am afraid it did taint our stay overall. Such a shame and so avoidable. Stock the bar better, stop taking 10 minutes to make one cocktail, stop acting like you're above the people you're serving and try being friendly and human to your guests. I run a bar myself and I would be out of business with an attitude like that. Zero bar management and it wasn't even busy.

We were at cocktail party food was terrible such a shame. Soup was nice mail meal awful processed meat very salty ! Half a carrot and raw potato it just wasn’t cooked ! Pudding very rich too ! Didn’t eat much at all ! Just soup ! Very sad for such a lovely hotel ! DJ excellent rooms lovely shower amazing ! Just paid £60 for party wasn’t drinking and ate soup ! Nice stay though !

We stayed in the park Gate hotel, had a spa treatment and afternoon tea and I must say it way an amazing experience. The service provided by Massimilano in the afternoon tea was impeccable, I honestly couldn’t fault it and recommend highly to anyone!

A lovely hotel, and fantastic staff. Overall a luxurious experience and although a few minor things occurred (listed below) I would strongly recommend. The first thing I would change is there was a long queue for the coffee machine at breakfast, which I thought could have been easily solved by using a couple of new machines. Secondly, I would have liked the thermal spa (which cost over £100 for two) to be private for the 1H30m. It is an intimate space and one of the buttons for the bubbles weren't working so the other couple that were there at the same time stayed on the working side. I wouldn't have bought this package if I had known it wouldn't be private, so that was disappointing. The space and steam rooms themselves were nice refreshing. The superior rooms were stunning, spacious and comfortable. There were no slippers provided, but staff promptly provided them, which leads me to say, the staff were very helpful in the spa, hotel and restaurant. While having dinner at the restaurant my wife was given a complementary drink and dessert (for her birthday) which was a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend this hotel, but be aware the thermal spa is shared (or at least it was when we were there)

Recently visited the spa at The Parkgate and had Lucy provide me with the Elemis Head to Toe Glow Enzyme Treatment. It was absolutely divine! Everything was perfect and she made sure I was super comfortable. Would definitely recommend Lucy and this treatment!

I went out for my partner and I 4th anniversary and we had a really good service for our meal. Our server was Mo and he was polite, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We even had complimentary drinks and desert along with our meal. Highly recommended and will be back here soon!

Stayed here the other night, room was lovely and the staff were also very professional and friendly. We spent our night in the Bar area which was incredible, Oli who served us was so friendly and nothing was ever a problem. Excellent stay!!

We stayed in superior suite room, it is awesome. Very clean and spacious, definitely more than our expectations! I would definitely recommend it for families.

Lovely hotel beautiful rooms and comfortable bed all tovz high standard. Staff friendly and helpful. Only 4 stara because the booking process on linexwad difficult and then when phoning in subsequently also difficult. 3rd attempt rerouted to celtic Manor Hq switchboard, who couldn't answer all my questions. Then, days prior to arrival, I was bombarded with emails urging me to check in online, which I then discovered required an app to be downloaded which initially did not work smoothly, not accepting the code I had been sent . it then sent me an electronic door key. Maybe I'm old fashioned but for a premier hotel I do expect real people to meet the guests checking in and out. ( we did go to the desk anyway for a room keycard, for the lights to work)

We had the 3 course lunch in the Sorting Room. All the food was gorgeous and the attentive service from Massimiliano made my mother's birthday particularly special. Would definitely recommend.

We are regular visitors to this hotel, we always have fantastic service - especially Ryan, the Front of House Manager who has helped us on a number of occasions. We always eat at the Sorting Room Restaurant at the Hotel. Although there are many options in Cardiff, there is nowhere better than the hotel restaurant. Kaspars and Kim are fantastic supervisors of the restaurant. If you dine here, see if you can be in Masmiliano’s section. He is an outstanding waiter who is always attentive. All these staff have great humour too which is an added bonus.

Amazing service at dinner time. I went with my boyfriend as a birthday celebration and we were served by Massimilian and he was brilliant. He was so friendly and funny, and gave me a birthday cocktail, and a small dessert (which were both delicious). Mo served us the food and didn't leave until everything was declared perfect. Would definitely come again!

We stayed at the Parkgate last Saturday and had a mixed experience. We had room 242, it cost £315 for the night + breakfast. The room was good, very large with a separate lounge with sofa. The bathroom was great (the toilet flush fixture was loose) . The sound insulation of the bedroom was terrible. We could hear everything happening on the street outside from late night / early morning drunks to heavy traffic and sirens all through the night. This, combined with a very firm mattress, unsupportive pillows and air con that stopped every hour led to a terrible night's sleep. Breakfast is mediocre. In my opinion, a 4 star hotel breakfast should be cooked to order and not a buffet. I also begrudge queuing for a substandard coffee machine coffee when I've paid so much for the night. Other 4 stars I've stayed at give you a cafetiere. Staff were friendly and professional. On check out, nobody asked us how our stay was, I probably wouldn't have written this if they did. The location of the hotel itself is brilliant, it's great for exploring Cardiff, it's a stones throw from the train station and the stadium. St Mary's street is 2 minutes walk. The rooms overlooking the street are at the mercy of the Cardiff nightlife. We probably won't stay at the Parkgate again and if we did, we'd insist on a room not facing the street.

After traveling for hours, my husband and I finally settled in our room on the first floor. I went to take a shower and in the shower I was welcomed by 5 mini flies. I called reception and informed them and requested to switch rooms. They were “all booked up” but sent maintenance. I showed him the pictures AND VIDEO. he said we can’t stay there that he would talk to management. No one ever called and helped us out. Thank god we were only in there for one night.
