A lovely hotel, and fantastic staff. Overall a luxurious experience and although a few minor things occurred (listed below) I would strongly recommend. The first thing I would change is there was a long queue for the coffee machine at breakfast, which I thought could have been easily solved by using a couple of new machines. Secondly, I would have liked the thermal spa (which cost over £100 for two) to be private for the 1H30m. It is an intimate space and one of the buttons for the bubbles weren't working so the other couple that were there at the same time stayed on the working side. I wouldn't have bought this package if I had known it wouldn't be private, so that was disappointing. The space and steam rooms themselves were nice refreshing. The superior rooms were stunning, spacious and comfortable. There were no slippers provided, but staff promptly provided them, which leads me to say, the staff were very helpful in the spa, hotel and restaurant. While having dinner at the restaurant my wife was given a complementary drink and dessert (for her birthday) which was a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend this hotel, but be aware the thermal spa is shared (or at least it was when we were there)

Lovely hotel beautiful rooms and comfortable bed all tovz high standard. Staff friendly and helpful. Only 4 stara because the booking process on linexwad difficult and then when phoning in subsequently also difficult. 3rd attempt rerouted to celtic Manor Hq switchboard, who couldn't answer all my questions. Then, days prior to arrival, I was bombarded with emails urging me to check in online, which I then discovered required an app to be downloaded which initially did not work smoothly, not accepting the code I had been sent . it then sent me an electronic door key. Maybe I'm old fashioned but for a premier hotel I do expect real people to meet the guests checking in and out. ( we did go to the desk anyway for a room keycard, for the lights to work)

We are regular visitors to this hotel, we always have fantastic service - especially Ryan, the Front of House Manager who has helped us on a number of occasions. We always eat at the Sorting Room Restaurant at the Hotel. Although there are many options in Cardiff, there is nowhere better than the hotel restaurant. Kaspars and Kim are fantastic supervisors of the restaurant. If you dine here, see if you can be in Masmiliano’s section. He is an outstanding waiter who is always attentive. All these staff have great humour too which is an added bonus.

We stayed at the Parkgate last Saturday and had a mixed experience. We had room 242, it cost £315 for the night + breakfast. The room was good, very large with a separate lounge with sofa. The bathroom was great (the toilet flush fixture was loose) . The sound insulation of the bedroom was terrible. We could hear everything happening on the street outside from late night / early morning drunks to heavy traffic and sirens all through the night. This, combined with a very firm mattress, unsupportive pillows and air con that stopped every hour led to a terrible night's sleep. Breakfast is mediocre. In my opinion, a 4 star hotel breakfast should be cooked to order and not a buffet. I also begrudge queuing for a substandard coffee machine coffee when I've paid so much for the night. Other 4 stars I've stayed at give you a cafetiere. Staff were friendly and professional. On check out, nobody asked us how our stay was, I probably wouldn't have written this if they did. The location of the hotel itself is brilliant, it's great for exploring Cardiff, it's a stones throw from the train station and the stadium. St Mary's street is 2 minutes walk. The rooms overlooking the street are at the mercy of the Cardiff nightlife. We probably won't stay at the Parkgate again and if we did, we'd insist on a room not facing the street.

After traveling for hours, my husband and I finally settled in our room on the first floor. I went to take a shower and in the shower I was welcomed by 5 mini flies. I called reception and informed them and requested to switch rooms. They were “all booked up” but sent maintenance. I showed him the pictures AND VIDEO. he said we can’t stay there that he would talk to management. No one ever called and helped us out. Thank god we were only in there for one night.

Had a lovely couple of days staying at The Parkgate with my two daughters. The hotel itself is in the best location in Cardiff. Right in the City Centre surrounded by all the shops, cafe's, restaurants and bars etc. Hotel was very clean and smart everywhere. The staff were all very welcoming and genuinely nice, no pretentious nonsense that you sometimes find in more upmarket establishments. I have to mention Keith on front of house, he was so down to earth and friendly. All the staff were lovely. Breakfasts were delicious. Buffet style with all you could want and the dinner was delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Parkgate to anyone wanting a relaxing few days. We also used the Spa and had treatments during our stay which was also a fantastic experience. I do love a good spa day. Krystal was my therapist and she was super friendly but still professional. My massage and facial was so nice I dozed off!

Lovely hotel well placed in the centre of Cardiff. But no noise from outside. We had a room that over looked the millennium stadium. 5 min walk to the train station. Room was very clean decor in the room and hotel very well kept and of a gigh standard. Even member of staff we spoke to was very pleasant and helpful couldn't have wanted better. We didn't have food but it looked very nice what others had. Only annoying thing was number of bar staff. There was a wedding on when we got the so bar staff were stretched looking after the number of people. But it didn't spoil our time there. Breakfast was very good and worth that bit extra. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

You will not find a more central location to all that Cardiff has to offer. Nor are you likely to find better service nor more elegant rooms. We were in the Tower Suite which was incredibly spacious, elegant, striking, and well-appointed. Turndown service includes a pillow spray, a tube of temple rub, some pillow fluffing, and bottles of water. Breakfast is an extensive buffet: eggs, sausage, salmon, beans, bread, coffee and tea, juices, cereals, and more. Breakfast is 7-10 weekdays, and 7:30-10:30 weekends. (Broad enough choices that they can welcome a range of food allergies and choices.) Front office is incredibly attentive and responsive. The building feels safe and secure. The building itself was an old central post office and brings those august institutional stylings to the exterior. We did not try it out, but there is a spa on the 6th floor. Absolutely excellent accommodations!

Lovely hotel with exceptional service. We arrived around 10 AM, and I was just going to check if they'd be okay with me leaving some luggage while we explored the city -- but the staff at the front desk went ahead and gave us a room at no extra charge. Night and day difference between the service & room quality we've received at other hotels around the UK; I wish we would've just stayed in Cardiff instead of moving on to London as a result.

Considering it styles itself as Cardiff’s premier hotel, I was disappointed with our stay. The room was pleasant but had no bath and coffee making facilities were hidden in the wardrobe. For the price and type of room we paid for I would’ve expected some form of coffee machine and a fridge with fresh milk. Guests can’t use the spa facilities without an additional £40 pp charge - I get that treatments should be subject to additional charges but not the hydrotherapy pool. The buffet breakfast was above average although the staff seemed unhappy and disinterested and a buffet breakfast seemed a bit odd for the type of hotel. The whole experience lacked a personal touch; all in all the stay was ‘okay’ but nothing more than that - we won’t stay again..

Wonderful room. Great facilities. Only difficulties were with service in the restaurant. There was apparent difficulty getting the wine we ordered with our meal. The wrong wine came, after the food had arrived. Then the correct one finally arrived after we had finished our starters. Main course arrived without our side dishes. Long wait for coffees at the end of the meal also, due to the fridge with the cream being locked (?). Staff very apologetic and this was reflected in our restaurant bill.

Being new parents celebrating our 6th anniversary we needed the break, yet where still woken early because you can hear the shower next door like it's right next to you. At prices like yours, problems like this shouldn't exist. Especially when just down the road in the Holiday Inn, they actually provide larger rooms with soundproofing at a lower price. We brought swimming stuff expecting to use the pool we are told about while booking, yet come to find out even for that you charge £40 per person. In the end I felt it wasn't worth the price, no bath in the room. No access to casting or youtube. Self service breakfast when paying so much definitely not a fan.

Pros ^ located in City Centre so easy access to everything ^ Comfy beds and quiet rooms ^ Friendly staff (mostly) ^ Wide range of items for breakfast ^ Well attended to by Chloe on Friday evening in the bar Cons * Booked the Prestige Package - canapés were not very warm, and didn’t taste particularly nice either * Tried to order a hot chocolate around 21:15 on Thursday evening. Only to be told by bar staff that the hotel had run out of milk in the last hour. I jokingly said shall I pop across the road and buy some at Sainsburys. He said yes. So I did. What a ridiculous situation for a hotel of this quality to end up in. Absolutely no excuse. Told quite a few staff I was off to buy milk for the hotel and not one of them said "please stay here - we will go” or "wait a moment and I’ll speak to the Duty Manager”. Not impressed * No parking - but Cardiff Centre Railway Station is close by but obviously costs extra

Full disclosure - I usually wouldn't do reviews for hotels but as this is a very high end hotel I think for the money, these things should have been taken care of! Went for our wedding weekend and stayed two nights here. We had just got married and we're staying here right afterwards. Bad stuff: After mentioning it was our wedding weekend we have through they'd at least acknowledge it with a small gift or even and little message to congratulate us, be we got nothing - not even a congratulations from the check in or out staff which shows me they don't pay much attention to details which is what I'd expect for a hotel or this calibre. I've stayed in much cheaper hotels for other occasions and they've usually always at least acknowledged the notes in the booking and gone that extra mile. Spa is not included and cost us an additional £80 to visit for an hour and a half which is say wasn't quite worth it - just a sauna, steam room and a pool that's got some bubbles was a little bit of a stretch for that kinda cash. I feel like this should have been free or charge tbh. Absolutely not worth it. Bathroom still had bits of plaster in between the shower door rivets and there was clear signs of it being newly built and not quite cleaned up after. Bed was NOT a king size. It was two beds put together to make one. This was really disappointing and it got a bit annoying feeling the gap between the two mattresses. We paid extra for a bigger bed and got an uncomfortable one. We got some proper dirty looks for the clientele because we had tattoos. That's not the hotels fault but kinda funny and wanted to mention the type of people that stay here 😂 Pillows were super soft, so we asked for a new firmer pillows but they only had one kind of pillow which was super surprising considering I've got to cheaper hotels who have that service for being with back problems. Cold sandwiches for rooms service after hours, so they told me to get a Dominos 🤣 This hotel is high end - I'd expect at least some kind of hot food option after dark. No screen casting on the TV or any streaming services - it's 2024 guys, come on. Good stuff: Cool view of the stadium, awesome location with all of the city at your door step, the decor was really nice and the tea and coffee trains were very well stocked and had banging coffee and biscuits. Staff were friendly overall and there was free apples?

Talked to Jamie on reception at 9:20am who spoke to spa. She would repeat she was unable to cancel or refund or even change a spa session to a later date, ‘due to a 7 day cancellation policy’. The spa session was at 2pm and the phone call was 9:20am. Very bad service and were rude, they would not offer any gesture of good will. Keeping to an unfair 7 day policy instead of giving an alternative date is a Great way to deter customers from ever going back. Jamie’s only solution was to keep the spa payment and offer no alternative date. Tried to write an email or find a complaints emails address and there is not one on the website. Please look for one yourself, there isn’t one.

The Parkgate hotel is incredibly close to the hustle and bustle of St Mary's street and The Principality Stadium yet the moment you walk into the hotel, you are transported to an elegant and relaxed environment that feels away from Cardiff even though it is in the heart of the city. The rooms are comfortable, providing robes, washcloth towels and bottles of water. The television does aren't smart so you cannot access any applications like Youtube or Netflix if you plan to stay for a long time, this might be an issue. Otherwise they have access to freeview television. The Sorting Room restaurant run by the hotel has incredible breakfast, lunch and dinner options. They offer fantastic waiting service, with a focus on the comfort of the guest. I have had in previous stays the beef wellington, the steak, the scotch egg and the bbq croquettes and would recommend them all. My favourite drink is called The Letter and makes the entire evening, with it's mixture of cream and liquor. The Spa is a relaxing enviornment on the top floor, to which the massages are great and the therapists are incredibly professional and guide you through the process and confirm any comfortablities. The products they use feel fresh, smell lovely and are available to buy from the reception desk in the Spa to take home. Which I thought was incredibly nice, so I can have a bit of luxury at home. Service is incredible with the staff always being friendly from the friendly host, making jokes and giving a happy atmosphere to the concierge being available for any quick alterations when necessary. The best hotel in Cardiff and you'd get more out of this hotel than you would any in London, especially thanks to its welsh charm.
