Its a great wee stop on the road north. The cafe is cosy, quaint and full of nice cards and gifts. There is a nice range of different herbal teas and the usual teas/ coffees. The cakes all looked fab, and we had the fluffiest lightest fruit scones I've ever had the pleasure to eat - the portion of cream was generous and the locally made rhubarb jam was delicious too!

We had driven around the north of the island and stumbled across this little gem. We had delicious sandwiches and totally sinful cakes. The tearoom is lovely, warm and homely and the staff are so friendly.

Stumbled across this on the way to exploring the Wast Ower (west of the mainland). We'd been bemoaning the shortage of places to stop for coffee, having had our planned stop at Da Grub Hut in Voe thwarted through it being closed. A quarter of an hour later we were driving round a country bend and there was the Cake Fridge and Tearoom! Very impressed by the whole set-up, particularly disabled access with an immaculate customer toilet.

We discovered this little cafe by accident and I’m so glad we did, especially because the lunch I’d packed was safely back at our accommodation in Lerwick. The lovely staff described their lunch menu as fairly limited- just sandwiches & soup- which was true, BUT the sandwich I had was lovely. The cakes though! Just amazing. I feel lucky that there are enough beautiful walks nearby to walk off the damage! This cafe deserves to be booked out every day. An excellent find!

Poor service, young children were given adult sized hot chocolate which was too hot for them to drink. Wife wasn't interested in making them cooler ones. Vegan chocolate cake was dry and tasteless. Won't be going again.

A fabulous cafe made all the better by the cake fridges outside! Lovely lunch, it is a very busy cafe so book ahead if you can. Huge selection of homemade cakes which were delicious, as was the reestit mutton soup. Souvenirs and gifts too.

We come here every year but this is the first time we have been in to the cafe rather than just buying from the cake fridge. The cafe is lovely and upon arriving we received a warm welcome and a feast for our eyes from all of the available cakes and treats. The cafe itself is cosy, warm and nicely decorated. We would highly recommend both the cakes and the filled rolls. The gift shop is well stocked with locally made items and is perfect for holiday memories. We can’t wait to return and enjoy all of the lovely cakes again soon.

Zufällig entdeckt. Sehr gemütlich und phantastische Kuchen mit großer Teeauswahl. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich. Wenn geschlossen, dann gibt es einen Honesty-Kühlschrank.

A gem of a tearoom, as well as the cake fridge itself. Very pleasant welcome and the tea and cake much enjoyed. Tearoom closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (at the time of year we were there, July) and can be very busy in - which goes to show that Shetland is very short of such good places for a snack and a cuppa. The view from the front is beautiful and one can easily imagine otters being in the voe as you drink your tea!

An amazing café and gift shop. The choice of cakes is extensive. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The gift shop has an great range of "Shetland" gifts and of course their own mug. Plenty of parking and also outside seating for the better days. The cake fridge outside is stocked up 24/7 which is so civilized. Well worth the trip along the little lanes.

Stopped off here as we'd read up about the 'cake fridge' concept in Shetland and our daughter was keen to see the 'Original'. Plenty of parking off the road, good choice of tiffin, cakes etc and great honesty system. Gorgeous Shetland pony foal in the field opposite was an added bonus!

We loved the original cake fridge! Delicious cakes and other goodies. It’s definitely worth a trip out of your way. A first class adventure for cake!

Lovely selection of cakes - I chose the scone, cream and jam. Scone was excellent, lovely cream but packet tasteless jam. Why not get a strawberry jam that you can taste and put in a lovely little glass container like the cream? Shame.

Ein Café im Nirgendwo, sehr liebevoll eingerichtet mit sehr leckerem Kuchen und Kaffee. Der Abstecher hat sich gelohnt, absolut empfehlenswert.

Brilliant cakes - and very novel. We had the tiffin of course but there was lots of choice. Some days the cafe is open too.

Så mysigt litet fik och souvenirbutik med fina stickade produkter. Köp fika i butiken när den är öppen eller från kylskåpet utanför.

Make sure you stop off here as you explore the roads around Shetland. The Original Cake fridge tea rooms near Aith are superb. Tasty cake, snacks and drinks. Places to sit outside if the weather behaves or a big car park to eat your goodies in your car. A lovely gift shop too. Support the small local businesses as they are the life blood of the community.

Stopped on a busy weekend for coffee and cake. The (freshly-made) cakes were delicious though the coffee was from a (good-quality) bean-to-cup machine rather than freshly made - still good though. Nice friendly service too plus a good-quality gift shop on the side. You can't sit inside, but there's a large seating area outside. This rather unique place in the middle of nowhere has a few fridges by the road where one can buy their cakes out of hours (also cold drinks and hot drinks from a simple machine). Not sure that someone would travel here in the middle of the night to buy a cake, but it's a unique selling-point, so why not! As featured in the Shetland TV Crime drama - though I was told by the staff that they made a mock-up of the fridge and filmed elsewhere, so you're not looking at the actual fridge when watching the drama.

We were staying close by on holiday and stopped past while out for a walk. The group (3-generation family), had a variety of things from coffee and cakes to a plate of reestit mutton soup……..which was absolutely fantastic 😋. The goats in the adjacent field were a great attraction for the grandkids!

Could not contain my excitement when I saw this, I thought it was the product of an over active imagination . . . But no it exists! What an amazing idea, every village needs one. I will suggest it to the next town council meeting in Fowey although it would probably have to be a cream tea fridge. Jam first!

Stopped by at the end of the day on the way back to our holiday cottage. Still plenty to choose from. The cafe was closed and we bought delicious Tiffin from the fridge. Bring plenty of coinage!!

This is a lovely idea and the honesty factor is amazing to those of us who come from more urban and crime ridden areas. The hot drinks were more than welcome and at £2 very reasonable. I felt the cakes were rather expensive though especially as the portions were rather small. Delicious though.

Wonderful cake fridge in the wilds of the Shetland Isles. Despite us visiting it on a very wet and windy day in January, it was well stocked -at least it was well stocked until we bought a lot of cake to keep us going for our week on Shetland! Great cakes in a wonderful island location

The cake fridge is a treat, well-stocked with sweets and beverages, including a coffee and tea machine. The cafe was closed, but we enjoyed stopping and picking up some very delicious baked goods --and seeing the Shetland ponies across the way. Very nice!

North of Lerwick, stray west to Bixter then up to Aith. Then you strike a waft of green and a fridge full of cakes. Plus the ability to make a coffee. Then pay and off you go. OR you can go inside on a good day and be served your tea or coffee and cake or soup or bacon roll. And listen to a beautiful soft Shetland accent.

The absolute best place for breakfast in Shetland. The food and drinks are delicious, and beyond that, the people have hearts of gold. I stopped in one morning before a tour, wanting to get a Diet Coke and the credit card machine wasn’t working. Christiane gave me the Coke anyways and said don’t worry about it. Me! A complete stranger. And when we went back for another breakfast (and I was able to repay her), I bought a bunch of scones for our travels the next day. As luck would have it I lost them somewhere during that day. I went back to Pete’s to ask if I had left them there. No joy. After re-walking the entire town I gave up and came back to buy a sandwich for the next days travels. When Christiane give me my bag she said I’m out of the kind of scones you bought this morning, but I put in another one with jam and cream to make up for it. They are so kind.

When you first realise that the building is actually a shop you are delighted to have found somewhere to buy food or in fact almost anything else you can think of. The bakery section is particularly welcome for hungry explorers. It’s a shame they don’t still have the DIY cafe.

Well appointed restaurant with fantastic views. We had a lunch and a dinner there. For dinner, venison, duck and pavlova all delicious. Cranachan ice cream very tasty but not what we would expect cranachan to be. Service perfectly reasonable. All very good, but not 5* excellent. Would go again.

Friendly staff, good food, plenty of gluten free options. First time I visited there was hardly any customers but the second time it was very busy so I was glad I reserved a table.
