Best Chinese in the area. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff.

We are not from around the area and we found the food to be very tasty and the delivery was quick and the lady was very friendly!

Fantastic. One of the best carryouts we have ever had. Loads to eat hot looked appetising. Highly recomend

Curry tasted like 'homemade' from a watered down curry jar. Service was great, but the food was a disappointment.

Picked up a takeaway. Was very nice. Biggar is beautiful.

Had family arriving on short notice from England shire. Their fussy down there. The oriental whipped up a feast and delivered with time to spare. Also stops off at the shops for me on route. Food is great and can't thank them enough. Delivery driver was excellent knew exactly were I was. Thank you so much.

We were away for a little break and didn’t want to cook so decided on a take away, from the minute we call it was excellent customer service the girl who answered the phone was so friendly, we placed our order and waited they called us back as one item was unavailable so changed it . We got our delivery and we were not disappointed the food was amazing chicken n black bean, Hong Kong style s&s chicken and chicken fried rice all food was also piping hot . Thank you so much for excellent service and delivery would definitely use again if staying in the Merklands Lodge …..

Absolutely love this place! The Beef chow main, roast duck with plum sauce & the crispy chicken in honey & black pepper sauce are Absolutely amazing. Please, please don't take these dishes off the menu.

We have lived around here for some time but never tried Oriental. Will be back. Lovely lovely takeaway. Salt and chilli rib starter was just amazing. Huge portion and tasty. Spicy chicken wings excellent. All very very good. Sadly not open for sit in at the moment.

We’ve had some nice takeaway meals from this place in the past. Got another takeaway yesterday, most of it went in the bin unfortunately. Overcooked and dry and the rice was actually inedible. Really dreadful sadly. It was meant to be a mid week treat but ended up being a waste of £25! Sadly we will be going elsewhere in future despite living locally and always trying to ‘shop local’.

We ordered over the phone, the food was ready quickly. Took it home was still hot and fresh. We have been going here from when I was little never had any problems always lovely food!!

Staying local for 3 days break and had a takeaway one night from here. We had a sweetcorn soup and a tofu Kung Po for me. The soup was really nice and tasty. Hubby had the sweetcorn soup with chicken and a chicken with blackbean sauce and cashews. We went down to order and collect and it was a nice easy process.

Had the best meal last night as I asked and ordered the waitress’ favourite and she recommended honey and chilli crispy chicken with rice, enjoyed every bit of it!

Just had my first takeaway from here and it was fantastic. I had 3 dishes and could not fault any at all. Will be back very soon

Went passed Biggar and on the way to Edinburgh, drove by The Oriental for a takeaway. Foods was amazing and staffs was really lovely.

Stopped here as a last minute on way back from manchester for a takeaway . We had chicken chow main , chicken fried rice and chicken noodle soup . Place was extremely busy , nothing new with it being Saturday night . Food was very hot and tasted amazing . We even got disposable forks so we could eat it in the car . Bonus. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again when we are passing .

Stopped in here by accident on the way home after a drive. Restaurant was quiet, however the take away and delivery side was really busy. Staff were amazing, food was piping hot and there was lots of it. Not sure why there are bad reviews as our experience was fantastic. Would recommend and will be back.

Frequent user of this establishment , and after 3 years the consistency of quality is unrivalled . I’ve tried many combinations both alone and with my extended family , and whether dining within there establishment , or carrying out, the food has been tremendous , Thank you Oriental!!!

I hate giving bad reviews but I really have to here. My friend recommended this place but only ever gets the same thing so she didn't really have much ho go on. I ordered spare ribs and a beef curry to take away, both were really poor quality and ended up in the bin. The ribs were so over cooked that they weren't even on the bone anymore, all shrivelled up and chewy The beef curry was all thin sloppy sauce and the beef was again over cooked and chewy. I'm sorry but 8 will not be back. The gigl who served us was lovely though xx

This place is bad and I mean very bad. Run as far away as possible do not eat here. Take your money to a way better place. Avoid at all costs.

Phoned about 6.50pm to order starters and mail meals for collection at 8.15pm. In and out within 5 mins as everything was ready. After a short journey home food was still pipping hot. Food was excellent, cooked to perfection and evryone happy.

Great service but salt chilli chicken was bland with very little chill and no salt chicken chowmein totally dry and basically was just dry chicken noodles yuck, won't be back

We’ve used this takeaway restaurant for years! Nearly 20 years if I’m honest. Sadly it has slowly gone down hill in quality of food, service.

First time for a sit in meal. staff made us very welcome and the meal was absolutely gorgeous 👍

This is the place to go in biggar if you want surley clueless staff, overpriced badly cooked tastless slops 90 minutes after ordering. Then when you finally get home you find your order is short of the rice.

Ordered tonight and it will be the last time we do after a number of terrible visits.

My partner and I used to love this takeaway !!! Every order we got was 5* however things have went downhill from the service to the quality of ingredients. No matter what you order it has a ‘funny’ taste as if it is cooked in old oil . There was a few times we were ill after eating the food as well so we are sad to say we will not be visiting this takeaway anymore , such a disappointment considering how excellent the food used to be .

The title says it all. There’s nothing fancy about this place but had a very good meal which was reasonably priced. Good service and friendly staff. Need to sort their heating out though.

Popped in for a quick take away supper after a lovely weekend in Edinburgh. I ordered a chicken curry & fried rice, Scott and I shared it and it was lovely & plentiful. The young lady serving was friendly and despite being very busy spent time talking to us. Had not used this take away for years however after tonight I would recommend. Will use again.

first time eating from this restuarant/takeaway and will definetly not use this place again myself and partner both had curry dishes they smelt very strong in flavour but actually to be honest there was no spicy flavour from them very very bland for curried dishes.

Nunca llevar siempre en sábado o entrega. Puede ser bien una vez y muy, muy malo el siguiente. Ya sea un cambio de chef de un día para otro o un enfoque distinto el próximo im seguros pero es un disparo en la oscuridad. .

Used a few times for take away food and found overall quality of food variable. Could be really nice but on the one occasion I did complain when food was not edible the response was poor with no attempt to remedy the problem. Portion sizes small compared to most Chinese take aways. Will not visit again.

Called in with my wife when passing through Biggar.Restaurant was nice and clean,friendly waitress and Chineses beer on draught.Good start.I had Vegetable spring rolls which were very good,piping hot and a good plateful with a chilli sauce dip.For the main I had fried bean curd in black bean sauce with boiled rice.Big pieces of bean curd in a lovely sauce and a big portion of rice.Quality meal and a very good price.£30 for 2 starters,2 mains,a pint and a can of Irn bru,will definitely be back.Highly recommend.Toilets could do with a bit of a clean is the only fault.

Ok.. If you fancy Chinese then go. It used to be much better but it's now ok.. Dishes are not so authentic anymore but as I said. If you fancy British chineese take away/sit in food then it's ok.

this one has eat in facilities and a bar, I have only used it for take away, which have been enjoyable.

Went here for a takeaway for the first time the food was nice the chicken curry had good flavours not bland like a lot of Chinese and the rice was good too only thing was the portions were tiny we only got 8 pieces of chicken in the curry there was more onions than anything 3 stars for taste would have been 5 but for the portions

My partner and I visited the Oriental restaurant in Biggar on Saturday 17.09.16 and decided to sit in restaurant for a meal as carry out side looked real busy but restaurant was empty. We ordered our meals at 1950 and did not receive our starters until 35 mins later followed by our main coursess 25 mins later after we had finished our starters. Whilst the food was good I was not best pleased that staff appeared to be more interested in servicing their carry out side of the business to the detriment of the restaurant side. We did receive numerous apologies from the staff for our wait. I would recommend that anyone visiting in future for a sit in meal should take a good book along or knitting.

Probably just as nice if you sit in but I never have. Good menu - always consistent - and very tasty.

Wonder how much business they've lost by refusing to join the 21st century. This Chinese take away and restaurant consistently serves the best Chinese food we've had in ages. Great to enjoy a Chinese draught beer while waiting for my take-away order!

We have recently moved to the area and The Oriental was recommended to us. We have only had takeaways but always great food and very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend it.

Food was fine good vegetarian choice but counter service could be a little more polite but the food makes up for it

My experience of the served up in this takeaway was so bad I signed up to Tripadvisor to place this review so others can make up their own minds.Passing through Biggar we fancied a bite to eat before and stumbled upon this takeaway and we thought we'd give it a try.My food order was taken by a lady who never once smiled or even made eye contact which made us feel very uneasy. Remember serving lady if you read this, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.the food arrived fairly quickly and was hot but that's where the good things to say end! Our chow mein had so much oil in it we thought it had been deep fried! Sweet and sour sauce was inedible as it had so much vinegar in it. We had asked for Pork balls for the sauce and we were served chicken in a very soggy batter swimming in oil.Fried rice was also served which came out in a brown clumpy mass - we missed that out completely as it looked so unappetising! The other dish we had ordered, beef, green pepper was the best of the bunch it has to be said but, again the black bean sauce was so thin and runny we had to pour it out of the container before serving it.All in all a complete waste of money and time spent waiting for what could easily have been a lovely meal if the chef had made an effort. Hopefully standards will improve very soon but, we'll not be back to find out.

This used to be THEE place to eat in or take away, varied menu, helpful staff and good prices. Recently the standards of the food has gone down hill, lacks atmosphere and now you are charged to get your takeaway in a bag !!! Food delivery is good but food isnt always hot when it arrives and i'm just down the road.

I really enjoyed my meal of both starter and main. One of the best Chinese meals I have had for a while. The young lass who served us was friendly and welcoming despite being on her own and constantly dealing with take-aways - the phone seemed constant - obviously popular.

Went pass Biggar and saw a small restaurant, went in for a meal it was so nice, the service is very good as well. very return soon.

My partner and I regularly eat here and they've made a big step-on from previous experiences. Food is generally nice, albeit I've had the odd meal where the food was too heavily seasoned but can't always expect perfection in a small restaurant. Ideal place to come to fill a gap when on a long drive or you can't be bothered cooking!

We had special chow mien & special curry, both meals having chicken that tasted & looked either under cooked or off. Didn't enjoy at all & wouldn't go back. Wouldn't recommend.

Never had a less than very good meal here. The take-away service and home delivery is top notch, and when sitting-in for dinner the service is always prompt and comes with fun and friendly banter which makes one feel "at home" and as if one is a "regular" diner here.

Been a long time patron of this takeaway but have decided to call it a day with The Oriental as the new delivery driver is shambolic in the extreme. We have been ordering for years, they know where we live, new delivery driver laddie couldn't be bothered to make some simple phonecalls to ascertain where we were resulting in two return trips with our food to the restaurant, fresh orders cooked and then, in total, over 2 hour wait to eat. This alongside the absolute lack of any apology or admission of culpability for his lack of care as well as witnessing the disgraceful argument, in front of customers, (possible the same) member of staff had with his manager in the restaurant a couple of weeks before, has been the nail in the coffin. The food is pretty good, but the new, more expensive prices and poor customer service have driven us away... such a shame, Oriental, get rid of your useless delivery driver.

Thought we would give this takeaway another try. Sad to say that the service on offer on our visit was not at all good with a very rude and surly staff member on the counter who took our order without even looking at me. Same server was answering the phone and was very short and abrupt to the callers (all this happened within earshot of the other waiting customers and the one table who were dining in.My order of Spring Rolls, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Chicken in black bean sauce was taking a long time to come out of the kitchen so I approached the female server (local accent) and asked how much longer my order would be and was told by her in no uncertain terms to 'sit down over there and wait. your number (ticket number I hope!) would be called when the order was ready, and not before! Had I not atready paid for my food I would have walked out at this point.40 minutes after placing my order it was ready. Upon arriving at my destination I unpacked the container and the spring rolls were very tasty. The chicken curry (see my order above!) was lukewarm with a rather lumpy curry sauce. The accompanying Fried Rice was congealing due to the sauce (soy?) used to fry the rice.I did call the takeaway back and asked if my correct order could be delivered but I was told they were to busy to offer that so me, besides I could just return to the shop if I was unhappy!So my experience with this takeaway in Biggar was not what I expected at all.Will I returned to it? Probably not.Would I recommend it to anyone? Definitely not.

The Oriental is a place I would not rush back to in a hurry. The food was below satisfaction, the rubbery chicken was absolutely tasteless and the rice was rather cold. To be honest I didn't feel like it was safe to eat, which I was later proved right with a sore stomach.

Food is good , service is friendly and is good. The delivery service is fast enough - and table service is with a smile .

I felt compelled to defend this establishment to balance against some of the previous reviews which are very damaging and I feel that the Oriental is better than the rating suggestsIt is above average and the food I have had out of there has always been good and recently I have noticed a measurable improvement. I have had food here for the past 3 years and have never regretted it. The take away is always ready on time, hot, and the staff pleasant.It sells a really nice Chinese lager on draught which I recommendPlease give it a go as it suffers from being the only Chinese in the area and I wouldnt want to loose it

Great food, romantic ambience. Subtle comparisons can be made with one of Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver's, although I would say the cutlery is not as good. Lemon chicken is certainly lemony and the meat at least to some extent resembled chicken. Spare ribs??? none to spare when I was finished. :P

Stopped here for a bite on the way to visit friends in Edinburgh. Wished we hadn't.Decided to sit in as there were lots of empty tables. When our food arrived we soon found out why that was. The starter of chicken noodle soup was brought to us and it had to be sent back as it was lukewarm and if I am being honest pretty tasteless. We asked for chicken curry for our main course and the chicken like other people have commented on below had a strange rubber like texture. We left most of that on the plate with the stodgy fried rice.The staff did not seem interested in serving us with drinks or even checking if our meals were OK preferring their mobile phones instead.Would we return? Probably not.

Waited 45 minutes for a takeaway, wish we had gone elsewhere! Absolutely disgusting! Very poor sauce quality and consistency, rubber tasteless chicken,cold rice and dregs of the bottom of the pan classed as chips! At least the dogs got a feed, hope no visits to vet tomorrow! :-(

I've had some good meals from the oriental but sadly one too many times I've been given rubbery chicken sauce with the skin on it, old noodles and lastly a sore stomach after wards.

Went back after a bad experience about a year ago where they said the meal would be 20 minutes. Told tonight that it would be 30 minutes wait ~ hey guess what 47 minutes, and no apology. Food not great ~ I will not waste any more of my time or money at this place !

Bought a selection of carry out meals from here while on a quick visit to a relative in Biggar. The sauce for the Sweet & Sour was as thick as cold treacle, luke warm and horrible, not tangy by any stretch of the imagination. The Lemon sauce in another dish was similarly "stodgy"....couldn't put a flavour to it but it certainly wasn't lemon and it smelled off. A dish of curry sauce, supplied as a side dish was mostly oil with some token curry sauce floating in the middle.Whole family had stomach cramps ( and the rest!!! ) through the night and my daughter was sick twice the next morning. In 35 years of buying Chinese food around the UK and further afield I have never been so badly let down as in The Oriental. Can't believe having read the previous reviews that this is a chance occurence.Certainly won't ever go back and hope that anyone reading this takes it as a warning not to risk it.Off to look for the address for South Lanarkshire Environmental Health Offices now.........
