The Orchid Restaurant in East Renfrewshire

A lunchtime treat🙁 This restaurant is lovely, been here many times over the years and the transformation is amazing. However, todays experience was far from perfect. Ordered from the lightbite menu. the Coronation chicken sandwich was disgustion, no site of any chicken and the texture was awful. Have recently heard from other patrons that their experience on the quality of food had gone down hill, which I didnt believe, but todays experience confirmed this. The owner of this group seem to have taken their eye off the ball especially where the restaurant is concerned. I must add however, the front line staff were very pleasant and promptly rectified my complaint to something that was a bit more edible.

Recently had a family dinner at this restaurant. As always, the service was excellent. The choice of food was extensive and all selections were cooked to perfection and well presented. Will certainly return and would highly recommend.

Yesterday, undercooked chicken. Today- service absolutely useless- 20 minutes at table waiting for anything, after being told that the evening "deal menu" runs out in 20 minutes! Go figure! Been here 4 times for work- generally OK, but yesterday, chicken not safe. Portions are good, price is reasonable but quality is on a par with Wetherspoons microwaved meals. Not moaning- it is what it is and as a chef, I know how hard it is to keep everyone happy. So, to be fair, the menu is ok- a varied selection and as stated, very generous. Service until this evening has been ok as well, so its something of a neither here nor there review. Simply put, would I go back- id give it another try, but not if service is like that again. Disappointed and hungry- not much choice in Barrhead so maybe that's why some say its great. Good on a good day; Adequate rest of time except on a bad service day when its....

What a find. I booked a standard room for work and was upgraded to a very nice suite. The restaurant was excellent and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I have stopped in some great hotels across the world thanks to my job, but I have immediately booked to bring my wife here from 200 miles away next week. That is a first, and testament to this outstanding hotel. Owners and staff should be very proud.

We had a lovely afternoon tea. Lots of lovely treats to eat. Even needed food boxes to take home what we were unable to finish. Staff were helpful, efficient and friendly. Lovely modern restaurant in a delightful garden setting. This was our first time to the restaurant and we were very impressed. We will be back. We will recommend this restaurant

We booked Christmas dinner here after having successful visits here and an associated hotel. The hotel was very busy and they were also using the function rooms to get every one in. The price was reasonable and the food as good as you could expect from catering on this scale. To give some idea of the numbers our table was numbered over 200. The orders were taken promptly and everything was served within a reasonable time with no delays. It was run a bit like a military operation and the efficiency was excellent. We will almost certainly be back next year. The oddity was there was no Christmas pudding. The only downside was the car park was inadequate for the numbers there.

First visit here and loved the food. Good friendly service too. Dining area lovely views out to the garden and nice atmosphere for lunchtime. Decor nice too.

Beautifully decorated place felt really fancy and cosy. Seating area well thought out as plenty of space between tables and quite closed off which I preferred. Food was amazing we got creamy garlic mushrooms for starters. Mains we had the steak pie and chicken stroganoff and could not fault. Fair price for what we got as bill came to £66 for two starters , two mains and 4 cocktails. 10/10

We visited here today & had a first class dining experience. The menu was vast & was accompanied by a Chefs Special Menu . The chargrilled butterfly chicken with mushrooms, fried tomato & fries were delicious as was the salmon with prawns. Very generous portion sizes but we somehow made room for desserts & we are so glad that we did.The biscotti pavlova was absolutely beautiful & the lemon meringue pie was too. Compliments to the chef! We had tea to follow. Our waitress , Robynn was very friendly, helpful and attentive & nothing was too much trouble. She is a total credit to you. I was pleasantly surprised by the bill too. We meet up once a month & try a different restaurant each time but we are all in agreement that this will now be our restaurant of choice...nowhere comes anywhere near to the quality of food & high standards of customer care and value for money. Thank you so much .We will be back next month. 100% recommend.

We were a party of 7 dining on New Years Day at the last sitting. The resturant has been beautifully refurbished in recent years. There was ample waiting staff, very well organised and took our orders in good time. Drnks were served quickly and table water offered without being asked. The menu choice was excellent and offered great value for money. The plates were piping hot and the portion size excellent. Our dinners were all of an exceptional high quality, and for those with room for pudding this was also excellent. My Dad who is most fussy said it was the best meal he had had in years! Nothing was too mch trouble. Would highly recommend.

We were in today for the set Christmas menu, I'm gluten intolerant and asked for the GF menu. It looked alacarte so I asked if I choose something from this menu and it will be the same price...I was informed yes. Then we noticed there were some expensive items on the GF menu which didn't make sense for a set price. So we asked again to be told...no I can't order from that menu. I was informed "tell me what you want and I'll ask the chef" why can't they have a Christmas GF menu? As I ordered the waitress gave me back the GF alacarte menu "you will need this if having dessert". OK then I'm having dessert so I order something to be told no you need to order from this menu, are you following this cause by this point its painful for us all. Again the waitress had to go to the kitchen and ask. Out of 5 or 6 desserts I could have lime and pineapple pavlova some weird concoction. I felt like an inconvenience as the waitress was running back and forth from kitchen to table and she did sort out the dessert which was much appreciated. lots of restuarants make it easy whether its a set menu or alacarte. Today was a stressful experience just because the chef couldn't be bothered pulling together a seperate menu.

This restaurant is bright and cheerful. The staff are excellent; professional, helpful and friendly. There was an excellent selection of food available. We chose the steak pie and the salmon dish and both were excellent. Will certainly return.

Eat there today and while I can’t fault the staff, the food was nothing more than average. We left somewhat disappointed. The chips in a basket were just like mass produced chips you can get in any cheap restaurant. My Wife’s portion were all clumped together into mush I ordered steak pie which was nothing more than stew and puff pastry, no pie. Our carrots were not cleaned properly with dark gritty material in the folds of the skin. The goats cheese was dry and with almost no sauce or relish to moisten it. Everyone’s food came with a salad which had no dressing. The prices for starters, mains and deserts are a couple of pounds more that other fine restaurants nearby but this is not justified. There are many much better places to eat within a short drive from the restaurant providing good hearty, and honest food at better prices. Overall a poor eating experience. Would not recommend, nor go back. Quite a shame as the ambiance was good,

Visited The Orchid today with family to take advantage of the half price deal but can't say I'd go back. I ordered a fillet steak cooked medium but the steak that came out was probably whatever comes after well done. Normally when having a meal in a restaurant the staff approach you after a few mins of serving your meal to check everything is ok so I sat waiting, and waiting but noone came. I'm starving by now though so I start eating small bits of it but wanting to preserve evidence of the overcooked stake. Eventually I gave up waiting and just ate it. Had it not had a tenner off it I would've kept waiting. Also when ordering the steak the waiter asks "what sauce would you like with your steak" now to me, the wording of that would suggest the sauce is included with the meal. Upon reading over the receipt at home I discovered this isn't the case and youre charged for the sauce so don't be caught out by this. At no point during the meal or when ordering desserts or asking for the bill did anyone ask us if our meals were ok. I don't feel comfortable calling a waiter/ waitress over to complain in a busy restaurant and usually they come to you to check evwrythings ok, had this happened I could've pointed out the problem and had it rectified.

We celebrated my husbands 50th birthday in this restaurant last night, food was delicious and plentiful, customer service was second to none! We will definitely be back, well done 5 star all round
