The Olive Tree in Shetland Islands

We had an excellent lunch yesterday at a more than reasonable price. Two of us had the meal deal and the other a wrap but it was a difficult choice as everything looked so good and fresh. The meal deal included a delicious bowl of soup, bread roll, piece of fruit and a hot drink. A little off the main town as it is on the lower floor of the Toll Clock Shopping Centre but well worth the effort. We were served by lovely staff and a good chat with one the owners. Would highly recommend.

Served by a very judgmental young woman who made us feel very uncomfortable. Now onto the food, the hot food we purchased was cold and flavourless. The cold food we got; pasta, salads, coleslaw, cous-cous, and meats. The chicken was hard and stale, the salady bits had an odd chemically taste with them, soap maybe? We also got coffees and it was very cheap tasting with no flavour and undrinkable. Overall, definitely wouldn’t recommend coming here and wasting your money.

Another great day for breakfast in one of the best coffe shop in Shetland even so the place was buzzing today (13/05/23) was very busy ,the owner and his employees was very helpful ,and attentive,didnt have to wait long at all,just so organised this coffee shop.and friendly ,so again ,Thank you again

Thoroughly enjoyed several visits here on a recent trip to Shetland. Friendly, helpful staff, great service, great coffee with oat milk, nice choice of baked goods. What more could one need?

well this place cant fault at all,always be there for bacon roll(crispy) and they delivered everytime a succulent crispy bacon, top of it its the coffee,this premises has a proper italian coffee machine maker what a coffee,nice and strong staff,very cheerfull,helpfull, love having breakfast here well reccomended

I was in last week and asked if they had any vegan cakes, was told they’ll have some soon and were looking into sourcing something. Went back today and they had three vegan cakes/brownies on offer! And two will be regulars from now on. I tried two of them, both delicious! Great service and very friendly staff.

As vegans me and my husband had lots of choice for our first course, we has wraps and a drink. Great choice of cakes on the counter, but non of them vegan. Very disappointing. We would have liked a sweet, or even some fruit. Nice atmosphere in the cafe with friendly staff.

This hidden gem of a delicatessen and coffee shop is located a few hundred metres along from the main shopping street in Lerwick, in the unassuming Toll Clock shopping centre. There is a large selection of delicious salads in bowls to choose from - Moroccan cous cous, brown rice, quinoa, pasta, bulgar wheat, coleslaw, as well as the standard salad items, so you can add these to the delicious home made quiches, or have your main course of salads. There are panini, bagels, sandwiches, scones and cakes and the coffee is delicious too. Service is friendly and swift. A great find.

Great lunch Tasty Tuna Melt panini with Salad, Delicious and fresh. I'm allergic to cucumber so had to change salad, this was no bother to staff. Great service, will definitely visit again soon.

In today, very busy. Service is good, the man on the till was very good today and the previous visit where he made excellent bacon rolls. I really need to point out working in a cafe isn’t a fashion show and all the nice girls must ware a apron to protect our food and there outside cloths as well as basic health and hygiene. Mareel cafe is the same, get aprons on all cafe staff! Was in again for a pre cinema lunch which was excellent stake roll was amazing, great soup and the scones with jam and cream are outstanding. Always a friendly welcome and quick service at the Olive Tree. Good coffee, cakes soups, fresh bread and snacks, but the best thing is the great range of freshly prepared salad ingredients to make your own perfect salad. Comfortable seats as well as tables and chairs.

We only used the take away service but on both occasions the food that they supplied was excellent and very good value for money

Visit here a lot, good service, friendly staff. Good cup of (decaff) coffee in a busy friendly atmosphere, quieter through in the seating area away from counter. Great choice of salads and cake.I especially like the cheese scones and quiche, either takeaway or sit in.

Great staff all helpful especially Mr Olive Tree who I believe is the owner as he is so cheery & get the queques served in mega quick time. Tables can be scarce around 12-1pm but there is an additional seated area plus a bar type section with stools although theres non alcohol..lots of flavoured coffees & good choice for gluten free diners esp the cakes..all home made..its a cracking little place & very popular esp with locals from all over the Isles

If you want deli-style take-away, this is the place. Fresh-made salads daily, and your choice of protein available.

I love this place for lunch. You can sit in or get a takeaway. There is plenty of variety and the staff are always friendly. The soups are always good.

We had coffee, scones and jam with home made biscuit for the small girl to have with her glass of water. Service was excellent as was the coffee.

I visit the Olive Tree with family every Saturday morning, the service, the food and the selection for those on a restricted diet is great.

This is where I always go when I'm in Lerwick. Wonderful build-your own salads, home-made soups, sandwiches/rolls, cake, good vegetarian options, wide selection of tea, coffee and soft drinks and all very reasonably priced. Laid-back seating, cheerful, friendly staff and works by local artists available for sale.

Whenever we visited Lerwick we often had lunch here. This year when we went in, the Cafe looked a bit "down at heel". The Menu choice was much more limited.The food was uninviting.

The Olive Tree is such a busy little cafe in the Tollclock shopping centre. There is a wide range of sandwich fillers which you get to choose. The millionaires shortbread is the best I have EVER eaten, and sometimes just go in to buy that as a takeaway.

I visited at lunchtime with two friends. The problem at busy times is seating. One of us had to grab a table and get the others to order. This isn't quite as easy as it sounds, as there is such a choice on display - possibly 12 varied bowls of salad items, various quiche, soups, paninis, and it is easier to point to what you want than tell someone what to get for you. However the food is fairly priced, and all delicious. It is very popular, and that says it all.

Eating out in Shetland is variable to say the least, too many places serve overpriced microwaved stuff. The Olive Tree is good value, the food and choice is excellent, and the service is friendly. There is lots of room so you can rely on it. A few other places we visited are now off my list but this is definitley the first place I'll think off for mid morning coffee or lunch.

This has to be the best for freshly made lattes and freshly made rolls, soups, panini and toasted baguettes. Fantastic friendly helpful staff. You can also purchase Orkney ice cream. Freshly cooked to order bacon rolls in the best Waas Bakery rolls done to your liking

This place seems to be very busy - the first time we tried to have lunch we could not find a table. We were luckier the 2nd time, and had a good meal of soup and panini. Good value for money.

Called in for a coffee and snack to fill the time while we waited to board a ferry. Good old fashioned cafe serving honest grub and good coffee - just what we we looking for. Busy too, even mid-afternoon.

The Olive Tree by far has the best coffee in the whole of Shetland for a good price. Also Brian the owner is pretty cute ❤

For a no nonsense good home cooked food and excellent service you cannot get much better in lerwick. The berry buns and tiffin are exceptional

I started going here about 3months ago, after being diagnosed as coeliac I found most cafes had a limited choice but there is always a good selection at the Olive Tree. There are usually 3 soups all home made and delicious, various salads and GF bread for sandwiches. On top of that the staff are friendly and efficient. Well done to the Olive Tree!

We had lunch home made soup and bread the staff were very niceand the Olive Tree was very clean it is easy to get to ither by car or walking nice shopping experience with in the complex.

Had some carrot cake was very dry not nice sorry to say the cream cheese iceing was far to sweet not much cream cheese in it

We visit the Olive Garden at least twice a month and have never had a bad meal yet! The food on offer is delicious and healthy fare. The portions are hearty and the prices are very reasonable. Look out for their fruity iced buns, they are to die for! The staff are just lovely and always seem genuinely pleased to see you and happy to serve. A very popular lunch destination so always busy. My fave place to have lunch with the family.

Great fresh food - lots of fresh salad options, homemade soup, quiche, paninis, filled rolls and fresh cakes. The Olivetree seem to cater well for intolerances eg wheat and dairy however perhaps not that much choice for vegans. Plenty of seating available and the service is quick. Good range of salads, sandwiches, soups and cakes. Most of the food prepared on the premises. Ask for a strong ocffee and that's what you get. Lovely staff, and some of them are the most skilled with a coffee machine in Lerwick. Can't fault the food and the service, and there is generally a queue at peak times. Well worth a visit.

This self-service restaurant is well-used by both locals and tourists. All food is prepared to a high standard. We had lunch here and had the poached salmon salad which was delicious. Despite being busy, the owner found time to chat with most customers. A really friendly place catering for all the family.

The Olive Tree serves great food, although it's not a very nice place to sit in. It's cramped and can be a little dark.The food is lovely, and the service is great too. Although, there is a lot more on the menu than what meets the eye. Their boards aren't particularly great for the full information.I have had soup and different sandwiches here on a few occasions, and have enjoyed the all. The price is always reasonable too.

I have never had a bad coffee here, they are always consistent and offer a great menu to accompany, something for every budget and every diet....

The Olive Tree makes the best scones, their cheese scones are amazing and I've yet to find any anywhere else that even comes close. The Deluxe Hot Chocolates are great if you really want to indulge. The is a great variety available for a salad box if you don't have time to stay for lunch and always a selection of soups, Cullen Skink is a favourite. It goes without saying that there's a good selection of cakes too, and always a choice for those who are gluten free. The staff are so friendly and helpful, my weekend is not complete without a visit to the Olive Tree.

This is my favourite lunchtime spot in Lerwick. Really good choice of delicatessen type meals. Salads, soup, paninis, rolls etc and all made especially. Couldn't afford to eat here every day but nice for a weekly/monthly treat at lunchtimes. They've now started bacon rolls in mornings too so not just salads etc.

This is probably one of my favourite cafes in town. It is the only cafe where you can get NICE salad that is fresh!! They make lovely quiche and it's very affordable. Would recommend a quiche salad plate!! Amazing.

To Shetland as 3 vegetarians and 1 vegan and The Olive Tree was one of the handful of places who put themselves out for the vegan. Great for soups. Only scored down to four since cakes fell short and a lack of cheese scones (while I was conducting a Shetland-wide survey).

Soup was split pea with pancetta, strange texture and didn't find any pancetta. Ended up getting bagels and leaving soup. Really good menu with really good service. Nice clean tables and comfy chairs. Suggestion for music in the seating area to let people relax better. Not much room at the deli to have a good look to decide what you want. But rushed. Girls behind the counter was very friendly.

Enjoyed the steak roll I had yesterday - well presented, flavoursome and satisfying. The range of other products is wide and varied also.

Thus is a friendly, bustling cafe, busy at lunchtimes with people popping in from local businesses for take-away lunches. An extra room now provides plenty of seating, including a couple of couches for those who want to sit with a coffee and croissant and read the paper. Their salads are excellent with a good choice of different ingredients to build your own, and lovely cakes.

We ate here the Saturday before Up Helly A.We were surprised at just how good a cafe this was and would recommend it to anyone.

Been a while since we have been here, just popped in for lunch. Lunchtimes can be quite busy but still plenty of seats now that more have been added. Plenty of choice, and different soups, tasty salads, pastries and cakes.

Went there twice during wool week. Was advised that they serve good clean food fairly quickly. They did not disappoint in any way as far as the food was concerned. Very casual and ok to take it out. Plenty of seating but the wifi was not working. But for food...no complaints!

I live lerwick for the first time i went in for toasted pannini hot chocolate with family and friend it was very tastey.There is arrange salads soups n toasties and cakes. I will be back again. Try other things out. Highly recommend trying here.

I had a quick stopover at The Olive Tree while buying ingredients for the evening meal. I ordered a Dutch White coffee and a piece of Carrot Cake from the friendly and pleasant staff who always have a ready smile. The coffee as usual was excellent and the Carrot Cake, a wicked little treat. Up to the usual excellent standard.

The staff are very friendly. Every time I have visited the food has been consistently good as well as being reasonably priced (unlike others in the town!). Easily the best cafe in Lerwick.

Menu changes daily and every time I've visited I've always found it too difficult to choose what to have! Everything looks freshly made and the salad options are so good it is a challenge not to overfill your plate. Excellent service too. If you are having a cake with your coffee, I would urge you to have the iced bun. It looks a complete mess - but it is honestly the tastiest cake ever baked!!!

We are regular customers here and whether it be coffee, cake or scone, or salad and quiche it is always of a very good standard.

Eating gluten free can make a person feel weird, but not here. I actually felt welcomed and valued, so this is definitely a place I will revisit. Highly recommended.

Love the salads, quiches, soups. The soups and quiches are always varied. The ones we've had, have been delicious. There's also a great gluten free range of home bakes. Staff are friendly and never rush you out when you've finished eating.

Good food, friendly staff and great service. About 20% over priced in my opinion but the lack of lunch time alternatives in Lerwick make it worth a visit.

I go out of my way to get to the Olive tree for their lattes,the quality of their food is always excellent also they have a wide variety, I especially like their steak rolls. Seating used to be a problem,however they have now extended their seating area. The staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to accommodate you. Well worth a visit.

I found The Olive Tree one lunch time while i work working in Lerwick, it has a great selection of food, at good prices, once i'd found this place i came back pretty much every day. You may find quite a queue when you go in there but the staff are excellent and very efficient so it doesnt take as long as you may imagine to get served.

We often pop here for a coffee or lunch and it is much better now the seating area has been extended. The rolls, salads, cake and coffee are very good and tasty. It is convenient when shopping at the Toll Clock.
