Lovely home cooked meal, friendly staff. Been many times over the years when visiting snowdonia. Lamb and the meat pie are favourites 😋 of the choices board.

We visited as 4 couples for an early dinner during a stay in wales, what a lovely country pub. We were served by a lovely young man called Daniel, the service was excellent, the food fantastic and huge portions, highly recommend visiting this pub if you are in the area

This has always been one of our go to pubs when we have visited the area and I am pleased to say it's still a great place to visit. on arrival the lovely lady behind the bar was very welcoming and was very helpful when suggesting a particular type of wine to try she even gave me a taster just to make sure I would enjoy it, my husband went for a real ale as the pub is exceptionally good at keeping ale. the food was delicious I went for the bean hotpot whilst my husband had the lamb. the place is clean warm welcoming with great food staff and locals. can't wait to visit again

On arrival bought drinks and sat down, after about 15 mins bar staff came to tell us that they couldn’t serve us as food was running out, there were no staff & chef was in a really bad mood. Then went on to say we were told on booking that it was on the terms of “take your chance”. Which was a blatant lie. Leaving us at 7.45 bank holiday Friday unable to drive anywhere else to get food. We went to the nearby Fairy Falls which is under new management & was excellent food AND service.

Came, sat down and left. The land lady is extremely rude. There was no one, and I mean 0 customers in the pub but dirty tables with old food and drinks still on them all outside. Idle staff just hanging around doing nothing. Left after 5 mins. Went 10 mins further up the road to a really lovely pub with friendly staff and home cooked food called Y bedol.

What a find. We were two couples staying nearby, looking for a good pub that did food. Drove past during the day and thought it looked interesting. So glad we went back that same evening. Traditional pub with real fires and lovely staff. The food was home cooked and proper pub fare. Special mention for the steak pie .... exemplary! Unpretentious and welcoming, we will absolutely be back when in the area next.

Another great lunch in the Old Ship, which we only discovered recently, our third time staying in the village, and this already feels like our local. The two ladies we have been served by behind the bar are very friendly, and very good at their job. We have yet to meet the landlady, as she always seems to be in the kitchen, turning out very good pub food. On our last visit, we both had the lamb shoulder, which you need to be hungry for, this would not count as a light lunch, but is just right for a rugby player on a Sunday. This time, I went for the home made pie, which again is excellent, if I was to be really, really picky on a Sunday I would like roast potatoes, rather than chips. My wife went for two starters, thinking they would be the same size together as a main course. I actually had to help her finish as they are large starters. Give it a go, it's well worth a visit.

I went to The old Ship with a friend for a long overdue special meal. At first everything was lovely our starter's arrived and was good. But when my main arrived, (I had ordered Lamb shoulder with dauphinoise potatoes) it was lamb but served with 3 tiny boiled potatoes. I specifically ordered the lamb because I love dauphinoise potatoes so decided to order it even though it was expensive. I went to the bar to explain that I only ordered the lamb because of the dauphinoise and that's not what I've been given. I was told to choose something else and would be given a refund for the difference. I thanked them and agreed. This is where things started to go wrong. The waiter then came back and said I couldn't have my new order and could only have the lamb (reheated) with mash, again I reluctantly said OK. Few minutes later I was told I couldn't have the lamb with mash potato unless I gave back my refund and paid the full £22.50. I would never have ordered lamb and mash for £22.50 I said I'd lost my appetite after accepting every alternative, to be finally told I had to pay full price for their mistake. They begrudgingly gave me a refund for my main but we asked to speak to the owner as we we're made to feel like it was our fault. The owner came out shouting at me and my friend and when I said that I'd been looking forward to my meal and would now probably just end up with cheese on toast at home, that's when the owner got personal and said "now come on, you've had a starter already, I think we all eat too much these days!" She shouted at myself and my friend from the second she came out to speak to us and at no point would she accept that it was her mistake and that I had been more accommodating accepting every alternative offered, except paying full price for something I hadn't and wouldn't have ordered in the first place. It completely ruined my evening and I felt very intimidated and was close to tears as I left. As we were walking away she shouted after us "Do you want to use my laptop to make the bad review on TripAdvisor?!?" At no point did she say sorry. I wasn't looking for any free drinks or food but an apology would have been the very least she could have given. I would never go there again!!!

Looks quite modern from the outside with a lovely size garden. Inside was a different story an old pub so older style feel appreciated but the musty smell is not! Ornaments and decor so random 18th century to the 80s and anything else in between, someone's had a field day at the car boot. The food however was really good, average prices generous portions and probably the best fish I've had in somewhere like this. There was 4 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. You won't be disappointed if you end up there but equally I don't think I'd rush back

We managed to get a table here at a few hours notice, whilst staying in nearby Betws y Coed where restaurants seem to be at a premium. About a 5 mile, 12 minute journey by car from BYC. There is a large car park. It was busy even at half six on an early October mid week evening. We were promptly shown to our table and our white wine - good and chilled arrived quickly with the requested iced water. The fish & chips were good although the batter was a bit spongy. The homemade steak & mushroom pie with chips, peas, carrots and broccoli was very nice and tasty. I would have had a dessert but there was only one lady doing the bar and taking orders and when it was got very busy she needed help although she did a good job. Our bill came to £41 for two glasses of wine and two mains - happy with that. It is well worth a visit.

Lots of notices saying what they can't do for you at the moment, due to severe staff shortage. They were coping with this in fact, mainly by severely restricting numbers and taking a very strict line on 'bookings only'. An attractive pub and in better times the garden would be nice. Service was fine, and my meal was decent except for slightly dry chicken. Generous portions.

Just got back to our B and B in Betws-y-Coed after a lovely meal here in the Old Ship. Our bar assistant was fantastic and very attentive! We had starters and mains, I had 3 different types of gin from a massive assortment, all very reasonably priced! The food was delicious, we sampled the fish and chips, which my partner inhaled! I had the garlic and Stilton mushrooms to start, which were amazing, then the herby sausages and mash with red wine gravy for my main. Everything tasted exceptional, and very well seasoned. You can tell that care is taken to cook the food. The menu is limited due to covid, but what is on offer is top notch! My only tiny gripe may be that with severely reduced numbers due to covid, you lose a certain level of atmosphere. But the pub dog (Holly) more than made up for this with her surprise appearance, ZOOMIES, and subsequent cuddles!

A poor welcome. When I asked if we could sit in the beer garden, the waiter looked upset, and service was very slow. To the point I was convinced we were being ignored- and it wasn’t busy.It wasn’t busy because not only was customer service poor, but the quality and portion size of the food was shameful. If you are hungry after a walk, don’t eat here. I paid £20 for a seafood ‘platter. It should be readvertised as an appetiser. And stale ‘crusty’ bread . See picture.

We stayed next door at the b and b for 2 nights and came to the old ship both nights.Night 1 my partner had sausage and mash with eton mess for dessert. I had cajun chicken salad with chocolate fudge cake and salted caramel ice cream. Our review for this is:My partner felt he could have done with 3 sausages rather than 2 as he was very hungry after a long walk. We had looked at the menu online beforehand and he was quite looking forward to a steak bur this wasnt on the menu when we went in? So we have considered that in the rating of 4 stars. The dessert was well portioned and looked good. It also tasted good! For my meal my salad was lovely but too many tomatoes for my liking and could have had more peppers perhaps or cucumber (just my preference) chicken was verg hot and super tasty! My dessert was lush! Good size and well presented Night 2:Partner had sticky toffee pudding and we both had fish and chips! It was lovely! Good size fish lovrly crispy batter not soggy. Chips were nice and plenty of mushy peas. Everything was exscrly what we would expect. The song choices were interesting....some Christmas songs on? I believe the disc maybe stuck which was a little funny..drink choices were ok i had a few differnt gin and my partner tried a few ales.

Our group stopped off at the Old Ship during a mini-break in North Wales - our B&B said it was still the best pub in the area and we looked forward to trying it again. It had been a few years since we'd been to Trefriw so we thought we'd try it again. We received a very warm welcome from the lady at the bar who helped us find a table and then served us our drinks - excellent beer from a local brewery called Purple Moose and some unusual gins from their gin menu - a nice idea! The menu is on a big blackboard and we were split for choice but in the end went for steak pie x 2, fish and chips and the vegetarian 'bean pot'. One of our group has specific dietary requirements but this was not an issue one bit - good to see. All the food was tasty, well presented and filling, and both the bar and restaurant areas are cosy with real fires. It was all so good we returned the next night and it was just as good the second time (TRY THE LAMB SHOULDER!!!). We'll be back and won't leave it so long this time...!

My wife has dietary issues, and is currently following the FODMAP process. The Old Ship Inn were totally sympathetic and discussed her needs at length, creating a meal especially for her - I'm sure that if it had been high season, this would have been more difficult for them, but they made the effort, and it was really appreciated. My partner picked this place based on the menu as I wanted lamb for my main. We came here with my parents, the lady behind the bar was accommodating, friendly, and had a good sense of humour. We were seated, and as my mum has mobility issues she even pointed out we could exit through the door near where we were seated, which was helpful.I had the goats cheese for starters, it was ok but I feel it needed something to make it taste a bit sharper, perhaps paring it with a pickled beetroot or cranberry sauce rather than pesto. The lamb that I had for my main was absolutely delicious and I couldn't fault it in anyway. The creme brûlée I had for desert was also very good. I tried a bit of the beef my mum had for her main, but that wasn't too my taste and was a very cowy tasting bit of beef if that makes sense, and was a bit too strong in taste for me. Overall, the food was good and the atmosphere was good. It was a bit too hot where we were seated as lots of candles were lit for ambience, the place as a bit on the pricy side and it did feel a bit cramped, but overall a good place for a nice hearty and tasty meal.

We arrived with a small tour group on a cool and rainy early afternoon. It was perfect. Cool and drizzling outside, warm and inviting inside. We were warmly greeted and invited into an “old pub” atmosphere. It’s the the kind of place you wish you had in your neighborhood. It’s not one of those quickly built establishments acting like they are a real pub. As an old Navy radio guy, I appreciated the antique radio items on display. But all this was just the opening act! The food, which is what we had really come for, was going to be excellent.

We ate here twice over Easter bank holiday, and both times we all had proper pub grub at reasonable prices and tasty it was too. Nice beer also was on offer.

A lovely, charming pub with a great atmosphere and an excellent selection of Gin and draft beer. We didn’t stay to eat, but the food we saw looked and smelt delicious, will definitely be staying for a meal next time we pass.

Always a pleasure to go there and the customer service is always top notch. Clean and inviting atmosphere. Have eaten there many times over the years. I feel that the quality of the food is nice, although not as good as it has previously been, perhaps a new chef?

This is a proper old fashioned pub. Nice old bar, loads of beams and glasses and bottles hung everywhere. And a fire. It’s a brilliant place to spend a winter evening and the food is absolutely outstanding, especially for the price. Their steak pie (sourced from the butchers opposite) and the fish and chips were particularly awesome.

Post walk lunch. Our group of 8 had a wide range of superb home-cooked meals ranging from venison braised in red wine to home made fish soup and home made quiche. All were top quality. Beer was also highly recommended. Staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely decor. Overall, a wonderful meal and we will be back!

Whilst staying in the local area we popped to this pub for a pint. What a pint! The beer is kept at a high standard. We enjoyed the Banks Bitter and Butty Bach. However, the ales are constantly changing so who knows what tasty ale you may encounter if you visit. We visited again later in the week for lunch. The beanpot with goats cheese and steak pie were our choices and we were not disappointed. This pub and the friendly, welcoming locals will be a deciding factor when deciding to holiday in this part of the country again. We shall definitely return.

We stayed at a B&B; in Trefriw as we wanted to climb Snowdon which is easily accessible from this village. After our climb we were obviously a bit weary and very hungry! The Old Ship Inn is next door to the B&B; and we were grateful to be able to just pop next door - we were so glad we did! It was a Saturday evening and we managed to get a table but it was very busy and it would probably be advisable to book at a weekend. It is a basic, traditional pub with a good choice of beer. The menu offered a good range of traditional pub food - I chose a hearty, homemade steak pie and chips whilst my husband chose pepperpot beef with ginger.

I had to go back again, the food and ambience was so lovely. My parents have been eating lunch this gorgeous Pub for a few years. So when visiting my parents who live in Rhos-on-Sea during Sept 2018 I had the absolute pleasure of visiting here for lunch. I had the salmon on spinach mash and ratatouille, which was delicious. I had just had to visit again before my return to Australia. My second visit I had the Pepper beef with ginger also delicious. Thank you for great food with fond and enduring memories of time spent with my elderly parents.

Serves meals on Sunday evening, so was busy a good sign. My wife had baked goat's cheese and steak and ale pie and I had a steak, chips and vegetables good. Good size portions neither of us could be tempted to a dessert. A selection of real ales on offer and the one we tried we enjoyed. Service was a little tardy but it was busy and the food was freshly cooked and hot when it arrived. Would recommend.

We were in this pretty village for 2 nights, the first evening we went to the Ship and were lucky to get a table. I was hoping for the vegetarian cottage pie but that had gone. However the char grilled vege lasagne was much tastier than I had expected. My partner had the shoulder of lamb and found that delicious too. We tried the brasserie the following night but they couldn't accept card payments, we couldn't get in at the Ship so its popularity speaks volumes. We ended up driving to a local town!!

Good friendly pub with good food. This pub was conveniently located next door to Crafnant House where we were staying. The first night my wife had shoulder of lamb, beautifully cooked and very generous proportion, so much so that I was called upon to help finish it which was no hardship at all. We tried another place to eat the next night but we're a little disappointed so had no hesitation in the returning here when we enjoyed another lovely meal on the Friday night when we were lucky to get a table.

Had a great meal with the family. As usual everyone wanted something slightly different from that offered. All requirements well catered for. Lamb (my favourite) was excellent but just too large to finish. Good sides of freshly cooked vegetables. For a small pub this was exceptional.

My partner and I have enjoyed dining at this hidden gem a couple of times a year for a while now, and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is lovely, cosy, the food is varied and delicious, moderately priced considering the quality, and the young staff are most friendly, courteous, efficient and helpful. There is plenty of parking, also a lovely and quite extensive garden seating area (recently upgraded) with a nice view of the valley. Highly recommended, my partner and I will certainly be visiting again... and again hopefully!

Another visit to this lovely site and this brilliant restaurant. The food is always gorgeous and tasty. The staff are really friendly and always make you feel so welcome. We had two evening meals there and a Sunday Roast which was simply the best we have ever tasted. So you can imagine our shock and horror when we were told that the bar and restaurant is to knocked down to accomodate two more mobile homes. This is an absolute travesty and will be a huge loss to the site. In fact a site with zero facilities will not be top of my list in the future. Thanks to Mo and the team for doing such a brilliant job.

Went for lunch today for the first time. Lovely fresh food. I had the scampi which was nice and golden brown with homemade chips . Husband had the gammon with homemade chips. A joy to find chips cooked like that as a lot of places do frozen. Staff were attentive and friendly, checked we were enjoying our meal. Will definitely return.

Two of us went for breakfast and found it a bit disappointing mainly because the food wasn't particularly hot. Based on this experience I don't think we'll go again.
