Landlord is grumpy & unwelcoming! No atmosphere in the place & the toilets obviously haven’t been cleaned in a while. The decor might look nice but it’s not a nice place to go for a drink. We came in march & April when we were back in Dorch & was really impressed but it’s changed hands again & not for the better! Sony be returning!

Not anything special at all. A standard town high street pub. Beer was ok but not a great range of ales on tap. Lots of budget larger and cider Didn’t eat here because I was not inspired by the menu

Called in Wetherspoons and they had no burger rolls, so thought we’ed give the ship a go. What a mistake, the barman should have realised when we asked for a steak knife to cut a yorkie pudding. My Granddaughter asked for the Yorkshire pud filled with mash potatoes and three sausages. Well they were three tiny cocktail Yorkshire puds filled with instant mash and three cocktail sausages, the puds hadn’t been cooked but pinged in the microwave which instantly made them as hard as rock, totally inedible. Complained and chose lasagne, salad with garlic bread. Well it arrived with a tiny slither of lettuce one slice of tomato and one thin dried up piece of garlic bread. But the lasagne was one sheet of pasta over a dessertspoon of meat then topped up with about a kilo of melted cheese, to cap it all it was also burnt. Now as for the burgers, the rolls are obviously kept frozen then wacked in the microwave to defrost, resulting in a solid rock of bread. When the barman came over I wacked it on the table to show him how hard it was. We were the only people eating in the bar and they took an hour to produce a meal that was totally inedible. Will never cross the threshold again.

We should have known better when at first taking a look through the windows and the place was empty. Unfortunately we had cycled 20+ miles and were hungry, so we decided to venture in.... big mistake!!! Barmaid told us she was also the chef, and that they were serving Sunday Roast. We ordered 6 Roast beef and asked did they have horseradish sauce to go with the beef? ‘Course we do’ was the reply. After a laborious 40+ minute wait we’re were faced with what I can only describe as the worst Sunday Roast I have ever been presented with, and guess what... there was no horseradish sauce. The barmaid/chef??? then tried to make lite of this and said that someone had used it without her knowledge????? Not convinced it was even beef! To add insult to injury there was no real ale on tap, the guy that covered for the barmaid whilst she was in the kitchen was next to useless - he didn’t know how to make orange juice and lemonade!

Lovely pint of beer well looked after. Tasty great value and well cooked food. Engaging bar staff with personality who are very attentive and thoughtful. Offered to dry our jackets as it was tipping down. Thoroughly recommend the mixed grill washed down with a pint of Brakesbear. All the meat was tender and moist.

Stopped here for lunch because it was quiet, and I was in a hurry. The server was very friendly, but the food was pretty bad and not at all as advertised. It seems like they are trying to renovate and improve, but I would give them some time to sort out the kinks.

This is a pub who's main target audience is middle-aged women and obese men. It's a very very sad site, especially when the "DJ" cranks up Abba or even some 90s garage.... What...a...site. There's often bouncers outside, they do like to bully people. Not cool. It's a shame they have managed to retain their license. Avoid this pub, probably a good idea.

It seems as though the current owners have been trying to improve a lacklustre pub with smarter bar and improved menu. The draft ale was fine, but why so empty this lunchtime? Maybe much busier at night with B&B customers and late night drinkers. Dorchester needs proper pubs and I hope this one keeps going.

Cheese & Pickle baguette advertised on 'A' board outside, £3.10. Choice of "Chips" or "Salad" as an accompaniment offered at point of order. Saturday lunch-time. Bread stale, warmed through to disguise its age, filled with grated cheddar cheese. Served with a thimble-full of Branston and few Doritos. The bread had evidently become broken in two overnight, the pieces now arranged at an artistic angle to make a feature of that issue. Leathery bread, tastless cheese, Doritos with no dip are just Doritos. The tastiest item was the pickle. Yes, I should have complained at the time and normally would, but then you'd have had no idea, or warning, that The Old Ship Inn at Dorchester sells duff bar food.

We ordered pie and chips, and pie and salad. We got pie and chips twice. After pointing the out the discrepancy we got some salad. Good so far. We had to ask for dressing for the salad. Both pies had been micro-waved (beef and ale, and three cheese since you ask), consequently the pastry was not good. The service was good but the lager was warm - in this day and age!The pub next door was being refurbished, next time we go there.

Description says "Dorchester's newest Diner....... It offers you a fantastic selection of burgers, hot dogs, ribs and plenty more". Well I went in here in with my son on a sunny Saturday lunchtime, it was very empty. The menu was very limited and the selection of burgers was chicken or chicken as they had no beef, thought about fish &chips but they had no fish, so my son had a chicken burger. Fancied a salad myself, chicken or chicken on the menu but they did say I could have tuna and lettuce if I wanted. Settled for chicken wings and side salad. Menu had no imagination at all, apparently they were "between menu's" and this was the winter one. We sat in the garden, table was dirty (they did clean it when asked) garden felt a bit like a carpark. The new owner (started yesterday), was really friendly, very apologetic and probably cannot be blamed for the pub's faults. He has a new menu starting soon, will be in control of stock (so no running out!) and he has plans for the garden which sound really good. There were flower pots and newly planted flowers and I do think this is a place to watch out for as the food was very very good, so was the service and the staff all friendly and welcoming. The inside of the pub was clean, as were the toilets and it was very good value. I will be be returning just to see what he achieves, I hope he manages to pull some customers from weatherspoons.

My wife and I called into 'The Old Ship' for the first time in many years mainly because my feet were sore and I didn't want to risk a Wetherspoons experience a few doors up. We were totally amazed at the transformation that had taken place behind it's familiar frontage. It had had a major re-fit, the staff and regular customers were very jovial and most important of all, the ale was crystal clear and tasted as the brewery intended. We will go back to this pub the next time we visit Dorchester with time on our hands

Had a meal here last week. The inside of this pub has been done up in the last few years. It has a pleasant feel to it - different decor etc from the other pubs in town which all seem to follow much the same pattern.Plenty to chose from on the menu and a specials board too. A few choices are a bit different from the standard pub food. The food we had tasted home-made and was very reasonably priced. The service was also very good. I will defintely go again.
