Lovely little local, great food and friendly staff

Must have driven past this place thousands of times and never once thought to go in. Just by chance, I was in the area and decided to pay it a spontaneous visit and I’m so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with amazing hospitality and instantly felt right at home. The walls and furniture tell a thousand stories, and I love that it's kept all of its vintage decor from back in the day, it adds a really pleasant and cosy charm to the place. I ordered a Guinness to try (which I never usually do), and now I understand the hype..it was absolutely gorgeous! I also ordered the halloumi burger meal, and let me tell you, that was some of the most crispy, light, and flavourful batter I’ve ever had. The halloumi itself was soft, gooey, and just melted in your mouth. The triple-cooked chips were spot on too, I could’ve easily eaten a whole bucket of them! Chunky, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, fresh to order and cooked to perfection 👌 The only small criticism I could give is that the coleslaw could have been homemade but that’s not going to affect my score, as I had a great time at The Old Packet House. I’ll definitely be coming back again. What a hidden gem!

Hi guys. Would just like to thank you for going the extra mile today and making us most welcome. We reserved a table so my brother (who’s in a wheelchair) could watch the match. It was in pole position right in front of the TV. He had a BRILLIANT time. Food great Guinness great staff great who could ask for more. Thanks so much guys. Lovely proper pub. Came in on Mother’s Day for lunch, excellent service and great food! Was served by Freya who was super friendly and helpful, definitely recommend coming for Sunday lunch!

Atmosphere is great as the people in the pub can play music on the jukebox, lily was absolutely lovely and she was great service and company. She was lovely to talk to and made my experience very pleasent.

The service and environment were amazing! The staff are so nice, especially Lily who made us all feel so welcome and was so accommodating to our needs! She constantly made sure we were okay and the food was unbelievable. I strongly recommend visiting the Old Packet House, i loved it! Thankyou

Visited on a quiet Friday lunchtime for a quick bite to eat and a drink. Chicken in a basket and a coke for £7 was where the both of us landed and it was great. Lovely food and a good portion size, absolute bargain. Staff were spot on as well. Cannot fault the visit one bit 👍

Came in for a lovely meal. Got served by kyle, he was very polite and nice. I'm sure all the older ladies agreed cause he had them giggling for hours.

Absolutely beautiful food, freshly made. Nicest meal out we have had for a very long time. My husband said the Guinness was beautiful too... Staff are lovely and make you welcome and are very helpful especially as I was in a wheelchair.

We went early Sunday afternoon for a quick drink and lunch. The food was good, the ambiance was calm, friendly and comfortable, and the service was good - very smiley and helpful waitress.

It was a sad occasion (funeral tea), but the food, service, and ambience were all excellent. We'll be back.

Absolutely amazing place, 2nd time visiting and was just as good as we remembered, staff are so friendly and remembered us from our first visit, the lamb roast was stunning and the cocktails were up there with the best I have had, a brilliant little hidden gem and we will be back 😄

We popped in here for a pint after a hike. They had a good selection of beers and their Guinness was great.

If you want to have a taste of an authentic British pub atmosphere this is a great place to go. Isn't a turistic place, it's a cozy and warm pub with many locals having a great time. The food is amazing and their beer selection is great. It's a great place to watch sports and have a good time during their events. In summer you can enjoy your drink on their beer garden. I recommend it.

Often eat at the old packet house when working in Altringham .I swear the food gets better every time I eat here .Just had a well done steak it was perfect Sirloin tasted like a Fillet.Would recommend all day long

I cannot begin to tell you how amazing the food is in here. Their steaks are some of the best I have ever had and they are cooked to perfection. The gammon is so succulent it melts in the mouth and is a generous size too. The skin on fries are an absolute dream. You have to try the place, honestly, it's incredible.

I haven't been in since about 1987. All the regulars are probably dead now. I'll pop in to see how it is now. Ian. Aged 61. Was an okay pub when I lived on Navigation Rd. But that was from 1985 - 1989.

Disappointing..used to be a good pub many years ago..Beer was of a poor quality despite paying a high price of £4.60 They do show sports tho.

Best fish ever light crispy batter with skin on chips mushy peas and tartare sauce. All served on lovely hot plates Highly recommend

Had a beautiful Easter Sunday lunch 🐣. Has a roast lamb very tasty, plenty and lovely food. My husband had a beautiful vegetarian thai green curry. This was very tasty full of flavour and plentiful. Would definitely recommend The old packet 5* and 100% service. ❤️

We booked via the website for 17 people on a Saturday afternoon. The staff were very helpful in accommodating us. Service was exemplary and the food quality excellent. All meals, including the children’s were served together and hot! All round great experience and we’ll definitely book again soon. Hats off to Carl, Sharni and staff at The Old Packet.

Had a lovely lunch at this cosy, traditional pub, - very reasonably priced, food was delicious and the staff were friendly. A good pint of Timmy Taylors rounded it off nicely.

Staff are friendly & helpful. Food is excellent, the Chef obviously takes pride in everything that goes out. Will definitely be back on my next visit

Was in Altrincham shopping and fancied lunch went to the Old packet house. Noticed lovely open fire , Sunday lunch was class. Very tasty. Have been repeat visitors since.

Good selection of beer and good food. The Packet Platter today was spot on. Traditional pub with an open fire on winter days and friendly bar staff. Thursday night open mic evening too which is a good night too. Friendly local pub which is well worth a visit.

Great food, traditional Sunday lunch. Good value and excellent service

Was pleasantly surprised when we visited. We needed to find somewhere to eat as our daughter was in a show at the Altrincham Garrick Play House. The food was excellent. I had fish and chips and the portion size was just right. The waitress who served us was also very pleasant and helpful.

Held a wake here recently. The staff were wonderful. So friendly. Food was great and pub clean and welcoming. Would definitely go again and recommend to all. The only thing I woukd say is that they need to sweep the pavement outside the pub. It let's it down. Give it a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised. 😊

Called in 04/09/23 and was very pleasantly surprised. Had a snack which was delicious and a couple of hand pulled pints of Blonde bitter which was fab! I will definitely go again & overall 5*****'s from me!

First time visiting the old packet . Staff were so friendly, served us at our table, food was delicious and was served realy quickly. Lovley atmosphere, very clean and tidy, will definitely go again.

The food was amazing. We didn't wait long for it to come out. The portions were generous and were pipping hot! There was a high chair for my baby and we sat in a lovely area away from the bar. The bar man couldn't do enough for us, kept coming over, making sure we had enough to drink and had everything we needed. Will definitely be going back very soon!

Great friendly staff, with home made food.

Only two cask ales on when I visited. This seems to be a good pub for Guinness, judging by the number of people drinking it. My pint of a Yorkshire brew was top notch.
