As a rule I don't generally order food from cafe's because it doesn't arrive as nice (no reflection on anyone's delivery) but my delivery from here was perfect as nice as when we go in. Yummy 😋

24/11/24 Called in on off chance for breakfast, first time here, food was good place clean and friendly and reasonably priced. Only criticism is the smell of cigarette smoke waffting in from the back door put me off from calling again.

I first heard of these guys online and ordered. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality, taste, heat and quantity of food. Then I decided to visit the place, and top marks. Staff and service was flawless. Beautiful setting and food, just spot on, once again. I have become a regular customer of the old market tavern. Keep It up, guys. Thanx. Xx

Great food and drinks, friendly service. Seating inside also outside to the front and the rear. My current favourite meal here is the smoked salmon and spring onion omelette which comes with a huge fresh salad. Delicious.

Food stopped serving at 5pm and place closes at 6pm on Friday due to current quietness. The coleslaw is to die for (wish I could have the recipe for home). Chicken burger was delicious. Service was excellent, from taking my initial phone query right until I closed my tab out. It was very quiet at half 4 which further confirmed the earlier closing. Very friendly, informative and I'd definitely recommend.

Visited this little gem for the first time 6/4/23. Very pleased with the service, lovely atmosphere and the food was fab. I ordered the gammon. It came with chips, a fried egg that was cooked perfect and a chargrilled pineapple slice. It is up there with the best gammon I’ve eaten in a long time. I would very happily return in the future.

4 of us visited saturday 25th feb i had chicken curry absolutely delicious it was . All day breakfast was also a hit to followed by gammon also . No complaints here staff were very help full atmosphere was fab well done will absolutely call again 👌

Have come to the Market Tavern for Friday drinks a while. Recently have started to have food too. Andy and his team are wonderful. Always friendly and welcomes us as regulars. The food is delicious and served in good time. All staff are friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere. Good portion sizes too. My favourite place in Neath.

I'd missed Wetherspoons breakfast by one minute but managed to get a fabulous breakfast at the Market Tavern. It was delicious, great value and the staff are lovely. I sat outside in the sunshine but inside is clean, contemporary and air conditioned. Also a good selection of cold beers and wines

Floor creaking with staff and a heavy foot walking on floor boards can get really irritating and particularly noticeable when waiting for food to arrive. Wait time was 40-45minutes. Not much available as vegan or lactose free, I asked, but staff member couldn’t answer. So good note for people with dietary requirements. Cheese toastie was lovely, but should’ve been named coldie, but was lovely nonetheless. Chips, were okay, I’d describe them as thin chips with skin, resembling wedges. We were asked if we wanted ice in our drinks, we both said no, I was given JD n Coke with ice. Style was a bit mismatched inside, deco may need a look at. It’s a bistro, smells like an old bistro, but then the deco of the place didn’t give off the right feel. With a tv you’d find in a pub not a bistro. Place feels like it’s trying to be too much for different demographics, it didn’t work for me, but who’s to say it wasn’t to other peoples taste, cause they are clearly pulling in customers, definitely a busy place always. My friends hunter’s chicken meal was wasted and chicken was wrapped up to take home for our dogs. She said she’d return if it was just was a sandwich but unlikely we’ll return again overall. What our take on it is that it’s a place to go for a tea or coffee during your shop and if you do go for a nibble then aim for a sandwich. Cheese sticks were lovely, but cheesy garlic bread had way too much garlic on it that you couldn’t even taste the cheese, both my friend and I struggled to eat just one of them.

Called in mid-morning when visiting in-laws in the area. Jolly, efficient service. Others enjoyed their bacon sandwiches, whereas I had a great cooked breakfast; the first time I've ever had one with chips included! All good; would definitely go back when the opportunity arose. Prices very reasonable.

My wife and I visited this place while passing through the area. Lovely place the front of house staff were polite and nothing was to much trouble for them. The kitchen team did a great job of the food I had ham and tomato omelette which came with a lovely dressed side salad and I had chips has a extra. My wife had lasagne and that came with same lovely side salad has my meal and garlic toast both meals came out the kitchen in good time and were hot and nicely presented. Both meals were very nice and reasonably priced. The drinks were good there was a few ciders and soft drinks as well has the normal ales etc. Covid measures were in place with hand sanitisers on the entrance and exit and staff wearing face masks and tables being wiped down and sanitised regularly between customers. If you ever in the area it's well worth a visit to this lovely place you will not be disappointed.

Tucked away at the back of Neath Market is a little licenced coffee cafe in The old Market Tavern formerly a public house. A friendly welcome whether you want a cup of coffee and read the papers or order a meal. Very reasonably priced and the best coffee in Neath, I visit regularly..

We call nearly every week at this lovely place. Always a warm welcome and efficient service.The portions are generous with top class produce. There is plenty of choice for breakfast or lunch.The coffee is perfect too!.We have tried many cafes in Neath but this is the definite favourite.

Was firstly impressed that theres a side entrance with ramp for disabled access, meals were v.reasonably priced and of high standard only same they close at 5pm inc sat.Slight disapointment at v.limeted selection of bar drinks although was told this will soon change as new stock is on order as we speak as youd say, would deffo go back if in neath

After walking around a dreary wet Neath on a Saturday we came across the Old Market Tavern. Went inside was quite busy but was shown to a table by Gareth with a smile. Gareth set the table for us and brought both the menus , we ordered a big breakfast and a crunchy chicken Ciabatta with homemade coleslaw and skinny fries with the skins on plus two teas. Food duly arrived, freshly cooked lovely presentation and to be honest not what we had come to expect from a place off the main road. The food was lovely 2 sausages 2 large bacon grilled tomato beans and lovely fresh mushrooms. 2 pieces of fresh brown toast and 3 butters ( you always have to ask for more but not in this case. Crunchy chicken was served with sweet chilli sauce and salad and was delicious, I know because I tried some as well. We spoke to Gerwyn the owner when he brought us our second pot of tea which was lovely and told him how nice the food was. No cheap teabags here. I would recommend making a beeline here off the main road well worth the visit.
