Food is ok if you eat in but takeaway is poor. They offer takeaway kebab shop style food and it is very poor and greasy. Disappointed overall.

Fantastic food and service. Would highly recommend. Massive bonus being able to bring you own drinks. Lovely interior in beamed dining room.

Love the food and the service here. Love to eat in as it’s really nicely decorated - could even be romantic! The owner’s are great and will make you what you want. Take away is also good and they deliver. There is a well stocked bar but you can take your own booze and there’s no extra charges- they are happy to open your bottles and provide glasses. Just wish my waistline would allow me to go more often!

Beautiful restaurant with beams etc Table settings and restaurant itself well roomy and beautifully set our and extremely clean. Staff were very lovely and very welcoming and accommodating. But the food. Well what can I say. It was absolutely gorgeous. My family and I came away full to the brim because they are certainly generous with the helpings. 10/10 for the food. Couldn’t fault it. The prices are excellent also certainly expected to pay alot more for what we all ate. 10/10 too for allowing customers to bring in there own drinks. It’s definitely something I have never come across before. Thank you all and well done 3 happy customers. We shall definitely be back.

A group of 6 went in Friday without booking they were very busy, we had a drink at the bar while we were waiting for a table to be available. We enjoyed very much the food and service was excellent. The staff were amazing always attending when require, could not fault anything will definitely be back and with our own booze which we was unaware of.

Ordered tandoori chicken for me. It arrived looking like roast chicken, yellowy in colour. Tried it and left it. Husbands chicken tikka masala sauce tasted bland and as if it had come out a very cheap branded bottle. Sliced plain looking chicken in the sauce not cubes of chicken. Did not complain as he ate his chicken! Rice and naan was nice. Only one lady serving, gave up waiting for her to come to ask if we wanted coffee (could not see a coffee machine) so we went up to the counter to pay. Went there on recommendation but never again.

Ordered over 20.00 pounds worth of food. I was told an hour to wait which was fine for a Saturday night. Was actually l hour and 10 minutes. Butter chicken, rice and peshwari naan cold. Butter chicken tasteless. I'm assuming an off night, but l don't have money to throw away.

Great food, excellent service, reasonably priced and a good ambience. Not so loud you couldn't have a conversation and the food was sooo flavoursome. Would recommend 👌

Dined as a family of four and found the restaurant to be an absolute delight. The beamed dining area is beautiful and the service was first class. The food was spot on and as a group we all enjoyed what we hade. Highly recommended.

This restaurant serves excellent authentic Indian and south Asian dishes using fresh ingredients and a fabulous range of spice blended to create delicious dishes. We had lamb shashlik bhuna and prawn rogan Josh amongst other dishes. Wonderful warm flavours and good portions. Service was attentive and polite and the atmosphere was friendly and lively. Special bonus was that it’s BYO drinks, this encourages more spending on good quality dishes which are hard to create at home whilst saving on over priced drinks that other establishments charge for. Overall 10/10 for food quality, value for money and service, we will be back 👍

First time here and it was incredible from start to finish Food was amazing, staff so helpful and friendly LOVE the fact it’s a BYO with no corkage charge and they give you fully frosted ice buckets to chill your wine in. Brilliant for those on a budget or who have a specific taste in wine or beer!! Fabulous attractive village. Wonderful friendly welcoming staff. Most importantly extremely delicious food. I had prawn shaslic so delicious three large succulent prawns loads of sizzling veg and salad perfect. My husband loved Biriani vegetable as he's a vegetarian. Naans cooked to perfection. Was very busy but we still had great service and attention.

Had a takeaway last night for the first time from the Old Counting House; Having moved to teh area recently we're trying to find our 'go to' Indian - and seems we've found it! Food was excellent, the delivery was faster than expected and the service on the phone and from the delivery driver was so courteous!!

I saw a customer getting berated by the manager because they had sent some food back. Up until that point I had figured that the food was OK, but the level of aggression and rudeness from the manager was totally uncalled for over something so minor, you should be ashamed of yourself. Also, if you're going to manage a restaurant, perhaps consider putting your clothes through the laundry if you're going to be out chatting to customers, ripped jeans is one thing but filthy jeans is quite another.

Absolutely fantastic dining experience as always, food is superb would recommend the lamb Korai. Hospitality is so welcoming and they now allow you to BRING YOUR OWN BOOZE with no corkage which reduces the bill. 5 STAR

The Counting House has gone down hill big time. Watery prawn dhansak with teeny shrimp, not prawns, inedible dried out bhajis, tasteless chicken chatt masala, pilau rice with no saffron. Awful, bland, tasteless food. And not cheap. Could get a far superior Chinese take away for half the price; but you know that feeling when you just really fancy a decent Indian meal?? Well, this wasn’t it.

We had a Sunday buffet from here a week ago and it was honestly one of the best buffets we’ve had, the portion size was perfect and got what you pay you’re getting far more. I would highly recommend this place for people to get a tasty takeaway from, the staff are amazing and the deliveries are always on time.

Hate to write a bad review, however our takeaway tonight was pretty dismal. When we called up the chap on the phone he was rude, ordered our food under the '£9.95 buffet promotion' this was to include two mains, two sides and two starters (double all of this overall for the both of us at 19.90). Thought this was quite good value for money. When we brought it home, we found dismal portions of food we hadn't even ordered! And stuff missing. The two sides were simply one small pakora and one small onion bjahi (the latter of which we hadn't even ordered, we had ordered lamb samosa instead!). We were meant to have 4 sides, three rice and one of chips, only given 1 rice and 1 chips! Then my boyfriend was given sagoloo he hadn't ordered and I was given chicken tikka I hadn't order. Pretty rubbish overall. Used to eat at and get takeaways from the old counting house a lot, but I'm afraid unless they amend this experience, this will be my last visit. Very Disappointed.

Lovely big portions with an emphasis on providing large portions of meat within each dish. Many Indian, Thai, and Chinese restaurants are often scarce with their meat to rice ratio, however the Haughley Indian make a point to provide the best quality and amount in each meal!The restaurant has a quaint little bar with a wide variety of liquor's, wine, and beer. The owner and staff will often pour extra ;) for regular's and even newcomers. The owner is determined to ensure the customer receives the best customer service!If something does go wrong with an order, the customer is often compensated in some way. Last nights takeaway was amazing, the best Indian we have had for a long time, delicious dishes full of flavour. We will definitely be back for more, thank you!

We have previously travelled to eat in at The Old Counting House several times but this was our first takeaway experience brought on by Covid 19 restrictions. Although viewing the menu on line was difficult due to a website glitch, ordering over the phone was very easy. Collection was simple and all 6 dishes we ordered were machine labelled. We were advised the cost at time of ordering. At £44, (4 mains and 2 starters) perhaps not the cheapest take out curry you will buy, but it may well be the best! A great authentic taste. Staff were all so polite and helpful and the Chef delivered our order at collection. We shall definitely be back for another takeaway soon and hopefully not too long before we can have the dine-in experience too.

Been before and was pretty good, this time awful, poor service cold food no soap or towels in toilet, had to keep beckoning to the staff ... just don't bother go somewhere else and spend your hard earnt money

We visited with friends chose a selection of dishes from the menu all of which were very good indeed. My dhansak was one of the best versions I’ve had anywhere. Even the desert menu offered more choice than is usual in an Indian restaurant and two of us were tempted. The men drank the Cobra beer while we ladies had a bottle of Argentinian merlot which was beautifully smooth. A very satisfactory evening.

First visit to this restaurant but not over impressed, friendly welcome by owner, tables very well set with linen and clean. Drinks ordered and good warm pomadoms, order taken a little while before we got the food 3ok but one tandoori chicken undercooked on bone offered samosa very good. Main courses very good and tasty and hot something different with menu to other restaurants. Very quiet no atmosphere and owner not that smart but have been there 17 years so people must enjoy food we will go again but not regularly

From start to finish our experience was wonderful. A friend and I came for a Friday night meal and we weren't disappointed. We regularly have takeaways which are superb. But this time, we decided to sit in and enjoy the wonderful quirky building and be served by the cheerful and enthusiastic waiters and waitresses.The food was delicious and there was nothing to fault. I would recommend the old counting house to anyone it is worth the trip! We look forward to trying the Sunday buffet next.

Had a takeaway on Saturday night I can honestly say it was one of the worst ! Watery tasteless! Grease was floating on top of all the dishes ! What a waste meat was chewy never again

For a Friday evening the restaurant was busy but not overcrowded. They have a few unusual dishes which was a change from the usual Indian. We had popadoms and starters before moving on to the main dishes, which were all tasty. There appeared to be only one waiter actually serving (although there were others taking orders) and he spent time on the phone whilst serving. They need more people on a busy night.

If you like Indian food pay a visit to the Old Counting House,Haughley. It is a buffet style eating so you can eat as much or little as you like the staff are friendly and the food was very tasty it's a country style building not a lot of space to move around but when you're settled down the staff will help you with your bar orders,a lovely setting in a quiet village, give it a try.

This Indian is fine for a takeaway, but the atmosphere in the restaurant is terrible. Usually only a couple of tables used at a time and it doesn't make for a good night out.

Have not been for a while but thought would try again as it is local to us not very busy only 1 guy serving wife ordered lamb and they said they do not have lamb only something else which is still real lamb thought ok so just went with it but was not very good only ate half I had chicken paneer which was tasteless next table ordered king prawn dish and got chicken which went back as lady was vegetarian and heard other people ask for lamb dishes and get told something about having something else but it’s still real lamb residents of Haughley check your cat is still about will not return

I ordered a takeaway and was told, ready in 30mins. I duely arrived to be told it would be another 5mins 20mins later the carrier bag arrived with a sorry for your wait. I stupidly did not check it was all there: I was minus the nan bread which I had ordered instead of rice, all thy could do over the telephone was to offer a refund NEXT time. My chicken jalfrezi was good, my onion bhajis were dry and over cooked. My partner's king prawn biryani was tepid and needed reheating. I have been here several times, the food is good but the service needs drastic improvement

The food was amazing and the spices were well- balanced. I was staying at the travelodge and this is the closest restaurant to walk to. To be honest I wasn’t expecting this quality from a small town Indian restaurant. I am so pleasantly impressed by the service, the atmosphere, and the food. If you are in Stowmarket, it’s worth the drive or the walk to get here.

The old saying anything tastes good when your pissed , even this wouldn’t pass the test . Chicken had different flavours obviously been reused from someone else’s plate - marinated in curry powder water and served up like a soup - to return never again
