You can easily miss this pub from the roadside, but worth the effort finding it. An interesting selection of beers, warm atmosphere inside. On a fair weather day the outside back garden is lovely. There is obviously a group of regulars so the vibe is very welcoming and friendly. Worth a visit for a personal and traditional pub!

Came here on a solo journey. Absolutely amazing cask ales from Colchester Brewery, especially Raven porter. Fairly quiet on a Wednesday, but absolutely loads of space. Definitely worth a visit.

Wonderful pub, one of my favourites in Colchester. Wonderful land staff and generally Wonderful vibes. Great alcohol selection, very reasonably priced and locally brewed ales. The beer garden is a surprising anomaly as you wouldn't expect it to be tucked away behind a seemingly small pub, from an outside perspective.

Proper old fashioned Pub with good local beer. Precious few remain. Very happy to recommend.

They don't do food. Absolutely amazing pub. Tom and Bex who run it are a fantastic couple. So many different events going on there, and a wide range of people who go to the pub. Excellent garden space as well. Highly recommend.

Lovely little local pub, proper quirky in a great way with lovely helpful bar staff. Decent range of beers, better than most pubs as it is a freehouse, which makes it even better. It's a little outside of town, but nothing bad in that. Colchester Brewing Company range of beers on top as well as other brewers. Well worth venturing outside of town to see how great pubs used to be!

This pub doesn't look much from the road, in fact most of the time I have walked past it looks closed...! Much brighter when you go in, and loads of choice of drinks. There is a garden area at the back with a few benches, and with it being at the back of the pub, it hides a bit of the road noise.

This place has been almost a landmark in Colchester for as long as I can remember. There have definitely been some improvements of late, the garden is really lovely. Just wish they'd get Guinness on then it would be perfect

If you like TV, fruit machines and gourmet food, don't go there! However, if you like excellent beer, friendly staff, clean toilets, friendly dogs, niche areas.....then do visit.

Had a truly 'local pub' atmosphere, staff chatting away with patrons and sharing many laughs. Great choice of local ales and ciders. Delightful beer garden to sit in on a sunny day.

First visit ever and really enjoyed it. Lovely ambience with all the candles lit and it was very clean and tidy with no clutter. The Ladies toilet was gleaming! I was so impressed! Great service from Lesley who loves working there. My Partner thoroughly enjoyed his pint! Definately going to go back!

One of my favourite real ale pubs in the whole country. Always visit when seeing friends in Colchester.

Probably the best ale house in Colchester. Its a hidden gem but don't let the map fool you its only a few minutes walk from town. Very old fashioned looking pub with a good ale and cider selection. Only thing I miss is they used to have a little glass snack cupboard on the bar with things like tunnocks tea cakes which has now gone.

A Colchester institution, it wasn't always to my taste, but over last few years has changed for the better, still has the character and good beer, but now feels welcoming, and is a great place to hang out and relax. Beer garden is gorgeous and perfect place to spend a summers afternoon.

Good beers brewed by Colchester Brewery. A lot of time has been spent making the garden attractive with plenty of socially distanced seating areas. Entry is through back gate to garden. Sign in to NHS app on entry. Hand sanitizer on table. There are steps down into the garden and to different levels in the garden, but staff will help you and there is some seating at the bottom of the steps. Car park is nearby if needed as is Colchester Town railway station.

The garden has been transformed very well with much more space than before and service is very friendly and efficient.

The guys have worked hard to make the garden a beautiful place to sit and have a few pints of very good, well kept beer in a Covid safe environment.

Always been one of my favourite pubs. Unfussy for a good chat with friends. Colchester brewery's beers are some of the best. Covid restrictions taken seriously.

What an experience.... Place needs a refurb desperately. But asides from the very unusual layout, the drinks are cheap and the staff are friendly. Their garden has so much potential and I expect is beautiful in the summer month's. Very friendly atmosphere

I'd never been to The Odd One Out before,l was struck with the very pleasant atmosphere, but was disappointed with the technical hitches they had to contend with that night.

Too many Norwegians Edit: was very drunk when I wrote this with my Norwegian friends. Very great place! Would reccomend.

Traditional pub. No mobile phones allowed good selection of beers and ciders and a nice coal fire in winter. Don't expect luxurious decor though this place is basic.

The Oddie is a proper pub. Very very welcoming - great bear and great company - I don't go there nearly enough!!

Lots of potential, beer range is excellent from Colchester Brewery. Might be that we went in about an hour and a bit before quiz night started but there was a slightly strange atmosphere. Not bad but just slightly odd. Worth a look though. Especially with a lot of friends in tow or a quiet couples drink. Not a family oriented place though and no hot food served as there is no kitchen. The whole place needs a lick of paint: the toilet doors have bits of paper with 'Ladies' and 'Gents' written on them and stuck to the door. I get the feeling that they are in the process of slowly doing the place up. Once this is done and with a warmer welcome from the bar staff this place could be fantastic. I'll put it down to work in progress. 3 stars for now but hopefully 5 later in the year.

Old English pub under control of local Colchester Brewery, serving a range of brewery beers and various special offerings. Has a whisky bar featuring some 48 whiskys. Worth a visit.
