The food was amazing. We always thought ELIF in norton was our go to place not any more. This place blows it out the water and the meals are half the price. Beautiful decor inside and the staff are all very helpful. Will deffo be returning soon.

Headed here for our anniversary meal and we were blown away. The food was incredible, would definitely recommend the hummus and lamb to start it was delicious. We had the lamb kebab and yogurt chicken for mains - both were amazing. Huge portions and really succulent tasty meat. Staff were super attentive, was really nice that they asked if we’d like to wait to eat our main meals given we’d polished off so many of the starters! Will definitely be back, amazing food service and value for money

Fabulous Turkish dinner experience, visited on the basis of a review from a local paper and they weren’t wrong. Food was amazing, service 1st class, staff very friendly and informative with a good knowledge of all the items on the menu. Portions were plentiful and even received a Free portion of Baklava as couldn’t manage to eat another thing!! Ambiance was perfect great lighting and music. Will definitely be returning to sample their new ‘Lunch Menu’

Go here regularly. Not aware it has been taken over. Ordered grilled beef and onion pannini with onion gravy. Came on a dry baguette no gravy, masses of awful salad in baguette with a few pieces of beef on top, no onions or gravy. Other orders incorrect. The staff were hovering over us throughout the meal, very off putting. Will be finding somewhere new for our monthly catch up

We went tonight not knowing it had been taken over. I have never been so disappointed in my life, they’ve changed their drinks to cheap alternatives such as inch’s instead of aspall and Brixton instead of Laines. The food was dreadful. Kids chicken goujons (3) small, thin and overcooked I couldn’t cut them with my steak knife! I am not usually one to complain but they were inedible and were sent back. The replacements were better but still shocking. I feel so sorry for the lovely waitresses but if I was them I’d be getting another job as all they’ll get is complaints. We will definitely not be back. I just wish I’d seen the other reviews before we went!

Avoid at all costs it’s vile. Nothing at all was enjoyable about our experience tonight. The Parmo looked and tasted as if it was cooked last week and served today the photo from other customers below is exactly what to expect, the chips tastes as if they had been soaked in what can only be described as old stagnant larger. Full of young staff that couldn’t care less, spent the majority of the night stood outside the kitchen doors talking amongst themselves while there was tables waiting to be served and tables that needed clearing. Such a let down when the previous owners made such an effort

Have always enjoyed visiting the Oak Tree so went for lunch on Saturday. Was aware the restaurant was under new ownership but was surprised to see the old menu has been replaced. I would normally order the scampi but this wasn’t on the new menu so went with the Parmo which was awful. We will not be returning

Visited last night for the first time since the Oak Tree was taken over. We usually are regular visitors at the pub, but unfortunately last night was our last visit. Even though the place was busy, we were disappointed in the evening and the changes that had been made. We did not realise the menu had been changed and it has not been changed for the better. Real lack of choice now, and a pretty non-existent childrens menu which has now changed to burgers and chicken wings (which young child can eat chicken wings?) Ended up just asking for plain pasta, which was still brought out covered in garlic butter! Adults both had parmesans, which came our extremely greasy, and with terrible chips... this pub used to serve the best proper chips. Other small changes which just didn't make the pub feel as nice as it used to, cheap plastic bottles of morrisons vinegar on the tables, decking steps into the tent area broken and a tripping hazard with no tape or mat over them, dirty menus just printed on plain paper. Sad that this was our experience, and now going to have to find a new Friday night pub to frequent.

Not great. We’ve been here quite a bit since it re-opened and with each visit the food has gotten worse - this latest visit was the worst food we’ve had so far. Lamb chop starter was truly dreadful, I understand lamb can be fatty but these were 80% fat and white, uncooked, grisly, inedible fat at that. One of us had what was called cheesecake on the menu but it was a weird rubbery consistency and nothing like cheesecake. We did tell our waiter but all we got was a mumbled “sorry” and he just took our plates away and never came back to our table. It’s such a shame as it was quite nice when it originally re-opened, wonder why it seems to be going downhill.

Read some indifferent reviews but decided to give it a go as the location next to the airport was a key factor, lunch and straight to the airport. This was one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had, really enjoyed it and will visit again, staff were very polite and helpful. We booked a table for 12.20 and were seated upon arrival, it was not really busy at that time but it had filled up by the time we were leaving, as for a table in the main building, but to be fair, the outside seating area may suit others.

I am gutted actually . Firstly the staff were fantastic. Me and my wife went today . She ordered a Sunday lunch well done beef . It came out rare and pink with rotten carrots on it . I ordered a Parmesan which came out microwaved to scalding hot with a very small amount of cheddar cheese scattered in the middle . Both meals came out within minutes of ordering . We had both walked 3 miles to get there to be so let down . We complained . We finished our drinks which cost £11 then we left . I even give them £15 which included a tip . The reason I am putting this on here is not to complain although you ruined our day . It’s to let you know you need to sort your kitchen staff out . The young ladies serving and the guy behind the bar were lovely . Sorry to do this but you need to sort things out it’s very rare I complain and it’s put me off coming back . Do something about this please back

Booked last minute for a late Sunday lunch. It was very busy but our table was ready & food & service were both excellent. Highlights were the Sirloin (appreciate being asked whether I wanted medium or well done), the Salted Caramel Cheesecake which was incredible & Charlotte who smiles non stop & made us feel very welcome. Great that it's dog friendly throughout.

I’m not surprised at the last few reviews as I have just witnessed an absolute shambles of a meal ! Me and my husband use to go here all the time in the summer as the food and people use to be polite ! Brought my mother and sister who lives quite a distance away for lunch my mother found a hair in her food and was disgusted but she was polite about it and told the young waitress who was lovely and apologised and said she would take it of the bill which was fine until the head chef neringa came matching out with an awful attitude and and demanded out 2 children would turn the phones down and that she owned the pub ! Clearly furious my mother found her ginger blonde hair on her food she thought she had authority to come out in that manner we was all in the state of absolute shock and at that point got up to leave baring in mind we had two children one 5 and one thats 3 that was sat at a table and never once moved or ran about ! One of the young waitresses that actually had nice manners could of easily came and said could we turn the kids phones down nicely and we would of gladly done it but no way will she come out shouting around my young children She then came back out raising her voice up in my face at me because we refused to pay for the food we didn't eat as we had to leave as they didn't make us feel welcome we offered to pay for the drinks but was told to leave and never come back ! We will never go back again and the food gone totally down hill and Niringa wants to wear a hair net in future and tie her hair up and cut her bloody nails!! awful hygiene!!! Chris you was calm and I think you was just as shocked as us but neringa you’re wife needs to learn some manners!

Boy has this place gone downhill. It used to be my ‘go to for a special Sunday lunch’ place! Went today with a friend and a 5 year old child and despite the 3 degree temperature they sat us outside in a ‘tent’ sort of structure with a 6” gap between the floor and the start of the thin material that was all there was between us and the elements. Despite a whole load of heaters, it was FREEZING. Grey, pinched faces huddled in their outdoor coats whilst they ate the rapidly cooling food. When it came to the food obviously it wasn’t just space that was an issue. They clearly hadn’t increased their food order but instead just shared the food between more people . If they were hoping for a loaves and fishes event, I’m afraid they will have been disappointed. You might have thought the plates had been prepared by the borrowers, the portion was so small! The spoonful of gravy, didn’t even manage to cover the one, charred roast potato but, when we asked for extra gravy we were charged £1.50 for a tiny pot! What restaurant charges for extra gravy??? We ordered a child’s sausage, mash and peas, but got, sausage mash carrots and broccoli. The child won’t eat vegetables except peas, so that was wasted. The ‘adult’ meals were supposed to come with a bowl of vegetables. Half way through eating we reminded the waitress that we still hadn’t got the vegetables. She said she was sorry, but didn’t bring any. My friend ordered a glass of red wine that, after a reminder, finally turned up as my friend finished her meal. We complained at the end that we hadn’t been given the bowl of vegetables and the child’s meal wasn’t as ordered. The waitress said she was sorry. Clearly greed has replaced quality. Cramming in more people to increase the takings at the expense of comfort and a decent meal. So disappointing.

Our friends arrived and needed to park in the ‘disabled car park area’. Unaware that adjacent to the car park is an extended metal structure support which my punctured his tyre beyond repair. The RAC sorted him out but in order to prevent other disabled car owners from suffering the same damage he mentioned this to the owner. We were all totally shocked when his reply was “your the driver you should have looked where you were going” Need I write anymore!!!

We are a friendly group of old friends & meet up every 2 weeks, today was at The Oak Tree. We are a party of eight with one couple needing disability parking & seating which was stated on booking. Car park was very small & full so our disabled person had difficulty parking, the only space that was left had a large unistiut right on the space, so as the car went into the space the tyre caught the unistiut, our friend Brian then had to phone RAC for help,on arrival was informed it was a right off & needed a new tyre. Having sorted this all out with the RAC & getting a new tyre fitted, he mentioned it to the owner of the pub while we were ordering our meal, his answer was gob smacking “ he didn’t see a problem with the unistiut it was his driving 🙈. Unbelievable not a sorry or any kind words. This is eight customer he has lost. Bring back some hospitality PLEASE.

Booked a table for 1.30 wedensday lunch time. Arrived at 1.25 with elderly mother. We were then told we were too early and go to sit in tent outside until table was ready!!! When I questioned why they were saying we were too early I was told the slot was booked for 1.40!!!??? I explained that I would not book a table for 40 mins past the hr it was booked for 1.30. I was then argued with about the timings to which I did not except. I then explained that my mother could not climb the stairs they were expecting to which I was ignored and the waitress promptly walked away! We were sat out side in the tent to which it was raining in for 15 mins. My mother was by then very cold. The manager was rude and was not interested in the slightest. No one came and offered us a drink while we sat in the wet and cold we were just ignored. At 1.45 we were offered a seat in the warm . The only good experience was the young girl that served us and the food was lovely. I’ll never visit this place again there loss not ours. Obviously over booked at this very busy time and the customer care was out the window. Ho ho ho

Visited here with a friend for lunch. Service was spot on and the food absolutely delightful. Being the Christmas season we both ordered off the Christmas menu. Both had turkey followed by sticky toffee pudding. The turkey was lovely and moist and the veg which came with it was lovely. It happened to us this week when we called in at the Oak Tree Inn at Middleton St George with friends. Two tried the small roast, another the cod and chips and I opted for the ham and eggs. The corporate verdict: a delightful experience with no complaints at all. There was plenty of praise, too for the creme brulee, sticky toffee pudding (with bags of custard)and cookie dough desserts. Called in on a Saturday evening after my wife’s Christmas Day out with the girls. Was greeted happily by a member of staff who pointed me in the direction of the bar to be seated. Very friendly staff, took us to our table and took our drinks order. No Pepsi/ coke on tap but not the worst thing. I got the large hotshot Parmo and my word is was a thing of beauty. Chicken was tender, perfect amount of béchamel and the cheese was fantastic. I love garlic sauce so when ordering I passed comment to the waitress and she ensured I got a substantial amount with it, I wasn’t let down as a good garlic sauce is key to a great Parmo, I personally preferred it to a certain place In Red Marshall, blew it out the waster in fact. The chips were equally as scrumptious! My wife had the Cajun chicken, which was also tender, juicy and very flavoursome. Was very surprised how little people were in as the food was top class.

Got served by 3 staff thou out the lunch and all were very polite indeed a great dinning experience .Anyway as we enjoyed it that much we went back last night for tea I had the mixed grill and my friend had the steak pie. Was a typical pub meal but very well cooked and tasty. John smiths was again top notch . As was the service. I would also like to mention that the toilets were very clean as I think that’s important when u are dinning . A really amazing day, more care taken than you see in bigger establishments, a really touching attention to detail, that made for a really impressive, relaxed and happy day.

We went to this place about 10 years ago. We decided to give it another go. We weren't disappointed. Friendly staff, and it was all refurbished, obviously after 10 years. I had the half parmo, it was delicious. Worth a visit

We stayed as quite a large group here whilst completing the Coast to Coast Bike ride last weekend. It was a fantastic place to stay with lovely rooms, clean facilities and helpful staff. The bar was a lovely place to relax in the evening with a great selection of drinks on offer at very reasonable prices!

We have been regulars at the Tawny Owl but endured awful service and a rude response from the manager.

Myself, my daughter and granddaughter turned up on a family day. We didn't intend to have food but the menu was so tempting we did. The food was excellent with prompt, friendly service from Karin. Will definitely return and take our dog as we found out they ate welcome

Went with Groupon new menu since last visit and everything seemed to have gone up by £1although they honoured prices for gruopon, We all had sweet and sour chicken 3 extra chips at £1 portion for just a few chips. Food freshly cooked and hot, nice presentation. Staff friendly butno one stopped 2 children in the bar from shouting messing about and running around not my idea of a night out. Thought sweets expensive for £6 so didnt bother.

Love coming here. Feel as though the staff a bit rushed off their feet, stood 15 mins at the bar waiting to be shown our table. Only 2 waitresses running a busy pub, food took nearly 45 minutes I actually forgot what I had ordered and by the time we got served everyone else had gone. Will be back but not anytime soon.

Waited 40 mins for our meal after ordering. Started well with pleasant staff and drink order. Definitely took on too many bookings for the chef to cope. When meal arrived plates cold -not good always serve a hot meal on a hot plate. Discrepancy over size of plate for price we paid. Mash potatoes cold, vegetables in separate bowl swimming in water - obviously not strained properly - not difficult. Yorkshire puds cold obviously made sometime earlier. Won’t be returning.

Yet again we were well looked after by the staff and the food was as good as ever. Their parmo has got to be one of the best in the area. There is always a good choice of food on the "Specials menu". Definitely worth a visit

We went for Sunday lunch, had booked a table for 2.30, providing we vacated it by 4pm,fair enough. We arrived at 2.15, and were shown to table pretty quickly, unfortunately that's where the service ends, had to wait to order drinks,a table that came in after us had there drinks order taken straight away. Despite this we eventually ordered our drinks and meals, drinks arrived fairly promptly, then a small wait for starters, food was very good however, then our starters were cleared, then came the very long wait for our mains to come,by this time it was 320pm,we had to ask a member of staff to chase our food, eventually it arrived with an apology, all roast dinners were delicious it has to be said, shame about the long wait, especially when they expected us to vacate table by 4pm. We then waited for our plates to be cleared and to order desserts. A member of staff walked past our table at least 5 times empty handed, showing some people to tables, she even saw that we had finished our meals, but made no attempt to offer us a dessert menu or clear our plates, the place was starting to quieten down at this point, lots of vacated tables around us,we eventually decided not to wait any longer to get a member of staffs attention to clear our mains,as we couldn't bear the thought of an even longer wait to get desserts,so we went to the bar to pay our bill and leave,so much for wanting our table for 4pm, the place was almost empty, the food was lovely, such a shame the service wasn't up to scratch, would have loved a dessert and further drinks. Probably won't be rushing back.

My Partner bought a Groupon voucher for this then found the only time we could book a table was between 4 and 6pm. So we arrived for our 4pm table bought and paid for a drink at the bar then was shown to our table and gave them our voucher. The waiting on staff seem to all be young teenager's, after waiting 20 mins we had to ask if someone could take our order. We finally got our food which was very average at best, after finishing our meal and drink we sat awhile but were not offered a dessert so left and drove home, then 45 mins later we received a phone call from the pub to say we had not paid for our drinks which we had. We will not be returning .

Once again VERY disappointed at the complete lack of hand pulled ale. None at all on this occasion. Some bottled ale but as it's so called "CRAFT BEER" it is overpriced by a country mile as is the wine. Very attentive and friendly staff under new management and food excellent and well priced. If they put on some good local ale and advertised in something like the Darlington Drinker they would pull in a much larger clientele from far and wide as not many pubs in the area doing the "entire" thing.

Went for Sunday lunch paid for in advance with Groupon. Booked a table for 6 people for 16.30. When we got there we were ignored for the first few minutes as staff were too busy. Eventually we were shown to a table in a crowded reastraunt area. A few minutes later we ordered drinks, which took a while to come, when the drinks arrived my wife's wine was in a very dirty (cover in lipstick) glass that took a further 15 minutes or so to get changed. We oreded our food only to be told there was no pork left. So we settled on 4 beef and two chicken dinners. By 18.00 we had asked twice but had not been served. Just after 18.00 the meals came but one arrived in a large Yorkshire pudding that was not ordered , the waitress encouraged me to take this one, as it had taken an hour and a half to get this far I decided it was a good idea to take it. The beef on all 4 meals was not edable being full of fat, vans and very tough.

We bought a Sunday dinner groupon for here for my partners Mam for her birthday and I have to say it has to be the worst ever Sunday dinner I have ever had meaty was fatty, watery gravy, extremely small portion and then our bill was wrong and the girl was reluctant to help us and sort the bill out for us. Extremely disappointing would not return here.

I highly recommend anyone who lives in or is visiting teesside to visit this small pub, staff are brilliant and really nice, the pub is kept super clean, there is something for everyone on the menu with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available on request. The meals I had was the Chinese chicken(sweet and sour) [also in the pictures is the chicken parmasan and lasagne] and the chocolate brownie(scoop of ice cream, chocolate brownie and strawberry sauce) and they were amazing, and don't get me started on the chips, possible the best chips I've ever had. Toilets are very small and could do with being refurbished but we're kept up to an excellent standard. The food is at a reasonable price. There is seating and a smoking area outside.

Awful food. Terrible attitude. Owner has high opinion of themselves and customer service is absolutely zero. Avoid at all costs.

Food and staff are second to non. Practically family now Im in there that much. Unfortunately for me. Fantastic old school cooking as well as healthy and special options. The savouries are famous and so they should be, sometimes get a savoury with my meal. Your not from Darlo unless you’ve had a savoury in your life. The girls/lads all bully me and only reason I keep going back. Ultimate breakfast or the Roast dinner with extra fried roasties are the one. Simon needs to pull his socks up when Im in though. Thats my only fault is our Simon, he knows what I mean! ;-) thanks for always looking after me. Also opens at 8:30 which is good for someone up as early as I am and needs feeding properly!
