The Nutmeg Tree in Sunderland

First time in the Nutmeg Tree Called in for coffee an what a pleasant staff, surrounding. Lived here for a number of years but first time in. Great menu and at reasonable price will def go back. If you haven't been try it you will not be dissapointed

Every time I go to the Nutmeg Tree, I always get quick service and have a lovely hot chocolate made by Michelle. Michelle is very customer friendly. I have pizza and chips, which are amazingly made. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

We visited here twice recently and both times we enjoyed good food. Fish and chips, chicken in wine with fresh vegetables. We had no problem with the service and prices were very reasonable.would reccommend and we will definitely visit again.

Excellent quality bacon, sausage and eggs. Served hot with a smile from Lisa the waitress. She knows my order as I come tjrpufh the door which from a customer service perspective is essential for liyal, returning cystom. My regular place now. Wouldn't go anywhere else in Houghton. Tried the rest now try the best.

Nice breakfast whether your a meat eater or veggie, staff polite but a wee bit slow. Also would have a a nice pot of tea which makes a change from the bad ones you get these days.

Visited here recently and whilst we sat down the 2 waitresses, one started cleaning the tables even though there were numerous empty ones and the other stood behind the counter doing nothing. This is not the first time the lady with the black hair has chosen to clean tables rather than serve customers. She then looked at us and seen we were waiting then went behind the counter and went onto her mobile phone! I was furious she really needs to be sacked as she does this every time we go in. She has no personality and never smiles. She is losing you business. Won’t return as it’s overpriced anyway

I loved the food there and the service was suberb! The waiteress was very friendly and kind.I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Not happy with some staff bad customer services need customer services course won’t recommend to any one

I have eaten here several times and have always found the food to be well cooked, solid, hearty fare at a decent price. I had the full English today which was large, hot and came quickly, with a pot of tea it came to around £7. I have previously had the steak which was fine if slightly fatty but with good chips, sadly my favourite, the excellent hunters chicken has gone off the new menu. The cafe is clean and does offer a decent menu, there are specials on offer as well. The service can become erratic on occasion, I once waited in vain to be served and gave up on getting a dessert once but they seem to have got their act together and it has been fine the last few times I have been. It also offers a children's menu, as far as I am aware gluten free options are very limited if any at all.

Visited with my daughter for lunch. Place was not overly busy; food was average, however we waited 15 minutes and when we went to pay the lady who took our payment, whom I think owns the place was rude and didn't even ask if everything was alright. We will definitely not be visiting again

Visited for Lunch on a Saturday afternoon, the one lady serving told us it was table service so we took a seat. Our order was taken fairly quickly and the food came out at a reasonable time. The food was average (we had a cheese and onion toastie each and shared a jacket potato with cheese and beans) but both toasties were missing the side of slaw when they arrived so we had to ask to then be informed that they had ran out. After we ate and asked for our bill I was told that we had a slip on our table (the copy of the ticket she had wrote our order on) and that the prices were all on the menu. Never have I had to work out my own bill, especially at somewhere that had table service. The lady never even bothered to crack a smile throughout our full visit. Very disappointed all in all.

I waited 10 minutes before being served and this was because there was only one person who was waiting tables taking orders clearing tables and working the till. The place was fairly busy and she was clearly run off her feet. The meal was ok when it eventually turned up and she was very polite and friendly but if it wasn’t for her skills then this place would have severely struggled. Not in a rush to revisit

Well, I went here today and to my horror I discovered a hair inside my daughter's wrap. I told a member of staff and when she told the chef, he sent her back saying that they all wear hats. I went to approach the chef myself and he said sorry (like he didn't mean it) and also practically argued with me that the hair wasn't there's and it know it was there's because my daughter has short brown hair and this hair was blonde. The chef said well I aspect you want a refund and that was it. He was very abrupt and rude and takes no pride in his customers. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they like eating hair!

Another full english breakfast , lovely as always, staff friendly, and a lovely and clean cafe, what more can you ask for!

Hasn’t change a lot with new ownership but still make nice cup of coffee . Good place to watch world go by with big windows.

Went for lunch with family, would not recommend asking if anything can be changed on the menu, e.g. asked if instead of beans on the breakfast could I have a hash brown instead, you would have thought I'd asked for gold!!!, waitress attitude was not very good, said she would ask the chef, I think the title chef is a bit grandiose for this place, " chef" said no couldn't have hash brown instead of beans, I think it was to complicated a task!!, won't be going back.
