The Nocturne Cafe in High Peak

With summer finally here I was tempted by the menu in the window of Nocturne. Affogato was just what I hadn't realised I was looking for. And when it came it was just delightful with a wonderful balance between the flavours of espresso and ice cream, and set off by a generous dusting of chocolate and a couple of coffee beans. A relaxing break with classical music in this tiny gem of a cafe in upper Buxton, almost opposite famous second-hand bookshop Scriveners. I can't wait for my next visit.

Possibly the best coffee shop I have ever been to. Called on spec when visiting the nearby framing shop. Run by people who clearly know their coffee and tea. Many imaginative variations on the drink list and lovely sweet snacks available to accompany. We received very good advice as to our selection and ended up with two tasty variations on classic coffee drinks. Really impressed and we will definitely be coming back.

At the moment when there are so many coffee shops, it is great to find one as unique as this. Home made cakes, and an extensive coffee menu, ranging from straightforward Latte and Cappuccino, all the way to some things I had to ask about. The passion and 'coffee obsessivness' of the owners shines though in every cup. Did I mention they also roast the coffee? Then we come to the atmosphere. It is so welcoming, and so calming that I wish it was closer to home so I could retreat there whenever life gets too much. Very much looking forward to going back, and would have no hesitation in recommending Nocturne to anyone looking for REALLY good coffee.

Creating a real atmosphere in a coffee shop is not an easy thing. So many places have nice coffee or nice food or just nice people. Never before have I been to a coffee shop that serves such fantastic coffee and amazing food in such a brilliant atmosphere and served by people that truly care about what they do (as opposed to the mindless robots in any coffee shop chain). I've also never been to a coffee shop and had two flat whites in a row, seriously the coffee really is that good. The Nocturne deserves more than 5/5 in any review. Oh and you can learn to play the piano as well!

Delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. Especially helpful with my request for water and patient with customers with a million questions!

Stumbled into this place looking for somewhere to have coffee / bite for breakfast. Atmosphere is nice with piano / classical music playing, at a reasonable volume (in response to another review). Coffee was excellent and made with great attention to detail. Also had a Panini which was very nice. Would recommend!

A real find! This classical music-themed cafe is run by the lovely Charlotte, who creates bubble waffles, folded into cone shapes, filled with different fruits, ice cream and sauces .... and the coffee selection is to die for. At the end of our unusual "breakfast", Charlotte played two piano pieces for us - a Chopin Prelude and a Nocturne. We were then invited into the back room, where her partner gives piano lessons, and he played a piece by Bach. What an amazing morning we all had. We will be returning as soon as possible!

Lovely cafe , serves amazing coffee and cake. If you a coffee lover this is certainly the best place to go in Buxton for a proper barista coffee

Great coffee and pleasant room but service was painfully slow. Playing classical piano music (on vinyl!) is a nice touch - but playing it at such a high volume in a smallish space less so. The combination of barely being able to converse while sitting waiting for what felt like an eternity made for a very unsatisfying experience.

NIce coffee, nice ambience, nice Chopin! And dog friendly, a bonus. Recommended. Give this new cafe a try, friendly owner who gave me a short piano recital!
