The New Inn Blagdon in North Somerset

Amazing location and great views, But unfortunately they had a poor choice for food to eat. The barman was extremely miserable and rude when asked if there was a Sunday special menu he just said “No” very rude left after.

Busy authentic village pub, had the cow pie with veg and was brilliant, shall return, full disclosure I work for Yeo valley but still enjoyed the pub and the amazing view over the lake.

I loved this place. Excellent. I've only given 4 stars for service because they were so busy that day. Could they not put on more staff on busy days?

Stopped here after playing cricket against the village side on Sunday. I have to say, that every one of the lads who went for a pint said exactly the same....this has got to be one of the finest beer garden views in the land. The view across the Blagdon valley over the the lake is incredible. The inside of the pub is just exactly what you hope to find in a proper country pub too...the sort of place where on a cold winters evening you walk in the little creaking door to the warmth of a fire, the smell of great pub grub and noise of pub cheer. We didn't have food....but I've marked it 5 stars because the atmosphere and the view deserve 10. Staff very polite...but will definitely be back to try the food...keep a great pint too...so much so...that one of the lads was convinced he could see the Blagdon lake monster out in the water....give it a go....see if you can spot Blaggie from the garden😉

What a lovely place to sit outside eating a Ploughman's! The sunny weather helped, obviously, but it's a nice pub inside as well. Well kep beer. What more could anyone want? 😍

Updated review 18th August 2024. I'd previously left a 5 star review for the New Inn when it was run by different management. At that time the landlords were very hospitable & welcoming and the home-cooked food was great. However, visiting yesterday evening was a disappointment. We'd been recommended to eat there by a local business where we were staying but the fish pie I had was more like a leek pie ( I did fine one prawn!) and the carrots and broccoli were hard. Unfortunately I left my meal but no-one asked how the food was. My friend had the macaroni cheese and while that was alright, he was unwell afterwards! Such a shame :-( Previous review.... We were staying just a 4-minute walk away at School farm B&B and the New Inn very quickly became our 'local.' The new management Vikki and Spike are terrific hosts and they deserve every success. We ate here 3 out of 4 evenings and the food menu was varied with plenty of choice for vegetarians and the portions were plentiful. Sit outside and you'll be rewarded with breath-taking views over Blagdon lake. If you're looking for a cosy, friendly village pub, then this is it. We're already looking forward to visiting again next year.

Lovely pud, a small menu, but everything looked lovely. Had chilli and my son had lasagne and it was good. Also several GF options

Tomato soup and mac n cheese were really good. Impressed the butter or the bread wasn't solid, so was easy to spread. Wasn't clear you had to order at the bar and would be better if the sides were on the menu too, rather than just on the board above the bar. Great view of the lake from the garden. Would visit again!

Lovely little pub in a picturesque location. Very nice food, staff, and view! Didn’t want our visit to end.

Nice place accommodated us as a family of 4 even though they were being stretched with a large wedding party at the time. Nice setting food was tasty and reasonably priced.

Wonderful staff, stunning location with views to the lake. But £12 for a charcuterie board which comprised only of a thick slice of white bread and six thin slices of salami, very poor value for money. Won’t be eating there again.

IMPORTANT- NEW OWNERS. Food selection is awful though decent enough quality. NOT the same menu as before. Nothing plain like sausages or fish for children or people with special needs. Gluten free options not marked on menu. Staff were very helpful though and said they are working on it.

Didn't eat here but the choice of the menu was something and nothing but everything else was brilliant.

A brilliant pub on the edge of an exceptional view of the lake. Great food, great experience - been as a couple for a Saturday dinner, walked groups of friends down for pub garden drinks, taken family for Sunday lunch and never disappointed. It might be my local but the consistently great time would have me back again and again regardless of that convenience. If you're driving through the Mendips or want out of Bristol City for a few hours, a perfect choice.

100% bang on the money. Everything absolutely perfect. Good to see my old favourite operating so well again. Hopefully will now be more stable under Yeo Valley ownership. They always do everything so well.

Lovely location but probably one of the worst value for money ploughman's I've ever had. Tiny amount of cheese with one slice of bread that just crumbled up when putting the butter on with a strange combo of pickadily and gherkins. And way over priced for what I got, Shame because cracking location

Seemed to be quite a limited menu, and then various things weren't available!! No Moretti, so we had an alternative only then to hear Moretti was on. No hot pud of the day, so we went for Banana splits, then to be told that wasn't available. Very odd given it was only 6pm on a Saturday evening. View is good from the garden but that said you can see the lake from lots of locations.

Excellent meal at the new Inn! We were on holiday and wanted a good lunch. I had the Cow Pie and my Wife had the beef Nachos and we both loved what we had! Menu with an emphasis on local ingredients! Wonderful views of Blagdon lake! Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!

A quality pub with a great view and I was glad to see a session IPA on tap!

It's been a long time since I was here last and it must have changed hands. Last time we were told.there were no children allowed inside. However, now it is both child and dog friendly! The view outside over the lake is fantastic. The food was great, although the menu could be bigger.

Fabulous gluten free options and ale! Very very happy. Left with full belly of beer and food. Will return, happy friendly staff very welcoming.

Nice to see the pub doing well again….. please please can we just have one area of the pub where the music isn’t blasting out though. It’s too loud and intrusive to enjoy my drink and company.

Has a Sunday lunch here for our friends birthday. Food was very good. I can recommend the Lemon Posset dessert. Also loved the Pale Ale beer. Easy parking, very clean toilets. An excellent location with outside tables - we sat there and enjoyed the view over the lake.

Lovely quaint pub with the most stunning view over Blagdon lake. Good, hearty food and a nice pint of Guinness to swill it down. Décor was just down at heel enough to make you feel comfortable with a complete lack of pretentiousness, whilst still being perfectly pleasant. Nice friendly staff. A really enjoyable lunch. Would love to visit again in the summer to sit out and enjoy that view!

Excellent all round. Nothing to fault. Even offered my kid food off the menu. Real open fire in traditional low ceiling pub. Homemade pie was amazing. Food phenomenal and good value. We visit here about 3 times a year from far away. View over lake tops it off.

My friend and I visited The New Inn with our children recently for lunch and we had an excellent experience. The food was great and they were very accommodating for children. The fire was lit and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Would highly recommend.

After a cold windy walk, the new inn was welcoming and cosy with a fire going. Five of us had lunch with amazing puddings.

The pub had just reopened so no food available on that night, we stayed in the pub overnight as it was easy access to the airport in the early hours. It was very clean and met our needs for the night. The staff were extremely welcoming and the customers we met were great fun. I would definitely stay there again

Small pub with big garden overlooking the lake. The best thing about it was the garden view. The girl behind the bar was nice enough but I don't think very beer savvy. Hubby's 1st beer was glaringly obviously off - he had to return it and it was poured away. The 2nd choice ale wasn't good either so he ended up with cider (which was a bit tainted too). Food was 'meh' when it eventually arrived after a very long wait and there were only 6 customers in the whole place.

A very disappointing lunch with a limited menu but we were not warned when we booked our table! The bar staff were pleasant enough . We were a table of six and none of us found it very good , the chips were not crisp very brown! I asked if we could have omelette as I did not like scampi , or bean chilli . They said they couldn’t do anything off menu. No butter in the bread rolls . The gravy was almost solid it would not pour! We heard others complaining especially about the vegetarian beans having baked beans on the top. I’m afraid we will not return .

We booked for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday for our granddaughters 10th Birthday. On arrival we thought the menu was small and limited. It was difficult for us to choose food the children would like. After two of us ordered bean chilli with rice we were informed they had run out of rice but offered us chips which we agreed to. Well the chilli was watery tinned tomatoes, chilli powder and 3 different types of beans. The chips were dark brown, overcooked, limp and reheated as were the chips served with the other meals. We were unable to finish our meal as it was the worst chilli I have ever been served. We were very disappointed with the quality of all the food and wouldn't recommend eating at this pub. I informed a member of staff of our disappointment in the quality of food and she said she would tell the chef but no-one from the kitchen spoke to us. Beautiful scenery but awful food.

Great price view across Blagdon lake, WOW!!

Perfect Roast Beef lunch. Real tasty beef, delicious gravy, lovely roast potatoes, green beans and cauliflower, Yorkshire pudding, all cooked to perfection. Served on hot plates. Two sizes available. The small roast was a good portion. Just like old fashion proper home cooked food.

Staff were extremely rude when we arrived, and making the party feeling very uncomfortable by staring and shaking their heads when we arrived

We've eaten here twice now, had a great meal each time and our dog is welcomed. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Gem of a place, run by lovely friendly locals who really seem to care whether or not you're enjoying yourself. Good food, good beer, great views, lovely garden, as un-pretentious as you can get - everything a pub should be. Wonderful!

The food here was appalling re heated nonsense should not have been served.

A lovely view over the valley to chew magna, but the food was rather disappointing. The view deserved far more. It is spectacular. There was a good array of drinks, but wines were served by the large bottle and not per glass. This makes it a rather expensive visit. Unless some upgrades are sourced, we probably will not revisit.

Not a great experience food wise here. Visited on a Friday early evening. Ran out of garlic mushroom starter…Camembert bites starter was cold in the middle so sent back, then to be told no more of them either. Mac n cheese main-bland as you like and scampi and chips average at best. We knew it was a basic menu but it was not good. They did refund us for the Camembert and offered to give us an upgrade our mains to the full portions, instead of the half we ordered. Staff friendly and apologetic. Beautiful views and nice for a drink, hubby enjoyed his beer and wine was pleasant enough and cold, just wouldn’t recommend eating here.

Nice location, good car park with great view of the lake from the garden. The lunch menu had unusual choices of fillings, but the bread rolls were excellent. Although it wasn't that busy unfortunately the service was slow. However the pleasant staff did apologise.

Recommended this place from family and friends that had been in previous years. Came to the pub 5 or so minutes before opening and asked if we could park in car park until they had opened as I was to place flowers on my grandmothers grave opposite. Was spoken to extremely rudely and was told I had to eat if I wanted to park. Once ordering food and drinks I was once again was treated disrespectfully. When presenting my cards on the bar the lady snatched them out my hand with out asking. once paid I told the lady I’d be back in for the lemonade. To that they ignored me. on top of all this I had to remind the lady about my crisps as she had forgot once again. My pint of gold was also off tasting! WOULD AVOID AT ALL COST! Great view shocking lease holders! Would not recommend avoid at all cost!

Lovely view however the staff were grumpy and rude. Seemed annoyed that we were there and made snarky comments at ordering extra chips etc (chips also below average). Piece of pasta in the salt…bit weird

First time having a meal there and it's true, you get what you pay for, meal was very average but the chips were basically burnt, well overcooked and in it would seem in oil used multiple times. Wouldn't go back for a meal again.

Popped in for a drink and food following a long walk nearby. The food was good and well priced for the amount ordered. They were also dog friendly, which was good for us, so she was not left in the car.

A really warm welcoming pub serving well produced meals.

Lack of atmosphere, two senior staff members in a flap over the wi-fi signal and whether customers could use cards. Result paying customers almost ignored while they bickered. Felt as if customers were an inconveniece to the business rather than the reason for it. RETURN, not on your nellie.

A great pub to discover, situated over looking the lake at Blagdon offering an amazing view of the area, a good size car park and well maintained outdoor seating area, toilets within the building, the building itself has an old feel to it with tables to sit at and a bar, nice staff, good food and reasonably priced, well worth a visit

called in here on a super summer Sunday and sat out the back garden over looking the blagdon lake (views you would die for ) thatchers was nice and chilled 😀 only had 1 then moved on.well worth a visit if it's sunny to sit outside and see the view

Really nice pub, the main issue for me as a mum of 4 (under 8) is containment. There is no containment to keep them safe meaning I am constantly on edge. The owner of the pub got quite annoyed about it. If you have young children this is not the best pub to take them.

My dog loves this place. He was warmly welcomed. The staff were warm and friendly, plus great food and amazing views. Well worth a visit.

We have revisited the place today and more impress the view this time... ...It is an old traditional family pub. We were there for dinner. We all liked our chosen dishes. They were all delicious. Unlike alot of pubs it was very clean and the atmosphere was cosy. Spike and his staff were very welcoming and friendly.
