The Mount Stuart - JD Wetherspoon in Cardiff

We visited the Mount Stuart for lunch with our grandchildren. We all had different meals and all were nicely presented and tasty. They were all excellent value for money too. We had a super friendly person called Alex looking after us, both at the bar and table. He made our visit even better with his great customer care. He's a credit to the venue.

Sometimes pop in here when I'm in the bay area....not so much of a traditional pub vibe....but a contemporary high ceiling large open space bar and restaurant perhaps....on at least two floors with a balcony terrace area also....lots of air and light from the largely glass structure....not really a bargain basement spoons perhaps.... service adequate to good.... sometimes even friendly with a hello!....food and drink seem to be good....bit of a draw back is it's often absolutely jam packed....from my experience anyways....some guy came with his partner and sat at a table I was using to dine once last summer....it was fully occupied....had to ask the manager to ask them politely to move!....never mind.... certainly a nice spot on a quieter day perhaps.... I would certainly give a general recommendation....

The staff were pleasant. But I found them to be rushed off their feet as it was a really busy place, especially about midday on a week day.

Great location and have been here previously, albeit a few years ago. This time I went for lunch with my child, they had the tomato pasta with cheese, I had the buttermilk chicken burger and ordered an extra buttermilk chicken. Low score is due to the food, the tomato pasta sauce didn't taste nice, had a very thick dry consistency. The chicken was quite mushy and thin, I did finish all my food but even the little one didn't like the chicken when I gave them a piece. Chips were nice though. Whilst I didn't expect a la carte, it was just disappointing that I left there feeling I wasted £25 and should have got us lunch elsewhere.

Chicken jalfrezi came with 2 poppadoms dripping with grease. I couldn't eat them. All the dry roasted peanuts behind the bar were on the best before date and the nuts tasted metallic. Exchanged these for spicy peanuts which had blood (not mine) on the packet. Also only 1 real ale (Abbot) above 4.3% abv. A very poor experience.

Had a meal this evening. Asked the staff member could meet have tartar sauce. If there's none out we haven't got any was tye reply. Lies. Came back after the shield and all restocked. Too lazy to sort out. 9th February.. Blonde girl with glasses.

Really liked this Weatherspoons. Service was great, food came out as it should,however, I did visit three times whilst it was quiet.

As spoons go this is one of the better ones. Only go here on a Friday for breakfast and it's probably the best spoons breakfast

Chicken southern fried Wrap was really awful didn't look appetising cost enough waitress dropped pot of coleslaw off one of other meals didn't come back to wipe it up so left to the customer to clean floor

Food was good Wetherspoons fare. Served promptly. More expensive in Wetherspoons dynamic pricing. Pleasant and efficient staff. Can get busy and noisy. Very popular Friday and Saturday. Update 23/01/2025. Still a smart Wetherspoons. Food OK, served swiftly. Drinks still expensive by Wetherspoons pricing policy.

It's ok shouldn't have to go all the way up stairs to find a toilet slipped on glass stairs on way back down my back is in half still 2 days later

This is a Wetherspoons but it has the best view of any bar or restaurant in the Bay. It's very well maintained unlike the inner city Spoons pubs that I won't mention here. This is however reflected in the price. Expect to pay £1 more per pint in this place than other Spoons. It also has a limited menu e.g. it doesn't do steaks. Overall top notch place and I'd recommend it for a few cheap drinks before going somewhere else.

Great views of the bay from inside or the first floor terrace. Loads of space over two levels and interesting as it has a new section attached to a historic dock building. Good option for food or drink in the bay at reasonable prices and good beer selection

We always have a great experience at Wetherspoons Mount Stuart. The staff are friendly and the food is amazing. The prices for food and drink is hard to beat.

Big place with two floors and a nice balcony on the top floor. Food is hit or miss and the drinks, atmosphere, decor and clientele is typical of what you’d expect from a Wetherspoon pub.

Great experience here, the staff were very friendly, the venue was clean and it was not a noisy environment. The food we ordered came quickly and was a good standard. The wetherspoons app makes it very easy to order. The only slight issue with this restaurant is the toilet is upstairs, so if you're far away from the stairs sat downstairs, it could be an issue for some.

Worst Wetherspoons experience I have ever had! Chips were undercooked. Chicken burger tasted like rubber and was so hard I left it as was inedible. My husband ordered a side of bread and butter with his fish and chips and they brought out curry instead (rather different choice). Asked for mayo to be told they didn’t have any, only to see about 20 bottles when I went upstairs to use the toilet. Therefore clearly just too lazy to go upstairs. My mum asked a question about whether the chicken strips were chicken breast and the staff member was rude and wouldn’t ask the kitchen. Ordered hot chocolate fudge cake and it came out cold. The toilets were absolutely disgusting and in desperate need of a clean. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Popped here with my sister and our children after techniquest. Lots of food and drink to choose from at great prices, decent portions, arrived hot and very quickly. Staff were brilliant with the kids and really interacted with them. Thank you for making what could be a very stressful meal mid summer holidays into a lovely evening.

As you would expect it to be...it was busy. Managed to get a table for 9 upstairs on the mezzanine. Ordered via the app and it was quick and efficient for the drinks. Slight hiccup on food but it was quickly rectified with clear communication from out waiter. Only point of disappointment was the size of the portions really. The burgers was more like kid sizes or McDonald's hamburger sizes. Chip portions we also pretty small and glad I ordered an additional plate for the kids. Pizza was good. One down side was cutlery was dirty.

A family bite to eat in Cardiff Bay and prior to everyone going to see Becky Hill. The food was delicious with the new menu bit sad to see some old classics gone like mixed grill.

Ordered food for 2 with drinks, lovely food and decent staff at first. Went back an hour later then was kicked out of the beer garden because we had our dog. Was too embarrassed to tell him I was disabled as there was many customers around and had my assistant dog with me. Never again! And spent a good amount on drink, was served with no isssue with my dog at first. Absolute idiot.

Sunny day so great time to visit here as its right on Cardiff bay. Pub was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Our order arrived promptly and food was great. Perfect fish in crispy batter and tasty burger, both with chips. Food was a nice size portion and nice and warm. All in all a great visit. Staff were very attentive and efficient. We parked across the road in a multistorey car park.

1. We had to eat with someone else's crap still all over our table, staff cleaned most of it and never came back for the rest. 2. By the time we had our drinks, we'd already eaten. I had to get up to chase my drinks. 3. Place is absolutely rammed, and everything is sticky. Had to stand around and wait for a seat as people steal them to fit their group of 13 around a table. Leaving tables with no chairs. Not even the tables are wiped over between customers. I feel for the staff that don't have a moment to breath or think. Never again.

A lesser range of beers than most Weatherspoons but an interesting building and staff above the usual standard of Weatherspoons. I would probably put this in my favourite top three favourite Weatherspoons, mostly down to the staff.

Visit early evening Friday 9/8. A group of four..Had drinks on the upper balcony....Great views....Stowford Press Cider spot on...Later, I had fish,chips & mushy peas....my wife a cheeseburger special.....both meals were plentiful and well prepared ...A great pub in a cracking location....

Cold halloumi fries. Staff were not interested in helping customers - merely pointing in the general direction and letting you search for yourself.

The staff here are always amazing. They don’t stop for a second. There just needs to be more of them because they don’t have time to clean tables. Special shoutout to the young ginger lad (sorry I didn’t catch his name) working upstairs the other night. He went above and beyond with his service and is an asset to the company. Never any issues with the food. I tried the fish for the first time the other day and it was top quality. The balcony is such a great spot to spend an evening.

Popped in while passing some time waiting in Cardiff Bay . Had a large breakfast, it was okay, nothing special usual food from Spoons......say no more. Drinks were great as usual and nice ambience.

Food is terrible ok it's cheaper than others but that doesn't mean you can over cook stuff in the microwave.
