I really wish I could give this place 5 stars but what should have been a great evening left me feeling disappointed. The food itself was amazing and everyone at the table loved it. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. We arrived for our 5.30 booking only to be told we weren’t in the system. We provided our email proof from 3 weeks earlier and it took 2 staff members to find us a table, with them saying ‘Luckily the 5pm table didn’t show up so you can sit here.’ If the 5pm table had arrived would we have been turned away, despite booking in advance? We were given menus and told someone would be over soon to take our orders. In that time we saw 2 more tables enter, be seated and have their orders taken whilst we sat there. 30 minutes passed before we were even asked if we wanted to order drinks. At this point tables that arrived after us had already ordered their food. We were also told ‘Your booking was messed up because someone had sat you accidentally and then removed your booking altogether.’ I understand human error but it felt like we were being told that they had basically deleted our booking and if we didn’t have proof we wouldn’t have gotten a table. We finally began receiving our starters and everyone at the table loved them. We had to ask the server to take our empty glasses away and order more drinks and it seemed as if none of the servers knew what the others were doing. One checked on us and said she would return with drinks but then another came to clear and asked us about ordering more drinks - I understand the confusion if it was a large restaurant but there are only about 9 tables in total! The sharing platters arrived for the mains and there were no complaints to be had with the food - it was all amazing. At 7.20 (about an hour from when we’d first had our starters), our platters were cleared and then we were asked if we wanted dessert. A member of the party asked for the menu to take a look and was told ‘If you want dessert it will have to be quick as you need to leave the table by 7.30.’ We were all shocked and extremely disappointed as we had not been told we would be limited to a time frame for the table. Due to the error with seating us and waiting 30 minutes for an order to be taken we’d been rushed through our meals and only had an hour at most to eat. We even checked our email to see if it was mentioned in the booking, only to find there’s none. What was most disappointing was seeing tables that had arrived before us still eating and chatting whilst we were being told to vacate the table. It felt like we were unwanted from the start by the staff. We did have dessert - at another restaurant that wanted our custom! We had heard such great things regarding this place but I’m not sure I will return unless I feel like being forgotten about and rushed through a meal. EDIT - I have messaged the company on instagram as per their request but have yet to receive a response.

Omg, omg! Moved to Wales in March and tried many local eateries. Nobody mentioned this little gem. Turned up, couldn’t find it and thought it can’t possibly been down an ally. Opened a door to the most beautiful cozy setting ever. Food was second to none, best stake we’ve ever had and the service matched it. Can’t recommend enough, it’s not just good food it’s an amazing experience too x

What a gorgeous restaurant. The staff were lovely, attentive, and accommodating. We arrived late and so we needed to make room for a large party later in the evening but we weren’t rushed or made to feel awkward. The food was excellent and I can’t recommend the crushed potatoes enough. If you are wondering whether it’s worth the visit, it definitely is.

Can't say enough good things about this place. The food was great and reasonably priced. The service was fantastic and the Manager was just so friendly and attentive. The only down side was they don't serve coffee ! You must get that coffee machine back in.

The food was amazing! We had the Ultimate Sharing Platter between 2 and there was more than enough food. Hard to decide what was our favourite dish as it was all so good! The staff were very helpful and friendly too.

Hidden away on a residential street behind a local shop, once inside it was a different vibe completely. I was only there for dinner whilst working away, at first the manager said she had nothing available sadly so as I walked to my car she came out to shout me saying she had space! Incredible effort. So polite, she made conversation throughout my entire visit and was very smiley, the waitresses were very good too with the table service. Nice music on in the background with a calm Japanese garden style vibe going on . The menu was amazing! I wish I was with my family just so I could order other items off the menu and spend longer in there. It was reasonably priced and the patty & thighs burger is a must if you like big portions! Chips could have been a little bigger from a portion perspective but the burger cancelled that problem out for me. I would definitely return to try the Sharing platters with more people, if you’re in town this is the place to eat for sure. I would love to see this place grow, so much potential!

Wow! The service, setting, food & drink was absolutely faultless! We had the Camembert & pork belly to start, sirloin steak, cheeseburger, truffle & Parmesan fries, fries & salt & pepper chicken…. All of which I’d highly recommend. The setting is lovely in the store room of a convenience shop - so pretty & well set up. The service was amazing, well looked after, no waiting & informative. Thank you guys, when my bf says it’s the best steak he’s ever had…. We will be back 😍

We came here for a nice chilled evening meal for an anniversary. It was our first time and we really enjoyed the food. The decor is lovely and the staff are really friendly.

Can’t recommend this place enough, staff were SO friendly, helpful and accommodating. Food was incredible, served very quickly, I did not have a bad word to say about it. The restaurant is very small so fills up pretty quickly so recommended to book a little in advance! Will definitely return!

Terribly disappointing visit. We’d visited this place when it was just ‘The Mine’ a few months before and had a great time, the food was superb so thought we’d give this new one a go but were left very disappointed… We ordered a sharing platter for 2 and most of it was just terrible; steak was ordered medium rare but was basically still raw, lamb chops so small they could be eaten in half a bite, burgers were completely dry and bland, burnt chips on the side and all served on cheap, tatty plates which spun all around the table when trying to eat! The service from the staff was excellent however and also the drinks were quite nice but the quality and presentation of the food was just too poor especially for the price. I’d say they need to focus a bit more on the quality and presentation of their food rather than the decor of the place.

Disappointing first visit. Lower than average food. Tasteless and soggy 'southern' fried chicken burger, not seasoned at all. Greasy and bland salt and pepper crushed potato's. Slippery plates to eat off. Focus on improving the food before making the place aesthetically pleasing. Hopefully was just a poor one off visit.

A little dark but the food was amazing, friendly staff!

Prawns we're bland, garlic bread was cooked in a oven with other burnt food so the smoke contaminated the taste, the steak had to go back that was raw not medium rare there's a difference the cheese cake was thick,creamy but also bland Overall has potential but needs better cooks and better plates my food was sliding all over the place spent longer trying to catch the Prawns than eating and portions are small

Unfortunately the bad mark is because we never got to eat! Table was booked over the phone using then number on table agent for this bistro, apparently that phone number is for the was Merthyr Tydfil restaurant!!! That’s was never mentioned.

4 Lovely lamp chops in pomegranate and mint sauce, with crushed roasted potatoes in salt and pepper £19.99. Nice touch, too, of freshly cooked free bread and garlic butter. Cute little place down the lane behind the mini supermarket.

It's one of my favourite eating places this year and last! They were amazing to support the men's group I helped to organise, and the food was out of this world. I had the pleasure to share the ultimate platter with a friend, and it was insanely good. The staff were great, welcoming, fun, and kind and looked after us, too. Parking was fine as it's in a quiet area and the entrance was funny as you had to go down the side of a shop. The decor was brilliant, and it probably holds 40 max? Well worth a try, and you must call or message to book ahead as always busy and sought after. They refurbished menu and style and have definitely upgraded from what already was a superb venue and grub! Looking forward to our return 👌🏼

My family and I visited this place! We are so delighted and very satisfied with the service we received! Servers are so friendly and accommodating! The food was Fantastic and not expensive! I made a Tiktok and Instagram Reels about the place search kuracho_moves! The little concern with my daughter’s steak temperature, meant to be medium rare but she got a rare instead. It was replaced almost instant and gave my daughter a complementary mocktail! I Highly Recommend this place if ever you are in South/West Wales…. I like their concepts of the Bistro and the ambiance was nice! There is a table there that you can sit on a swing! As they only have limited seats, book in advance to avoid disappointments! They only have a roadside parking that can be a concern when it’s busy.

Incredible food. 2 x glasses of white wine - so refreshing! 2 x starters - halloumi (best I’ve had) and pork belly. The steak was SO well cooked and my partner’s rack of ribs were incredibly succulent and fell off the bones. The truffle fries were also delicious! Finished with the white chocolate cheesecake. Probably the best meal I’ve had in the UK. Well done all. Will definitely visit again!

Incredible food in a really quirky atmosphere. Staff were really friendly and the service was excellent. Big portions so bring a big appetite! Excellent value for money, couldn't rate it highly enough.

First time we have been back to the mine since the rebrand as my partner booked for fathers day and we were all blown away. The starters were good and my partner and little girl loved the mocktails. The kids meal was the perfect size and she thoroughly enjoyed but the sharing platter was fantastic. Don't get me wrong, all of the food was good, great even, but the two steaks that came on the sharing platter were two of the best cooked steaks I have ever tasted. Both seasoned and cooked rare to perfection whilst still managing to have a slight delicious charring. Incredible food. We also had piece of cheesecake between us for desert which was amazing and considering the size of it, managed to not be too rich. Service was quite slow which would normally be a real downer for me personally, but we were kept up to date with when food would be coming. The communication paired with the understanding they were obviously very busy meant this was a non-issue. Other than that, service was super friendly and they made a fuss out of my little one which she loved. Can't wait to find a reason to return :)

What a hidden gem, tucked away behind a little village shop. Amazing value for money, incredible food and friendly service! It was that good, we booked in again 2 days after our first visit! Can't recommend this place enough!

Food awful, expensive for what you got, not one to morn and groan but would not recommend, meal served on a bread board with half a dozen greasy chips, not for me don't think they will see me again.

Highly recommended as all staff are very welcoming and the food is out of this world. Worth every penny. I will definitely be returning. What an amazing place to go.

As a group we have eaten here a number of times, this time it was disappointing. How can you mess up on the food you serve . 3 of our party ordered one of their favourite meals , the 50/50 ,which is Butter chicken with salt and pepper chilli chicken . They all ended up with hot curried chicken with salt and pepper chilli chicken. No apology or reduction offered.

Went for some food here it was OK and very overpriced the staff was very friendly and welcoming I hate chicken and chips the chicken was overcooked and the chips was cold my wife had the veggie burger which she enjoyed I will vist again and try something different

Saw some good reviews online so booked here for a family meal during a sightseeing trip to wales. Heart sank a bit as we walked up to the place - down a side alley behind a post office. However, once inside it had a really nice vibe. Small and intimate without feeling crowded. Food was amazing and really generous portions. Service was great too. Came in just shy of £90 for family of four (including 2 hungry teens) - which included two starters, mains and drinks. Have eaten in a lot of other places for same price and much less value. Would definitely recommend.

Looked forward to this for ages and when I got there the toilet door handle was hanging off and the toilet was blocked which for me took the shine off the experience. Food was nice and we upgraded to shovels but I think that just gets you more chips for an extra £3. Don't think we will return.

Popped in for a late Sunday lunch. Ended up with The Shaft Platter was amazing. 2 x burgers sticky ribs tones of chips and amazing chicken. Well worth a visit and we will be back

When we arrived at The Mine we received a warm welcome and were shown to our seats, with the restaurant being in the small size and being full we were sat by the door and found it to be comfortable but cold when the door was opened. The staff were very attentive, and always seemed to have time for a chat and a smile and making us feel very welcome and homely. My wife had garlic mushrooms for her starter followed by a double southern chicken burger and french fries, but although she tried she found it to much, whereas I had king prawn starter and polished off my double southern chicken burger, but am I glad I still had room for desert as I had the white chocolate cheesecake, which wax one of the best I have had for a while, delicious, tasty and all the other superlatives that come to mind. A wonderful evening at atmosphere.

Not recommended! Have been wanting to visit for 3years. My husband surprised me with a meal here for my 40th birthday. We drove an hour to get there to be told the girl my husband spoke to on the phone a week ago didn't put the booking through! Then told us they had no tables. Drove an hour for nothing and now nowhere to go for my 40th birthday. Thanks for ruining it!!. We won't be coming again!

I visited this place as I had heard rave reviews about it previously. We arrived in a group of 6 and after ordering drinks were led to our table. The staff were friendly and attentive and our orders were taken with ease. Having ordered the anit-pasti as a shared starter, I ordered a Burger from their extensive menu and my partner ordered Lasagne. The portion sizes are on the large side and I wasn't surprised to see that my partner had not finished hers. It was only having returned home that she informed me that her Lasagne, whilst tasty, was still frozen in the middle (I am more disappointed with her not wishing to "cause a fuss" than the frozen food). Food apart, I felt the choice of live band was what stopped this review from receiving 5 stars. Whilst I appreciate that we were dinning on a Friday Evening, the live band was deafening. Our table was situated at the furthest end of the restaurant away from the band and without exaggeration, i thought my ears were going to start bleeding at some point. I could see other diners gesturing to the ears at the same time and upon leaving, spoke with an old friend who agreed that whilst the band were good, it was way too loud for such a small venue.

Would rate 0 if possible. Absolutely appalling service throughout which is such a shame because the food was beautiful. Staff were constantly slagging off customers in earshot of other customers. Constantly discussing that they need “table x out” making customers feel rushed. There was a certain brunette waitress who wasn’t in uniform instead had a “white fox” branded hoodie on, who was incredibly rude, and seemed to have a “ringleader” mentality, getting other staff involved with the “slagging off”. If the time slots aren’t working, you need to look at a different booking system rather than rushing customers who are paying higher than average for food in your establishment. One couple arrived earlier than expected and was told to come back in 20 minutes because “other customers coming in are a priority” and they said they didn’t wish to return, and of course the mouthy little brunette slagged them off in front of the whole tiny restaurant. I’m not typically a trip advisor user but the owner has conveniently turned Facebook reviews off. I’d save your money and go somewhere that isn’t a garden shed with no windows, minimal heating and no space to swing a cat.

Absolutely shocked and saddened by the poor service at this place. Its a shame as the food was lovely but would never return based on service alone. Staff were consistently slandering customers where other customers could hear throughout my visit, including ourselves. One waitress in particular in a beige hoodie was beyond rude and borderline offensive. Constantly being reminded that you need to be "out" at x time when you're trying to enjoy a meal out is far from ideal. If I wanted fast food I'd have gone to mcdonald's and saved myself £80+ in the meantime. The restaurant itself is pokey and cramped and for the money charged, you don't get the experience I was expecting. I'd avoid and find another local buisnesses where your custom is valued. My son in law has had a message from the owner after our visit telling us we are never welcome back, thankfully we weren't planning on anyway.

Good place to eat if you eat meat. Used to love going to this restaurant before they scrapped all of the good vegetarian options. They used to do veggie chilli, veggie lasagne, 2 different veggie burgers and more. Now all they do is a halloumi burger and halloumi fries according to their website menu. Very disappointing as used to love coming here. Feel like they are no longer concerned with vegetarian/vegans. 2 years ago I would have given 5 stars.

Took a family of 7 for a meal. Went for the 20oz steaks - only had x1 - told to order in advance. Absolutely fabulous food. Attentive, but not intrusive service and the GREATEST cheese cake EVER. 10/10 Also catered for celiac diner, who said best presented meal she had received. will be returning.

Dig this place. Well worth a visit for a BIG feed. I felt it was pricey but 4 of us ate for £80 which included a side dish and the tip. So, not ridiculous all told (unlike the portions!). The Bombay Bad Boy was £21 plus £3 supplement for it served on a shovel. And there were more expensive burgers on the menu. The Lasagne burger was £24 without the shovel. That said, the shovel does mean larger portions. You need to have the shovel experience for it's novelty. My daughter had two butterfly chicken breast in her burger bun. Absolutely huge! And tasty to boot. I wondered if the chicken might be over cooked and dry, as is often the case, but not so. It was just right, still tender and succulent. Very quirky venue tucked away behind the Premier shop. One of the tables was a cable drum on its side. Really warm atmosphere though, and the girls serving were gems.

Food was ok, overpriced.. staff then walked passed me while eating with 2 black bin bags which was strange.. then I was told there was no ice cream left which was included in my granddaughters meal 👎🏼

My family want last night for my twins birthday. We booked the table back in August as we heard nothing but good about the place. However, when we arrived we walked in with my one year old Grandson and there was a huge table of people stood on the chairs and tables, singing, and shouting and swearing. I was tempted to walk back out but we travelled 80 miles round trip. Once we sat down we ordered drinks, I had a latte, it came half full (I asked for half a shot) I then asked three times for extra milk and sugar, after 20 mins they brought my milk but advised they run out of sugar. They started bringing the food out and got orders wrong and my Son (who's birthday it was) had to wait half hour after everyone else was served because they forgot about his order. When is order came there was no fillings in his burger just cheese. Melanie our server was one of the rudest waitresses I have ever come across, we tried to get her attention and she raised her hand and walked off, she was also seen mimicking me when I was complaining to one of the assistant managers. Gemma on the other hand was amazing and couldn't apologise enough, we ended up having most of the meals free and complimentary drinks. My Daughter then ordered a latte which came in a half pint glass and was advised to be careful as it was very hot, we noticed the glass starting to crack so had to complain again. The food wasn't awful but it certainly wasn't great. If you are looking for somewhere nice to eat and drink give this place a wide berth. It is as rough as they come and most of the staff and chefs need lots more training.

An awesome little place to eat.

Waste of £40, didn't eat my rib and wouldn't bring it home for my dog because he wouldn't eat it either, i have been asked to confirm my comments by the owner well ok, i can confirm thay my wife and i sat down at 5.15 pm. could not have coffee (machine is broken) so ended with coke (2.50)per can, my wife had her food placed in front of her by 5.25 and it looked ok, my ribe came out at the same time and looked terrible, was not cooked and was pure fat, which could not be cooked the 10 minutes that we sat there, therefor it must have been (cooked) earlier (precooked), we paid our bill and left by 5.45 pm, my reason for not complaining at the time was a simple fact, it was our wedding anniversary, to the owner direct enjoy your £40 Vince chinnock

Well thought we would give this place a whirl for hubby's birthday, upon arrival instantly noticed how very small, dark, dinghy and quite depressing the one tiny room was, crammed with tables, chairs and long wooden benches, so close together there was no room to move or to get in and out for the toilets, no windows, no skylights, no ventilation at all, still we looked at the tiny menu & placed our order, the starters all in all looked ok and were eaten, the first main meal to arrive again looked ok, until it was put in front of us, wow the burger looked grey and crumbled away like sawdust, also they were all drowning in bbq sauce and rubbery tasteless cheese yukk, fries were floppy and full of oil, the child's chicken nugget meal was just gross, again grey in colour, the breadcrumbs just fell off dripping in oil, fries the same floppy & full of oil, very expensive for inedible food, young inexperienced staff, left to just cope, utter disappointment, couldn't wait to get out from there to get some fresh air into my lungs, not somewhere I would recommend or return too.

Well, where to start, this place really is a hidden gem! If you are after honest, tasty, and unique food then you need to try The Mine. The place is tucked up behind a corner shop, in the most unlikely of places. The Mine theme is the prominent as soon as you walk into the venue, and it works so well. It is not the biggest of places, but it is full of character and the staff greet you with a warm welcome. The service was quick and friendly and were able to answer any questions we had about the food they had on offer. The menu is by no mean large but there is plenty to choose from, and if you are foodie then you will enjoy everything on the menu. The meals are massive so not for the faint hearted 😂! But even with the mounds of food the quality is incredible. You can taste every ounce of love and passion that is put into food that is put out here. It was great to talk with one of the waitresses as we were paying up and getting ready to leave. She was more than happy to talk and explained how the place all came about. It was so nice to hear this from her 1st hand and she clearly was very happy in her work. I cannot recommend this place enough! If you want big wholesome tasty meal that is a feast for your eye and belly then this is the place for you!

Such a great place! I've been trying to get here for soooo long and it was definitely worth the wait. It wasn't what I expected...it was even better. Staff were lovely, attentive and professional. Food was absolutely outstanding...even if we brought the majority home! The portions are huge! Will definitely be going back🥰 Thank you!

Every dish was HUGE. They weren't even expensive. If you're coming here, make sure to order mains to share instead of 1 dish per person. The staff were kind and willing to help. The food was delicious. The music was accoustic covers of current popular songs, which was quite nice. It is a little bit too dim for my taste though.

Last minute booking for a family of 10. Got us in straight away. Got to say the food was amazing! The portion size was huge! Excellent service from all staff couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be returning really lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Excellent food and great service. The restaurant is hidden behind a Premier Express convenience store, so it's easy to miss. The portions are huge. We ordered the platter for two and there was enough food to serve at least four. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen is doing an amazing job.

This place is an absolute gem. Visited for the first time with Family to celebrate a Birthday. Food was amazing. Lovely staff. Would definitely recommend and will be back again.

We saw pictures of the food on Facebook and thought we must try this place We ordered our food then saw the dreaded Hygiene rating sticker of 1 On the kitchen door …. It did put us off if I’m being honest the food was ok but until they do something about the 1 rating we wouldn’t rush back

First time visiting the restaurant after rave reviews from a friend. We absolutely loved the food and the decor, very original and has a great theme We shared garlic bread for starter, I had chicken tikka with fries, rice, onion rings and naan for main, my husband had bbq honey rib, fries and onion rings for his main; and for dessert we had white chocolate cheesecake and aero chocolate brownie, both with icecream All of the food was stunning, especially the rib meat, which was so tender and fell off the bone We upgraded our mains to the shovel to keep in with the mining theme and loved it Can't wait to come back again soon

Fantastic intimate restaurant with a family feel, amazing selection of meals and genourous portions! Lovely staff and lots of beautiful amd emotive photos of the area's proud mining past. Highly recommended.

If you like a huge pile of stodge this may be the place for you. Even the way it was piled up on the slate turned me off. Huge overcooked overpriced greased stodge. So much was wasted. Nice staff but we were told to leave...
