The Auld Cairn B and B arrange for our dinner at the Merchant House. The fish and chips were excellent. Fiona accommodated for my food allergy and Al had great stories to share during dinner.

Alan and Fiona were very welcoming from the minute we stepped in. After a long journey all we wanted was tea and a comfy bed. Both were delivered that's for sure. Fish and chips was fantastic and the room was comfortable and clean. Would definitely stay again. Thanks again.

No puedo esperar a volver!

My wife and I have used the Merchants enroute to Stranraer for a few years now but last Thursday the first visit this year and Alan and Fiona's welcome was as always great we had our usual cactchup on what's happened then enjoyed another superb meal of 3 courses home made piping hot and presented on the new table settings. Calum their son is now on table service and is very attentive their place is always spotless and very reasonably priced. If your using the local ferrries and are delayed no problem just phone them and your bed/ meal will be waiting we have already booked for next week

Stayed overnight in the Cairn (adjacent) awaiting the ferry next day. Had our evening meal and breakfast at The Merchants House and found the food was to a very high standard, obviously home cooked, and very reasonable priced. Our hosts were genial and very helpful. We will return to The Merchants/Cairn on our next visit to Ireland.

Called in for dinner as we were waiting for the boat. Lovely cosy place. Good wholesome choice on menu if limited. My husband had steak and kidney pie which he assures me was lovely even if the chips were very well done. My daughter and I had sausages and mash. Neither of us could eat the sausages. They tasted funny. My husband tried them and agreed. Landlord was concerned and took them back. Said his wife and himself ate one and it was ok. sorry we would not risk them. Maybe we are not used to that brand.. Had to ask several times for a jug of water. . Other people seemed to love it so maybe its just us.

The pub looked like it was under going renovations so we were directed to the public bar. It was very lived in with no other patrons however the meal was excellent including a tender and well cooked slab of sirloin steak. Quality of food surprised us.

Staying one night at the nearby Rhins of Galloway B&B (excellent!) and needing an evening meal, we were recommended by our hosts to try the Merchants House, a few minutes up the road. We were not disappointed!Lovely location with good views out over the Loch. Charming hospitality, good wholesome home-cooked food; including a significant chocolate pudding, which despite my initial hunger, I struggled to finish. More's the pity, as it was really tasty, but I was just simply too full up! All washed down with a refreshing beer for me and a nice little Merlot for my wife. Just the job! So if you find yourself in Cairnryan and are looking for somewhere to eat, you will not be disappointed! Give it a try!

If I could give more stars I would! We visited here on 2 occasions for food, as a family while holidaying along the road. My partner and I also enjoyed a few drinks in the beer garden on sunnier days. So impressed with the lovely, friendly, helpful staff. The food was really good pub grub, tasty and good value. I should have taken pictures, but I was too busy enjoying it!! Also, a special mention to the lovely wee lady behind the bar who got my rum & coke just right every time (1 ice cube 😉). If we lived locally, we'd be back for sure.

This little cafe serves amazing freshly made Vegan and Vegetarian food. We had delicious Thai dishes mine was tofu and vegetables in tamarind sauce with noodles- one of the best tasting dishes ever! They have a standard menu plus lots of specials. Also cakes and desserts Very reasonable prices with good service.
