The Melville Inn in Midlothian

We stayed there for two nights and spend both our evenings there. The staff is very friendly. Rebecca our waitress was a ray of sunshine. The meals were 10 out of 10. Nothing overly fancy, just really really tasty. The bar serves a nice amount of drinks, beers and spirits. And again the bartender was a joy and knew his stuff. We’ve had a few whiskies and a more than friendly chat. Would go there again if we ever get the chance. 100%.

I want to thank the amazing staff at the Melville Inn, for looking after our group so kindly last weekend. We were a group of 13 on a hen party, and the team could not have been more accommodating - they helped us put up a banner and balloons, and even laid out our gift bags and party favours on the table ahead of our arrival. The waitress was so attentive and took great care of us all night. So, a huge thank you to everyone who was working on Saturday 4th April - you gave us a fantastic night!

Overall a very pleasant experience, our waitress Aleetzia was amazing, always making sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back again. Also highly recommend the chocolate orange dome.... Delicious

Took my family out for dinner to Melvile Inn ,starters where very good ,4 of us had got fish and chips ,my opinion and the rest of family felt the fish was well and truly over cooked , chips some where nice on my wife plate her chips where like the well and truly over cooked and only had 5 normal sized chips ,we did say to the waitress but never had any body cone back to us to give explanation, very poor ,the ice cream was first class my grandson said my family always vote with our feet and sorry to say we will not go back ,

Very welcoming for us and our dog. Food was very good and service was excellent (Blair was very good making sure my wife's allergy wasn't a problem)

We had a wonderful dining experience at The Melville Inn for the Mother's Day lunch today. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect place for a special celebration. A special mention to Lauchlan and Terri, who provided outstanding service. They were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Their professionalism and warmth truly enhanced our experience. Highly recommend The Melville Inn for a fantastic meal – we’ll definitely be back!

We loved our visit this afternoon for Sunday dinner which was excellent. All the meats were top quality and veggie option was declared delicious! Lovely feel to the pub and thank you for having the fire on, very happy to get the table next time to it! Finally, great friendly staff who were top notch and in particular Lisa.

Food was wonderful. I ordered delivery and it came piping hot and very well presented. One bit of feedback I'd like to give though. I was very disappointed to see the only thing keeping the delivery bag closed was some stickers. So there is no guarantee whether the food will be tampered with or not by the delivery driver. In future I really hope you guys consider using staplers or something like that to seal the bag properly as every single restaurant or cafe I've ordered delivery from has used some kind of stapler or something to seal the bag to fully ensure if the food does get tampered with then the customer will 100% know it was the driver and not falsely blame the restaurant.

Love this place. Food is fantastic as are the staff. Our little girl is Ceoliac and the staff are very knowledgeable and go out of their way to make sure you are accommodated. They can get busy weekends and during holidays, so make sure to book ahead. Highly recommend 👌🏻

Great hotel with fantastic local transport links into city centre

The Sunday roast wellington was amazing! Our server Rebecca was brilliant and very attentive, would definitely recommend the Melville!

Waitress very slow to take order. I was served a chicken burger by mistake instead of a vegetarian chickpea burger. Had to wait for my meal to be remade and then ate it once all my family had finished their own meals. Waitress never apologised for this mistake. Also we were sitting with empty glasses for a long time and nobody asked if we needed any more drinks. We had to get up from the table to ask for them. Waiting staff appeared disinterested and bored. Very poor service and we won’t be returning.

Went for lunch with my husband. Very nice area for dining. Food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will be back soon. Highly recommend. Served by Terri who was pleasant and helpful.

Room was lovely after two nights stay only downfall was on Sunday at 11.15 we got refused breakfast we were under impression that breakfast/brunch was served until 11.45 So no food we ended up at elighaugh for food to your response we were told ovens were busy for Sunday roast

Visited for drinks and food as staying in the Innkeeper hotel next door. Friendly welcome from staff, we njoyed their bar snacks, scotch eggs and sausage rolls with our afternoon drinks. Evening visits, fish n chips, hamburger and chips, sirloin steaks with extra garlic mushrooms, all our food was delicious, we sat in bar area, a nice relaxed atmosphere with a roaring fire. For Breakfasts we sat in restaurant area, it was bright and spacious with nice views of the outdoor seating area. we njoyed a full Scottish and poached egg with avocado on toast with extra bacon added, again food was delicious, and at £10 it was well worth it, fruit juice and coffee/tea. All staff were luvly, chatty and welcoming, they all work very hard. Worth a visit, dog friendly to. :) :)

We had a great lunch here, the pie of the Sadat was fantastic and HUGE. So glad we shared it. My only complaint is that I would skip the coffee, it was watery and maybe instant? Still would recommend and we plan to be back!

We were staying at the hotel adjoining the restaurant. We popped into the Melville Inn in the afternoon for a drink and some bar snacks ( Scotch eggs and sausage rolls) 3 for £12 and they were lovely. Later over the 2 nights stay, we popped in, and the food was really good, serviced in a warm, friendly atmosphere.The log fire was nice on a damp winter night. Breakfast was also extremely good & great value as being just over £10. We would highly recommend this hotel as it's handy for Edinburgh & so easy to access from the ring road. Staff,food, and location all superb. 👏👏👍

Just popped in for some dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the food, decor and atmosphere. An excellent service from Lachlan too..Would highly recommend.

Had 2 wonderful meals here. On the second night we had the signature burger and my sister had the homemade steak and ale pie it was the best I have ever tasted. Our server Lauren was so friendly and helpful and very prompt in serving us and asking if everything was OK. I have no hesitation in recommending the Melville Inn it deserves a 5 star rating.

We were here for the valentines manu and the food was amazing, staff really friendly and helpful.

Arriving late after dropping a relative at the local hospital, we needed somewhere dog friendly as we are from out of town and this place is lovely, there's a dog area for dog people and a non dog area for non dog people, there are gravy bones (for dogs) and water bowls on the way in as well as a sign suggesting muddy paws and boots welcome, there is restaurant table service, bar service and service/order and pay via an app. The steak for me, and pizza for my OH was delicious and the bill wasn't too hefty, good selection of wines, spirits and beer, plus a big beer garden which looks like it would be lovely in summer when busy with guests. Thank You 😊

An absolute spectacle. Our favourite place, great location, close to dobbies garden centre. The food is perfect every time. the desserts are out of this world and the prices can be quite low actually , 12£ for the 3 bar snacks 👀 You can go quite fancy too, there are many incredible dishes on the 25£ course menu

Very nice room but very out of the way and above all expensive

The location is great as we are close to the Gilmerton area. There are many empty parking spaces there. Inside the restaurant is clean and gorgeous. They have some real fireplaces there. We found the staff very nice. We needed to change our table, and they helped us immediately. The food was so nice and beautiful. The fish and chips were so crispy. They had the best tomato ketchup that I could eat for dinner. I highly recommend it.

Really like this place. Usually has a nice cosy atmosphere, staff are friendly and attentive. Last couple of times my food has been a bit cold hence only 4 stars. Staff were apologetic when I mentioned this.

Great accommodation on the outskirts of Dalkeith. A short walk or drive and you are into the town centre or the train station where you can access Edinburgh. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and there was a great cooked breakfast with quality ingredients. The breakfast was waiter service rather than buffet, which was good because all of the food was freshly cooked and piping hot. There’s lots of good parking too.

Xmas eve lunch very busy and prices were fine as was food.. But the service was excellent.. Staff overworked but still friendly and professional.

Me and my family came in yesterday for Xmas dinner and we were not disappointed. The staff were absolutely amazing and made us feel very welcome. Lauren looked after us and she was absolutely amazing. Food was outstanding and came out presented so well. Nothing was to much trouble. The manager as well was so lovely. Thank you so much for making our xmas day. The staff had a lovely vibe going and it was a lovely atmosphere. So good that we have booked our xmas meal for next year. We will be back before then though. Well done to everyone this is how a place should run. ❤️

Visit was unplanned and a result of Elinhaugh not taking walk ins. Was my great nephews birthday. From the moment we walked in we were glad we did. Friendly welcoming staff, lovely atmosphere, delicious food, great service. First visit but will definitely be back.

We were severed by Blair. He knows his stuff as very pleasant, a great host. The food was lovely and large portions. Great atmosphere! This is the fourth time we have been and we shall be returning to enjoy a meal in the future.

Michael was absolutely fantastic with our table of 22 people. We have been for the past 3 years but this year was extra special to my family with losing our grandad who would usually be with us. Appreciated so much and back again next year!

Our family pre-Christmas dinner was spoilt by the terrible food served. There were cold, overcooked roast potatoes (my husband counted 10)which took up half the plate, the Yorkshire pudding was small, served with 2 slices of turkey. The gravy boat was half filled with gravy and half an inch of oil. They eventually returned with beef dripping gravy (for steak). There was a small portion of Brussels sprouts and dried up parsnip to be shared between 4 people!!! My grandson could not chew the tough fried steak and gave up eating as it was not edible. The waiter took off £30 for the complaint but really, we all left 3/4 of food on each plate. We will be going somewhere else next year.

Staff lovely , room spacious but could have done with a chair to sit on not just the beds . Definitely stay again tho .

I stayed here with my dad on a trip to visit Edinburgh. It's very close to the park and ride so easy to get in and out of the city. The rooms were lovely and it was just a short walk for breakfast in the mornings. The staff were some of the most friendly and helpful people I've encountered, truly an impressive and lovely team. Would definitely recommend. You often get these cards to prompt you to leave a review, but I wouldn't be leaving this if they didn't make such an impression on me. Thanks to Lauchlan who served us at dinner!
