Had a great meal, staff very friendly and attentive. Will come again when visiting family in Ayrshire Sorry to hear this place is closed now too!! Many many good places to eat closing down which is sad to hear 😥 Maybe somebody will take it over 🤞🏼

Went in for dinner on Friday night very good food and the service was great Hotel was very clean and welcoming

Disappointed with my meal on friday night . Cajun chicken lacked sauce and the wedges that came with it were inedible due to all the cajun spice on them. Staff made out they were really busy with bookings but could squeeze us in as long as we ordered quickly. I feel our meal was rushed to us

4 of us went on Saturday evening, food service and price were exceptional, portions were huge. A gem of a place.

Visited for our work Christmas meal - booked and preordered in advance - 2 courses for just under £18. The food was tasty and the portions were huge - Desperate Dan would have been delighted with the steak pie! There was an option for dessert, but after a starter and a main, nobody had room for that!

Great food staff very nice place is very clean would recommend anyone too go and have a lovely meal.The price's are very reasonable.

Lovely, friendly staff who are very attentive. Nice surroundings too. Their hamburgers are AMAZING and there's plenty of choice in the rest of a well laid out menu to please you.

Great food and great family welcome service

Great friendly service however after ordering food took about 45 minutes to arrive even though it was very quiet. Was looking forward to the food but it showed up and the appearance wasn't good, it tasted okay but not very good.

Went on a Thursday evening when they offer a special menu. Lovely surroundings and although a restricted menu we easily found something to enjoy. Two courses and a drink for about ten pounds was good value. Delicious pate and chicken goujons to start and fresh battered fish for mains. Waitress was more than efficient and very pleasant to converse with. However it was not busy. We have earmarked another Thursday when we arrive back from a wee break up north. Enjoy!

Had a meal here again and was not disappointed. Nicely presented and served very politely. I would recommend this hotel for a lovely meal in nice surroundings. Well done to the owners.

great night at the Maxwood Hotel last night for Marys birthday meal was excellent and plenty of it still stuffed thanks to all the staff and friends for a great time .

Great food, Great prices, Generous Helpings

My friend and I had lunch today and enjoyed our meals. The normal menu was not available as the festive menu is now in place. We both had 2 courses at £17.95 per head. This was a bit expensive for a lunch but we were already there so went with it. We both had the macaroni for our mains which was MASSIVE and the customer service was personal and natural. This is a good wee place for Galston however having such a restricted menu on December 1st has meant I scored 3 out of 5.

We popped in here with our young niece for a spot of dinner. Glad we did. Food was excellent. Eben our picky niece ate all her spaghetti bolognese. Highly recommend.

Friendly staff nice selection of foods

Went here for big family dinner doo, waited a hr and a half for dinner. When it arrived steak pie was dried out pastry was bone dry and hard, chips were dried out left over half of dinner as couldn't bare it. Also family members got gammon steak that was like a shoe sole, it too was dried out and not good. My sons burger was over cooked and to dry tht he didn't finish it either, this then made it clear we weren't ordering dessert. We also got served a bottle of cider that was 6 months out of date. This has made me very annoyed and I shall never be back here for meal again. I told waitress that dinner wasn't good and we still got charged the full price 😐.

Nice to see the maxwood serving good food once again, new owners in the last couple of years have brought it back up to a good standard, had our evening meal with 10 people including 2 fussy kids! Food was great, I’ve heard a few people complaining about having to wait too long between coarse but we didn’t experience that and if your out for a meal what’s the hurry anyway?! As long as it’s good when you get it, that’s my opinion anyway! Kids loved it and eat everything which was amazing as they can be fussy wee gits at times! Lol.. definitely be back as it on our doorstep and can walk home :):)

What makes a good restaurant? I am sure it is a large number of components, which is perhaps is why so few seem to make it these days. Decor, ambiance, decorative order, food, cooking, presentation and of course good staff who care, are all in there. Some make it for a while but many fall by the wayside with the passage of time, failing to remain consistent. If the Maxwood retains its consistency, if there is any justice it will do well. It has a substantial car park, and as soon as you enter it just looks bright, well decorated and was warm on a cold night. Our host, Jennifer greeted us with genuine warmth and we just knew this was going to be a positive experience, and how right we were. There is a good menu, with a special deal menu on Thursday nights with adequate choices. We opted for the full Monty however. I had the haggis + black pudding bonbons to start, which were hot, delicious and really quite substantial. My wife opted for the pâté with oatcakes, which was also good. I followed with an excellent quality sirloin with lashings of peppercorn sauce. It came garnished with onion rings, mushrooms and tomato, (so unlike the naked steak from MPW steakhouse in Glasgow that I reviewed 2 weeks ago.) I had the option of potatoes, which I took, unlike Marco's, which only offered chips. All the elements of the dish were excellent and substantial. My wife had the steak pie, attractive, tasty and again a substantial portion, which came with a plate brimming with veg and chips. My daughter opted for fish and chips, which were to large fillets of fresh fish in crisp golden grease-free batter. We don't often go for desserts, but this cosy venue offered cheese and biscuits (often missing from menu’s these days) which again was a large plate with chunks of several cheeses, oat cakes (or crackers), pickle and grapes. My daughter had a huge portion of sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, the delicious sauce almost filling the large bowl. The coffee came with both tiny shortbread biscuits and tablet and there was a reasonable choice of malt whiskys. There was no downside to our meal, especially not the bill, which to be honest was a lot less than I expected from such a perfect evenings repast. I felt as if I wanted to beat a drum to advertise its excellence to encourage more people to try it. I will be back and soon!

Really enjoyed our experience at the maxwood, atmosphere lovely ,food fantastic, although a bit too much chips, didn't have room for pud which I was looking forward to, cut them back! booked again for that special birthday

Went there for our anniversary with my parents on Saturday 20th May. I am a coeliac and was very happy with being given a list of what was available to me. I ordered 3 courses and they were all superb, everyone enjoyed their meal and I must thank The Maxwood for the bottle of bubbly to celebrate our anniversary. We still be back
