A good traditional town centre pub retaining some heritage features such as the very pleasant seating booths and decorative screens. There is an interesting 'window' in the floor revealing the cellar. An OK ale range for my visit and three ales and a cider were on the six available hand pumps. Alongside the dreaded John Smith’s smooth were Old Mill Brewery Styrian Wolf bitter, and Black Sheep’s Monty Pythons Holy Grail Ale plus a cider and these were in decent nick. A decent enough traditional pub for a pint in central Preston, especially if you can get one of the two private booths on the right hand side as we did.

A terrific historic pub in the heart of Preston, tucked away to the side of the new Indoor Market. Confusingly, though now called The Market Tap it still has its old Market Tavern sign in place (itself a words only replacement for a previous more colourful image of the market in full operation). The pub is ornate, cosy, with lots of unimposing pop music playing in the background. There are great guest ales and discounts for CAMRA real ale group members. Staff are friendly and polite. A great pub to stop off at for a break when shopping or doing bisuness in Preston.

Went to the Market Tavern ( new name) on a real ale trip to Preston. Called in after a previous disappointing pub. This pub didn't disappoint , in fact was a real Jewel . Six real ales, and a barman who was very knowledgable and very friendly. He promoted his own beers, but also helped us in our trip with other real ale recommendations. Would definitely go back.

In the corner of every City is always a small jewel. And this is Preston’s for the Real Ale Enthusiasts. I don’t know enough to pontificate about pale/amber ales etc, but the taste and ambiance was spot on. Well Done and Thank You for your gracious hospitality

Visited yesterday, a lovely hidden gem, a cosy (if a little chilly) pub. Loved the olde worlde traditional decor. Good menu - was happy to find ‘something different’ as a vegetarian! Friendly locals & lovely staff who were prepared to go the extra mile.

Called in at the weekend along with a group of mates. We didn't eat but the ales were lovely and well kept. The atmosphere was also good and the staff friendly.... have to say that when I was a student in the 1990's this place was not the friendliest put but this weekend I loved it.... also a great jukebox .... would recommend this place if your on a ale trail kind of night out...

Great atmosphere in this traditional market pub and a very busy place. The food looked good for the next time we visit Preston. Had a pint of Wainwright's which was excellent quality (it can vary) and left with a very favourable impression of the hostelry.

Market Tavern is now known as the Market Tap. I visited with family members on a night out around Preston on Friday 12.10.18. And was taken in by the lovely clean decor and welcoming staff. I.d never gone into the Tavern before, associating it with the older mans pub. But hands up to the new owners and what they are trying to do. I will definitely be visiting again. I understand they serve food and will be having live entertainment in 2019. So do pay them a visit and check out the glass cellar, hidden under a mat, if the pubs not too busy.

We were in town on Saint Patricks night and just passing between pubs. We had already eaten elsewhere and popped in here for a drink. he staff are friendly enough and service is good. The pup is well decorated throughout and seating is comfortable but the place was mostly empty and i am not sure as to why.

Market Tavern used to be my local and home from home it has now been taken over been back once and never again! It has lost all the ambiance and that local feeling. Apart from the fact that prices have skyrocketed you are made to feel extremely uncomfortable by management watching your every order and move. I've been a local there for many years and the previous landlords were pure gems worth their weight in gold who know how to run a pub. Sorry but there are other places for our "social club"

Was told it had been recently refurbished, so call in. Nothing special. Ale was warm & tasted like end of barrel. Not many drinker in & those only had a pint & moved on. Fumes from smokers outside were drifting in. Also smell on dog in the air. Not a good experience. Did I pick an off day?

A really stunning pub with great owners and staff. Always give you a warm welcome and make you feel part of the family and go out of their way to accomodation you....they give a whole new meaning to 5 star service, something a lot of places lack. Would highly recommend this pub for a night out with friends or even alone as you are absorbed into the friendship of staff and regular patrons alike

we had been to the Guild Hall to watch Dr Hook and decided to try a few drinks at the Market Tavern. The pub was very quiet when we entered so it was easy to get to the bar and to get served. the range of drinks available was limited and we could not get the beers we usually drink so had to settle for alternatives. It seemed as if the people in the bar were mostly regulars and there were very few visitors. So the bar staff were not very busy. At one stage there were dogs wandering in and out off the bar (i thibk they were the owners dogs) this is something that really irritates me and i believe should not be allowed in ant Food & Drink establishment for whatever the reason may be..

This is another Preston Town Centre Bar which has seen very little change over many many years. We have always frequented this and the other older Preston Town Centre Bars. The bar has character and warmth and always feels like a cosy and welcoming place....

We visited Preston to have breakfast at our favourite eatery but, alas, it had closed. We did, however, discover Bob & Berts just across the way on Fishergate. What a superb breakfast and the coffee is excellent. We highly recommend it.

A busy lunchtime, but despite other reviews the service was very attentive and timely. Lots of choice and variety on the menu...we opted for mackerel and beetroot salad and the salmon and crayfish salad. Both absolutely delicious, very fresh and generous portions. Blackcurrant and lemon posset dessert was to die for! Very good and already looking forward to our next visit!

This restaurant is slightly off the main shopping street in the city and at first glance down the street it looked a rather gloomy area at night, but we were totally surprised with the decor and size of the place. The staff were very attentive...

Booked but didn’t need to as there was plenty of spare tables : you could order via an app but we ordered at the bar.Fair choice of drinks but having only one size for sparkling drinks! Bring honest the starters of garlic and cheese bread wax a total let down even for the price! Mains however of Jerk Chicken and another chicken dish was near perfect and value for the price. Some lovely staff were attentive and friendly. Overall decent visit
