Myself and a couple of friends dined in the restaurant area of The Marina. It was a lovely atmosphere and we were served promptly. The fish and chips were delicious and we also enjoyed the curry sauce! I will definitely be back :)

I don’t usually write negative reviews, but after my last few experiences at The Marina, I feel it’s necessary. This place used to be incredible, but sadly, the quality has really gone downhill. Over the past 20 visits, the service has been consistently rude. I’ve always been polite and brushed it off, but it has gotten to the point where I can’t ignore it anymore. The food has been even worse. The fish has tasted like it's been sitting for 30 days, and the chips feel like they’re leftovers from days ago. I was offered a replacement meal, which I was grateful for, and I made sure to thank the staff and even apologised for my complaint. However, when I got home and tried the replacement, it was somehow even worse than before. It’s such a shame because this place used to be my go-to, but I won’t be returning. I don’t take writing this review lightly, but I feel it’s important to be honest. I’ve seen from other reviews that the owner doesn’t handle criticism well, so I hope this is taken constructively. I’m truly sorry to say this, but something needs to change here.

The fish was slightly greasy but crisp and tasty

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!! Batter was completely saturated in oil as you can see from the photos and was also undercooked and slimy. Chips were also undercooked on top of that. Worker also forgot most of the order so had to keep reminding them whilst waiting. Will definitely not be going back and will going to Marcos in future.

Lovely fish although I don’t eat chips it came with them I didn’t try one quite nice. Possibly got someone else’s order. Sorry I’m 76 no way I could have caught her. Would order again but will ask to check next time

My wife and I both had the chippy classic, fish and chips. It was extremely fresh fish, well cooked in lovely batter. Very tasty. Our server was a very pleasant young lady, doing well on her first night waiting tables there. It's not posh or fancy, it's just good quality fish and chips in an unpretentious café setting.

Im a big fan of the marina it was my fav and my partners boy do i miss the old owners it was amazin had a fish supper 3 to 4 weeks ago and the fish was burnt it was shockin and the fish had been snapped in haf as it wouldnt fit in the box by a new cook and batter was solid old owners were always profection with all food had no flavour either :( wont be back

I had a family meal out here and everyone was happy with their food, all very tasty, we didn’t have to wait long on food either and staff were happy to assist.

The fish was excellent crispy batter. The pig in blanket was not what I expected. It was nice but I wouldn’t have it again. Onion rings were really good too. Pickled onion a bit soggy not very crisp. Fritters were nice and we were given extra

Well well seeing as you have blocked myself and my wife I will post here. You have accused my wife of harassment oh and her imaginary friends when the truth is she commented on a post you put up it was then removed she the put same comment up and you blocked her no harassment at all. It seems you don't like the fact your food has dropped in standards but rather than take the good with the bad you post that people are telling lies about you. The sad part is you will ruin the place with bad food and the worst attitude in the world not very good for you starting out as a new business. Now before you post on here we are all telling lies make sure you can back that up with proof

Worst chippie experience ever. Service was really poor and food sub-standard. Considering this is one of the most expensive take-outs in the town it was really disappointing. Won't be back

Very disappointed this week. Everything was cold. There was no dip with the mozzarella sticks and the burger wasn’t very good.

Ordered Cajun chicken with fries. Unfortunately the food came to the table cold after we had to wait almost 40 minutes for it. The complaint was received very friendly and a new meal was offered. After only 5 minutes the dish was brought to the table again. Absolutely over-seasoned and since the plate was served holding a tea towel, I strongly suspect that the food complained about was simply warmed up in the oven. After a few bites I left the rest. Unfortunately it wasn't edible. Dear owner, I have not been rude in any way. That's not my style. I politely said my food was cold and I was sorry I had to complain. I didn't insult or treat the staff rudely, either on site or in the review: "The complaint was received very friendly and a new meal was offered." Also, I didn't mention that the billing was wrong. We were charged for food that we didn't order. And finally I would like to say that I too work hard for my money and I'm tired of spending my money on an unacceptable meal. First cold and then completely over-seasoned and not edible. I'm sorry, that's not possible. It's not fair that you portray me negatively as my review is intended as a suggestion for improvement.

Bought two takeaway fish suppers and a tub of curry sauce. Chips and sauce were reasonable but the fish was another story. Expected much of a fish and chip shop on Arbroath harbourside but the fish was disgusting, possibly the worst we have had anywhere which is saying something. Shrivelled dried up fish inside a mountain of inedible, dark coloured, over-cooked batter. Should have taken it back but couldn’t be bothered. Anyone who could produce this is unlikely to improve on a second attempt. Somebody needs to go to cook school.

Fish was crispy and fresh. Fritters were nice not too thick. Chicken goujons a bit bland but luckily I bought dip with them so they were lovely. Milkshake fab

When visiting Arbroath, we thought that being a fishing town, we thought that a fish supper from a chip shop right on the harbour would surely be the best one could buy. How wrong were we! The fish was so overcooked the batter was virtually hollow. There were also black flecks inside the batter from the dirty oil and whilst the batter at least was crispy it was saturated with oil. Probably the worst chipper i've had. To be fair to the girl serving on the counter, she was on the ball and seemed to be running the place single handed - she deserves to be better supported. The lad doing the frying seemed uninterested and was clearly doing an awful job. Advice is simple, AVOID AT ALL COST.

Great little place to sit down and enjoy your fish and chips (particularly good chips), and/or Arbroath Smokie. Nothing fancy, but well done.

Staff are excellent , Best chip shop in town and I have been caravaning in Arboath for 14 years , cooks with beef dripping not oil a MUST TRY FOR ANYONE WHO LIKE CHIP SHOP FOOD this chip shop has gone down hill since new owners taken over 6 months ago food over cooked not nice will not be back was the best chip shop now the food is greasy and over cooked. Some of the front of house staff look scruff not a good image will never go back to this shop since new owners taken over first and last visit 8th of June 2024 SUCH A SHAME

Just visited for some chips to sit at the harbour with at the bank holiday weekend. Worst chips we've had in a long time as they were under cooked and tasted like cheap oil. They weren't cheap as chips either £3 for a small and £4 for large portion. Really disappointing. Won't go back.

We had travelled from Fife for a drive. Ended up in Arbroath. This is probably up there with one of the worst takeaways I have had. It was supposed to be breaded fish but I couldnt even take a guess what it was. It was quite hard and crispy ..... strange. The whole lot tasted funny, chips were not even a bit brown, tasted like the oil hadnt been changed for a while. Would I return ..... never. There are other chippies close by so would go to them instead. I will stick to Anstruther, no comparison.

Asked for salt on everything and was all covered in vinegar which we don’t like hence why I asked just for salt so ruined the meal for us

Worst fish and chips we have ever eaten🥹. Slimy batter - not crisp, soggy chips. Pre ordered with salt and vinegar - the boy forgot 🙁. And not cheap - £9.50 per supper. Won’t be back. So disappointing.

As usual, great fish and chips. And the giant onion rings are the bees knees.

Fresh fish is available here, although not at a bargain price. But it tastes, and above all, not like old fat. To recommend.

Visitor to Arbroath. Tried The Marina. Nice place, good service and nice people. But the fish supper was poor. Soggy and not fully cooked. Wished I’d gone to one of the many others nearby. Maybe a one off? 30th Sept.

A great Fish Tea with battered haddock, chips, peas, bread and a pot of tea all served within view of the harbour and served by fast and friendly staff and at under £15 you can't find a better deal.

J'étais là pour goûter les célèbres smokies et je n'ai pas été déçue, la formule le thé était très convenable. Pour le reste, c'est un Fish & Chips habituel: pas de haute cuisine mais acceptable. Le personnel est correct aussi mais semble blasé et fatigué de devoir grimper une volée de marche à chaque service car le restaurant est au second étage. Prix adaptés

Très bon fish and chips sur Arbroath. Personnel sur sympa et de bons conseils. J'ai testé le Smokie, haddock fumé, spécialité du coin. Un délice mais attention il y a des arrêtes car le poisson est complet. La purée de petits pois est excellente. Belle position sur le port mais vous pouvez manger sur place.

Got a delivery to the Seaton Estate Caravan park. Driver was very nice and polite, the food was good. I highly recommend as they'll deliver to all 3 caravan parks. 👍👍

If you need gluten free fish and chips, this is your place to go. Freshly made and delicious. Hubby had smoke super and he said it was delicious too. We will definitely be back. Sorry no pictures as we dig in and it was too late 😅

We visited this place and must admit the meal was a disappointment. It was billed as a great fish restaurant but the meals we had were very average. In fact, we’ve had better in our local fish and chip shop. Perhaps they had an off day, but it wasn’t for us.

It was probably the freshest haddock that I ever had. I like fish and chips and never complain but this dish was absolutely phenomenal. The portion was quite big so my husband had to finish mine but we couldn't complain. We wanted to take it away but we changed the mind while taking the order. That wasn't a problem for staff. We had a long trip that day and it was nice to sit and enjoy a meal. Really nice restaurant.

Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious, and the lady who served me kindly wrapped it especially for us so it would stay hot for the 15 minute drive home. Look forward to coming back at some point to dine in and appreciate the view in the summer. (Saw plates going to the tables and the portions looked great.)

Made a quick stop while passing and had a lovely time. Great, friendly staff, super clean, food was perfect. Will definitely stop again my next time on the east coast.

The wife and I were looking forward to fish and chips. Buy unfortunately the fish was not cooked long enough or the batter too thick, the inside of the batter was soggy. There was loads of little crispy chips. Which I like but not amount so not many normal chips !!!

Just been here for my first time from caithness (thurso) tried chippys everywhere and woow this is far by the best ... service is ace owner man is lovely and the other staff so friendly and welcoming and i dont eat fish ever but tried the fish today and wow is all im guna say cnt wait to try u again soon and firat time hearing of a tattie fritter and trying andn👌 highly recommended the best yet

I was in the marina with my partner for some dinner and it was amazing!! I had a smokie dinner and it was perfect!! The service was excellent. Didn't get the servers name, blonde haired girl, but she was really good with us. Conversed and was very pleasant. The place is very tidy and comfortably snug. We sat by the window and enjoyed the view, food and experience there. Will definitely be back and will recommend to others too. Thank you to the staff, and in particular, our server!

Fish was very small, more batter than fish and not very tasty Haddock at all . Chips were ok.

Good food and a large portion size. Can’t complain at the price as it’s roughly what you’d pay elsewhere. Our only complaint was when we asked if they took card payments the girl clearly didn’t hear us, a gentleman in a white coat looked at the girl and said in a not nice tone the customer is talking to you. The girl apologised and then answered once we asked again, we felt if it was a big deal to the guy in the coat I’m sure he could have answered us as the girl serving didn’t hear us ask.

Nice friendly little place with lovely seating area.

Rude chef..with bad jokes like "you should go to MacDonald's". We asked for take away..4 different choices (including rib eye), they put the orders in carton boxes and when we stopped for eating we noticed there was no rib eye.

We ordered High Tea, consists of bread & Butter, pot of tea, plate of Fish, Chips & Peas, plenty condiments, chippy sauce. Lots of tables as they also have upstairs section which has great views of the harbour and stream. Staff were great, food was great, view was great. Bright and clean, great value for money.

We arrived just after 3pm not realising that they don't open until 4pm. However a lovely lady came out and when we said we were looking for a fish tea she invited us in and showed us to a table overlooking the harbour. The fish tea was amazing. Obviously very fresh and no extra wait time. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and we were treated exceptionally well considering they weren't to be open for almost an hour. My favourite fish shop in Arbroath. I have had a few take aways over the summer and the fish fryer is always cheery and funny. Definitely recommend anyone visiting or passing through to stop for a real treat!

This is a lovely chip shop and restaurant that we go to regularly for the fish tea and I'd say probably the best chips around, and yes I've had chips from quite a lot of the chippy's in the town.
