Great music, great cider, the food is as good as vegan food gets if you are into it and still very good if you're not. Nice people

I had my 40th birthday party here of around 40 people taken place downstairs in the white room where you can put up your own decorations, a buffet of both savoury and sweet options are provided at a reasonable price with a wide selection, it’s well worth the money and was a massive hit. You get to play your own music and your own bar and the bar staff were amazing. I spotted them occasionally dancing and singing along to the music which I loved. I would absolutely recommend The Mad Hatter for a private function, I had the best night, thank you Mad Hatter!!

Convenient for Haymarket and not too crowded.

Spent yesterday afternoon and early evening in this bar before going to a concert, lovely pint of Guinness and although the menu was limited in options the food was delicious. Nice, friendly staff and atmosphere.

Cool wee pub... Nice tunes, beer and burger for a ten spot is Quality... really tasty and good portion of crispy fries... cool political discussion going on... I like accents... they are cool... American Lady very polite and nice to everyone... 🙂

We hired the downstairs bar for my partners 30th birthday this weekend, and had a great experience. We were able to play our own music and the buffet provided was great. The venue is a good size with lots of seating and nice artwork, we were allowed to hang up our own decorations too and were given access to the venue hours before the event to set this all up. We were served at the bar by Seb who was very welcoming to guests and helped us to organise the cake too. All in all, a great night was had by everyone and we would definitely come back! I visit the Mad Hatter quite regularly but last week I organised a night out with my office and went to the Mad Hatter for food, drinks and the Quiz they hold on Wednesdays. The food was outstandingly, all plant based but exceptional! The service and atmosphere were welcoming and attentive. The quiz was busy but well managed, and a lot of fun. Lovely night!

Cozy bar, plenty of drinks and good food and lovely people working!! Definitely coming back and recommend!!

Went for an event - which sadly meant the kitchen was closed in order to cater for the event. The menu looks amazing but the finger food (whilst very nice) didn't hit the mark which we had hoped for. Very crowded downstairs, not sure how the capacity is 50 people? Could have done with a wider selection of beers. Would certainly return though and try it when the kitchen is open if the chance comes up. Then will re-evaluate the rating.

I loved this little bar, really cosy atmosphere situated 5 min walk from Haymarket. The food is excellent, really high quality food is served. Wednesday they do a vegan menu. I am not vegan so also went somewhere else but so glad I didn’t. The vegan dishes were excellent, great flavours. Will definitely be back

A really lovely and welcoming environment, the food was absolutely delicious. Great value for money and was so tasty. The waitress and bar man were very polite and helpful.

Lovely pub, attentive and professional staff, lovely food! We had a warm goats cheese salad, Bao buns and spring rolls. Wines and then the best Coffee Martini I have ever had. We will be back!

It's not bad, but I asked for an old fashioned and the bartender said he couldn't make me one because he didn't have the ingredients. Considering it's probably the most basic cocktail one can order, it was a bad experience.

Great friendly staff and excellent service. A little expensive had pint of Morretti and bottle of cider £11. But nothing new for Edinburgh music was great able to have a conversation without shouting at each other.

My new favourite pub in my favourite city Called in after the tattoo for a quick drink 4 drinks later we were still there and I’ll be back tomorrow. Great atmosphere with some classic 80’s tunes.

I'd arranged to meet 3 friends here tonight for a meal and drinks. On arrival I was asked if I planned to eat, I said yes. I was told the kitchen was closed until 8. I said I'd have a drink, so I could wait for my friends to plan something else. I was told the bar was closed. I was completely sober, and I am baffled that something in my appearance made them decide I was not good enough for them. 1 of my friends asked again half an hour later and was told it was open as usual. This has never happened to me before and I'm quite disgusted. And to add further insult you accuse me of lying in your reply. There was no confusion, I was told the kitchen didn't open until 8 and then that you would not serve me a drink.

I enter with my kid. A man comes towards me and say: - What can I do for you? - Can I enter with kids? - Only if you order food - Great, we want food - Uhmm, but today we don't serve food... It was easier to say that you don't accept kids, 'in it?

Gezellige plek, vriendelijk personeel. Burger is heerlijk, de vega versie doet niet onder voor de reguliere.

Nice littel pub serving horrible burgers. They didn't look like the pictures at all. Several beers on the menu were sold out as well. Maybe an ok place if you want a cocktail?

Lovely little pub with good selection of drinks

A great little discovery. We were going for a few pints prior to the rugby at Murrayfield and the queues outside Malones next door were long prior to opening so we popped in here and were not disappointed. All the tables were reserved for people arriving at 12 which gave us an hour and suited us perfectly. The service was fast and the guinness excellent. I was also tempted by the bacon butties on offer and they were very well filled and good value.

Went with my daughter and her partner for the Wednesday quiz night, the quiz is held in a downstairs room which was freezing. Apart from the cold room, the food was decent and so was the quiz

Attended here for a dear friends 60Th Birthday bash. The venue is small,so you are constantly squeezing past people. Prices are average for the pub trade. Teenagers had to leave at 10pm including my friends two kids. was warned TWICE about sitting on the edge of a table in a reserved area. Would not visit again.

Great little pub with great atmosphere and good friendly service

We went here hoping for food and cocktails. It was nicely decorated inside but we were disappointed to find out that on the night we arrived they were not doing either food or cocktails. The member of staff behind the bar was very friendly and nice and did explain why and we understood the reasons but was still disappointing. We did stay for a different drink and it was a good experience and we’re still glad we visited.

Small quirky bar based on Alice in Wonderlands, The Mad Hatter. A good selection of cocktails, great location. Not too busy on a Saturday afternoon, so we managed to get a table. They don't offer table service which is a bit of a shame.

I came here as it was close to my hotel. Its a small pub, with massive character. The staff are 1st class. The drinks and food are well priced. I had the BBQ burger and it was great. Would highly recommend. If you get a chance definitely come!

Small pub serving good food. Me and 3 others had dinner here the other day. Service was fast and the food was pretty good for pub grub. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We got chicken goujons, duck spring rolls, bao buns & bacon and cheesy chips for starters. All of which went down well. For mains, 2 of us got burgers, my bro got nachos and my wife got the chicken and chorizo wrap. All of which was pretty spot on apart from the burger patties themselves. In the bun with the fillings they were fine but on their own they were very dry and lacked any flavour. This was the same for both burgers. Overall, a decent dinner and particularly good for pub food.

Came for a meal and drinks before going to Murrayfield. Handy for the train station a d tram. Was really busy but had booked a table. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Food was great, had a burger with no bun and chips. It is mainly burgers on the menu and a goats cheese salad which looked amazing. Good atmosphere and music. Will definitely come back whenever back in Edinburgh and in the area.

On a weekend trip to Edinburgh, we went to the Mad Hatter - a small, friendly bar with attentive (low-key/casual but good ) bar people/staff, a relaxed atmosphere/vibe, had a great burger, ( the Frog Footman ) fries, and a pint (Beavertown), and my partner had a cocktail! Great place, i want to go back!

It was all right, nothing great, nothing terrible. Nice selection of drinks and cosy space.

Small bar which had a large, friendly atmosphere. Drinks did not seem extortionately priced. I would have liked to have had a greater cocktail choice, but it’s probably not worth it for them, being so small. Those we did have were lovely. I highly recommend the Amaretto sour.

A lovely wee gem in the Haymarket area. Delightful ambiance & decor. Terrific range of drinks and beautiful cocktails. Warm, friendly regulars but the staff are this establishments greatest asset. They honestly couldn’t do enough for us. Superb service and they recommended some smashing things to see and do in the area. Unfortunately didn’t have the chance to try the food offering on earth his short trip, but look forward to doing so when we’re back in July. Absolutely first rate.

Bust because of the rugby..Great place

This place is across from the leonardo hotel haymarket. A popular place with people traveling to Edinburgh. I myself was over from Dublin, husband and daughter in tow. I was pushing to try here the few days we were here, my husband wasn't too keen. Obviously I got my way and on our last day we headed over for dinner. Pretty empty inside. There was a couple sitting by the window having drinks that was it. The lad behind the bar came over to us before we sat down and said sorry no children aloud. I said thats ok and left. ( should have listened to the husband from the start ha ha ) I'd advice families not to waste your time crossing the doors of this place. I will be back over in the coming weeks/months without my daughter for meetings as we are due to marry in Edinburgh this year. Safe to say i will not be recommending this place to any of our family and friends from Ireland and Scotland. Reply to mad hatters reply... Hi there. Im sorry but i can only review on my experience of a place and sadly in my case this experience was not pleasant. After reading your reply I completely understand where you guys are coming from. However, I do think that could have been explained to us when we were there. Instead we were called to a halt when entering and having to leave feeling embarrassed for having a child. Im leaving this review Num1 to save other families from the experience and Num2 in the hope that you guys could put up some kind of notice on the door before entering and up on your social media sites. It will save alot of hassel.

My wife and I came here by chance on a weekend away... We returned the next day and now want to move from Hampshire to Edinburgh because of this bar. Russell and Blair welcomed us with such warmth and good humour. Amazing soundtrack, wonderful choice of drinks, exceptional service and kindnesses. Although I should be being paid for a review of such glowing references, I'm not. I simply love this place. ✌️❤️

Great place to pop into for a beer or a rum plenty to choose for too

Don't know why I hadn't been here before, what a lovely place! The food was so delicious - had the vegetarian flatbread and phwoar, what a large and tasty plate of food. The quiz (Wednesdays) was the best I've ever been to in Edinburgh, 100% will be back!!

Warm and Cosy, Wonderful atmosphere, Food was great and staff were approachable and friendly, would recommend to friends, just need to be lucky and get a seat.

A smaller pub in the Haymarket area, this is the place to find if you like a burger, they have to be the best in Scotland not just Edinburgh, very good friendly helpful staff also.

Brilliant place, small, busy, great drinks and good atmosphere. What more could you ask for. Bar staff were great and my girlfriend can vouch for the cocktails, she really enjoyed them and far from mediocre like another review suggested 🙄 would highly recommend going if you have the chance!
