Each time time I go to the Nelson I have a lovely meal the steaks are brilliant succulent and cooked perfectly look forward to my next visit

I spent a Very enjoyable lunch celebrating my son's 40th birthday. His choice to go to the Lord Nelson. Food was excellent. The staff were amazing. They even made a fuss when they found out that it was his birthday. Many thanks to you all.

We were staying at Astley Castle, about two miles away, and previous guests had written in the log book that this place was worth a visit. We went here for lunch and it was lovely, good sized portions, great tasting, good value, and a lovely waitress served us. There was parking out front. I would quite happily return here again.

The food was delicious, and it was well presented. Staff friendly and very helpful.

You pay a bit of a premium for food but it is well worth it for the quality and quantity of the food. Drinks prices reasonable. Beer selection very good with home produced ales. Staff very friendly and attentive.

Booked for 6 today at 12 for lunch. I visit this place at least 8 to 10 times a year and never have I left without eating before. Everything is normally great. Today I was treated with rudeness by a waitress. Paid for my drinks and left.

Definitely recommend Tuesday Fish and chip night but any night is a good night.

Not an Inn, it's a micro pub and it's great. They don't serve meals. No music. No kids . No TV and no dogs, but fabulous atmosphere real ale and cider

The pub's very traditional, food the same and it was excellent value and quality. We'll be going back, and can highly recommend giving it a try

It's a totally decent place to hang out. Dogs are allowed in the bar where you can eat as well. The staff and guests are friendly and the food and prices are good. Unlike the Book Farm and Hores Petting Farm, there's Internet and enough signal for you to make a phone call. This pub is still very much the hub of the village community. There is always a surprising number of guests, even on a boring week day. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the sticky tables and some of the horrible lighting, but at the same time, it is what makes it real. It's not a super slick gastro pub, but it's authentic.

Excellent atmosphere. Great choice of food. We had the Specials Seafood pasta, which was delicious and the Signature Burger which was very tasty. Staff very polite and friendly

Just had a family meal here, good price, food was OK, service was OK for a bit then nobody for ages and was not asked if we wanted dessert, overall decent experience.

Went for lunch and had prawn cocktail, gammon and a raspberry roulade which were all delicious. What made it were the lovely staff, all young but really friendly and obviously keen to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Have been twice now and will definitely go again.

We had Pork and stuffing batches which were very cold and felt and tasted as they had come from the cold store or fridge. Service and drinks were excellent.

Best to book a table especially during the summer. Have a garden for eating outside, and a smoking area .2 restaurants and a bar where you can eat as well. Food is good , freshly cooked and served with a smile

Booked a table for 12 people, for birthday and end of year work, went last night. The service was really good and everyone had the right food, and food was steaming hot. The portions were a good size and some had pudding and they were a good portion too. I would definitely recommend it to visit for food and drinks. Happy customers 😀 🍴🍻🍾🍹🍷

Traditional pub serving good home-cooked food though I only drank here on the last few occaisions. The beers are excellent and the cellar is managed very well. The ales from the onsite micro brewery are well worth a try.

Had a rare steak and chips, and it was lovely. When I asked for a bitter, the staff asked 'light or dark?' and then listed them all from memory at the table. Great service.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Lord Nelson Inn in Ansley, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We had a roast dinner and it was loverly. My only moan is it wasn't busy for sunday dinner time and the it took 45 mins to come out. There only seemed to be one girl taking orders while 3 or 4 others were standing chatting. Very poor customer service.

Waited approximately 45 minutes for ten meals, two of which were barely warm when they arrived. Soon taken away and heated up when we asked though. Zero atmosphere tonight, background music barely audible. Have eaten here several times before and always had a good experience in the past, not sure what went wrong tonight, just a shame two of our party had travelled an hour from Nottingham to experience the Nelson nowhere near at it's best .

Just had excellent boxing day family meal . Really special, great food and lovely friendly service. Please bring back homemade vegetable brie crumble to your regular menu. 10/10.

Been here many times and came for Sunday lunch with my Mother who lives locally. We sat in the area to the far side, which I have never eaten in before. Although the main area of the pub is reasonably decorated, unfortunately the area we were shown to is in great need of refurbishment. It does feel like a 1980’s diner. That said, the food is good. Portions are generous and 2 of us had steaks, which were cooked to our liking and very tasty. Chips were plentiful and hot. We felt that a side salad would be a better addition than peas. One person had a beef roast dinner, which again was delicious, with a good selection of veg. Whoever cooks here, knows what they are doing and the Staff were pleasant and hard working. Service was swift. Thank you.

Different class, what a fantastic pub full of fun and friendly people

We have visited Lord Nelson for many years, but last week I was very disappointed. I had Roast of Day, there was only 1 small roast potato, which had pepper on it, I dislike spices. 2 boiled potatoes, desert spoon of veggies, Gammon which was extremely salty. Very disappointed after the years of enjoying meals with you. Change of chef ‘I wonder’.

I had heard loads of good things about this pub cos the Sperrin Brothers brew their own beer!!! The draught beer was indeed fantastic and I tried two different pints and wow!! BUT we had come to eat cos we know the sister pub the Blue Boar where the food is great. Well.....we should have stuck with the Blue Boar. Two of us had the mixed grill (medium) and I had the all day breakfast. What a suprise, the medium grill was TOO WELL done to be honest and even my bacon and sausages were cooked to a frazzle. Not a good food experience but the beer was wonderful!!

It was a perfect visit for myself and my partner, as it was after the busy lunch time. Food was excellent.

My wife asked for a burger without bacon and she got served with chicken and bacon with peas.

Has a quirky nautical theme and the grog is first class. Appears to be the brewery tap for Sperrin ales. A wide range of styles including mild, bitters and a powerful, tasty stout that makes a mockery of the Dublin pretender. Those with more contemporary tastes should try the Band of Brothers.

I will not come back here ever again. Poor food quality and staff not paying attention. If you are allergic to something, just avoid this place, as they would bring you the wrong food.

Tuesday is fish night, 12oz grilled cod and garlic prawns, chips and pease which is gluten free so my wife who is wheat intolerant was able to have it, followed by 3 scoops of ice cream. Service was very good. Brilliant.

Food good quality and very reasonable prices. Extensive menu of real food, nothing fancy. Ale is superb, brewed on site.

Had a mixed grill and it was fantastic. Every piece of meat on the plate was as tender as it could be. Fantastic selection of fish on the fish mixed platter. Great selection of real ales to choose from. Staff were very polite and helpful All in all a fantastic pub and restaurant with great service.

My wife and I went here for the first time as we are new to the district. The food here is very very good and the portions are quite big, we will be back with our friends very soon, we’ll done to all the staff.
