We all had fish and chips, one word - Boufing. Very greasy , weird after taste. My son had a grey hair in his and almost threw up all over the table. What a waste of money

Been coming here since 1997 and it is consistently good. A proper old fashioned chippy that does nice food to order. It's well cooked and reasonably priced. Always busy too.

Had a fish supper on way home from working in England. Was starving and the wifey at the BP garage on the A66 Scotch Corner said try the Wee Chippy in Penrith. So gave it a bash and it was DELICIOUS 🤤 😋 Plus the two wifey’s that work in there were very pleasant!! 😃

Can't speak highly enough of Chris and Liz's Chippy. Superb every time. My Saturday or Sunday night go to.

Really enjoyed the food but the lady behind the counter with short hair was very sarcastic and quite cocky and rude and the other lady was polite. Bit like a good cop bad cop. The chips were very nice indeed and we was recommended here by someone where we was staying. Potato fritters were amazing! It’s certainly a very nice chippy as long as you don’t communicate with one of the staff.

I ordered a large battered sausage & chips and the sausage was well cooked and hot - usual chip shop style sausage, quite tasty. The portion of chips was very small but tasty. The main problem was the fact that we were quite clearly affected by the great Cumbrian vinegar shortage of 2023. Ordinary says it all - no real need or desire to ever return.

I often stop at Penrith in the way south from Scotland just to visit the Little Chippy. The cheese patty is amazing :)

Went to ‘The Little Chippy’ after finding other restaurants in Penrith too busy. Had to wait in a queue for approx 15-20 mins before we got served. Not a huge variety of options (due to the size) but the food sizes were above average. It was reasonably priced and remained warm after 10 minutes in the car.

Been using the chippy for over 30 years.....no reason to go elsewhere....the food's always been great and reasonably priced. The owners are what really sets it apart....friendly,knowledgeable and very easy going. 👌

We had fish suppers from The Little Chippy this evening and they were really tasty. The fish was succulent, coated in nice crispy batter. The chips were really good too and the portion sizes were very generous!

Chips and gravy i got .gravy at £1.20 was like water and so was the curry sauce very watery. Will not be going back .its over priced and cheap produce

Lovely chips, the special of "small fish & chips with beans or peas" was an absolute bargain at £5.70 and was a perfect size (I always feel over-full after fish & chips normally). Mushy peas were wonderful too - thoroughly recommended!

This Chippy rightly gets awards in the top 10 Fish and Chip Shops in Britain (usually 1st or 2nd place) and they are well justified. Light, crispy batter and perfectly cooked fish, crisp chips with a soft centre. It's one of our locals and we are very happy about that.

Staying in self catering acommodation in Greystoke ,Penrith was the nearest town,had a job parking but pleased we did manage,we always ask for haddock lightly battered ,it was done perfectly,we had a large portion of chips to share & a large mushy peas,total price£15.70p. Taking them to our lodge 10 miles away they were still warm but did warm them up in the microwave. The haddock was some of the best we've tasted ,if we didn't live 150 miles away we would be regulars.

Was very disappointed the chips were greasy the batter was stodgy batteered sausage was already cooked and just dipped in battler and re cooked couldn't eat it won't be going back

Without a doubt the worst chippy I have ever been in. Only ordered chip sandwich and some spicy curry. Only the bread and curry sauce were edible. Can not even describe how rotten the chips were but hopefully you can see from the photo. Straight in the bin for the chips.

First visit and while not the greatest fish and chips it was very good and the service and value was impeccable, would highly recommend.

Had a few days break up in Penrith. By the time we had arrived and booked in to our hotel we wanted something to eat that didnt require booking or waiting. The Little Chippy was just around the corner and what is better than fresh cooked fish and chips? Well let me tell you, we had the best fish and chips we've ever had. Lovely fish, great batter and properly cooked chips; crispy outside, fluffy inside. But we didnt stop there. A pea fritter that was marvelous. A great sausage in batter, but the best was to come. Deep fried black pudding! WOW! Silky smooth, tasty black pudding in crispy batter. OMG! It was heaven. We wish we could get this down south. The staff were very friendly and the shop spotlessly clean. Well worth a visit.

Lovely place. A small chippy as the name says. Only one in at a time but you receive a hand buzzer to tell you your food is ready.

Ive just being in to this chip shop bought 2 large chips sausage and chip the lady was putting salf vinger on as i asked her are the chips freash as they looked very dry she replied yes we have just opened i went home ended up binning the chips as they were very dry and hard so no i will no be going back very disapointed

Visited whilst on holiday as right fancied a chippy tea. Wish we hadn't bothered. Batter on the fish was soggy and fish tasteless . Chips not much better. It was absolutely swimming in grease. Not cheap either . They went in the bin. Wouldn't recommend.

Fantastic chip shop....even do pineapple rings! Really enjoyed my food today - picked up at lunch time. Food perfectly cooked. Will definitely return!

Called in due to reviews...wish we hadn't. Food tasteless and swimming in grease.Fish batter was soggy. Bit odd that everything is seperate on the menu so you have to buy a fish and add chips as extra. Maybe that's just how things are sold and it's normal in penrith ,but been a leeds gal I'm not used to that. Definitely wouldn't recommend, ours went in the bin...never been so disappointed in my life .

I have been going to this chippy for the past 20 years and it has always been my favourite, the Cumberland Sausage is the best in town.

Had a low key racist experience. Was on queue outside with a white colleague. So naturally, observed the old lady behind the counter serve customer after customer, each leaving with their orders in a bag, including my colleague. Got in, the lady’s demeanor visibly changed. Tried to remain nice and friendly. Order couldn’t be completed because their “fryer was off”, no apologies. Next, handed me my order with no packaging, despite it being several pieces. I politely asked to be charged for one if possible. Turns out the chips were dry and portion very little. Won’t be going back.

O M G came to Penrith today and thought I would have a nice fish? Supper Wish i never bothered there was so much oil in the fish and chips I could have done an oil change on my car it was Swimming in it and the woman who served me needs a lesson or two in customer servis I didn't know if she had wind or trying to smile I think it must of been Wind. Wouldn't go there again would rather go to K F C or Mcdonalds at least you get good clean food no oil and yes you got it a SMILE 😂😂😂😂😂

Just had meat and potato pie and chips, the pie was faultless, however, the chips was mainly crispy the rest felt a little dry and overcooked.

Terrible the chips were swimming in grease and the oil had a very strong smell the pie was soggy on the outside and dry on the inside and the fish was definitely not fresh and way over cooked to the point that the fish was chewy! Never again

The chips were doing the backstroke in grease....they were tasted and binned.

Paid £4.70 for what was a cumberland sausage and chips, What I got was a sausage in shape and size, but nothing like a proper cumberland sausage, tasteless and overcooked to say the least, even the dog sniffed and walked away, the chips were a mix of scrappy hard bits and proper sized chips that were soggy and limp, my wife had a fish of sorts, grey and not at all tasting fresh, in a soggy batter which just fell into a mush in the tray. We would have taken them back but was already on M6 southbound, \we visit Penrith quite often,and will find the other chippys next time if we are hungry.

Small fish and chips was as stated- VERY small but you cant argue with that as it’s advertised as small and I didn’t want a lot so that was fine. However, on opening the chippy tea back home, it was absolutely dripping in thick dark oil. The fish tasted faintly of, what tasted to me, like kebab meat, although that’s not served there so I can only imagine all the food is fried together in the same oil. I couldn’t eat it, the fish tasted off and the chips were clearly not fresh and soggy and bendy. Even the pickled onion was crap. Sorry but I’d give it a miss .

Just popped in for a quick bite, ordered small fish and chips, the fish was freshly cooked to order and the meal cost around £4.00 which was excellent value for a small fish, chips and mushy peas and it tasted delicious! Lovely light batter and the mushy peas were proper mushy peas, very tasty! Would definitely recommend.

A favourite stop when driving home from the south. A good range of chip shop favourites, and excellent Cumberland sausage, at very reasonable prices.

I couldn't believe how after 15 years I first come back here to try and to my surprise it was tasting my childhood over again. My family always brought me here for fish, chips and curry. The curry tastes just like it did 15 year's ago. The fish and chips themselves also absolutely amazing and not greasy or anything. Absolutely perfect recommend to anyone.

Yo vivo localmente en Penrith, así que he visitas regulares y así me gusta comprar pescado y patatas fritas y ahora de nuevo. He probado unos de los otros, pero nada se compara al sabor de las Pequeñas "fish and chips". Personal con buenos modales. Cuando fui en última me encontré 20 p corta para queso así que dije que no me molestaría pero ella me dijo que podía tener gratis! Increíble sirve! El precio también es muy bueno.

Después de un día en familia, encontré a Penrith para conseguir pescado y patatas principalmente para visitar la familia de Francia. El personal era amable y la comida era sabrosa aunque algo grasienta y la batería un poco gruesas y pesadas que no era demasiado fresco. Habiendo dicho que no "saltar" demasiado, sin duda peores así como mejor, los jóvenes franceses con alergias a los alimentos parecían disfrutar, así en su experiencia tengo que decir que todo un éxito.

Visitamos esta tienda de pescado y 9 de chip de junio y dios ojalá nunca! Pedí Grande Cod y me dijeron que sólo era regular, una más grande pez nemo! ! Probado el pescado podrido, que parecía que había sido se quedó para las edades. Las patatas fritas eran que escurría grasa y otra no cata de bonito. Yo evitaría este lugar y no lo recomendaría. Good service but food greasy and not very nice

He estado yendo a este particular "fish and chips", ya que era simplemente golpeando mis adolescentes. El personal es genial, la comida bien cocinada, y el lugar es limpio. Si nunca has tenido una prueba el queso patty - Queso y puré de patatas en una pelota maltratada y frito mmmm delicioso

We stopped briefly in Penrith and I could smell a chippy in the air just like in my younger days. The taste and quality of the batter on the fish as well as the cod tasted just as they used to do when fried in traditional methods. The amount of oil left on the fish was a lot to say the least, but eating fish and chips outdoors in the cold is still the best way to eat them. If you're hungry on a visit, sometimes an old fashioned chippy can beat a restaurant without even trying.

Usually very good but on a Friday we had to wait half an hour. Chips were undercooked. Fish was not crisp. Need to be more organised. We will come again but not on Friday. Should have been banging out the fish given it was so busy

My boyfriend and I came up on a camping trip and for the first night (Monday) thought we'd treat ourselves to fish and Chips as the weather wasn't great for a BBQ.

In the town centre but located adjacent to a loading bay so convenient by car or on foot. Interior decoration is grim just like the welcome but the menu offers everything you'd expect. Fish was fresh and chips were very tasty as cooked in beef dripping (I think). No curry sauce available when we went but free sauces were a nice touch. A snip over £6 for fish and large chips can't be bad.

Popped in whist visiting my daughter.. We had two haddock and chips( without skin - great!!) and a haggis and chips. My wife who had the haggis thought it was a little soft but I tasted it and thought it was fine. The haddock (they don't do cod) and chips were fine if a little greasy but we all enjoyed them and nothing was left. We would certainly return on our next Penrith visit.

We went to the little chippy on a bikers day out, OMG they were amazing, we waited a little while as they were frying chips but well worth the wait.

Visited here a few times but not again ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips. The fish cam out the fryer and looked like it had been in several times before on the evening. Everything was a horrible brown and soaked in grease and oil. If I'd lived in town is prob of taken it back it was terrible. Either the fryers need cleaning or that fish had been in the fryer previously. And the bartered sausage looked no better. Will no longer be returning. Only wish I'd taken a photo now

As a child, over twenty years ago, I used to go to this chip shop every week and, visiting Penrith, I decided to drop in. Although the establishment seemed clean and pleasant enough, I took a double take as £2.40 for a large chips is pretty pricey. Anyway, I decided to get two portions and what can I say. The chips most certainly were not fresh, tasted bland and were distinctly chewy. Not at all what I expected at all! The two miserable-looking staff who worked there did little to enhance the experience either. Will most certainly not be returning.
